has anyone been able to find any bugs? only bug i found so far is that the touch sounds are insanely annoying and make me have to pee a lot.

try this mod works well if not you can just delete the sounds from system/media/audio/ui
Water drop change

i disabled them in the settings somewhere. mainly wanting to know what people have found as bugs. thanks for the tip though ima check it out.

Maybe not a bug, but the Bluetooth pairing sequence with my iogear hands free leaves room for improvement.
It seems to work best when I turn on SR's BT first then follow with the hands free. Every so often it forces extra steps before Phone Audio is included in the pairing.

Not sure if it was a bad flash, wakelock, or something I did but my battery life sucked when I was using it. Other than that it was pretty solid.

yea the battery life seems like its being drained by the screen moreso than normal. probably a new color management system or something. and as for the bluetooth issue, what do you mean by forces extra steps? i figure the more info we make public the more chance samsung has of seeing and fixing the bug since they do crawl the site.

Sure ... by "extra steps" I mean
Most times I only need to turn on SR's BT first, then turn on my iomega, then the grey BT status text on screen that says (paired) under the iomega's model name will automatically turn bright blue; indicating it is paired + Phone audio. Ready to use.
The other 6% of the time the grey status text stays grey, so I click on GBHFK231. I just now noticed there is an empty [Call audio / Use for phone audio] checkbox on the resulting screen, but I never noticed it while in my car. Based on that other 94% of the times I start BT to a complete pairing with audio, I am spoiled, so without using any check boxes, I just restart both BTs in order and usually get the full pairing.
I can't agree about battery drain though. I toggle Data off most of the time and use wifi whenever possible. Battery discharge at rest on wifi (no data) is 2 - 3% / hr.

Security storage app? Consumes 98% battery

I have the app android booster to monitor battery use. When I go to applications everything is at 1% and 2% but the android process "security storage" is consuming 98% battery? Does anyone know what this is? Is there a way to minimize it or can I freeze it with Titanium Backup?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
I wish I knew as it's killing my battery also, I'm thinking I'll have to reflash or even odin back to stock before I'll get rd of the battery drain caused by secure storage, I found out it's com.android.providers.security that started secure storage but not much else
I see nobody is addressing this issue, or even explaining it. Too bad, as I'm having the same issue. The annoying part is, no matter what kernel I run, the same thing happens: The phone will sit sedately idle until I want to use it, then the minute I try to do something "Security Storage" starts running and the phone becomes non-responsive for 30 seconds to a minute or two while that stupid app is running.
Why can't this app do its maintenance while the phone is idle, rather than the minute the user wants to do something, or be forced into "nice" mode (don't know if Android has such a setting, but it's based on linux and linux does have such a setting) so that it's only allowed to hog the CPU when the phone is idling.

I've noticed a lot of system resources get wasted even after removing the knox apps and enterprise and container agent stuff that comes on samsung phones. I mean, I guess its good as an option to have if you have use for it. Problem is tho, for ppl like me, its also built into the system in order to make those implementations effective and when you install a custom ROM and or kernel it causes errors. I think thats why some people dont like touchwiz ROMs and think theyre laggy. When the kernel and system are not synced anymore, crap goes on in the background that is just a waste. I still dont know much really, but I spent some time trying to fugure out how to disable some loggers and errors that were going on and were pissing me off. Here is a link to a post I ran across that helped shed some light on some stuff. Be careful tho, and if you don't know what your doing, spend some time to learn about what all that stuff does, because it's system stuff and you could find yourself in a bootloop or with an expensive azz brick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599266

interestingly using icyfusion rom and terrasilent kernel, I cannot find this line in my build.prop. anyone else not seeing it there? secure storage is eating up at least 20% constantly of battery/cpu accord to elixir2. My battery drain continues to plague the device and I can only get about 1-2 hours of light use out of it while it continues to drain when screen is off. All I want to do is use it to listen to some tunes and I'm regretting rooting the device now. Refreshing to stock, wiping everything...formatting etc. has no effect. Has anyone solved this problem (presumably related to secure storage?) with another method?
(yp-g1 us version, currently on GB 2.3.5 stock, rooted with terrasilent kernel).

