TMO radio data sucks. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hello I've been trying to find a answer to my problem for a while, but can't seem to find any help. So to start off I unlocked my s2 I've flashed 3 different roms and a few different T-Mobile radios, but my data is very poor sometimes it works sometimes not it constantly drops if anyone can offer some advice I'd really appreciate it.
As of now my sgh-i727 is unlocked running on cm10 superlite and the telus radio.
Sry if this has been answered b4 I'm new to the dirrent radios

This thread will probably help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507825
It probably also depends on your location, too. In the Bay Area and LA, SlimBean w/ a Blaze (LB7) radio has worked just fine for me.

Thanks. I've read over that post a few times. I was using blaze lb7 for a bit but then I started to test others once the data drops and very poor speeds occurred. Also I live in MS I generally have great reception.

These are my speeds running the LB7 radio on T-mobile, this is running on Embryo 6.2.

I'm lucky to get a 1meg down and up when it actually holds the data signal. I'm actually on straight talk but with the ST tmo sim as my back up phone is the LG g2x. Maybe I didn't flash correctly, but I have tried flashing multiple times and no which radio or rom combo its the result slow speeds and constant drops. Another note my g2x fantastic in my area in ST

Well so far after flashing both radios then ROM after a full wipe of course I'm noticing a big difference. Speed test results were a lot better as well I'm gonna keep test driving it for a while and make sure it keeps going strong
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium

I seem to get better data speeds on stock-based ROMs. I'm running cm10.0.0 just because I prefer it over stock and I can deal with the slower speed.

One little update I have noticed that my data switches a lot between E/3g/H+ data still works but I have noticed its draining the battery rather quick. My g2x does not show these symptoms my signal stays strong in my house with it.

VRBLJ1 Modem/ RPM Question!!!

Hello I have a question about flashing the new radio/ rpm. Would it effect my ROM which is currently Eclipse? Basically would it be okay to go from HE to the J1? Thanks!

I appreciate the quick reply Thanks
Also has anyone used the radio/ rpm? If so has there been any notice in better reception/ battery power? Thanks guys!!!
Likely half of the community has used it. Everyone's phone experience is different relative to their environment and where they live.

For me it was a great improvement in stability of my 3g connection. I'm in Eclipse as well.

Everyone definitely seems to be getting different results. Both the I5 and J1 radios put me into roaming. I would have to reboot to convince the phone I was not roaming, then an hour later I was roaming again.
I am back to HE for now.

Use whatever modem works best for your area and tower situation. I have full time 4G so they all work. Affects 3G to a greater extent. Almost all 4G towers are new.

[Q] 4G LTE issues with CleanRom 5.0

Hi all,
i have some questions about CleanRom 5.0 however i don't have the authority to post in it's forum, so i'm hoping someone can help me out here.
overall the rom is incredible, my only issue is the speed of my 4g lte network. it is much slower than what i am used to.
using speed test i consistently get about 12mbps down and 8mbps up, however if i go back to my stock nandroid backup so my phone is like it was before i went to cleanrom i used to consistently get about 23mbps down and 16mbps up. is this normal for cleanrom and if not is there a way to fix it because now the speed is about half of what it used to be.
i should probably also mention that i flashed the new radio and rpm that scrosler provided links to in the second post of the cleanrom forum
I've seen it stated many times that roms won't affect connection. Likely it is the new radio you flashed. You can always try flashing the old radio and rpm. Someone with s little more experience may have more insight.

Gotta agree with this. Roms do not change/impact your signal.
OP, flash another set of modem/rpm or even return to what you used before. Personally, my data speeds were below what I'm used to when using the latest modem/rom. My experience is nothing more than anecdotal and a single trial. I switched back to a prior modem/rpm combo and have enjoyed my normal speeds/LTE access.

@Snappyts
@SlimSnoopOS
Thank you both very much for the responses. I will try flashing the old modem and rpm to see if that solves the issue.

[Q] Will a different radio fix this?

