JB couple of questions before updating - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got the message for the OTA update (I'm currently running 4.0.4 on a N8000 from Vivo Brazil).
Reading a few posts here I got a little afraid from this update. Can someone comment the following questions:
1) I'm rooted but still got the OTA update warning. Do I need to unroot prior to update? Will it stay rooted?
2) I can only get mass storage using SGS3 Easy UMS. Does it work on JB?
3) I use a bluetooth keyboard and can only connect directly (without going to settings) using Bluetooth Keyaboard Easy connect. Anyone noticed different behaviors on BT keyboard after the JB update?
4) How it battery life and performance on JB compared to ICS?
5) Anyone noticed any major downgrades wiht this update?
6) What are the major benefits?
Probably some of my questions have already been answered but I second son was born a couple of days ago and free time to read the threads has been a rare gift

1.if you update you will lost your root except if you flash using mobile odin pro and checked the everroot option
2.Sgs3 easy ums work for me in JB
4.Battery life is almost similar for both..but the performance in JB is slightly better than ICS
5.No
6.More apps was added for multiwindow

Great Aken. Thanks a lot. In question 1, if I use Odin do I still get OTA updates? Also, if I use the normal OTA update can I regain root afterwards?

If you use odin you still can get OTA...if you use normal OTA you still can root using cf-autoroot and reset binary counter using triangl away app by chainfire

#3 I have noticed a difference and found your questions while looking for an answer. I have tried two different bluetooth keyboards on my N8013 after JB update with both the "." (period) does not work however when using the ">" (right facing arrow/greater than) with the shift key used. This was not a problem in ICS.
When this first happened I assumed the first inexpensive keyboard had broke when a second different one straight from the box had the same problem it makes me wonder and look for others with the same problem.

Green, maybe it is only a layout problem... try to use "External keyboard Helper Pro". With this small app you can connect your BT keyboard with any layout and even link certain keys to specific symbols.

Thank you very much. That did just what I needed it to. I was completely unaware there was an app like this. I tried the demo and it took care of the problem so now have purchased the app. I appreciate this more than you know.

One Click Root and No Wifi

I did the one click root but never found the super user icon. My wifi no longer works. I get wifi error. I noticed that it went from 3.01 to 3.0. Is this not compatable with my wifi xoom only? I have rooted g tablets with no problems but this is not working out for me. Help?
run the one click again. Samething happened to me, make sure when you are runnkng the one click you don't do anything but click "OK" when prompted. Mouse clicks and keyboard strokes can cause errors in the commands
If you don't see the superuser app you aren't rooted. Run again and follow instructions to the T.
I got it working like a Swiss made watch. It was also semi-bricked. Everything seems to work. I may over-clock it but I'm not to sure about the extra heat that would be crated by that. I'm going to look at using a external sd card next.

Rogers Gingerbread 2.3.3 Bug Report Thread

My fellow Canadians...
I have noticed a number of issues with the latest official firmware for the Rogers captivate. I think it would be a good idea to put them all in one place and try to start figuring out what common issues exist and perhaps we can address them all at once. Please state the issue, when it seems to happen, and what if any modifications you have made to your software setup. Maybe someone will notice a pattern or trend and we can get them resolved.
Thanks!

One major issue I have noticed is when updating apps through the 3.1.5 market. It seems to only happen when I am updating an app, not when I am installing a new app:
Sorry!
The application TwLauncher(process com.sec.android.app.twlauncher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
At which point I have to force close it.
Also, I have experienced random shut downs, I will click the power/screen lock button to unlock the phone, and it seems the phone has shut itself off. If you hold down the power button it boots normally.
Anyone else experiencing these issues?

Did you try a factory reset after you updated?
Voice for Swype
The voice command for Swype doesn't work.......
1. Speed dial no longer works. Says 'USSD code running' then closes and gives message 'unknown application'
2. GPS has stopped working completely.
As far as the launcher crashes, I don't use touchwiz. I do use Launcher Pro. It does seem to crash every so often. I've replaced all my widgets because I've read somewhere that this might help.
No random shutdowns here.
I talked to a samsung technical support rep and his captivate's swype voice input didn't work either.

