Welcome to SentinelROM for Nexus 7. Compiled with Linaro toolchain from modded CM10.1 source. Android 4.2.2.
This ROM is compiled from CyanogenMod 10.1 with all the features you get in a CM10.1 ROM, plus the following features.
Compiled with Linaro toolchain
Zip Aligned
LMT Pie Controls.
Compiled from latest CyanogenMod 10.1 source by me, not a 'cooked ROM'.
OTA Updates supported
Improved Web Browsing performance
Improved 3D gaming performance
Amazing battery life
Additional theming and UI customisation
FAST support via this page and our Facebook Page
________________________
This ROM has been built to enhance the CyanogenMod 10.1 experience, with faster gaming and web browsing performance (no choppyness in Chrome too!).
Countless hours have been spent making tweaks to settings to squeeze the most performance I can find out of this ROM while still providing excellent battery life and without the dangers of overclocking and kernel level tweaking.
I compile this ROM and Kernel from the latest CyanogenMod source code, add my various tweaks and adjustments, then test for stability, so you get all the benefits of CyanogenMod 10.1, plus my tweaks and extras, all without the instability and inconvenience of flashing CyanogenMod nightlies (which are not designed specifically for the Nexus 7 like my ROM is.
The kernel source is available from the CyanogenMod's GitHub.
Please note that I do not own a Nexus 7. this ROM is tested on my Nexus 10, compiled again from source to suit the Nexus 7 and tested by my lovely tester team, then released for you to enjoy. Therfore I ask that you please repot any issues you come across in this thread so I can do my best to sort them out ASAP.

None that I am aware of. Please report any bugs ASAP.
Note: On CM10.1 ROMs, to access the internal SD card on your device via USB on your PC, please go to "Settings" - "About Tablet" and tap on "Build Number" repeatedly to unlock "Developer Options". Now go to "Developer Options" and enable "Android Debugging".
________________________
If installing for the first time:
To install this ROM you will need to have an unlocked bootloader and a custom Recovery such as TWRP or ClockWorkMod installed (personally I recommend TWRP, I have had issues with restoring backups using CWM).
Copy the downloaded SentinelROM zip to your Internal Storage.
Boot into your custom recovery
Back up your stock ROM
Factory Reset and wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
Format System partition
Install the ROM
Install GAPPS package
Reboot - First boot may take up to 5 minutes
Important: After installation you will be asked if you want to turn on CyanogenMod Statistics, please leave it off as this is an unofficial/modified build.
Note: Use of titanium backup to restore apps and data from another ROM is not recommended, and is the source of 90% of user issues, especially when it comes to battery life. Do so at your own risk.
You may flash other kernels as you wish via recovery. Remember to also flash the correct libraries for any 3rd party kernels. Instructions will be given by the Kernel author. NOTE: Updating the ROM via OTA will also overwrite any custom Kernels you have installed.

Please visit my FAQ's page before asking questions in the thread. Chances are the answer is already there! I'm always happy to help out with any other questions.
________________________
NOTE: Unless otherwise stated, the following mods are developed by SentinelROM users and therefore I can only offer limited support for problems caused by using them.
Clock and status bar mods - Use these for transparent status bar and centre clock, etc - Thanks to "peetu20"

A huge thanks to my Nexus 7 testing crew! You guys make this ROM possible! Special thanks to XDA member Fadawah.
Thanks very much to all those who have answered my questions through the process of creating my own ROM, you know who you are.
CyanogenMod for their outstanding work. Full credit to them for the bulk of this ROM.
OTA-UpdateCenter.pro for their OTA database support and OTA Updater app source.

If you already have LMT Pie Controls installed, uninstall it before flashing this update. This update contains a customized version.

A run through of SentinelROM for Nexus 7 by user WeeFeeri
Setting up LMT Pie Controls

Flashed this morning. Not much chance to play with it but smooth so far. What is 'Swag Papers' supposed to do? Just hangs at Retreiving wallpapers from server.