I tried CM11 which worked fine for a week or so and then all of the sudden the battery drain problem appeared. I didn't check the build.prop when on that because I decided to reflash to stock and start from scratch trying different roms/kernels. I can't shake the battery drain now no matter what I do - factory reset full wipe, you name it. I guess I could try installing cm11 again and see if it is in the build.prop then?? I just don't know how to proceed at this point.
My suggestion would be to go into developer options and take a look at process stats to see if there are any rogue processes running that you don't need. You can also download and install BetterBatteryStats app from here on XDA or purchase the paid version from the play store so that you can specifically pinpoint what is causing your device problems. Also, older devices often need batteries replaced because they wear out. I don't think the secure storage bug affects AOSP based ROMs since it is related to Samsung's Knox. Another tip would be to use a build prop editor app that has a search function to make finding things easier.

thanks for the suggestions, but it's all similar to what I've already tried. I did use Elixir2 and another battery status app to monitor things, and I have also gone through running process and disabled everything that I don't need. I did order a new battery just to check, but I don't think that's the problem. The top part of the case (where the CPU is running I presume, not the battery) is getting very hot, so there is some problem with a program or service overheating the CPU which in turn drains the battery. I just charged to full today and turned the screen off so that the device will sleep. 2 hours later, it is dead. I checked battery stats in settings and there is no indication that the device wakes while screen is off...I'm just totally at a loss. It's almost like it's a hardware issue maybe caused by a kernel or something like that, rather than an app or service. I just have no idea. Someone in another forum advised me to flash to stock and run a logcat app and post results..so I guess I'll do that. I'm worried though, because I was googling prices for ipod touches earlier today....I don't want to go back to the dark side...but I just want a device that works and I can listen to music for more than 30 minutes too.

thanks, but that was one of the first things I turned off. I only want to use the device for music listening and quick browsing/email. I shut off wifi when not using and leave it in airplane mode as well....definitely something internally wrong with the device somewhere that goes beyong changing the usual battery draining settings. Still have the logcat running and the device is making very strange noises I've never heard before...popping, screeching scratchy sounds....very strange...things just seem to be getting worse and I'm worried I'm quickly heading to an expensive paper weight situation... Battery continues to drain at 20% or more/hour with screen off. I think after this if no progress is made,...I may try to unroot the device, but I don't know if that will solve the problem and will undo the damage already done.

Horrible Battery Life

Hello All,
I have (2) N5's (one white, one black). I've noticed that battery life on the black one is extremely bad. I'm almost always near a charger, so it was quite a shock when I noticed the black one down to 37% by noon. The next day I swapped phones and never saw the charge on the white one drop below 97%. I wiped both phones and configured each identically and was able to duplicate very similar results over the next few days. This morning I decided to see what happened when I did not connect to a charger. My use has been almost nothing (5 mins of screen time, 3 hrs off battery), yet my phone is already at 81%. I notice "Android OS" is using approx 50% of the battery. I do have a few apps that run in the background and I also leave GPS, BT, mobile and wifi on all of the time, however this is no different than how I used the white one or any previous phones. I suspect this is a hardware problem, however I would like to try to pinpoint the cause to satisfy my own curiosity. Can anyone recommend specific apps/tools that would provide more detailed information about what is going on with the different subsystems (battery, cpu, radios, storage, etc) that could help me find the problem? Thank you.
Do some searching and reading.
It's your apps. Not a hardware problem.

You have a wakelock obviously. My Android OS does the same thing, but it doesnt destroy the battery that bad. My wakelock is wlan_rx_wake, and its very annoying to get rid of. Still havent found a way to kill it yet.
I've noticed if you turn the location settings to "Device only" the Nexus 5 sips battery, while the screen is off, because it isn't always waking itself 1,000+ times a day to report your location.

I initially thought the same thing; however, I did not install any apps after wiping the phone, yet the problem remains. Also, I do not have this problem on my other N5 with all of my normal apps installed and configured for normal use.

I did this... mostly. After wiping both phones (by reflashing the factory image) I did charge both to 100% before using them. Unfortunately, I am on-call 24/7 and have to use one phone at all times. I did keep usage as identical as possible. I did this by not installing any apps and charging at the same times for the same amount of time. Also, my commute and time at work/home/elsewhere was almost identical. Of course there are some things that are out of my control (call, sms, emails, etc received), however it was certainly not enough to account for the difference I am seeing. If I take the phones off the charger at 7A, and use as little as possible, the white one will be >90% where the black one with be <40% by noon.