GPS works perfectly on mine captivate 2.3.3 and I get better reception and locking time. But GPS will stop working if you flashed a custom Kernel on it! I know that because I tried it and GPS wasn't working when I had a custom Kernel, had to flash back the stock kernel.
Edit: I just tried Speed dial and it's working perfectly, I think there is something wrong on your phone.

I also don't have any issues with the GPS or Speed Dial. My only mod was rooting with the FUGU kernel.

I hadn't thought of that; I wonder if I'll lose my root? Come to think of it, I wonder if that's causing the launcher crashes...

Got the phone from Rogers with 2.1 then upgraded to 2.2 then to 2.3.3 (all done through Kies. GPS was ok but spotty on 2.1 and much better with Froyo but hoped Gingerbread would bring more improvement.
I've tested it since Rogers released 2.3.3 and on a few occasions I've even gone to the roof of my building on a clear day and waited for 45mins!! and nothing! Not lock then lose it but NOTHING! Speed dial I can live without but I actually use the GPS quite a bit.
Since upgrading I've done a factory reset 4 times and even sent it in for repair, which came back saying "upgraded SW and factory reset" which fixed nothing.
I've just rooted (just root nothing else) and I've tried to do use the gps code but I can't even get into that!!
What can I do at this point?

Yeah, with the 2.3.3 you can't access the gps setting by entering the code, because everything you enter the code *#*#3214789650#*#*, you'll get a message saying "Service mode has crashes blablaba...". The only that I found to bypass that was to go to market and install the app "Anycut" then launch it, select New Shortcut, Activity then choose Angry gps.
I'll look up what's the problem that causing you not to get a good gps signal.

Man I was going nuts trying that gps code. Googled and searched this forum and everything pointed to that code. Was ready to toss my phone off the roof!
Was reading these forums for the past couple weeks learning how to root/flash (just rooted today actually) to get gps working.
I'm guessing I might have to try flashing it again with the stock rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979133 but gotta do some more reading before attempting it.

I use an app called GPS Status from the market. There, in the menu under 'tools', you can 'manage A-GPS state and wipe the location info the GPS has back to scratch. Then download the assistance data from the internet. This worked well for me and I do it from time to time to keep things current.

How long have you had the phone? The random shut downs is not a ROM issue. I am pretty sure it is a hardware problem. It was acknowledged by Samsung. There is even a list of effected builds. I am sure you could find the build numbers with a little search. I had this problem when I first got the phone last December but had Rogers replace it. If it is the same problem, I think you will notice that the sleep of death only occurs when the battery is like above 85% or somthing like that. It has been a while so I can't exactly remember.
I can't seem to get the firmware actually downloaded. I'm going through kies and it recognizes my phone, and recognizes that I need to upgrade, starts downloading the upgrade and at 12% it disconnects. I have two screen shots here that show what I am talking about.
Any ideas?

Tried this the entire day and still nothing. I know it's kinda cloudy out today but still nothing.
i found 2.3.3 very slow, and poorly built. no voice button in swype PEEVED me off.i was originally making my custom canadian rom off Kh2 (rogers 2.3.3) but i dropped that project and released a canadianized/rogersized KJ3 (2.3.5).
one of the best roms in the dev section. and will be updated by the end of the week with the theming all included. the pic in my sig is a link to the rom if you havent seen EFFIN EH!
Unable to update my Captivate
My captivate is still 2.2 and while connecting to Kies it says this version of the device cannot be updated.
Current version shows PDA: JL1/phone: JL1/CSC: JL1 (xxx).
I had rooted via Super one click and I can see Superuser installed. I havent used it for any purpose.
I removed my external SD card and did factory reset. No luck.

