Hey guys so I recently downloaded the stock Motorola keyboard but when I try to install it it says there is a same package installed. So I try to look for the keyboard but I can't find it. Any help? Thanks in advance

It will be in /system/app named something like LatinIme.apk or LatinImeGoogle.apk. Make extra sure you make a backup of it first just in case. Then, I don't think you can install it like a normal app so you'll probably have to place the new one in that directory, set permissions to rw-r--r-- change owner to 0-root and group to 0-root then reboot. Try that, and let me know now it goes.

Yeah I copied and backed up the latin Apk and pasted the Motorola keyboard and changed.the permissions but when I try to change the ownership the root browser force closes. Btw I mean the stock Motorola keyboard not the stock android keyboard

Should be the same whether Motorola or android since it's a system app. Which root browser are you using? I've always used Root Explorer, but I've read other posts by people using ES Explorer as well.

Alright so I installed es file manager and enabled root explorer. I can't find onwership in the options however

Hmm, I haven't actually tried that one since I paid for Root Explorer a couple of years ago. I'm gonna install it and check it out....

I don't see it either. Weird because I have seen several people on here using it for this type of thing. Sorry, but I'm at a loss. I know Root Explorer works, but I don't know about buying it for just one thing. Maybe an ES Explorer user can chime in and help because now I'm curious.

I might just purchase it and try to return it later. I got the keyboard to show up but it fcs each time I try to use it. I guess I need to set up ownership still.
Edit
I guess ill just wait for the devs to update root browser lite for a fix for the ownership. Thanks though

I just flashed Rebel rom and its amazing. But I just hate the sony launcher. so, can I just download the blur home from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23730009&posted=1#post23730009 and just throw it in system/app to get the moto home back?
I havent tried it but you can always try making a nandroid backup and flashing the CWM on boot just in case you get in a bootloop and that way you can go restore just your system....make sure you set permissions to rw and I recommend root explorer vs es explorer.

Just do not delete the Ericson home unless the moto blur home does work. Let me kniw asap if it does work. I dont think youll have many issues but then again im not a dev so proceed with caution.

I'm iffy on whether or not to do it or not without a devs approval. And I am far too lazy at the moment to flash CWM on boot. (I am typing this in between BFBC2 games) so I may do that later or not. I just want to see if I have approval to move it from my root to system/app
Ok, I just copied my blurhome.apk to system/app and nothing happened. I then went to settings>apps>all apps>and cleared the default on my launcher, hit my home button, choose home and everything worked flawlessly.....
It even has the ics launcher icons.....
Edit: Rebooted the phone and everything seems slick and smooth with motohome ics themed on rebel ROM beta 2....

Alright, I don't think I'm doing something right. Did you push it to system/app with adb or did you just place the apk right in the folder with root explorer? If you did the latter, how do you install it or whatever?

I use super manager for my root explorer and it says (not installed) next to blurhome2.apk. and when I click moto home it says not a motoblur device. how do i install it in system? Do I have to reboot first?
Try root browser. That's what I used. Delete super explorer and delete the blur home 2 out of the system and retry with root browser

Hey guys I've been rooting and flashing for a while now but never have really needed to push or install an app to this directory. I'm trying to install the new ics messaging app from the market but can't seem to get it. I'm using root explorer to move it to system/app and I tried disabling the stock messaging app but I always get force closes when I try and click on thread in the new ics messaging app....any help would be greatly appreciated.

---------- Post added at 03:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 AM ----------
Anyway to push. U can shutdown phone boot to cwm. Mount system. Open cmd prompt on your pc . And type adb push [ yourfile path and name] /system/app
Then adb reboot
And it sounds like an incompatible app your trying to use.
You drive a subie too? Nice
Anyways....This one...

Thanks buddy! I'm guessing this apk enables rooted devices to create mobile hotspots without paying tmobile..
It's the stock app, but with a custom APN you can tether with or without root.
Add a custom Access Point Name, name it whatever you want and set the apn to epc.tmobile.com, save it and set it as default. Tether away.

Is because it's a system app. Push it to system/app and fix permissions, then reboot.
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA Premium
I got it in system/app, changed permissions rebooted and no go, or do you mean fix permissions in ROM manager ?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
It shouldn't matter how you fix them, as long as they stick through the reboot.
You can try going into system/app and installing it from there by clicking on the app. Might not work, though... Might be something else you need. Maybe an odex file, but I don't have root, so I can't pull mine.

To the other guy
"What is VM?"
VM is the ability to listen to messages approximately 10-15 seconds faster than using traditional VM. This results is savings me about 2-5 minutes per month which makes it worth while to pay the $2.99 fee for the Verizon service
EDIT:
From the looks of the file, it appears to be an APK. Any reason why you renamed it as a zip? -Also the APK failed to install. Any idea why? I tried zipaligning again just in case, but it wouldn't zipalign.
hmmm
not sure why that happened
rename it to .apk
then
Use a file explorer with root access and drop it in /system/app/, set perms to rw-r--r-- and reboot

by copying it to system/app and changing permissions it IS installed

download the wallet apk and open up a file browser that had root access (root browser, root explorer don't use efs). Go to your downloads folder and long press the apk file and press copy. The go to /system/app and press paste. Find that apk you just pasted and long press. Select permissions. Give it rw-r--r-- (two boxes checked on the first line, one on the next two lines). Reboot your phone and when it's done, it should say android is upgrading. Wallet is now installed.