Hi mate, I'm not familiar with "Swag Papers". Is it an app you've installed yourself? Maybe it's part of the latest CM10.1 source. I'll have to look tonight when I get home from work. I can't find it on my Nexus 10 running the same ROM.

I have no idea what it is, was an option under wallpapers with a unicorn symbol. I flash a lot of roms, maybe it's left over from something else. (I do a factory reset between rom's)

That's bizzare.
Under wallpapers, you should have:
Gallery
Live Wallpapers
No Wallpaper
SentinelROM Wallpapers
Wallpapers
Are you using Apps to SD? Maybe its something stored on your SD card?

I just had a look at my source and I can't find any reference anywhere to it. If it has a unicorn logo, maybe it's left over from an AOKP rom?

Why hasn't this ROM been getting much attention?
Theres 2 things that put me off here:
Not very well known
In the screenshot you have 74% battery, but yet it says 50 minutes remaining?
(It looks very nice though !! )

@OP what's the name of the clock widget?

Haha. I hadn't noticed that battery life thing to be honest. That would be because I was connected via DDMS and logcatting, plus I had the screen brightness maxed out for testing.
BTW it's had about 90 downloads. Just not many posters.

It's Zooper Widget.

We're up to about 300 downloads so far. How are you guys finding the ROM?

New hosting has been arranged. The ROM should download faster now

very interested by this rom... but what do you mean by cm10.1 isnt made for the nexus 7?

What I mean is that CM10.1 uses the same source for all devices rather than being specifically taylored for each device. Where-as with SentinelROM, I make changes to the source which are specifically done to maximize performance on each device I release it for.

New CM10.1 4.2.2 build on it's way very soon.

SentinelROM 4.00 for Nexus 7 is now available. See OP for details and please remember to update to the latest 4.2.2 GAPPS package. Link is in the OP.
Enjoy!

I've had over 200 downloads of v4.00, but hardly anyone is posting feedback here in the thread. (plenty via PM).
I guess no posts means no problems, but I'd still love to hear how are you all finding the ROM!

Yes, though its getting better and better. Since yesterday for example, the camera is VERY usable now!
Does bluetooth work properly in this build or does it still stop streaming with every little obstruction?

One noob question sorry. Turning the Force GPU rendering may affect the ram memory, or the battery drain?

Actually, turning this on lowers CPU usage because its the GPU that renders, so it might even be beneficial for the battery,,,

[ROM] [4.2.2] [ No-name CM10.1 nightlies ] [ Standard & Linaro ] [TF101 / TF101G]

No-name CM10.1 nightlies
Welcome to the No-name CM10.1 nightlies ROM.
Features:
- No fuzz, stable CM10.1-based ROM for the TF101.
- Timduru's wonderful KAT kernel built in
- Can play 720p MKVs over wifi using Dice Player (and similar) if OCed to 1.4GHz (see details on OCing below)
- Support for battery-dock indicator
- Up to date, nightly builds, with change-logs.
- Linaro builds available too.
- Works with PPP widget from the Play Store.
- Native support for USB and SD-card dock storage.
- TabletUI mod available.
- Experimental TF101G support.
We'll do our best to keep it working, stable and fix issues as reported, but whoever feels like contributing should feel free.
Pull requests welcome.
No-name parts with extra features can optionally be installed from market.
If you feel like donating, you can install Straitjacket which is my paid app with some extra features. Plus it might give you a warm fuzzy feeling for being a good guy.
Installation:
If coming from any non-4.2.x/CM10.1-based ROM, a factory reset is very much recommended.
(0. Backup your existing ROM)
1. Decide if you feel experimental. Linaro or normal build?
2. Download latest nightly to device.
3. Download special TF101 gapps linked below. (Choose only one)
4. Boot into recovery. Use TWRP, not CWM, as CWM doesn't support 4.2 ROMs properly.
5. Flash ROM. (This also wipes /system and any mods you already have.)
7. Flash special TF101 Gapps.
8. Optionally flash trackpad and/or tabletUI mod. (For tabletUI-mod: Do read below!)
9. Ensure you wipe /cache and dalvik-cache.
10. Reboot.
Basically, the normal procedure for any ROM.
Updating:
Updating from a previous build does not require a factory reset and will in no way delete any user-data or apps.
Be sure to flash ROM and to reflash gapps otherwise you will lose your current Google-account.
(0. Backup your existing ROM)
1. Download latest nightly to device.
2. Boot into recovery.
3. Flash ROM. (This also wipes /system and any mods you already have.)
4. Flash special TF101 Gapps.
5. Optionally flash trackpad and/or tabletUI mod.
6. Ensure you wipe /cache and dalvik-cache.
7. Reboot.