[Q] XT720 stock from WIND + Wifi/3G issues

Ok noob alert..just a prelude I've done alot of searching and reading, and *think I have some answers, but if some kind soul were to take a quick look and maybe verify what I've found, I'd be eternally grateful. I used to have a LG Optimus and easily rooted/upgraded to CM7 by reading this forum and didn't have to ask any questions.
Now I've gone and signed up for WIND (Canada) and picked up an XT720. It's my budget and I'm not overly concerned about whether or not I have ICS immediately. I'd rather have something stable and $$ saving.
OK so I'm noticing a serious difference in the way the XT720 handles the WIFI/mobile data situation compared to the LG: it doesn't. First off, there's no easy way to turn off mobile data. Secondly, enabling WIFI gets me a connection to my router, yes, but browsers and apps that require a connection just refuse to use the WIFI unless: 1. there is 3G data connection - in other words, it ain't using WIFI 2. I put the phone in Airplane Mode, and turn WIFI back on. Great, but now no phone calls or SMS. Not a viable workaround. Option 3 involves hard resetting the phone with a battery pull which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
From scouring around various sites, this seems to have been a common problem with 2.1 and this model of phone. And thus the workarounds I tried were also employed by others.
From what I know of all versions custom ROMs etc from 2.2 onward for other models of phones, though, this wasn't an issue, and also in 2.2 and onward you can switch off Mobile Data which will force the WIFI connection if turned on.
So is this something that I will see an improvement on if I install say CM 6.3 onward or whatever? I'll get the ability to turn off mobile data, right? And then there theoretically shouldn't be a conflict, right?
That's my biggest issue. I don't get enough 3G signal in my house to just use the mobile data connection, I absolutely have to be able to use WIFI and receive phone calls/texts at the same time, so if custom roms aren't going to help me, I'd best return the phone.
Some other things I'm curious about:
- do most of the normal functions of the phone work with CM 6.3? HD recording, camera, HDMI out etc? Anything I've missed?
- I see quite a bit of talk about people running out of RAM and using sd swapping etc is this a common problem? Even with about 20 or so apps and CM7 on my LG Optimus I was still able to maintain about 110 mb RAM free at all times by judicious use of installing apps on SD card...will I be ok?
- Probably the biggest question before I root/install...most of the guides I'm reading talk about installing various stock sbfs etc etc...I'm coming in from a WIND stock rom so I don't *THINK* I need to do this, right? I should be nandroid'ing, Open Recovery, flash custom rom....right?
Here's my specs
Xt720 Wind Canada
s/w STR_U2_05.1F.2
f/w 2.1-update1
f/w config GAS_NA_NAWIND_P012
Baseband 3GSMEPU91A_U_91.075EI
kernel 2.6.29-omap1
I realize that some of this is covered in other threads. To be honest tho some respondents/contributors aren't English first language and I just want to make sure I haven't misunderstood anything. Anyone who has done similar to what I'm trying to do, especially coming from a WIND perspective, lemme know your thoughts, please and thanks alot!

I've picked up the XT720 myself from Wind a few days ago at the clearance price ($150 outright, no plan). They even told me there are no guarantees with the phone with its stock ROM and seemed glad to hear that I was gonna use it with a custom ROM. I knew what I was getting into and the only reason I still bought the phone is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300246
We are extremely lucky to get Gingearbread on our phones, so don't even think of ICS at this moment. As you noticed already the stock 2.1 is useless and I flashed mine the 1st day.

The ROM I linked above (the only 2.3, actually CM 7.1 available for XT720) works as you'd expect with wifi and 3g, that is it uses wifi when connected to both. Any decent ROM will do that.

