A few weeks ago, an unfortunate accident let to my Asus TF300T's screen being broken. While bad, what's worse is the digitizer broke as well, and it no longer receives touch input. After scouring the internet for a replacement, I have learned that there are a couple versions of the display, and they are incompatible with each other. But the problem is, the flex cable on my tablet does not indicate which version it is.
Attached is a picture of the flex cable. There is no text on the back of it. Is there something I am missing? Could someone point me in the right direction as to which version I need to fix it? Many thanks!

Where did you get the information that there are different versions of the touchscreen that are not compatible with the tablet? Whatever the case, it shouldn't matter (GO1 or GO3) since you need either one to work with your TS board, not with each other. Search around to determine if it's just the screen that's bad; look at this THREAD for example. There is a thread somewhere claiming that different firmwares are required for different screens, but that's not to say that any of them is incompatible with your TS board (provided it's still working) since you can flash various firmwares for various screens to the same TS board.
I have read through the linked thread and one member states that the panel with "5158N FPC-1" on the flex cable is indeed the G03 version. It doesn't look like many people carry this version, but I will look around and report my results to this thread in a few weeks time. (or days, if I can find a seller in the US)

Ebay has quite a few US sellers of this thing for around 70 bucks. If you're not sure, I know a repair technician here who ordered a GO1 screen for a customer who never showed up. It's tested and he'd let it go for 55-60, but the difficulty is in the replacing. It's delicate work (I've done it myself so I know), and the TS board is known to be finicky and can quit altogether if not handled properly. If you're not confident of your skills, you should leave it to someone who knows what they're doing.
The biggest problem while trying to replace the screen is trying to separate the Digitizer from the LCD (if the LCD still works) There is some really sticky tape that bonds the two together and if you aren't super careful, you will break the LCD (like I did LOL). I ended up having to get a new Digitizer AND LCD and got them at different times. When it was all said and done, I blew close to $150 since I bought them both separately. If you can find both LCD and digitizer as a set for less than $100 I would buy that rather than just getting the Digitizer for $30 less and risk breaking the LCD in the process.
That's just my 2 cents.

I have already separated the LCD and digitizer successfully. (well, almost successfully. the knife I used to separate the tape slipped and I gashed my finger pretty bad. But the important part came out completely fine...not even a fingerprint!
You say you can get the digitizer for 30 bucks? The lowest Ive seen them on Ebay for is about 70 dollars.

I'm not sure why you cared to separate the two since both were mentioned broken in your first post. The only thing you need is the plastic bezel glued to the digitizer.

I saved the LCD display, since it works perfectly fine. The digitizer/glass on the other hand, which was already broken, was hopelessly shattered in the process. That is the part that needs replacing.
The plastic bezel/screen is the same as the digitizer. It's all one piece. Nah cheapest digitizer is around 70 but some places i think sold both for $100 ish.

Despite what hardslog says, I must caution you again that the bezel and digitizer are two separate parts bonded together by a double-sided strip. A new digitizer doesn't come with the bezel. If you throw it away now, the back cover will not cover the whole tab at the front later on. Now if hardslog can vouch for an lcd/Touchscreen combo for around 100, you should ask him for referrals. He'd be doing a great service to other members as well since quite a few have looked hard for that item and couldn't find it anywhere to buy.
We might be a little confused with each other on the terminology being used. If by bezel you mean the very outer part of the screen (the 1/3cm or so black border thing around it, as in NOT the black part that says "ASUS" on it) then yes that is a separate piece. I thought people were referring to the digitizer and the clear screen (as in the part that you touch) as being the same thing. Does that make sense?
Sorry it seems prices have gone up even more since I replaced my screen (4-5 months ago). Don't listen to me when I said $100.

Hi all,
I sat on my Fuze, short and simple. There is now a weird crack on the screen. I am very familiar with what a broken LCD looks like, there is no LCD "liquid" oozing all over the place, and the picture is not distorted in any way. It looks like some kind of lens INSIDE might be broken, and I think it's the digitizer. The cracks stop once they get to the dark grey at&t/HTC border around the screen, even though I hit very close to it, so whatever I cracked is under the top lens/protector.
Also, I read online (albeit at a cell phone repair website) that you can't replace the digitizer without ruining the LCD. Is there any merit to this, or are they just trying to convince people to pay their obscene $149 to replace a $30 part?
So I guess I have two questions:
Did I break the digitizer, the topmost lens, or somehow the LCD glass without damaging the LCD itself?
How hard is this to replace?

