Hey all, I am using jackpotclavins latest build on my rooted kindle fire. Everything is great and I know ICS lost usb mass storage support, so there is apps on the market to do so. one that everyone uses is USB mass storage toggle, Its even on my droidx with ics. Now this app in older versions will mount but it will mount an unknown file system and it will want me to format it. The newer version does it sometimes. I was wonder if it had to do with the kindle fire having multiple partitions on one memory card? tried to post this to the ics thread in developer sforum but i have less than 10 post.
i can't answer your question specifically with respect to usb mass storage toggle, however i'm using an app called dual mount sd ($0.99 on the market) and it's working beautifully for me with the latest ICS build.
Been using the AoKP with kernel 6 for a few days and of course don't have USB but I usually transfer over WIFI anyway (that works fine).
Anytime I must use USB I just boot into recovery, mount, do my thing, then unmount and reboot.
Works fine in a pinch.
Hello all,
Complete noob here, let alone first android device and coming from Iphone. After I got my first Android device; the Samsung Galaxy Note (I717) I opted to go for another operating system to enable the tethering feature. I was successful in rooting my phone, installing CWM, and successfully flashing my ROM to the latest CM9 ROM.
However, I have a few simple task that I simply cannot accomplish, they are as follows:
1. Computer can no longer see phone as a mass USB storage device. I have enabled USB debugging mode on phone through settings.
2. No music player app can see my music files I have loaded on my microSD card, of which I have manually loaded through the computer to the microSD card.
3. the gallery cannot see my pictures I have transferred into the SD card.
However, all these files can be seen and accessed only through the OI File Manager app on the phone.
I do not know what I am missing.
Can somebody help Please?
Thank you,
Jeff

First of all, welcome to XDA!
Second, under Settings>Storage, does the SD card appear in the list? It could possibly be a ROM issue.
Hi,
Thank you so much for the warm welcome.
Yes, my SDcard does indeed show up under settings within the storage list.
Jeff

No custom roms have been made till now!
Samsung will release ICS update and possibly a jelly bean update too later.
Currently, CyanogenMod 10(Jelly Bean) is being made!
Hi all,
I ask here in order to not open a new thread.
Do you know how the f$·"$"·k to disable the MTP connection on this phone? I want only USB mass storage, but currently I'm not able to access the external SD card, only the internal one. Folders "external_sd" and "usbStorage" are empty (I guess the phone mounts the ext SD on one of them)
I tried to enable USB debugging, then Settings -> Wireless networks -> USB settings, but there are not choices to choose P); I can only "connect to PC", without any chance to get to ext SD card, as mentioned.
Any ideas?

Opening a new thread is appropriate in this case; also, you can't simply post off topic content -- that's 1000x worse than opening a new thread. I recommend trying the specific forum for your phone.
On my phone, it's under:
Code:
Settings->Sony Ericsson->Connectivity->USB connection mode
. Obviously, it will differ for your phone.

I can't find any nightly build for the Galaxy Ace 2. Do you have some news about this dev ?
Try to re-install samsung drivers for mtp device in Windows then You shoud get both int and ext SD.
And for now mtp is "the one" connection type You can get.
Enabling debuging should allow You to run adb. Then You can push and pull files to/from device.
All best.

Okay, USB Mass Storage mode, what about it?
My Galaxy Note 5.3 with ICS has it. My Galaxy S3 with ICS does not have it.
I've been Googling for hours, and getting nowhere. The Samsung website says the N8000 has "USB Mass Storage Mode". But two posters on XDA say that it does not.
What I like to do is keep my PC file directory synced to my Samsung device. On my old Galaxy Tab 7 Classic, I can just plug it in (USB Mass Storage Mode), and it mounts and works. I then use ROBOCOPY (Windows rsync wannabe) and it syncs up just fine, and very quickly. I've got it in a batch file, I just plug in, double-click the icon, and it goes.
On the S3, MTP mode, as everyone seems to already know, doesn't cut it at all. It can't detect dates or metadata, so it wants to re-copy everything, in very slow MTP mode. UGH!
Prior to the ICS update for my note 5.3, I just rooted and used Samba.
So my questions:
1. Can someone definitively confirm whether the GT-N8000 Galaxy Note 10.1 has true USB Mass Storage mode support, or not?
2. If not, do we think Samsung is going to add it, as they did with the Galaxy note 5.3?
3. If not, is Samba the right way to go here? Is there a better way?
4. I've heard that "Airdroid" might be good, but does it support syncing a la rsync or robocopy?
5. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to proceed?
Thank you all so much for your patience and guidance!
Glen