HD recording - not yet (you don't lose much anyway, the camcorder quality would be crappy, check reviews with the stock OS)
camera - yes (pretty good quality)
HDMI - not yet (I'm guessing it will be fixed very soon, the devs are working on exactly this)
everything else - yes

This one is tricky, the phone only has about 225mb usable RAM, there's not much multi-tasking you can do with that amount but it's workable. There are some performance tweaks you can do (overclocking, CM settings, V6 SuperCharger, etc.) to make it decent. Moving apps on sd card is a good idea in order to save storage space on the phone (another limited resource at only 174mb) but has nothing to do with RAM.

I've been wondering the same thing, what's up with all the SBFs people are talking about left and right? The answer is don't worry about them, you don't need any SBF. They are just that, stock ROMs, all 2.1. You would only need one (the Wind version) if you wanted to take the phone back for servicing and wanted to return to the original non-rooted state. Apparently even if you take a full nandroid backup with your stock ROM now and restore it later, the phone will still be rooted and this is where a stock SBF would help. I'm not gonna bother, even if I do take it back (highly doubt it, with the custom ROM it's a very good phone for $150 outright), I'm just gonna restore my stock nandroid backup.
So what you need is:
1. root the phone (personally I used SuperOneClick, google for the latest version)
2. install OpenRecovery: http://modmymobile.com/forums/563-m.../531599-open-recovery-v1-46-11-21-2010-a.html
I can send you the file you need if you pm your email address. I HATE it when I have to register on some forum just to get 1 stupid file. And you absolutely CANNOT get that stupid file anywhere else on the face of the Earth/internet.
3. install this mod for OpenRecovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242259
4. go to the ROM's thread, dl the latest build linked in the 1st post, copy the zip file to your sdcard\openrecovery\updates, reboot into recovery mode, apply update, format data&cache, reboot. Done. Enjoy!