If I'm not mistaken (and I might be), all this should take is removing the two small phillips head screws on the back of the screen that show when the phone is slid open. I landed on this thing while it was open, and drove my knee right into the screen, I'm surprised I didn't break anything else.
There are three more screws that you can't see behind the screen.... when its slid open you can only see 2 screws... There are actually 5

Does anyone have any luck with AT&T replacing things that are clearly accidental damage? With all the horror stories I hear about refurbished phones and the chance that they might send me one, I'd actually rather take my chances at fixing this. I've taken apart a ton of phones and fixed them before, and worked at a cell phone repair shop for a few months. I still have most of my tools lying around, including all the screw drivers I'd need to open this.
I was able to find an HTC service manual that doesn't really explain how to replace the digitizer. It does describe how to get it in two pieces, but I wouldn't know where to go from there.
I have the digitizer in my hand... There is a thing that hooks up to the phone itself so yes i'm pretty sure you have to take apart the entire thing.... I think i'm gonna take the phone to NYC and have someone that knows what they're doing repair it. I tried to get warrenty repair, but they said no because it is accidental damage. i pretty much tried everything before I ordered a new screen.

Found a good complete disassembly guide in Russian, why does the screen have to be the LAST thing to come out? I am now looking to buy an LCD/digitizer combo, but I can only find the one from Brando that is made for regular HTC Touch Pros, and not the Fuze (has a camera cutout instead of the AT&T logo).
If I end up having to replace the LCD I'd much rather break it trying to save $50 than just toss it. Is it really that hard to separate the digitizer from the LCD?

Well, we'll find out. I ordered both an AT&T Fuze digitizer by itself as well as an LCD with a digitizer attached. I'm just going to go ahead and replace everything with the combination unit and see if I can replace my broken digitizer without breaking my LCD in my free time. If it works, I have a spare or I can sell it

Hopefully I'll get it right, I made sure to order an AT&T Fuze digitizer that made it clear it wasn't for use with Sprint Touch Pros or Touch Pros with front facing camera.
The LCD+digitizer I ordered though may very well show up as any of the above, if they're not already attached I'm going to use the AT&T Fuze digitizer on the new LCD, and try and make a new working combo from my old LCD to resell. I'll make a detailed step by step with photos as well.

I think I can help you cos I repaired LCD and digitizer on Raphael a week ago. Digitizer and LCD are two separate parts joined by flat printed wires. If you need to change just one of them you will need to take apart whole phone.
Raphael consists from 2 main parts - 1. that one with keyboard 2nd part with LCD. You have to take apart both what is quite hard to realize if you this for the first time.
Once you are with your LCD you will see the flat wires grom lcd and digitizer meerged. Split them with your solddering gun carefully! Take new digitizer and solder flat wires together. Anyway there is no glue or liquid fluit or whatever between digitizer and LCD. But - remeber especially those who replacing just LCD - there is kind of black tape around the backside of LCD part (the silver side) - take it apart from old lcd and move to new one. If you dont you will see the rainbow on your LCD but just after assembling whole device together - it is quite concerning if you find out this kinf of malfunction just after such a hard work like a assembling this hellmade device

Thank you for some rather broken, but very helpful advice. Kinda sucks that I'm really happy since I don't have to worry about removing any adhesive, but now I have to sit here and solder flex cables. I shoulda bought a spare one

To anyone counting on being able to separate the LCD from the digitizer, DON'T. There is absolutely no way to separate them without destroying either or both. Also, take extreme caution when peeling up the flex cable, it is very easy to tear (I tore mine).
So my net cost, 80 + 50, LCD/Digitizer and Flex Cable = $130 vs. sending it to HTC $150. I advise anyone to just pay them rather than take this thing apart.

Fact of the matter is when people say this is a delicate phone to take apart, they mean it. I worked at a cell phone repair store for a few weeks, and learned how to take apart damn near anything (thank God this was before the iPhone existed). Not only are both flex cables in this phone taped down in 100 different places, making them very easy to tear while removing the tape, the adhesive used between the LCD and digitizer is STRONG. If you really wanted to separate them, you might have some luck with a straight edge and maybe an hour. Good luck, I'll let you all know how this turns out once I have my new flex cable, since I conveniently tore the volume buttons off the original.
I just got my screen today so we're gonna see some time next week how we do on this screen replacement....I'll let you know how it goes....
So far no luck with my digitizer. Has anyone had any luck just changing out the digitizer yet? The guy that was suppose to do mine is backing out because he doesn't want to risk cracking my LCD. I'm going through the same thing. Amazon has some digitizers for about $40. I decided to spend the extra $20 and get this instead

It's the whole casing. I didn't want to bother with stripping the digitzer off the frame which is glued on. With replacing the whole body, you just move the mainboard over and plug everything back in. At least this is my hope. I'll post here again when the thing actually arrives. I ordered it two weeks ago and it probably won't be here until mid March.

