Tab dead help! - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right Soooo I left this tablet off the charger for quite a while. It died and I thought nothing of it. Went to charge it today and it just keeps looping on and off with the battery charging screen but it isn't charging. It's been on the charger all day but it simply isn't charging. Is there anything I can do?

Take off charger, wait for screen turn off, hold power button until the logo appears. See if you can do that.

It's completely dead lol. I've tried this

Maybe some water entered. Happened to mine once. Try blow drying it or leaving it in the Sun.

see if you can get it into download mode using the charger. theres a possibility that the problem is the power button.

I agree. You can try puting and removing power cord fast, so he'll boot, at least if you can go inside download mode, you can flash a stock rom.

again impossible it doesn't even have enough of a charge to stay on to put it into recovery mode or any other mode.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is what happens when lithium cells/batterys charge is below 3.5 - 2.8 volts , your options are: leave it plugged in till it wakes up an stays on ; plug it in til it turns off, unplug and plug in reapeating till it juices up enough to stay on ; remove the battery and plug back in as a reboot (requires opening the tab) ; or remove the battery and aply 5.0 volts @ 1.5-1.7 amps for NO MORE than 2 hours, then plug back into the tab and resume normal charging .( hope this helps you/your tab) never leave dead lithium uncharged for more than a couple days

sorry to say: bring it to service, that's not normal.
It should at least charge when it is switched to completely OFF

[ISSUE] Transformer powered off and won't power back on

Doubt there is anything else I can do, but thought I'd try anyway.
So after about a whole 3 hours of use, my Transformer just powered off. I tried to power it back on, and it did for about 5 minutes, but would only stay on for about 15 seconds (not even a full boot) and reset again. Now, it doesn't power on at all.
While I was using it I was charging it. It had about 84% battery when it died. I tried holding the power button for 6, 30, even 60 seconds and no results. Tried the power and vol down too.
I have an RMA from ASUS (Is it normal for companies to make you pay for shipping to them? Ugh), but wanted to know if there is anything else I can try before waiting another 2-3 weeks to get one back.
Thanks!
I think I've read of this happening before, leave the TF's battery to go completely flat then recharge it. Nothing to loose by trying it.
Good luck.
I would just keep trying to hit the power button and see if you could get it to work because I feel like doing an RMA will not really fix the issue because it is more of a software issue I feel like, unless it completely died. On the other hand, if you do RMA it, I would not pay for shipping, that is ridiculous.

I thought it was a software issue while it was boot looping, but now it won't power on at all.
Unforunately, it had a HUGE charge on the battery when it died. I can't easily drain the battery because it won't power on at all to use the battery up.
Any suggestions on draining it without powering it on? Thanks again...
These things seem very tricky. Try hitting the power button multiple times, then holding it, and holding it while holding the power down, that works for me.
Some other things you can try is put it on the charger and then try powering it on. Try docking it if you have a station and then plug the dock in and try to power on. Anything could trigger it going back on to be honest because these sleeps of death/shut offs/non responsive units seem to happen at random.
Could be the sleep of death. You can get it to boot usually by holding power for 5 seconds, wait a bit, and then power it on again. Sadly it may be a hardware issue :-(

I'm guessing it's a hardware issue. Any amount of holding the power button down hasn't shown any sign of working.
This is where I wish it had a removable battery. I know about 50% of laptops I work on that don't power on just need the battery taken out, power button pressed, and battery replaced (discharges static electricity).
I had the same problem. I put it on charge for 15 min and then powered it on with it still plugged in. Scared the hell out of me.
It finally powered back up. Just keep trying and cross fingers.

Thanks. I keep trying every 30 minutes or so. Did yours also die while it was fully charged?
Not sure where the battery level was when it died. I thought it had somehow been left on and just drained the battery too much. After a while on charge it came back to life.

Charging
I am sure you guys have noticed - or is mine unique - that when you have the TF switched off and you plug it in it automatically switches on.
So plugging it in whilst it is off actually means you could be draining the battery. You need to switch it off when it is already on charge.
That being said mine stopped charging recently and I found a post somewhere to say to trickle charge it (charge it off the USB on the computer) and then try to charge it again. That worked and it has charged great since. I think that issue is related to the dock.
So try to trickle charge it -see if it will hook up to your PC and see if that will help.

Ah. Unfortunately I think mine is a different issue since it was fully charged when it shut off. Thanks though!
Turns out bestbuy.com received some stock, so I returned mine to Best Buy and re-ordered it. Thanks for the advice, guys! Pretty sure it was something I couldn't fix anyway.

[Q] Infuse won't charge.