- Timduru, for KatKernel which keeps this thing stable and functional.
- Auto-patcher, for tabletUI mod.
- ShevT and a_sh_, for TF101G support.
Linaro?
So you are asking "What's Linaro anyway?". Good questions. To learn more, you can head to the Linaro. Since that is a big, big page with lots of technical stuff, I'll be nice and provide a brief explanation:
- Linaro makes an alternative toolchain which offers extra optimization-options not found in the "normal" Android build-chain. These optimizations should make the resulting build/ROM faster.
- But these optimizations are not entirely proven yet, and there is some debate about compatibility-related side-effects.
- These means that the resulting build may be less stable and/or less compatible with Android-software than builds produced using the normal build chain.
Is Linaro for you? It works for me. If you feel very conservative, it's probably best to avoid it.
If you still can't decide, you can check out this thread which dlumberg was nice enough to bring up.
TabletUI mod
In the ROM's download folder, for some releases you will find matching tabletUI mods availble for download.
Do note that these mods are created from the ROM itself and must be exactly matched.
That means that if your tabletUI mod is dated 20130428 and tagged "linaro", the only ROM that mod was created for was the 20130428 linaro build and no other build what so ever.
A mod made for the linaro build isn't supported when applied to the standard build and vica verse. A mod made for one date should never be used on a build created on any other date.
These mods are highly specific and needs to be treated that way. If you are mixing things and having any sorts of issues, there's nothing I can or will do about that. You have been warned.
On over-clocking
Don't use SetCPU or other third party tools. They are not needed, as the ROM has built in OC-controls. Using such tools may cause a conflict and in worst case possibly RRs and SODs.
To unlock the OC controls, go to System settings, About tablet, scroll down to build number, and tap that repeatedly until the system responds with "You are now a developer".
Exit and re-enter settings. You should now have a section called "Performance". Here you can enter a submenu called "CPU". Using this is the supported and recommended way to do over-cloking.

Other questions:
- "These are the same builds you posted in RaymanFX's thread, right?"
- Yes they are.
- "Bleeding edge... Does this include cherry-picks?"
- No. Only regular CM updates which has passed gerrit code review, just like the official nightlies. We're bleeding edge. Not extra bleeding edge.
- "What makes this different from RaymanFX's 0.8 Work In Progress ROM?"
- This ROM is based of his work, but he hasn't updated his sources in a long while. With the kernel being replaced by a non-Rayman kernel and him not really updating it anymore, I felt it would be wrong to keep posting it in his thread. As we keep making changes, I expect less and less of his original work will remain.
Thus I felt it was time to give. Not to mention, now people have easy to locate downloads and up to date instructions in the first post.

Good luck! I will try it.
If the download site is incredibly slow now, it's probably because a world of Galaxy Nexus users is hammering the same server for the Ubuntu Mobile previews.
Bad timing on my part, I guess
Will try...
No factory reset/wipe data needed? Even when coming from stock/arhd?
Is picasa sync working? On my NS I have to flash a modified camera.apk to get it?
Thanks
Clearly better to make a new clean thread, your rom deserves it =) Thanks for keeping it up to date !

From anything not CM10.1 I would recommend factory reset.

Josteink, good to see the new thread.
Did an upgrade from your 421.
It placed my files in a legacy folder, all seems to run fine.
422 definitely runs slower though.
Do you think that's a result of upgrading instead of a full wipe?
Also, what are you seeing in 422 that makes it a good update.
I really didn't see much change besides the phablet interface, which I'm not sure I like.
I'd really like to know your opinion.
Thanks.