There's an OpenRecovery apk floating around here to install ther OR bootstrap, no need to register at ModMyMobile.
:Edit:
Woodrube has it attached to this thread. Install the apk from the sdcard, reboot, then run the apk & install OR. (Now you can switch out the OR files with Mioze's modded OR)
here you go
I knew that thread would come in handy one of these days. Plus Buddy and Acro there are other handy APKs in there too.
Mioze actually have all the necessary Open Recovery files linked in his CM6.3 topic
that's the most updated version
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to James and everyone who has responded so far - even going so far as to direct link me to files I'll need? You guys are the best!!.
I really appreciate the encouragement. I think tonight's the night.
I'll try and log my procedures and steps and make note of anything I run into for future noobs like me I might be able to help..that's how community works, right?
Wish me luck!
Good luck
One more tip: If you find that Market keeps crashing after you flash fjfalcon's ROM, flash this updated Google Apps package - gapps-gb-20111216 (dl link here).
It worked for me. Put the zip file on the sdcard right next to the ROM file and flash it just like the ROM file.
PS: Who's James?
Ah BuddyBud sorry, there is another Canadian Wind guy named Biker Bob (real name James) who was posting about his experiences in another thread, and I mixed the two of you up..
About to try this...couple questions
Has anyone watched/used Reverend's tutorial video? Results?
I don't need to unlock the phone first, right? Please tell me no, I just got it! lol
The Revs videos are a good reference & if you are talking about a sim unlock that's not necessary.
Yes Revs videos are good to show.a visual of what you should do. Don't worry about it. I know it is scary the first time but once you do it, it will become second nature. Don't forget to wipe cache, dalvik and factory reset. If you bootloop, that is probably why.
No you don't need to be unlocked. That just deals with carriers and not ROMs.
Im on the edge of the decision precipice..am not too nervous about doing this, as in fact I'm pretty technically proficient..it just seemed that this process was a bit more convoluted than the one I picked up on easily for the LG.
Decisions decisions...6.3 or go all the way to 7.1
I think I need stability...and I'm not sure I want to get into a whole bunch of swapping locations etc. I noticed The Reverend mentioned he didn't bother with swaps. Mind you, I don't even think he made an ext partition either, which boggles my mind, I was almost sure you had to make at least one for any custom ROM. I might be showing just how little I know here! lol
Is it just that 7.1 is more of an ongoing thing, or by now are most of the +/- s of both pretty much on par? I know, I should be reading all 78 pages of the damn thread, right??
Oh boy, I just read through the Bravo thread...and the LED notification sounds SOOO tempting. No LED notification bugged the hell outta me on the LG. Hmmmm...
Ok...have settled on the ROM in this thread (Bravo):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332410
I just want to make sure of one thing...the VERY helpful steps that you all have outlined ie BuddyBuds...they stay the same up to step 4 (ROM + update) no matter what ROM I choose, pretty much.
Brians instructions are just a slight bit confusing in that Im not sure if I have to apply just the most recent update for LED ie v1.6...or if I have to install ALL the updates from the start on up (I think there are 4 of them). To me it would seem logical that each new version would be cumulative ie include the stuff from previous versions...but I just want to make sure!
One more thing..I didnt notice any mention of gapps in the download in that thread (nor did I see a gapps apk in the files I unzipped, but might have missed it..)...if not, Ill need to apply that too, right..any special version to useÉ
Ok so...
I went with Brian's BRAVO. I followed some of the steps provided in this thread, coupled with Reverand's video. I used his OpenRecovery install method (ie original from the Dexter build, copy new over top that) because I've never installed OpenRecovery before and it just seemed confusing on other threads.
To root, I used UltimateAndroot, in order to have the ability to unroot the machine (you'll see why...)
The first thing I checked, of course, was the pull down power/status bar to see about turning off various connections (ie Wifi, Bluetooth, Refresh, Mobile Data, etc). Unlike other 2.2 Froyo's I've used, specifically..LG..there is no pull down/status bar. Damn. Went thru every Setting imaginable, but won't work. This isn't looking great.
Next thing I tested was my 3G/Wifi issue. To my dismay...the issue remains. Browser and apps are still trying to use 3G first and foremost, as far as I can see. How do I know? Because if I leave Data Network Settting to "Allowed", browser/apps work, and *seem to be using the WiFi, but the second the 3G signal fades or is dropped, I get connection issues, and WiFi is still on. If I turn Data Network Setting to "Not Allowed", it might/might not use the WiFi for a bit and then pretty consistently stop. When I mean "stop", I mean the phone is still showing connected to WiFi yet there are data connection errors on all browsers/apps that need data etc. Sometimes, if the 3G signal returns, I get the pop-up asking me to Allow the data, and if I say yes it works for a bit (but then, because of the 3G signal issue, it cuts out again).
The fix - again - turn on Airplane mode, which disconnects all connections, turn on WiFi, then go back into Call Settings and search for the Home Network again. This is crazy, I can't do this every time, and eventually it craps out again and I have to do it all over.
The other really frustrating thing is I powered it down to do a full recharge overnight...when I booted back up it didn't find my Home Network at all and I had to rescan for it. Testing that out, sure enough, rebooting the phone I have to reselect the Network. Argh.
Any thoughts? The whole necessity of being able to turn 3G data off is so I can avoid this very problem. Basically, I walk in my front door, turn off data over the mobile network, and let my WiFi do it all while I'm home. I wish I could do this as effectively as with my LG on 2.2 (and later, CM7)

Once you get to step 4 inn Buddy's list check out this. It will explain it a little bit better. Brought someone back from the brink on this thread. Where is says Dexter, just replace that with Bravo.

Gapps is for CM builds. Bravo is a 2.2 build.
Side note: If you are going to partition it is up to you. I and a few other don't but it is really a personal preference. When I did, I used MiniTool Partition Wizard and it worked like a charm.
A few things though:
1: Your partitions must be set up this way---> Fat then EXT2/3 then Swap (if you choose-I don't and never did-requires you to fastboot a custom kernel and since this is your first experience, I would not suggest it)
2: Sizes. Many noobs will set their EXT2/3 partition to 1gb. That is way too big and you are just wasting space. I find that somewhere between 350-400mb is more than enough.
3: Do not convert your Ext partition to EXT4 unless the ROM you choose supports it. If/when the time comes, use MZ's open recovery utility to do it and not GPArted or MiniTool. The creat a Hugefile that has to be deleted and is a PITA.
4: If you do decide to partition, you will have to boot up fully, then go into your root explorer and in the SD-ext, you will need to create a folder called App (not apps-no S) so it will look like this sdcard/sdext/app. Then reboot and your apps will auto-install there.
Sorry for the long post and good luck.