My Galaxy S2 has USB Mass Storage mode... and I'm very dissapointed that the Note 10.1 does not have USB Mass Storage mode. Why do they keep changing these file structures... its so inconsistent.
One of the reasons I jumped from Transformer Prime TF201 to the Note 10.1 is because I thought the file structure in the Note 10.1 is better sturctured, just like the S2.
Anyone has any work around this? I do not want to always remove my microSD card all the time.

In settings/developer options, select usb debugging. Then when you connect to pc you should get mass storage hookup
You just need the MTP drivers .........
On WinXP machines mostly You will have to download KIES , install it to get drivers installed but not run it, connect 10.1 via USB and voila You will have a folder showing "phone" and sdcard folder.
Now You can use the sdcard card as mass storage. Only when it comes to transfer of files not recognized by Android or the device it will ask You wether it should be copied , just click yes.
On most win7 pcs Sammy devices are recognized automatically as MTP ...........
Same issue here , and for windows 8 i can't get the right drivers for it , the pc can't recognize the device in case i installed last version of Samsung Kies
The Note 10.1 uses MTP like the S3. I used this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009 on my Note 10.1 and it lets me mount the external micro SD card when I plug it into my Windows 7 computer. You have to be rooted w/ busybox installed. It should work for the S3 also, since that is what it was made for.
Good luck!
go to settings...
I'm running ICS 4.0.4 on galaxy note which runs MTP mode by default.
Usb mass storage mode can be enabled from settings-> wireless and network (more) -> usb utilities... turn on mass storage
There u r... hope it helps
is there a mod for the note 10.1 for ums?
Bump for an old question -
Is there a working solution for USB mass storage mode that works well with our note yet ?

Try mounting the internal sd a card in windows or mac and try using a mac or windows application.

If you are able to mount the internal sd as card in your pc then you should be able to do it, since it would be acting like any other hard drive
I dont think this is possible with stock firmware.. but if you are able to install an asop rom like CM then you might have option to do it by using some app like ums mass storage enabler or so..

First post, sorry if this isn't the correct place to start the thread
Alright so I'm running resurrection remix 6.1.0 rom on my rooted oneplus 3T (android version 8.1.0)
The other day, I was trying to input a usb otg into my phone but it would not recognise. Searched all over the settings but there were no options for the usb otg (didnt seem like RRemix supported it)
Now what I did next was kinda stupid on my part, so after searching over the internet and various forums, I tried two approaches
First one was to go to the terminal, entered 'su' to get root access and entered 'sm set-force-adoptable true'
Now I'll admit that I didn't know what this command was at that time, but it still didn't make my phone recognise the otg usb
Next I installed the StickMount app from playstore, mounted the mass storage, but again didnt make my phone recognise the otg usb
But then the problems started to arise, and note that I had enough internal storage (60%)
First I couldnt update some apps (says not enough storage while 11% through download)
Couldnt take pictures nor screenshots (again says no storage)
Also couldnt delete any files Ive downloaded through the default file app ( but can delete any apps)
However I could still download new apps or new files from the internet
So I'm guessing I stuffed up the SD card/ internal storage systems. I was thinking of flashing the RR rom again and starting the phone fresh but that would be a waste of time as I have to set up everything again
I have also tried the command 'sm set-force-adoptable false' but no success
So I'm wondering, are there any ways of undoing whatever I just did, without having to wipe everything and restart??
Thank you so much for any replies, I'll make sure to know what I'm doing in the future before I follow instructions on the net haha
also just curious, but would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me what I just did, searched over the internet but couldnt find a precise answer. My phone also does not have an external SD card
What you did was tell the device to use an external storage device as part of the Interminal storage.
You will have to start over from scratch. Make sure to back everything up.
What you want to do is part of their closed sources rom. I have never had a single aosp based roms with otg.

Luckily I decided to do a reboot and super glad it fixed everything. Camera app works perfectly and my phone can recognise my storage again