There's Youtube videos for disassembly. I haven't watched them myself, but I know they exist, so they probably tell you what tools you need there. From what I remember hearing, just some small torx screwdrivers, or maybe some small phillips, too, but don't quote me on those.

The amazon link in my previous post is what I bought. It was the whole body. There are just screen replacements but I didn't want to mess with that because the digitizer is glued to the front piece. I didn't want to risk warping or breaking the front piece and completely screwing myself over. Anyway, what I bought came with the tools you need to perform the teardown and an extra screwdriver that was not needed.
I am glad I did this. However, it came with it's share of issues.
-The very top of my digitizer does not work. As a result, I can't pull down the notification bar. I can get to it through the menu button but it is annoying.
-I had to move the ear speaker and loudspeaker over. They were glued to some foam which was stuck/glued to the chassis. That foam absorbed the vibration. When my phone rings loud it is nasty because the speaker is bouncing around. I tried to cut some foam myself to replace what was stuck in the old case. It helped but it's not perfect.
-There are some rubber buffers? Isolators? Not sure what their called which also needed to be moved over form the old case.
-It took a month to ship to my house. After discovering these issues, I am kind've stuck with them because it would take a month to send the parts back and another month to get a replacement. By then I'll be due for a new phone.
So that's my experience of replacing the whole case.

To add to this, because I'm sure there are others out there like me who intend to use their Eris until it gets run over, dropped in lava, drawn, quartered, and defecated upon . . .
I ordered the same replacement housing and digitizer as mentioned above, and had 2 small problems:
The housing I got had a nut in it that came loose, so that one of the corners wasn't able to reassemble properly.
There was something different in the new housing that caused the proximity sensor to function incorrectly.
For #1, I just used some super glue to weld the nut into place. This appears to have worked OK, but I fear that the point is weakened now and I will need to be very gentle if I disassemble the phone again.
For #2, The problem was that the housing was allowing bleed through inside the case from the proximity flasher to the light sensor, which caused the sensor to determine that there was something close to it when in fact there wasn't. I placed a small (oh so small) piece of electrical tape into the housing between where the IR flasher and sensor are located, and the problem was resolved.
If presented with the option of purchasing a new digitizer alone, or a new digitizer and housing together, follow groovel76's suggestion; it's well worth the time and money to go with the latter. The hassle of cleaning the old adhesive off of the new housing, and the risks of getting new adhesive in places where you don't want it far outweigh the cost of just getting a housing with adhesive pre-applied. I tried to do just a digitizer first, and ended up with a small amount of super glue (DO NOT RECOMMEND) getting on the new screen and the edge of the housing, as well as a screen that didn't seat properly because I didn't get quite all of the old bits out of the old housing. This resulted in dust getting under the screen and another crack when I attempted to fix what I'd screwed up the first time.
Between the availability of parts and ROMs for this phone, I see it being in my family for a LONG time yet.
Yes! Buy a digitizer online (most come with the tools you need such as the torx screwdrivers, mine did) and search for videos on youtube. That's what I did and it only cost me $37 for the digitizer and about 30 minutes of my time. And it worked perfectly as new when I got it all back together.
I dropped my phone today and the case shattered (thanks Amazon) along with the front screen being cracked. Funny thing is it works just fine 100% but the glass is cracked, which would be the gorilla glass digitizer right?
So can I like remove the digitizer, and put the phone in an otter box and be ready to go? Or is the digitizer ABSOLUTELY mandatory for the phone to operate? Really don't feel like the hassle of buying the digitizer and installing it.Thanks in advance.
I am pretty sure the digitizer is necessary for the touch screen to work. From what i remember the digitizer is what registers that there is an electrical impulse on the screen so it can register it is being pressed. so i think no it wont work if you just take out the digitizer and try to use it.

The digitizer is like an invisible mouse technically with no mouse you cant open apps unless you can do it all with the other hardware on the phone. It is connected to the phone with a ribbon cable, it's pretty much necessary.
There are phone repair shops that will order OEM parts and replace the glass+digitizer for you... check around locally.

