How to fix scratches? - Asus Transformer TF700

So I noticed some light surface scratches on my screen today. Not sure how they got there but was wondering what you guys would recommend for some sort of scratch remover? I wanna be careful about using any sort of polish because it has abrasives in it. I'm looking more for something to fill in the scratches. Any suggestions?

I have tried low-abrasive paste on the screen of my LG O2x after an inadvertent scratching de bravura on my part (party setting, with me going "look guys, I can forcefully rub this display with a spoon and it won't... Oh. Crap." ) -- no go. The Gorilla Glass (v1, compared to our v2) wouldn't budge. As to "filling in": my father-in-law has tried that once, and it interfered severely with his ability to swipe and select. Are the scratches deep enough to feel them during normal day use?

Odd this would come up...two weeks ago I noticed an inch long light scratch on the glass.
Was hopeful it was just a rub mark from the stylus and tried cleaning off with Invisible Glass to no avail.
Oh well I thought I'll just mark it up to use.
Now I can't find the scratch...looked for it and it's gone!
Weird...
*tip
Try a soft non abrasive automotive paste wax on the screen...it may hide the scratches...it won't last forever tho.

The scratches aren't deep but if you lightly drag the back side of your fingernail over them you can feel resistance. They aren't very bad but bug the hell out of me since this thing is only a month old and I'm a stickler about taking really good care of my electronics.

That was the same with my O2x -- I also take good care of any belongings, and this happened on like the third day I had it. I never succeeded in really removing the minor scratches on its screen surface -- my then-girlfriend-now-wife didn't care and adopted it. I couldn't stand the feel of it, probably out of sheer guilt.

I bought a zagg screen shield after I scratched mine, with the protector on I can't feel nor see the scratches anymore. I imagine this only works for small shallow scratches though. Worth a try, and no new scratches.

Yea I had one of those on my phone and hated it. Just something about having a naked silky smooth screen to drag your fingers across that gets taken away when you put one of those on.

My gorilla glass just dramatically failed

Hey guys,
I'm a little pissed right now... I woke up about 3 hours ago, my screen was perfectly scratchless. Now although, i got 3 scratches only from having the phone lay on the desk (display up), typing 2 SMS and trying out new widgetlocker designs.
I didnt do anything else. No putting in pocket (although that worked fine for weeks now), no smashing it on the ground, not even laying it in the sun. Nothing!
Now i got 3 scratches from basically doing ****. One of the 3 is almost 5mm long! Can you belive this? I'm speechless and dissapointed. And worst of all, i cant even explain it! It would be ok if i had had the phone in the pocket, or i threw it around or something. But this, this just sucks
Sorry for whining but i had to get it out.
that's why it's still advisable to put a Screen guard on the DS even though it's a gorilla glass. Remeber, the screeb is scratch resistant but not scratch proof. Good thing is that I applied a SP on my DS since day 1.
Yeah, i applied a screen protector after some minutes of having the phone.. i have the phone like 2 weeks and all the protector is full of scratches... i hope it didnt get to the screen.. yeah.. its not scratch proof.. its the opposite.. scratch magnet haha
sure, your right. But this **** that just happend to me is not reproducable. I just tryed to scratch it with a pen and a knive an _nothing_ happened.
So how the **** can a screen be scratched with my own fingers?! Thats so frustrating. Like winning the lottery. I have had the phone now for over a month and had it always unprotected in my pockets, but now my own ****ing fingers scratch the display? This cant be right.
Sand grains can easily scratch the screen...
scratch
similar thing happened to me, kept phone in pocket on its own. Pulled it out the other day to see a hairline scratch about 2cm long. Gutted

there is just no possible way that your fingers(or nails) could have scratched the gorilla glass screen. even if it was normal glass it is not possible
but sand(or more accurately SiO2) can scratch your gorilla glass...Easily (as its hardness is 7 on the mohs scale)
it is possible that your screen was scratched earlier & you didnt notice it (sometimes a scratch is not visible till its wiped)
or you could have had some sand particles in your hand..
forget about the current scratches & get a screen protector immediately to prevent from more damage
& btw gorilla glass is only scratch resistant not scratch proof
(but there arent many common things that can scratch it other than sand ofc)

It definitly wasnt scratched earlier. The sad thing about the 5mm scratch is, that its always visible. The other two are just visible when the screen is off, but the big one is constantly popping out (its more or less breaking up the colours like a prisma)
Yeah its gotta be sand although i would be more happy if it were diamonds
I just put on a protector which came with casemate. Although it has bad reviews (the glass protector), it works quite fine on my device. What i most liked on the gorilla glass itself was that it was very fingerprint resistant. I ll see if the glass protector can keep up with that.
I knew that gorilla glass wasnt scratch immune. But its kinda ironic that only a tiny grain of sand could do so much damage, whereas nothing happend for the past 7 weeks under completely different (tougher) conditions.

what do you mean tougher??diamonds?emerald?
anything even slightly harder than sand can Easily scratch the screen
dont under estimate sand its harder than you think
its harder than steel(hardened steel is harder though)