Hi everyone, I'm running CM10.0.0 Skyrocket with UCLD2 modem. I live in Jupiter, FL and when I am traveling through town and pass through areas that switch between HSPA, 3G, and 4G, I often have to toggle airplane mode to get data back. Is this due to my radio? I was doing research in the forum about the various radios and I couldn't find a definitive comparison of the various modems to each other with a chronology of release. I'd guess that newer modems are better, but then I read that sometimes that's not the case. Anyone care to weigh in on why I lose data connection when traveling through different data zones? btw i checked my APN settings and theyre fine.
I too run into the same issue but when I'm at work I know that if you running jb data loss has been known to be an issue with it yes the newer the modem can potentially fix or issue depending on situation best option is test

Sounds like a handoff issue. Try CI3

Thank you for the suggestion, I flashed it last night and so far so good.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Just an update, things still seem good with CI3 compared to my old radio. Only thing I notice is it doesn't really like 4G data, it'll say 4G and have good bars, and I can make and receive calls fine. But if I go online it'll stall, and I'll watch it struggle and then swap to H+ and be fine. That’s the only remaining quirk. Not sure why it's doing that.

I know no one is following this post at this point but I thought I'd post a final update about how i resolved the last issue I mentioned in the post above, just in case someone else has this same issue and searches the forum later.
I fixed my reception with 4G accidentally, i flashed the Lightning Zap v3 kernel to improve battery and lo and behold, reception hand off is fixed!!

Cm10 data problems

I am running the latest nightly and also have the newest modem (k3) and rpm installed. I have used other modems as well. I live in fernandina beach, fl signal is great lte speeds no signal drops. I go to Kingsland, ga a lot for work and I am always dropping signal I don't have this problem on stock. Is there something I can do to fix this?

Yes - flash back to stock, or run a TW rom. My experience with CM10 (when I ran it on OG Epic) was 1) great features 2) not-so-great bugs. I've learned my lesson, will just root/unlock and debloat, maybe TW rom but that's it.
Thanks I will give some different tw roms a try... May be why the sound thru blue tooth is muffled also

Just to give an update I switched to a tw ROM and signal and data improved in Ga I guess there is a glitch with cm10 that effect data....that sucks I really like cm10

baseband help

is there a way to reset the baseband? i wanted to try the "Jedi Mind trick SGSIII Style V2 rom" and flashed the baseband modem update that was in that thread. tried the rom a bit, then restored my previous rom that i was using prior before the jedi mind trick rom. and went to about phone in settings and saw that my "baseband version" was unknown. and i been receiving texts late. is there a way to fix this?

You can find the blaze baseband here, I'm using the newest T989 and signal seems better.
If you lose signal after flashing the radio you want a reboot usually helps or you may have to get the correct APN.

Did you flash T989 modem on your Blaze 4G? And if you did, any issues? I checked the post and it also listed modem for the Blaze 4G which is UVMB1.

Yea signal is definitely better for me on the 989 radio. I never had any service inside my office but now I seem to have one bar today. I'll update tomorrow and see if it was just a fluke.

Can flash in either, no need to wipe anything just flash/reboot if no signal reboot again should be good after. I'm trying out the 989D telus modem now.

Ok decided I would update on my previous post... Today I could make a call where previously I couldn't (under the canopy at the warehouse), and I noticed I could make a call quicker after I lost/regained service than the previous modem. HUGE help for me. Funny thing though, my co-worker with a 989 still has to put hers on the window seal lol.

hows that 989d telus modem running for you? I am guessing that the reason the other modem software is working is cause the hardware is similar or same between some of these phones right? is there a way to find out what chip sets are on these phones to get an Idea of what other firmware works on some of these phones? the T989UVMC6 seems to help my charge time a little and dose seem a little faster on download speeds but still nervous about causing any long term problems but there is no signs of overheating or running flaky so I guess it should be fine.
thanks
I have done some preliminary testing with the UVMB1 and UVMC6 radios and have some very definitive results. There's a speedtest.net server where I live so there shouldn't be too much variance here. I have done some other testing with the other radio (the t989d) with mixed results. The t989d radio is very inconsistent where I live.
The UVMB1 is the first three results, and the UVMC6 is the next three. Pretty conclusive to me. I will be on the UVMC6 from here on
I'm also using the UVMC6 and it does seem to give me a stronger signal. I should probably run a test and get some "official" results.

been running all day with UVMC6 almost 14 hours and still 64% battery and I used my phone a lot today listening to Pandora radio for almost an hour and 4 or 5 phone calls and played on the web a little. I think I am safe to say it improved battery but I rarely loose much signal in KCMO so I cant say that signal is better but I may have seen more H+ than I normally see. my home has steel siding so I dont see as much H+ when inside but it seems to have been H+ most of the time I checked today.
and again thanks for sharing with the rest of us on this information, it has improved the quality of my phone so many thanks
Welcome, I found it when had my skyrocket and figured I'd try it out. It does seem to make signal stronger and battery. The 989D was ok just didn't hold signal to long
