Carbon Backup; What am I doing wrong? - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
I've been trying out the new backup app called carbon. I've been fiddling and backing up my data, but I cannot seem to find the setting to have it backup the data and the apk.
Upon restoring through carbon it makes me manually download every apk from the play store.
Anyone know how to backup both the app data and the apk?

I think you have to Download original files(apk) seperatly in your mmc.
I always download original files and install manualy.

Carbon claims to have functionality so you wouldn't have to do this though.

Noob Question: Backup options prior to root and custom ROM

Planning on rooting my Inspire 4g and adding a custom rom. Most of the rom install instructions ask for factory reset and wipe. I'm guessing this means, I will probably loose apps, contacts and app data. Is there a way to save the app states with data and recover these?
I think Google play and Google should help me out app reinstall and contacts. But not sure if I can recover these just in 1 go without having to push an app at a time from Google play. Not sure if there is a way to backup and restore app data

After you root your phone use a backup program like titanium backup to save your play store apps with data. Only save stuff downloaded from store though as backing up system stuff and restoring on other roms will cause issues.

Make sure you read the OP (original post) on any custom ROM you're looking into. Sometimes using a program like Titanium backup can cause a ROM to act buggy. And sometimes everything works perfectly with your restored data... just wanted to give you a heads up.
EDIT: I just re-read Gizmoe's post above... Sorry for being redundant.

OK try using titanium backup to reinstall YouTube. This should work if you used titanium backup to back up the file first.

Yes, and this could very easily been found with a quick search...
You can use the app "Titanium Backup" to backup all your apps and there data
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en
Thanks for the reply. But if the apps disappear when the new rom is flashed, does titanium app not also disappear..??

Yep. You backup your apps in Titanium, flash the new ROM then download Titanium backup again and restore your apps. It's quite self-explanatory if you actually tried using the app.
It creates the backup files on SD card, so that on data reset, the app vanishes but it's files remain in SD. So you should download titanium backup once you flash a new ROM and it will take care of apps further.
You can even backup the app data with TB, like your app settings, game data etc.
But I've seen that restoring game with data doesn't always work well.
But it works cool with other apps.
LIFE! Enjoy it while you Still have it!

You can restore all of your apps by your Google Account.
In fact, go to your settings:
=> backup and reset
=> look if Backup my settings is ticked (if not - tick it)
=> look your backup account, if it's good
=> Look Automatic Restore is ticked (if yes, it's good for you, if not it's bad, but tick it for the next time)
And if you see that Automatic restore is ticked, just synchronize your Google account, and let's play.
All of your Apps ans Settings will be restored

You can get titanium backup to create a flashable update zip with all your apps, if you flash rom, gapps and then the update zip titanium will restore all the data for the apps after the phone restarts

On the backup screen, you can swipe the blue bar up and it brings up additional options. You can uncheck "App Data Only" and it will backup apk along with app data. You can also "select all" and "deselect all" here.

Best way to restore apps, data (and possibly settings)

Hi all.
I tend to switch Roms here and there, or load a new version and have to wipe and format.
I was wondering what the best way to restore is.
I am debating between;
Using titanium backup to restore only apps plus data - is this best to load the ROM and restore after installing the titanium app?
Or make a zip file and install from recovery? Also if from recovery, should I let the ROM load first then load zip second time around?
Alternately, I can use my backup pro and restore all. But again, is it a zip file to restore in recovery ? And if yes, when is best to do it? After ROM install or let ROM load first? I noticed recovery pro also has the options of sms, call logs and other settings which is nice.
Please let me know your thoughts and if any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Titanium for when you are rooted and Helium for when you are not rooted. Helium also backups sms calls if i`am right. I use CallTrack to store the phonelogs and display them in Google Calendar.
Hi and thanks. I am rooted.

I have used titanium for years, has never failed me. It also backs up and restores sms and mms. I have also used rom toolbox pro and my backup pro in the past.