Once you click on WIFI it should take over as your primary source of data. Not sure why unless I think I might have figured it out. Go into settings>wireless>tick your WIFI and once your router pops up leave it alone and hit your menu button. Set your WIFI sleep policy to NEVER and I bet that takes care of it. Pretty sure that is toggling off your WIFI when 3g is present.
Other solution is Widgetsoid and Elixir both have a widget to toggle off data (so does Beautiful widgets too for that matter). You can use those but I really think the above solution should work for you.

Ah, figured..however when I go into LED Notification, it says "revision 1.6" (or some wording to that effect) at the bottom. Maybe that's just an error, but I just used that to gauge whether or not I had installed the latest revisions etc.
LED Notification works for text messages. I haven't seen it work for calls yet, but maybe I'm doing something wrong. I call the phone, the screen lights up that there's a call, and then ultimately closes when noone answers it. It was at this point that I'd assume the LED notification would come on. Screen is out, so LED, right?

Ok I guess I goofed then, because I tried to update with Gapps after I installed Bravo. One thing I noticed is that I wasn't prompted to sign up/into my Google accounts or set up the phone when I rebooted following the Bravo ROM + Gapps install..that had always happened on my LG when I did CM installs...your explanation makes sense!
But...isn't CM6 basically 2.2 and Bravo basically 2.2? Or maybe I misread that.
At any rate, the real reason I updated Gapps is because I wanted the "new" Market look. I don't like the old one very much, really like the My Apps function. Is there way I can just patch this in to Bravo?

Why do people partition? I did it on my LG, but never used it. Partitioning has nothing to do with installing user apps to the SD card, right? I can do that anyways, true?
Speaking of which..in CM there is the ability to set the default install location. I searched to find something similar in Bravo, to no avail. Is there a way to do this?
Wait...I think you just gave me the answer to both these questions...duh me..

I guess I do in fact want to partition, then. I can't imagine how one wouldn't want to, I mean you don't want apps clogging up internal memory, right?

DOHHHHH!!!! I knew I had forgotten something about past settings that made my LG work so well.. I have modified the Wi-Fi sleep policy and hopefully it will work better now! One constant in all the issues I was having, now that you've mentioned this, is that the screen was sleeping/timing out while things were going on. I'd bring it back up, and be all "like, wtf" when my browser wouldn't work or apps that were downloading hung, etc. Mind you, it probably should have reconnected by itself, but whatever, if it doesn't, there's no harm in using Never Sleep for WiFi. I'm not that much of a stickler for battery usage. I go to bed, I charge the phone, I wake up, repeat. I don't need 4 days battery life and if I ever am in a situation where I do, I'm camping or somewhere remote ie no WiFi hence this doesn't apply as I'd just toggle WiFi off completely anyways.
You're right, I could use a Widget to manage my connections and I managed to grab Beautiful when it was 10 cents..but those reside on the screen and I would love to get that pull-down bar back, just so handy to drag down no matter what app/screen you're in...I know, I'm picky
You know what? I got a Notification Toggle app on my PC at home that I'll upload here tonight. I just remembered it while I was at lunch. It is from an older ROM so not sure it will work but worth a try. Usual directions. Push it to /system/apps reboot. It should be just what you are looking for if it works. Might not though so you'll just have to see.
CM6 is 2.2 and so is Bravo only Bravo was made from the official Korean update that was handed down and Mioze has created the CM6 from source. So yes they are both 2.2 but very different.
Edit: I have the latest Market.apk too. It is floating around here somewhere but I can't find in for some reason. I'll upload them tonight.