I've had roughly the same performance in 4.2 as in 4.1. No major difference once the kinks and kernels got worked out. You can try a full wipe. I'd definitely recommend that, but I can't promise wild boosts in performance either.
The "phablet" interface takes some getting used to, but once you get there (at least once I got there), I've found myself to prefer it over the old one. The best way I can describe it is that after a while it feels more like a real Android-tablet now and less like a Windows-95 based tablet. YMMV.
Apart from that, things I like in 4.2.x which you didn't have in 4.1.x would definitely be the lock clock (CM10.1 cLock) and other lock-screen widgets. That, and abilty to add user-accounts, which sounds neat, but I don't need it.
Apart from that (on my phone), stock CM camera (which is useful on a phone) now also includes HDR mode, and they just keep on adding things on a daily basis.
I like that. CM10 is pretty much "done", and nothing new happens there, but CM10.1 has a lot of action these days.
You can feel it moving. You can feel you are on the bleeding edge
My 2 cents
work whit kat kernel ?
Re: [ROM] [4.2.2] No-name CM10.1 nightlies - Standard & Linaro
It comes with a forked KatKernel by default.
I see no reason flashing Tim's version shouldn't work, but I haven't tried yet. Will double check later this evening.

I don't know about Tim's version neither, but this combo does work on my system: no SOD in the last hour.
That's a first! Up to now the only kernels that work were Rayman's:good:
I'm missing EOS center though
Sorry about the slow server.
Official Ubuntu should be up now and I've removed my mirror, so hopefully we'll get some proper juice back again

I'm obviously biased
Really though. Team EOS4 is very polished ROM and Timduru is doing an excellent job with it. Respect all the way.
Me though, I like CM-based ROMs and thought it would be nice if there were at least one maintained CM10.1 build for the TF101.
I think it's pretty good and it's my daily driver

General Information:
This is my continuation of doing AOKP PUB Builds for the Nexus 7. PUB (Project Unicorn Butter) aimed to bring Linaro toolchain and other optimizations to the normal AOKP build. My goal is to simply continue these builds providing releases based off current code. Current builds are using the latest (2013.09) release of the 4.8.2 Toolchain. Builds using O3, strict-aliasing, and other optimizations where applicable.
The original thread for reference:
Stephen.k.spear Orig PUB Builds Thread
Releases:
The target will be weekly builds on the weekend with a build during the week only where needed for bug fixes to be merged or some major change we just can't wait for
There are two Release Types
TYPE 1 is your traditional ROM Flashable zip.
You must flash gapps after flashing this ROM as it can not be included in the ROM zip.
Current Gapps: gapps-jb-20130813
Slim Gapps(needed for full Dark UI functionality): Slim Gapps 4.3 DownloadsTYPE 2 is an Aroma Installer that includes the ROM, latest gapps, and many other options. See Post 2 below for further details.More than likely any middle of the week builds will not get rolled into the Aroma.
Kernel:
I am currently building the tegra3 grouper kernel from google source (stock). It is the kernel that will be installed if you just flash this as is. This is a perfectly fine daily driver, should be stable and safe across all devices.
If you are looking for better battery life, better performance during gaming, or even just more control over various settings at the kernel level then feel free to try one of the other great kernels offered for this device. I will not recommend one, I will recommend you try them all and see which works best for you.
Installation:
Download rom zip and gapps
Reboot to recovery
Wipe cache/dalvik (full wipe when needed)
Flash rom
Flash gapps
Reboot

Thanks! Also, since you have switched to the stock tegra Kernel, which kernel would give fastest performance? I liked the faux built inline with Steve's builds. I want pure performance without burning out my device. I play games and watch loss of videos. I guess I'm looking for a kernel that will clover maximum performance in games and videos, and will also deliver creamy UI transitions. Thanks.
BTW, in case you couldn't tell, I'm somewhat new at this. I know just enough to sound somewhat competent I guess. I have unlocked, rooted, and flashed both my n7 and n4 through fastboot. Never touched a root kit.