Of couse i didnt mean diamonds
I meant the dust and the many sand particles in my pockets and the constant rubbing and bouncing around in my pockets.
So this summer i have to buy a screen protector if i go to the seaside (lots of sand there) . But i will only keep it on for the stay there. I like the screen the way it is !!!scratchless
I'm on my second desire s now and both times I managed to scratch the screen in just a few days of ownership. My previous desire, whilst picking up a couple of fine scratches seemed to survive a bit better somehow, at least on my current desire s it is not very noticeable.
You get over it eventually! I don't use a case or screen protector because they make the phone and screen look too crap IMO. I just accept that it's a working piece of kit and it's gonna pick up wear and tear, although I do my best to avoid damaging it.
You have my sympathy!
I'm also a nudist. Phone already dropped once. Cursed much. But screen is still ok so far.

Unfortunately I drink at the weekends, and alcohol and the phone don't mix well, dropped phone twice and have managed to fortunately only scratch the paint from the case bottom left corner and top right, only a couple of tiny scratches on screen, consider myself lucky and I don't have so problem

Anyone else scratch their screen too easily?

I got like three scratches on my screen yesterday and I have no idea why. I never ever have put it screen down. I am 100% sure nothing was in my pocket including any dirt OR sand. I guess there MAY be a very faint chance that my keys were in the same pocket for a second but I truly don't think so. I am extra anal about this thing, laughably so. I buff it, I take my pocket inside out and smack it around, I make sure the screen is facing out in my pocket. So I'm usually very conscious of which pocket my keys are in. I hate scratches and do everything in my power to prevent them.
All that said, anyone else in my boat? Got a scratch you can't explain? My whole point here is that if this is really Gorilla Glass, I shouldn't have any scratches let alone THREE! Certainly not from keys. I'm really bummed about this. The fact that I don't know why makes it worse LOL. I'm gonna see if ghost armor will hide it I guess.
So if anyone is listening, get a screen protector. I'm regretting not getting one big time
gorilla glass is very tough but not impervious. keys will still scratch it.
Sand is extremly hard and even 1 grain will make a mess.

im looking at my screen right now there are no scratches at all my phone still looks the same when i bought it
Just noticed a very small scratch on mine tonight. I thought it was dust under the screen but you can definitely feel it when you run a finger nail across it. No idea how it got there. It's either in my hands or in a microfiber lined leather pouch. Time for a screen protector.

I've got a hairline scratch on mine that can only be seen under strong halogen lights or fluorescent lights, under normal lights or daylight it just isn't there, so maybe people have more scratches than they realise.
The annoying thing was, it scratched by my wiping the fingerprints off with a microfibre cloth. I was cleaning it under the halogen light so saw it happen. Must have been a speck of dirt or something on the cloth.
At least it doesn't show up 99% of the time so I'm not too bothered about it
So what's the best way of wiping off those fingerprints, if microfibre cloths can actually scratch it?
Let me quote my comment from the previous thread about gorrila glass screens...
"I just love how people on this board are so utterly misinformed. The problem is people believe it is indestructible. You can and will scratch your gorilla screen if you don't properly protect it. Anyone who believes otherwise deserves to have their **** scratched."
Harsh I know, but some people really do think gorilla glass can't be scratched.

micro scratches?

Is anyone else experiencing micro scratches?
I've baby'd my phone since I got it, never letting the screen touch anything, the pocket I put it in only ever has my phone it in, nothing else, ever.
Just recently after owning the phone for a little over a month now, im noticing micro scratches on the screen.
It's not normally seeable, but if your in a place with bright lighting or outside its pretty noticable and really annoying.
I figured with the gorilla glass on these things It'd wouldnt be an issue to not have a screen protector, especially for someone as careful as me.

Lol this. It sounds freaking ridiculous that something that is sharp/dangerous to us, can't damage the phone, but something we don't even think about can.
Damn Mohs, and his scale.
These phones come with an oleo phobic coating, so some of the micro scratches could be in that as well.
and yeah, dust and sand can contain ground up quartz, sucks.. :/

Really? My Gnex did too, and that felt ALOT better than the straight glass on the HOX. I love this phone, but that's one of the few things I miss about the Nexus
I'm going to try to pickup an invisible shield for it.
I figure that even though the screen protector wont fill in the scratches, the light would reflect off the invisible shield instead of the screen making the scratches less noticeable. Does that make sense?
Yes. I had a few scratches on my sensation, and I put a skinomi screen protector on it, and now you can't see the scratches.