try them both first, then see which one you want to use as your daily driver.
i personally like the 6.3 better because it runs the fastest even on stock speed 720 Mhz
you can use Open Recovery to do a full backup, and switch back and forth between 7.1 and 6.3 until you decide which one you like best
7.1 has more themes to choose from and is more up to date, but... less free resources vs. 6.3 which is indirectly related to why it feels less quick than 6.3
7.1 feels similar to the speed you get on the stock ROM from Wind, 6.3 feels like a brand new device

[MOD by APP] Nebtop - Universal HDMI Webtop hack

This MOD by APP is different than the existing MOD by replacing system apks:
1. No risk of brick
2. Ease of use
3. Universal hack for phones and ROMs that has Webtop
Since this app is intended to support multiple devices, see the original post from the Razr thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404625 .
Please report the test result in this thread. Whether success or fail and your device, ROM, etc.
It'd be nice to use the "Send" option in the app if it failed.
Thanks!
Nice find! I hope this does work.

great work.although my Atrix2 is soft brick,.
Hope there will be firmware upgrade soon so that you can recover from it.
This is also why I tried to do this for my own use in the first place. I'm afraid of soft bricking the Razr too.

I think fantasy_gu is saying that he would love to try this but his phone is already softbricked from a previous issue
Got myself an HDMI cable today finally
I installed the mod on my Stock-rooted Atrix 2 and I can confirm it is working
The only thing I missed was the by the Webtop-help advertised "Entertainment Center" (This would probably be the more useful feature for me personally )

i get a screen pop up but doesn't say webtop. Just says view calendar agenda or dismiss option. Not sure what to do. I want the same thing i can do to TV on my laptop.

As a person who has used this!!!
Just a word of warning:
This app totally screwed up my phone. I installed it and was using it just fine for a couple of hours. Then all of a sudden, the phone becomes unresponsive. I unplugged the HDMI cable, and it rebooted. I didn't think anything of this. Just found it a little odd. Since then, any time I reboot the phone, it is reverted to the same state it was in right before the crash. The text message I had not yet read is re-received as new. All app updates are reverted. All new apps aren't installed. All new texts (since then) are gone. Apps are force-closing left and right. Be VERY careful with this app. I'm not sure it's really ready for prime-time, even now.
I know that you've experienced this a few days ago from my routine Googling but didn't know you haven't find a way back yet.
As from your original post, you were using Webtop at that moment and all in a sudden with the HDMI cable unplugged, then the phone rebooted.
At least a panic log is needed to verify whether this is related to Nebtop, or the stock ROM+Webtop.
As Nebtop has no listening of the HDMI cable plugging/unplugging event, it should had done nothing at that moment.
And your current state sounds like the file system is corrupted. If I have no way to fix this, I would try to backup the current state first, then try to revert to the stock. (not sure if Atrix 2 has any stock image leaked )
Finally, I'd like to help to identify the actual cause of the reboot, only if you could look up the kernel panic log at this location /data/dontpanic/apanic_console (this is the path for one of the Motorola phone, it could be changed for Atrix 2).

I already have the webtop mod posted by Fenny, what is the difference with this one? Does this one work through a runtime + mirror? It allows on screen touch and keyboad?
The feature of Nebtop is pretending the HD Dock.
The requirement to use Nebtop is a rooted phone.
The disadvantage of Nebtop is none so far, therefore the advantages are no persistence change, no intrusive modification to anything, no risk of brick.
Yes, like using the HD Dock, the on screen touch and keyboard is working by using Nebtop.