This very well may be. How did you find out that your wakelock is wlan_rx_wake? This is what I'm really seeking - app recommendations or other ways to acquire this in-depth information. I've done some googling, but many of the apps that I've seen recommended do not work with KitKat. What I find most odd is how the white N5 with a 100% identical configuration does not have this problem.

Thank you. I suspect this would make a difference, however I am basing my expected usage on what I get with the white N5 with the same configuration. I did not change any settings on either and would like to see them similar with the same configuration. Once the issue is worked out, I will definitely take your advice and change this setting to increase my battery life.
Thank you all.
Did you download the firmware from Google then flash it in bootloader? Also you need to flash both phones to stock, Then not install any apps or settings on both so there both the same. That's a fair test.
If you can't do this, Then this thread is pointless as far as I'm concerned.

Why the attitude? You're clearly a helpful person, based on the time you spend helping others on here. If you're having a bad day or dealing with some personal issues, I sincerely hope things get better for you. If you really have a problem with my test constraints, then please move along. As a UNIX Administrator for the past 15 years, and a component-level electronics tech for 5 years before that, I can tell you from experience that the real world simply does not always provide for ideal conditions. While I agree that a 100% identical setup is preferred as a control, it's simply not an option. Even with my constraints, there is no way the number of emails and texts that I sent/received on a given day are the cause here. All that said, the point of this thread was to gain insight into how I can find more detailed information about what is going on with the various subsystems - either app recommendations or other tools. Much of the information I've found has been high-level - Settings > Battery or BetterBatteryStats (which doesn't work with KitKat AFAIK).
Thank you.
Without the 100% identical test, it's a guessing game.
I don't have an attitude, if I did, I would have told you my credentials, but I didn't think that had anything to do with this thread...
I'm not being a smart-ass buddy, and I do like to help on here as much as possible or as much as my knowledge can allow me.
Better battery stats, is for sure your best bet, that app is a must have for trouble shooting. I'm sure within a few days, there will be a update.

Things that really bother me about the current SW2 and why:

There really should be a pinned thread for utter disappointed features and/or people.
I am not returning my new SW2. Its too cool to have the lamest, inept and funtion-killing GUI cause me to give up. ** But I bought a Pebble watch the same day because (the SW2n currently):
- can not function as a watch. It does but it goes to sleep VERY fast. WAY too fast. This is completely unacceptable. If I want to drain my f*ing watch and be able to read it all day, I should be able to!!! Put a warning on the settings area.. like: WILL DRAIN BATTERY VERY FAST or something...
- Can not finish reading my incoming sms. Maybe you dont know the girl I am dating but she WRITES A LOT... and this may not be normal amounts ... I really mean a lot. And SONY clearly has NO IDEA about this.
- AND continuing from the above point, it goes back to the f*ing CLOCK in sleep mode. SHOULD dim and remain on my screen until I SAY OTHERWISE. NOW I have to press the power button and NOT make it power off buy accident (another STUPID DESIGN) and make it activate, press the home button and then the stupid function messaging button. NO LOGIC FLOW HERE. I have to read 5 or 6 TXTs by now.
- CAN NOT read the messages in order without going BACK and opening the messaging app again. At least that seems to be what I had to do. I might have missed proper procedure here but if that is true, shame on SONY for lacking a more intuitive operation.
The Poweramp app is cool when it works. It should STAY active. I DONT CARE about anyone else or what slogan SONY wants to claim about battery life. I want FUNCTION my f*ing way. I use Poweramp all the time. But it is not able to stay on my watch, active? Total shame.
The ONLY app I kept on my watch is the custom watch faces. It allwos me to keep the display on until the dumbwatch, overthinking watch disconnects from my RazrMaxx/4.4 Dhacker29 ROM.
So in conclusion, This watch completely fails at being a watch. Fails at running apps because it times out WAY TOO FAST. Fails at every possible area other than fitting well.
Maybe your accelerometer is faulty. It should not timeout when on hand, actually it dims and always shows time.

Well it can timeout and go totally blank ... try it, put them on the table and do not move the watch/table and it will dim and then go completely blank after a while, because the accelerometer sees it's not on the hand. So if OP's accelerometer is faulty, it might behave this way ...

I am not a troll. At least I am not trying to be a troll. I do feel slightly underwhelmed buy my experience so far.
And maybe my accelerometer needs checking? If it is supposed to remain on (the screen) for more than 5 seconds when I am wearing it and trying to read something, then yes, something is wrong. Maybe the watch doesnt know when it is on a troll arm?

