Wondering if there's anyone developing for Equiso and other Android sticks. - Android Stick & Console Computers General

Hello. I was just wondering if either anyone here was planning on developing for Android tv sticks, or if there's already a community somewhere that already does.

There are a couple that I know of. I have an MK808 stick and use FreakTab and ArmTVTech. Every once in a while you can find some stuff on XDA but as far as I know there is not a dedicated section.

koush is working on a cyanogen mod edition perhaps? https://plus.google.com/+CyanogenMod/posts/95kZohjyQf9
What's required to open a section for this device?
I'm working on attempting to update the ROM to their newest release, which fixes a few issues, but Equiso devs work rather slow (?i think?) and can find people waiting in long lines only for responses... or else throwing the stick to the curb... wondering if Clockwork or something could push it in?
I think from what I've heard, if you ask the devs for source code, they will give, as there's a few sites out there that are listing optional kernel modules for devices like USB audio support...

I hate bringing stuff back from the dead, but anyone still use this device or just me? Lol.
@Koush?
Today my smart stick won't remember the date. Lol.
Won't play 1080 well, but SD, some 720 work. I think I'm so going to get one of those boxes instead now..

[Q] Android 3.0 Kernal/Source Code????

So i have been reading and seeing alot of people wanting a rom that ports honey comb to be compatible with the g2x... ive been reading all about how google hasnt released this yet and probably wont be releasing up until icecream sandwhich is released. But this is where my question forms, to port honey comb to be compatible with our device the source code needs to be found, the same source code used in development of apps for the 3.0+ os correct? i might of stumbled accross something but i doubt its a new find as im sure this topics been searched very throughly. Could someone please reply to inform me of what information is needed to begin development of a rom that ports honey comb to our phones.
It was tried in the nexus one forum, there is a port but unfortunately not fully working you might want to search for it very interesting stuff and they managed to get pretty far along.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
As much as we would all like something new, honeycomb is for tablets. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but it doesn't make alot of sense to me to port something meant for tablets and have to change EVERYTHING to now make it fit a phone. Not to mention the apps made for honeycomb are made for a big screen, which again we won't have.
dont get me wrong GB is fine with me till ICS comes out, i just read about people making new roms and there always being a honeycomb port request. and for the stated problem of the apps on honeycomb are meant for larger screens, would it not just make since to adjust the resolution in the framework down to 190 when the rom is being made rather than leave it up to the end user to do it? this is all just thoughts, and i wanted to see if i found the correct source code for whomever decides they want to attempt to build a rom off honeycomb, as stated i do not have the developing know how as of now to do such a build.

[Q] New ICS Rom Face Unlock

I just installed the Newest Xoom Zone Rom with functioning Camera and HDMI, and I love it. I was going to post this in the Dev forum for the Rom, but because I'm a noob it won't let me. Is there any way to port the Face Lock from the Nexus to a Xoom. I tried the simple, copy .apk to the system install of the zip before I flashed it, and it crashes when I go to set it up. Face Lock appears under the security heading, but it doesn't function. I like this feature on my Nexus, and I think it would work great on a tablet. Is there a way to make this function on the Xoom, or will we have to hope Google releases a way to build it?

It would be great to have it in deed! But if i were you i should post it into antother section.
Functionality like this will come in time.. We have really only had ics for 30 or so days and alot of devs are working hard on core functions and ensuring it is stable, we only got cam and hdmi in the last few days... Also other devs not associated with the builds may be able to come up with a solution but it may require libs or other files as u have seen just an apk drop wont cut it.. Or the apk itself may need porting for tablets or the xoom specifically, personally i dont know i wish i did. i do think though face unlock will come soon as alot of people are like yourself and want it... i would like it myself

I wasn't trying to *****, believe me I'm so impressed with the Dev support of this thing. I don't really know a lot about programming or any of that stuffs, and I wasn't sure if anyone had any insight to offer in getting this to work. It seems like the only way that is happening is by testing apart the APK and there is NO way I'm smart enough to do that. I was surprised when I saw the camera support already. Im just really hoping there is a way for this to work eventually, it seems like this is more suited to a tablet than a phone, and hopefully we get this working eventually.

[Q] ROM known issues

Hi
Since I'm a new user I can't post in the development forum, so imma ask here.
I have been following this thread for a long time:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293751
And I'm having a hard time finding a list of known issues for each ROM. I've been looking everywhere but still can't find if BT, HDMI output and 30fps video (just to name a few) are working with the ROMs that are listed in the thread.
I'm more interested in the Compiled CM7 for Infuse and MIUI for Infuse, but they only redirect to the CyanogenMod website and/or give half-answers.
Can anybody help?
Nope none of it works on CM7 or MIUI.
Bt and Hdmi will work when the source codes for gb come out for our phone. Hopefully soon since the last leak came out like last month and was pretty solid.
Not all that sure with the fps issue.
Sent from my SGH-I997
Thanks for clearing that one out for me.
Do you know if we'll be able to port CM9 to the Infuse once the source codes do leak? Or is this not compatible/irrelevant?
Bluetooth isn't waiting on source code, cyanogen mod uses a different Bluetooth stack than Samsung roms, the only thing that will fix Bluetooth is to find a competent developer who had the time, skill, and motivation to get the call audio working over Bluetooth.
So far we have all three, but not all in one developer
the current cm7 compile is otherwise working really well. as kies mini just hit for the infuse you gotta think the full release is right behind it.
Crossing our fingers for source code soon, HDMI and getting our video support back would be nice on custom kernels. Stock kernel is killing my inner child
"the current cm7 compile is otherwise working really well" - so, no HDMI output and no Bluetooth? Otherwise, no problems? I might give it a shot then.
What about CM9? Anybody has a clue?