Got an Infuse 4G from my neighbor ( He switched from ATT to Verizon knew I needed a phone so he was kind enough to give it to me) and now the phone doesn't charge. What can I do?
Chances are, you have a bad charger or a bad battery.
Either that or a broken usb port. You could be surprise on how many galaxy phones get no charge because of the usb charging port. Its very sensitive and it can be broken quite easily. But if you give more details maybe we can help. Does it responds when you connect it or it wont do anything at all?

prob is your battery if you wanna stay oem battery same thing you can get them at good prices on eBay and Amazon

Infuse Wont stay on or charge
Hello, maybe someone can help me here. My infuse suddenly won't charge or turn on at all. When I plug in the USB cable from my computer or the wall the battery icon comes on with the animated loading circle thing then goes off after about a second of doing that. When I do a hard reset with or without the battery in it and with or without the charger plugged in, the same thing happens.
Its been several days since this has been happening and after trying again today, it actually turned on and booted to the OS and was charging for about 5 mins before it stopped recognizing the charger. I pulled the battery and it since will not turn on. The battery has some charge on it but will not turn the phone on, just does the weird battery thing as described above.
I have tried several different charging cables, but have no other battery to try. Any suggestions?
Hello i had the same problem awhile back. When my phone was not rooted(Infuse) i had to go to recovery mode and wipe cache after that the charger recognized right away on the phone.
Another time After i rooted i flashed a bad rom and i could not get my phone to charge while it was off. It could only charge with the phone on....SO maybe try flashing a newer better ROM i recommend CM10.
Another thing i had to do was switch this old charger i had it would recognize for 5 min then Stop. It was just a bad wire connection.

The problem is I cannot get it to turn on at all. I was running CM10 and have tried 4 different charger/usb cables.
Sadly, the connection of this device is a known weak spot.. if its not doing anything when connected to some form of current.. all signs point to a dead port..
Hopefully that isn't the case..

I also went through this issue and i discovered that it will keep going through a battery icon and then off loop so the way to deal with this is as soon as you see the battery picture just hold the power button for like 2 or 3 seconds and then you should see the battery green indicator with the botton dots animation and it will Charge.
I am having the same issue as xtz as well. I cant get it to turn on. I flashed the Paranoid Android rom and it all went downhill from there. I flashed it and it had 10% battery left, by the end of the night it was at 1%. I went to bed and woke up with it only at 5%. I went back to stock then re-rooted it. I installed CWM but it wouldn't let me go into CWM recovery, only the Android recovery. Now the phone won't turn on at all, I have swapped batteries and USB cords with no luck. This is a brand new unit less than a week old, the battery is also less than 2 weeks old. Any help here? It won't turn on at all It does the same little ritual that xtz's does.

I had the same thing with mine when I first got it (used), I plugged it into the wall with a 2amp charger, left it overnight, and in the morning it was on and charged.

I already tried that and it seems to have messed up one of the batteries. The little loading circle will come on for a split second then it will go away, come back a few seconds later and it just loops. I plugged in the USB while holding the volume keys to try and get it into download mode but I'll get a warning message saying something about installing a different OS being dangerous, again, for a split second, and shuts off. It seems like the phone can't have any power go through it for more than a split second.
I'm having a similar issue with the phone not charging. But the phone won't PC or wall charger. But check this out I have a jigg for putting device in download mode when I connect it to phone. The phones goes in to download now when powered on. So what do guys think is wrong?

From the info you provided: the phone is not charging but the jig works.
Do I need a new battery or does it sound like the USB port shot?
Same thing happened to my daughters galaxy s2. Usb port is shot. I got her a battery wall charger and a couple spare batteries. Charged the battery, popped it in and turned right on.

[Q] Bricked

So my infuse's bottom touch screen buttons, (search, home, back, and menu/settings) stopped working randomly, it was just a matter of me checking my phone for texts while walking around and the buttons were dim, so I restarted the phone 4-5 times to try and fix it, but nothing helped it.
So I put the phone in download mode and tried to get it back to stock using odin. But it froze at cache.rfs for half an hour so I disconnected it. I got the phone ! pc screen from this point on and my phone was still being recognized by my computer at this point as well. I called it a night and left it plugged into my computer until the next day, I tried a different USB port in the morning after I installed samsung mini kies for drivers (even though it was already recognized) and tried using odin again. Again, it froze at cache.rfs so I unplugged my phone and now I can't even turn it on to get to the phone ! pc screen. When I hold down the power button now though, even with my phone charging, nothing happens. I tried power button + volume button too, and nothing happened. It can't even be recognized by any of my computers either. What do I do now? I have warranty on it through AT&T but I'm not sure what their terms are flashing and stuff. (Luckily I did a backup on my phone before flashing )
I had similar problems with Odin freezing at cache.rfs. I tried three USB calls and they all did the same thing. I then tried another USB cable at my work and it flashed the uclb3 unbrick like a champ. My guess for your situation would be a bad USB, try another. Hope that helps

Ok, it's plugged into another USB port but again, it doesn't even turn on to show me the phone ! pc screen. I do notice that when I hold down power, for a split second after a few moments of holding down the button, there is a flash coming from the right side of the screen. Until I can get it recognized on my computer I think I'm at a loss.
Sounds like the battery is out of juice. You'll need to charge it or put a new battery in before you can get back to download mode.