Hello,
What he is saying actually makes perfect sense, especially on this forum - we are not the average, marketing-targeted user and we like to use our devices any way we please, without being limited by design hickups. And we are more sensitive to design flaws and marketing bs than the average consumer.
Sony missed and even lied about basic features and is not allowing, at least so far, anyone to tweak with this product's FW.
In my experience the watch proved very useful ONLY IF YOU ARE NOT RELYING SOLELY ON IT for most of your work - i, for one, would not like to read my correspondence on such a tiny screen and prefer to use the phone instead - but it would sure be nice to know that I CAN use the watch if i wanted to.
Fortunately, while driving a motorcycle, for example, getting a hint of the message content usually suffices for me to determine if i need to pullover and get my phone out, provided i get to see the screen before it times-out, which is another awkwardly missing basic function.
I will, however, hold on to the SW2 for now in hopes that Sony will straighten things the way they should.
Sent from my LT25i using Tapatalk
i agree fully with the OP as well
if i didn't know better, i would suggest posting your opinions on talk sonymobile, but as i already did that and got NO reply from Sony, i guess it would be just a waiste of time
that's my biggest problem with Sony right now: no communication
(although i must admit most manufacturers suck at communicating with their customers, try finding out when the Butterfly s is getting 4.3/4.4, not a chance)
I actually agree with the OP, there are some features that could be included in the settings menu like timeout duration or stopping the watch default to the watch screen every time it goes into standbye especially useful if travelling and using features like poweramp - you need 3x button presses to bring the poweramp screen back on and if you have a messaging app open (reading messages) it should prevent the watch from sleeping
and how fecking hard is it to develop a few watch face designs with different colours etc
TBH I think Sony are in the process of designing a totally new Smartwatch for release in early 2014 and have completely dropped the ball with this one
well, there was an update today, so i guess they didn't drop it completely
update looked good at first, but disappointing anyway
-only 1 extra watch face that's usable, i still want the abilty to design/choose my own watch face
-the option to use the light sensor for brightness is nice, but i'm glad it's optional, don't like it
-music app update totally messed it up (used to work for me)
-camera app update didn't do anything for me, still does nothing
-still no selectable timeout, huge issue for me

AFAIK I suspect that problems might occur pairing the SW2 with a non-Sony smartphone.
But please let's keep the discussion in one place only, so we can better compare these findings:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554874
i think i know why the watch can't dim while still displaying an app
those apps don't really run on the watch, they're just displaying what's happening on the phone (that's where the app is installed)
so for a watch-app to work, the watch is constantly communicating with the phone
such a connection will probably drain the watch very quickly
only the watch part can run independently, so that's why it always goes back to that screen, to save power
this is of course just what i think
FWIW, the screen on time can be controlled by the app. I use and app called IPBike for cycling which runs on the phone. This app allows you to use the watch as a head unit on the bars. It has an option to keep the watch screen on for the entire ride.

Battery discharge while on charger

Using CM11 snapshot january update
I woke up late last night to see my phone still with the yellow charging light on while it was on the charger. i found that odd since it had been on the charger for almost 4 hours. i went to bed with it at 75% and when i went to the battery page it was at 50%. wierd thing is the graph says "3hr and 50 min on battery" but the line graph shows that its is, in fact, charging. another thing ive noticed is that the wifi line graph is solid, im not 100% sure its supposed to be intermittent, i.e. phone is sleeping and what not.
once i noticed that it was still discharging i looked at running apps, nothing outside what anyone else would have running at the end of the night. after i cleared the running apps it started charging again.
i know that i may have answered my own question at the end of the second paragraph but chargers put out more power than a phone can consume while being dormant so im trying to isolate a handful of things.
1. is the wifi line graph supposed to be solid all the time? (I didnt think so but)
2. is the rom im using (cm11 snapshot current update) on an outdated kernel?
3. whatever else that can brainstormed
and before i get a but of wrong forum reply's, i dont have a choice i need my 10 reply's to get this into the correct forum..... unless admin moves it into a developer forum....eh...eh?
thanks for any help you guys can provide.