I'll add this type of answer to the OP as well when I have time to clean it up but here is the gist of it. I can't answer you.
Of the main kernels (regularly updated) you'll see for this device (faux, motley, metallice, franco, morfic), these are all established kernel dev's here. They spend countless hours on these kernel's and know them quite well. There is no way I could say to use one over another. Even if one is more geared toward stability and battery life vs gaming performance each may run differently on each device as the hardware is not exactly the same on every N7. Some can get away with -75mv while other's would have lock ups there. Some can overclock gpu, cpu higher than others and run perfectly smooth and others would see a random reboot. Even with the differences on a default flash of any of these dev's kernels, you then have a plethora of further settings you can tweak. There are voltages, clock speeds, governor, scheduler, and literally many many more.
Personally I'd read through each of those threads, at least the first few pages and the last 10 or so to see the current posts and tweaks the other users are making or their feedback. Try each of the kernels for a few days. You might get the feeling of a couple you like better or you think run a bit smoother for YOUR device with YOUR usage. At that point you can determine how much further down that kernel rabbit hole you want to go, ie. tweaking the intricate little settings that might help you vs the dev's stock settings. With all that being said, and all the variables at play in the kernel world, I can't imagine an answer I could give you that wouldn't be intrinsically incorrect. Hence, re-read the bold text above.

Welcome to SentinelROM for Samsung Galaxy SIII (International Version 4G -i9305 ONLY). Compiled with Linaro Toolchain from modded CM11 source. Android 4.4
This is one of the most popular ROMs for Nexus 10, Nexus 7, Nexus 4 and HTC One X, and after weeks of hard work and optimisation, I launched it for the SGS3 i9300 and it had 500 downloads in the first 2 days... so now I am happy to release it for Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G i9305.
This ROM is compiled from CyanogenMod 11 with all the features you get in a CM11 ROM, plus the following features.
Increased volume (not quiet like most CM based ROMs)
Zip Aligned
LMT Pie Controls - developed in collaboration with noname81.
Compiled from latest CyanogenMod 11 source by me, not a 'cooked ROM'.
OTA Updates supported
Improved Web Browsing performance
Improved 3D gaming performance
Amazing battery life
Additional theming and UI customisation
FAST support via this page and our Facebook Page
A free copy of my music player app
________________________
This ROM has been built to enhance the CyanogenMod 11 experience, with faster gaming and web browsing performance (no choppyness in Chrome too!) and best of all, extreme battery life.
Countless hours have been spent making tweaks to settings to squeeze the most performance I can find out of this ROM while still providing excellent battery life and without the dangers of overclocking and kernel level tweaking.
I compile this ROM and Kernel from the latest CyanogenMod source code, add my various tweaks and adjustments, then test for stability, so you get all the benefits of CyanogenMod 11, plus my tweaks and extras, all without the instability and inconvenience of flashing CyanogenMod nightlies (which are not designed specifically for the SGS3 like my ROM is.
The kernel source is available from the CyanogenMod's GitHub.

Enter custom recovery
Factory Reset and wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
Format System Partition
Install the ROM
Install GAPPS

4 days battery life on a HTC One X!
How to set up Pie Controls for the first time...
First to thanks!!!!
Looking forward to get back home and try it
Btw, are you aware of our speaker volume issues?
Thanks a Lot try it now!!!
I have read a little about it. Looking forward to some feedback on this ROM with regards to the speaker volume, and of course everything else.
People are getting some crazy good battery life on this ROM on other devices, so I cant wait to see how you guys go
BTW guys, we've got an awesome community going on Facebook. so make sure you check it out if you'd like to be involved in the latest beta tests and features, etc!
Thank you
Downloaded. Giving it a try now. Let you all know later. Thank you
I'm off to bed now (It's 11:10pm here in Sydney), but I'm looking forward to hearing your experiences tomorrow. Have a fun day!
Hey man, I gonna try it at the moment its downloaded
But i'm really curious if you made any changes to the kernel? Any tweaks or it's just standard CM kernel?
Hi mate,
As this is the first release, it's the standard CM kernel (compiled by me from source).
Once I have some feedback, I'll apply some more tweaks to the kernel for the next release.
I like to start with a proven foundation and work from there. This approach is working well for me so far with other devices
Would love to try this and always happy to see new Devs for this device but with all the limitations with the s series its hard to keep.
Camera is a big for me and all the cm10.1 roms have not been stable enough. Mostly saying it can't connect.