Wouldn't you agree though that I should be able to boot up with it plugged into a charger?
update:
almost 12 hours later of charging my infuse with various chargers and cords, I still can't even get a samsung logo. Just a black screen with the occasional white blip on the right side while I hold down the power button. Looks like I"m without a phone for the time being. I have insurance on it so I"ll take it to the AT&T store asap. If worse comes to worse, I might buy a galaxy nexus hehe

Not if its bricked...its the kernel that allows the phone to charge when its off...so you'll either have to try a battery only charger (whereyou take out the battery and put it in a square charger thing...one that doesn't charge it through the phone/USB) or just buy or borrow a new battery
And when a phone dies you have to plug it in and let it sit for a little while before you van turn it on again

Ahhhhh, thank you for that good bit of info. I never thought that the power to the battery was governed by the phones kernel. Do you know where I could buy one of these chargers? After posting this I'll do a google search myself, but just in case.
Thanks very much.
Edit:
Ok, so after I get some juice into my battery I should just try all unbricking steps again?

Help...Dead One S will not charge

Help Please. I have been running this Trickdroid for quite some time. And thanks to such great battery life I have never seen my phone under 10%....until yesterday when it ran all the way down and powered it self off. ....now it will not take a charge tried all my different chargers even tried a rapid charger (Nex7 charger) and the charging LED never comes on. Will not even try to light up the screen when you hold the power button. I'm concerned about sending it in via TMO that they will fix it and find i unlocked and rooted it and charge me full price for my replacement. Any thoughts? Has this happened to anyone else on this ROM? Is there a way to revive it? Thanks.
Hold power button soft keys should light up then release after 3sec but it on charge and leave it there even if light doesn't come on and after awhile the light should come on
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Yes mate K1llacannon is right mate i can totally confirm that.
I read from one dude with a HOS he left it sit there a full night with the charger connected and after that he could use it again. Apparently, the light will come on eventually but it will take a while until the battery has enough juice to boot the phones charging electronics. Before that, it will take power but show no indicator.
Also, i suppose it is some sort of emergency circuit that charges in the beginning and it is only charging at some minimum rate or something like that so it takes a while...

Thanks guys for the reply....I have tried this and the keys never flash and I left it plugged in all night last night and then again all morning on a different charger and still nothing,....ugh.
It now does do this when plugged into the PC: The PC will do the "durp drup" like its connected then do the tone again as if its not connected again. This cycle just keeps going. I tried to do some adb but keeps saying no device.

Try fastboot devices, adb only works when phone on and USB debugging enabled and in recovery sometimes. If it shows your device then maybe try fastboot reboot recovery or something.
My first One S was completely dead on arrival, no sign of life after charging it for 24 hrs straight with original charger (tested charger OK) and holding PWR for 10, 30 seconds and longer. Got a new one no questions asked. Not that this is necessarily the same problem you're having since yours have been running but then again I'd guess they at least test all phones so they start at factory...

Note 10.1 strange charging behaviour...

My note seems to charge perfectly normally till it gets to 100% but it never seems to say "charged" until well over an hour after the counter reaches 100%!
Is this normal? Should I just ignore the "charged" text and just disconnect it when it gets to 100%?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
It trickle charges the last few dregs and keeps trickle charging afterwards to keep it at 100%. This is normal. When you fill a bottle up from the tap do you leave the water going full flow? If you do you get a face full of water. This is somewhat the same with the battery but I'd prefer to have it trickle chare instead of blowing up and destroying my tablet, injuring me and possibly setting my room on fire....
ok.... we speek about strange charging behavior here, are we?
so this is my case.
i've just spot it few days ago. when my mote was plugged in i've accidentally pulled out the plug.
when i put it back in, there was a red cross on the battery. few tries later of unplugging and plugging back it didn't change. then i have waited few minutes and plugged it in again and it worked as normal then.
i've made a test next day and another day and every time i've unplugged the charger and plugged it back in, there was a red cross on the battery suggesting it is not churging. waiting few minutes unplugged before plugging it in sorted the problem.
is this a common thing or my charger or note are faulty?
It has nightmares about getting abused all day long, just like our nightmares and then awaken not really fresh . . . . .just like us?
Not kidding . . . ., my note also sometimes suffers from slowwwww charching, . . . . can't help . . . . i am wondering about it myself . . . .

Might be built in, something like unplugging a freezer and plugin it right back in and not able to restart. Maybe not.
Is it normal for the GN10 to turn the screen on when you unplug the charger. I hate when I plug my note in the night before a trip, wake up in the early morning for a flight, unplug my note, stick it in my bag and head off to the airport. When I finally pull out my note, I expect a nice full battery, but instead get a hot tablet because the screen has been on all morning.