If you would like, ATT puts them on for free in store I'm pretty sure. But the shields are expensive. I've heard some great reviews on skinomi so you could give that a shot. As far as a steamy bathroom, I usually turn on the shower for a little it really does help. Might be a placebo but I've gotten all my screen protectors near perfect.. I'm having too much fun using the phone naked though. Still contemplating getting a screen protector cause it would help with the face grease after talking on the phone.
I should be able to get an invisbleshield for fairly cheap locally.
Or I could order the bodyguardz screens online and get a 2 pack for about the same price as the invisbleshield, but then I have to wait a week.
Has anyone tried toothpaste or something else to remove the scratches? I have been contemplating it but I haven't seen any conclusive answer on what does and does not work.
From what some said, toothpaste works by grinding down the glass to get even with the scratches. Didn't sound like a good idea to me but I am open to suggestions

the toothpaste trick is NOT FOR PHONES.
Don't do it, you'll most likely scratch the **** out of your screen and make it look really foggy.

Screen covered in scratches despite best care

I picked up my tablet the other day to find a three centimetre gouge across the middle of the screen. I had left it in its protective case out of all harm's way and am mystified as to how so-called fortified glass can scratch. This afternoon I've found two more similar sized scratches. I'm absolutely livid that a brand new device can scratch so easily (it's as if my fingertips are causing it to scratch, it's simply incredible)
Can anyone explain how exactly glass can scratch like this with no contact other than a user's fingers? I feel like chucking it in the bin as at this rate I won't be able to see the screen in a week Is it possible that there are tiny, invisible grains of sand on the screen and rubbing these is causing the gouges?
To anyone else who's bought or is planning on buying an A510, do yourselves a favour and get a screen protector.
I'd recommend a screen protector on every device you use. Once bitten, twice shy :good:
Regardless of the marketing trash-talk, it is glass. Gorilla and other 'special' glasses do have a somewhat better resistance to scrapes and scratches than regular mineral glass but to be honest, Gorilla glass' best selling point is its lateral strength not its abrasion resistance, and even this isn't spectacular. In fact, most people tend to buy into the marketing and work Gorilla glass a little harder as they (rightly) expect more durability, then end up sorely disappointed.
I'd check the felt/lining of your protective case carefully for sand, tiny rocks, stray bits of plastic, wire poking through etc. Run over it completely with a piece of masking/packing tape on your fingers to remove strays. Then grab a screenie ASAP to prevent any more nasties
Sorry about your experience mate. I know it's heart-breaking.
welcome to the club. i too though they would be a bit more resistant to scratches, but i discovered a couple faint scratches too, then i promptly went looking for a screen protector.
murphys law though, a screen protector never gets scratched, and only annoys you.
Thanks for the warning OP. I was lucky that I didn't get to scratch my tab in my 2 weeks of "unprotected" use. Then again, I restrained myself from playing screen swiping games such as Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Shadowgun, or even Dead Trigger. I only contained my self in Asphalt 6 as it mainly uses accelerometer controls.
Still, sorry to hear about your screen, and I hope you get to find a screenguard ASAP.

I had an A500 for over a year. No screen protector and when I sold it the glass was pristine - no marks visible with magnification and good lighting. All it takes is a tiny piece of sand to cause a scratch.
I have a question for the guys who started using screen protectors? How is it visually? Does the screen look worse? Is the sensitivity impacted a lot? How does it feel to the swipes?

Question How is your Ultra holding up? Scratches etc

My ultra is now 3 months old. I have the burgundy version. Even though I’ve been particular about cleaning it there is a tiny paint chip on the camera
https://imgur.com/Yb9IkHY
small permanent case markings that look like dust particles.
https://imgur.com/hSyYaMo
tried using one of lens wipes to clean it but it didn’t come off.
I’m curious how phones are holding up for you guys.
Still pretty much same condition as when I took it out of the box, already had the case & screen protector waiting so I didn't waste any time when it was delivered.

I was actually surprised how easy the screen has gotten a ton of small little scratches, suppose its my fault for hating screen protectors and cases, finally started using Whitestonedome screen protectors and currently using the latercase.
Surprisingly the back of my phone still looks brand new
Mine is good so far. It comes out of the case every other day and it and the case get a wipe down with a damp cloth. Then dried with a microfiber cloth before going back in the case.
If you leave the phone in the case for long periods of time, abrasive particles will get in between the phone and case and the damage begins.
Mine is doing great. I treat it like my car; I use it as designed, clean it occasionally, and do a little maintenance every so often.

I have the Black one and no scratches toll now (using without case) but camera has small Spot... The white one with no paint on the shell from my friend ist perfekt till now... Think next time i go for white
Put an Otterbox on the device right away but not a screen protector. The screen is extremely prone to micro scratches which can only be seen when screen is off, or with very low backlight and dark image (I've had the device a month an already some prominent micro scratches) . Awaiting screen protectors in the mail. This is a bummer as previous versions of gorilla glass stood up better to micro scratches (never had nearly the micro scratches on my S20 which I ran for 2 years without screen protection) . Pay off I guess for having better shatter protection.
Iv been running case with a naked screen ever since I realized that every protector ive tried affects either swipe typing and more so Spen responsiveness. Thank God tmobile allows you to add insurance to phones they offer regardless if it's bought from them or 3rd parties. The phone is just way to smooth for any obstructions for me.