solid wifi line.. go to the phones main settings, wifi, wifi settings(3 dots bottom right), advanced, disable scanning always available.
cm uses cm kernel. outdated is when a kernel is no longer good, a lower kernel number doesnt mean anything.
and this kind of post have no business being in development, no mod would ever even consider moving it there. development is for development, not questions that are very basic. you actually got the right forum.
Weird. As Sims said turn wifi scanning to off.
It could be a nightly issue with CM at the current moment, check there.
PS: There are other ROMs than just buying a phone and throwing cyanogen mod on it.
Good deal. Thanks guys.
I know I could put any ROM on a phone I used to have an s4 and did several ROMs with that. Then I had to send it in and they gave me one that was mf3 and I was just tired of jumping through hoops. But I put cm on mine because I getting away from full service and using strictly Google voice on a data only plan for cheaper service (Att is the best service overall where i am but their no contract sucks), and cm, so far, is the only one that has voice plus to integrate gv SMS into you native SMS app. That's my big thing. But if there's other ROMs at utilize voice+ I'm open to them.
I'm going to be of no help to you, but just to let you know, this is the correct forum. Nothing except something that you developed goes in development. Nothing. Questions and all other random things go in either Q&A or General.
I don't see you mention which charger you used. Wired? Stock charger and cable? The WiFi bar will be solid over night with your WiFi on and never intermittent.

Yea after I was told to look at the WiFi settings, I changed some settings. But yes Its wired. I played around with the cable and it wiggles a bit but I didn't notice it disconnecting but I'll do More investigating on that front over the next few days.

Wiggle won't effect charge speed. Using a different adapter or cable then what came with your phone will effect charging speed however as well as the phone's current draw.
Well yea right. What I meant to say was that I may not be getting a solid connection, and if I had it sitting a certain way, it may not be charging at all, making appear as though the battery was draining "while charging" when it actually wasn't even charging. My biggest thing was that this is the first I've noticed it so. Maybe the cable is just crappy and is giving out. ( not the OE cable)

Most likely it's just the cable then. You may be interested in the contents of this thread including a quick comparison video Bacon made.

Wow that's pretty impressive makes me want to get Motorola cable

Turns out a combo of things. One being the cable with now power output. And the other was just being a cheap cable and was fitting in the port loosely and not maintaining a connection all the time. Thanks for the help.

Bluetooth Audio Stutter

Please please help me - this is driving me nuts...
When playing back audio 90% of the time i will get an awful stuttering... it seems fine if i use wired audio
Sometimes it will work just fine, but most of the time it's really bad
I found somewhere online that seemed to link it to wifi scanning - i tried turning this off and it worked briefly, but then was back to how it was
Also, should probably add, it doesnt seem to matter what app I use - tried Spotify / Deezer / Google Music - all downloaded music
Any ideas?
Try to turn of bluetooth scanning. Go to Settings-> Location-> 3 dots

Darn
So guessing there isn't a solution out there then?
There is a talk.sonymobile.com z5 suite thread on this issue, you might want to follow up hoping for a permanent fix. There are several more or less temporary solutions in the vein of just rebooting, rebooting to safe mode and back, or just clear all apps cache. Few questions for you, is it only aptx headphones or speakers with this issue or even regular bt? Is the stuttering new to MM or was it already in LP too?

Phone is brand new so only ever used on MM
Rebooting fixed very briefly.
Headphones are not aptx to my knowledge - they were fairly cheap from Amazon, but worked absolutely fine on my last phone, so I know it's not them...
Well, on train now and apart from some very minor stutters (which are barely noticeable) this solution has fixed the issue!
Massive thanks for the suggestion and help!
Turning off location scanning (mine was never on) doesn't help me. I thought the last MM patch fixed it, but I was wrong. Also, I'm having a problem now where devices will connect, but I will simply not get any audio through those devices. I have to reboot the phone for it to work. I've already posted in sonymobile, but this'll do it. Anyone want to buy a mint condition green Z5?
So I maybe spoke too soon. It is definitely better, but not perfect... Def got a few serious crackles on the way home. I can probably live with it if it stays like this tho
The real solution is to keep posting on that relevant sonymobile thread and thus let Sony know we're not happy with this ongoing issue.

Yep, def not fixed. Certainly miles better tho.
It's weird - it sounds like it's a strain issue (I.e. too many things running)/but I can be playing Lara Croft for 20mins with music and no stutter, but be messaging on WhatsApp and have it. Very very odd.
Will def post on the Sony Forums