The camera was working fine during beta testing for this device. There's a few issues with the camera on i9300.

As of now I think the use of other kernels isn't important.
I believe usb debugging is located in developer settings. Just press the build number a bunch of times and developer settings should appear in settings

General Information:
This is my continuation of doing AOKP PUB Builds just adapted for the Nexus 7 Flo. PUB (Project Unicorn Butter) aimed to bring Linaro toolchain and other optimizations to the normal AOKP build. My goal is to simply continue these builds providing releases based off current code. Current builds are using the latest (2013.09) release of the 4.8 Toolchain. Builds using O3, strict-aliasing, and other optimizations where applicable.
Kernel:
I am currently building the flo kernel from aokp google/msm source (stock).
Flash rom
Flash gapps
Reboot

Optional Inverts:
You can get inverted applications in multiple ways. First I'd recommend going to System Settings and flipping the switch for Dark AOKP.
This will invert many of the core Gapps for you. For any other applications you may want inverted, there are two great threads that will make this trivial for you:
Midnight Gapps Project
Team BlackOut
Thanks:
- faux123 for his kernel included in this aroma.
- Tk-Glitch for his kernel included in this aroma.
- amarullz for aroma itself and the continued updates
- the great boot animations by thor6577, be sure to check his thread for more!
Thanks, downloading, will report back when flashed.
Update: Really stable so far, and smooth, gonna try the Aroma one later, thanks!
:good: Thanks, i'm waiting for Aroma Link, It still not up yet i think. :good:
Finally, and it's nice too see the kernel built from aosp which means no cm drama recently.
Unfortunately it also breaks the compatibility with custom kernels like latest cm nightlies did, blue screen on boot.

Still working on the aroma.
Loved this ROM on my Grouper. Pumped to see it come over to Flo!

This sounds great. going to have to try it. I will assume that the posted build has the broken user profiles as this has been broken in AOKP source(at least on flo but maybe other devices) since Sep 29th. I will wait until this issue is fixed in AOKP source before trying this rom as i need user profiles.
Psyched that you finally made it over here Mr. R! :good:
Can't wait to give this beast a go. Only thing left is for Morfic to bring his uberness to the kernel world for Flo/Deb.
It's been a while since I've seen you in the S3 section, nice to see you here as well. If we are already on another AOKP rom do you think we could dirty-flash this or is it different enough that we should do a full wipe?
the Aroma download link doesnt work.

I dirty flashed from stock and had a process.acore.whatever keep crashing. I cleared contacts storage data/cache and force stopped it and haven't seen it since. Should be fine but if you see weird issues don't post them here until you try a clean flash, that's all I ask.

I don't really play with user profiles so not sure exactly what is "broken". However clicking on users did give me the process.acore has stopped message and clearing contacts storage data and cache made that go away. I can create a user profile just fine in my quick little test.

Seems to be a fix in their gerrit or at least an attempt to address. I'll include it next time and try it out.

Any chance of seeing a "OneAromaToBindThem" for Flo, with all of the Aroma goodies but without the AOKP ROM itself? Loved having this toolbox for flashing various ROMs on my Grouper. (Yes, I know I could just download the full Aroma, but space is at a premium on my internal storage.)

ugh... so many things to maintain... And since I'll no longer include inverts there would really just be kernels and apps right?
I feel like its a waste to have the inverts as the thread I link to in the OP keeps them updated and honestly once TRDS got good I rarely even flash another inverted app now. Is there something else you used it for that I'm missing?