The part costs about 50, but doubt part+repair would be anything under 70+ so most likely will do the repair myself next month or just trade-sell the phone. If I find a lapdock 2 for 150 then that is a third option that I'm willing to consider and will jump on it like white on rice.

The digitizer is not that hard to change, I've done several of them on different phones.
First, the story:
I dropped my phone and broke the screen. The screen is always black now, but from the sounds the phone makes, it sounds like it is still working.

Replaced the glass (digitizer) without issue. returned the phone to t-mo since prior to that it was having an issue with the hardware camera button being stuck always on. So long as you're patient, technical, and have a steady hand, do it, it's fine, just follow-the step-by-steps, and keep your screws and parts seperated at each step
I ordered a new LCD and digitizer, and will probably have some time to do the repair mid-late next week.
I went with the Sony version of the LCD based upon discussion in the following thread (in the 3rd post iynnoji says they tried a Hitachi LCD but it did not work):

I have to admit, I'm sort of glad I broke my phone, since learning to fix new things is such an enjoyable process. Yay! The repair was successful! Not having a cell phone really made me aware of how useful one is. Next time I upgrade I'll keep my old device around as a backup.
So some notes:
The screen assembly was really difficult to remove, due to the large amount of adhesive. When I took it off, the LCD split in two, with half attached to the screen assy and the other attached to the adhesive. Luckly I was intending on replacing the LCD anyway. Anyone else performing a screen or LCD repair should beware that this is a difficult step, and will take time and care.
The Sony LCD (P/N 60H00523) works fine with our device. As I previously mentioned, it would be nice to know if the Hitachi LCD (P/N 60H00512) works, as its $15 cheaper.
I wasn't careful enough when placing the LCD on the digitizer, and managed to a few dust particles sandwiched in there. Not a big deal, but if I were to do it again I'd check my work before assembling the rest of the phone.
I used the adhesive paper sold at repairs universe around the edges of the digitizer and put the phone in the oven @ 170 F for 5 minutes after assembly, then waited 10 minutes before using it. Everything seems solid.

Yay! The repair was successful! Not having a cell phone really made me aware of how useful one is. Next time I upgrade I'll keep my old device around as a backup.
So some notes:
The screen assembly was really difficult to remove, due to the large amount of adhesive. When I took it off, the LCD split in two, with half attached to the screen assy and the other attached to the adhesive. Luckly I was intending on replacing the LCD anyway. Anyone else performing a screen or LCD repair should beware that this is a difficult step, and will take time and care.
The Sony LCD (P/N 60H00523) works fine with our device. As I previously mentioned, it would be nice to know if the Hitachi LCD (P/N 60H00512) works, as its $15 cheaper.
I wasn't careful enough when placing the LCD on the digitizer, and managed to a few dust particles sandwiched in there. Not a big deal, but if I were to do it again I'd check my work before assembling the rest of the phone.
I used the adhesive paper sold at repairs universe around the edges of the digitizer and put the phone in the oven @ 170 F for 5 minutes after assembly, then waited 10 minutes before using it. Everything seems solid.

LCD splitting sounds messy I replaced my digitizer and there is loads of dust under it now. Gonna get it professionally done.

I recently dropped my TF300 (in the process of jerry-rigging a carrying case for it, might I add) and it happened to shatter the glass and tear some of the ribbon for the digitizer, rendering it completely useless. The LCD beneath is fine, in fact I have already separated the LCD from the digitizer itself.
My question is:
Can I buy a replacement digitizer for the TF200 and install it to my TF300?
They seem to be the same ribbons and i'm sure the dimensions are the same.
The problem is the digitizer for the TF300 is around $150 and just $50 for the TF200.
Dude word of advice only buy the tf300 glass. But replacing it will be a pain but good luck to you

i recently smashed up the same digitizer of my tf300t. There are no videos about opening the thing, so i proceeded and could unplugged the digitizer without any complication. So, after long searching i found ur question and realize that the connector is just the same. I'm almost sure that tf200 should work properly with tf300.

I'm sure you have probably figured this out by now, since it's been months, but the TF200 and the TF300 digitizers are indeed DIFFERENT.. And the TF300 can be procured pretty easily these days for about $70.00..
So, this is for the benefit of anyone else who happens to stumble across this post.
Also, heed, there has been a significantly high rate of folks, myself included, who have changed the digitizer out only to find that the touch-screen still doesn't work due to some other issue..