Kinda shocked that nobody mentioned this.. but this should not have been asked in the development thread to begin with... thanks for choosing the right thread........
As for finding their issues.. just read the threads.. I'd recommend checking out the one with Zeus in the title.. my resources tell me it's a pretty good one...

AOSP on Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

So, i opened this therad because there no persons pushing and Developing custom AOSP Roms for the Galaxy Tab 3.
I'm opening it here because the Android Developing forum is a bit AFK.
Also, my first question is,
Why we are not using the Android x86 source, put a little bit from samsung open source and Tab 3 binaries it, and compile it?
Its so hard?
We are the xda-developers, we can do it!
Curious..

Yes, I'm asking myself the same, the Galaxy Tab 3 is such a famous device and out since July, but still there are nearly no ROMs out. Are there any ROMs planned or will this device soon be moved to the low activity section? CyanogenMod officially supported the Galaxy tab and the galaxy tab 2, but it doesn't seem like they are planning to support the galaxy tab 3?
Is there a special reason for that?, I'm just wondering?

The most device development I've done to date has been a simple android app, but I'm willing to get dirty on this one. I just came into possession of one of these devices over xmas, and I never let a good device go to waste. I do have 17 years of programming experience in multiple languages including C++ and Java, and a lot of web-based languages, so I'm hoping to come up to speed relatively quickly.
I'll poke around here and on the net over the next few days and see if I can teach myself, but if someone could point me in the direction of some quick start tutorials for building custom roms, I'll get started.

Anthony, I think one thing that is holding people back on this device is a good recovery. The ones available now are painfully slow. I'm guessing there is some power saving mode on the x86 chip that needs to be tweaked to get it performing well. Once that was fixed, it would be a lot easier to experiment with ROMs. -- Bud

Anthony and all, hi and hello. Thinking of shaking the rust off, as I also just came into possession of a GTab3, 10.1 inch, over this holiday season. I haven't built anything in a long time, but anyone who ran a Vibrant a couple years ago around here, should recognize my handle. I maintained a rom for the Vibrant for quite a while, from Froyo to ICS, then life got busy.
Popping into here today, I'm kinda sad to see there's not much if any in the way of development on this device. Happy to have root, thats a start. cduced was right, we do need a better recovery option, at least one that is faster, though what we have now is workable. TWRP may be slow, but it's something. We were always hung up on doing pure aosp source build for the Vibrant, because Sammy is not known for making their kernel source easily and readily available. Working from an existing zip to kang it is easy, but really thats just the same rom, maybe stripped and repackaged. A source build is the desirable outcome.
Though I haven't begun looking into things for this baby yet, and my adb and build tools are far out of date, I am very interested in working towards a better set of options for this device. 4.2.2 still? I can't believe Sammy hasn't released a 4.3 update, that's sad, but goes to show the lack of support they give their devices, to anyone who's been there you know, but you also know, determined devs can make it a better world.
Anthony, and anyone else interested in trying to improve this device, feel free to PM me, I'm thinkin' we should make a Google Hangout or something, make it easier to communicate.

Hey I want aosp on this device too! At the very least, id like a custom kernel that I can overclock to reduce lag. Ive never created a rom, but I dont think roms are the issue...id be interested in porting roms that already exists...x-note for multiwindow features, or pac-rom for a highly customized device.
Are you still up for the projects? Lets heat these forums up!!!

It's ok I have already seen and tried them . I understand the concept of work on something new and the lack of dev it's just that I was surprised because I thought tab 3 was like the others tabs so the development was more evolve.no problem.
Not to knock it, but whats been released in the threads, is nothing more than the deodexed build already up there, with some bloat removed. Even the install scripts have, or had, the same text as the original. So really, nothing new. I am looking into possibly kernel cooking for this device, that seems like a good point to start.
No promises at this point, I'm looking into it though.

This is true but there is finally a bit of interest and may come up with some new goodies..... the reason they all have the same updater.script is because of the recoveries.... they need a little more work to get them to work with the x86 architecture

Any developers working on Android L for the Infuse?

Just wondering if anyone knows if there has been any development for the Android L for the Samsung Infuse? Is this something that is possible / feasible for the Infuse or are there hardware limitations that will prevent it from ever being installed?
I have 4 Samsung Infuses that my entire family still uses, and it runs fantastic! I wonder how long we can stretch this thing out or if it is essentially at the end of life for development.
Thanks for all your hard work guys! Has been an awesome ride!
I've wondered if we'll see it as well... It is more the question of if a developer is willing to try it, then maintain it. I'm sure someone will compile it but I'm not so sure anyone will maintain it.
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
The problem will be not hardware related but driver related it'd require modifying our already heavily modified (GB based) boot loader and kernel and also putting cracks where massive amounts of cracks are already in place for the drivers, so that said I'm not saying it's impossible just not very likely however anyone who is willing to try please don't let this deter you from your attempts instead go and prove me wrong ( I already have lollypop on 3 of my 4 working devices would love to have it on my 4th
Im waiting on it too
