Hey guys,
Since I've updated my razr hd(fido) to JB, I lost root access. Before that, I had rooted it and been able to use autoproxy.
What I want is to root the device which is now on JB. I have researched a bit and I know http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970267 doesn't work for canadian razr hd.
Thanks in advance!
Protected root?

Did you try to protect root first?

No, I wasn't aware of doing it and that's why I lost root access.
If your bootloader is unlocked you can root JB. Let me find the thread.

The method I linked works.
Is it seriously too much work to revert to an older version, gain root, save root, then update and regain root?
If it is, maybe you shouldn't be bothering?
Just Root using Universal Xoom Root, then flash the latest Super User from here http://androidsu.com/superuser/ using CWR I used the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip from then I gained root on 4.1.1
I just got this device as a new phone. it came with 4.1.1.
I followed the procedure to downgrade, root, and upgrad.
I am now at 4.1.1, rooted.
The 4.1.2 update has downloaded on my phone, and it is asking me if i want to install. Will i loose root? is Voodoo broken for this update? or will i be ok if i temp un-root, and then take the update?
I don't want to take the update if it will kill my hard-earned root. I know it is sometimes lost when taking this update. Should i do it or not? and what is the "right" way to do it to protect root?
be helpful to know your device, if u on xt 925 you can, if on xt 926 then chill

Not dev edition. Will stay put. Thanks for the input
What do we miss by not taking the update? anything of value?

Just unroot, install update and restore root. That's what I did and it was fine, until someone told me SBF'ing would give me better battery life, now I lost root. Wish I had just left it. I have XT926 non-dev edition. Use voodoo rootkeeper.
We got root now!

No worries, we now have root ability for the HD on 4.1.2 thanks to Dan R! Check for it as I am unable to post links at the moment.
I didn't see a link here on XDA yet so forgive the external link.
I had tried SBF back to 4.1.1 and 4.0.4 after a buggy 4.1.2 update, only to soft brick my phone. SBF of 4.1.2 got me functional again thank goodness. so I waited for a root app, got one yesterday.
even with root out for 4.1.2, it was safe to take the OTA on 926 consumer.
I took a chance and upgraded my maxx hd using the OTA (i used rootkeeper)... but it stayed rooted no problem after the update and didn't run into any issues or bugs that i could tell... Was also able to boot up another slot on still on 4.1.1... Nothing too significant in 4.1.2 over 4.1.1 though... but it's moot now since the root's been released

i own a motorola razr hd (dev edition) purchased directly from moto. its not droid (verizon) branded
i want to root it but i cant find any info for rooting a non-droid razr hd
does it make a difference? will i ruin my phone if i root with droid root?
if i can use the droid root with no ill effect i would be grateful to know for sure,if not, i would appreciate links to the needed pages.
thnx in advance,

I have XT925 International Version of Razr HD and I rooted using motochopper. It worked. You can find info here in XDA.

Are you planning on running stock recovery? OUDHS rooted for me after I flashed it... wasn't going to bother with stock at all but when I went in to make a nandroid it detected no root & prompted to see if I'd like to root, after which I made a titanium backup as well before cracking into some ROM's - worked like a charm. I assume CWM/TWRP does something similar. Rogers/Fido XT925.
Root method

Hello! I bought XT925 just a few days ago. It had JB 4.1.2 out of the box. I tried to root it for a few times without a sucess using several different methods found on the internet. Then I was sucessful with ˝motochopper¨ ! This is, as far as I know, only method to root XT925 with JB 4.1.2. On other android versions everything will work but on JB 4.1.2 XT925 only motochopper works. Phone works great after the root. Don't worry about using this on your device... Google out ˝motochopper.zip¨ Good luck