Can I install nebtop over my existing hack by fenny? I have no onscreen touchscreen or mouse control with the fenny hack. Also I can't seem to find the xorg.conf file anywhere, I'm on the supercharged v5 rom. Based on 2.3.6
I haven't tried personally.
Nebtop could only make it work if it would work for a real HD Dock.

well i installed nebtop on v5 supercharged rom and its working fine, replying now from nebtop using the on screen keyboard and mouse. only thing i notice is i cant use the mobile apps from nebtop, probably because the keyboard is using the screen. atrix 2
I'm not sure what do you mean by "cant use the mobile apps from nebtop".
Do you mean from Webtop? Have you watched the video I've made? Maybe I can imagine better if you would tell the difference(not can vs can't but some concrete examples....like when clicking on the "Phone Manager", there is no response....or the "Phone Manager" window is blank...etc) you see.

Phone manager was blank in webtop. I could see the tabs such as text messaging and adw launcher but no display. This was happening both when launching via nebtop and also via fenny hack. I did a phone restart and the problem went away so everything works perfect now.
The only other thing I noticed is the phone seemed to get extra hot, though the phone seems to run a bit on the hot side anyway so its probably normal.
One difference that I notice between fenny and nebtop is nebtop says connected to HD display and fenny hack says connected to HDMI cable. This is probably why the trackpad and mouse work in nebtop and not with the fenny hack.
Yeah, this and nebtop don't work for me. Nothing pops up so I can view my phone on my HP laptop. I did the adb push and stuff. No go. I don't get the option for Webtop.
At least, this is my understanding of this? To use it on your laptop without a dock-right?

note edge downgrade (LP to KK)

Hi, I have note edge N915F and is currently running on lollipop 5.0.1.
With LP, my battery drains very fast and random over heat occurrence and stutter. They say KK is better compared to LP(Battery wise). Thats why I wanted to downgrade back to KK.
I successfully downgraded my unit once using ODIN but after I install KK it automatically upgraded to LP(I understand that to stop this my unit should be rooted?) But after reading all the guides in this forum I wasn't able to understand the procedures/steps and I don't want my unit to be BRICKED. (NEWBIE here)
I need help on how to downgrade from LP to KK.
Thank you !

Yup twice or thrice done that, also wipe cache in recovery mode but unfortunately it doesn't help at all. My average SoT is 3hrs+(Is that normal for note edge) with normal use one game running(COC) but not all the time.
This is what I normally do...I know a little hassle...I flash the updated lolly stock firmware...which would mean I loose the root. That doesn't matter. I do a factory reset. After all done. ..then i root. Sometime I just don't trust recovery to do well in full wipe. There are times when I also do three times wipe...before installing other custom rom.

Here is also another tip on how to get good battery life: (of course people have their own preference, you dont have to do the same...but the following setting seem to give a good battery life).
1. In the notification slidedown bar, in the slider for brightness...set to 2, while maintain the auto checked
2. In the Wifi advanced setting.....turn off network notification, Turn off the keep wifi on, and unchecked always allow scanning
3. Try to disable most of vibrating stuff (notification, feedback or even keyboard/pen etc.. )
4. Under S pen, disable pen detection
5. Install auto disabler app or even the popular clean master app (have auto disable app). Basically this app allow you to disable some app to start at boot. Personally I disable all the app.....basically I just open them as I need. This way you can ensure nothing stealing your resources in the background. Dont worry in disabling all of them that are detected by the app, it wont messed up the phone. Personally I really think most of the battery issue is caused by something in the background running...or causing the system to wake up (unable to sleep).
Optional setting:
1. Always remember, using WIFI is better for the battery than the 4G data. So switching off data, while using WIFI is better.
2. Turning of location can be a big help....and only turn them on as you need them (i.e. using GPS app).
3. Switching the network mode to non LTE can make a big difference. Obviously this is will mean no 4G speed....but for some people that rely mostly on Wifi, this doesnt matter. For me I dont really think too much speed difference between 4G and 3G....Besides data can be costly too (at least here in Australia)
4. Turn on the power saving mode when you dont use the phone.
Anyway, give a go.....trial and see if your battery get better.....good luck

Sorry my bad, I should get a little detail. Personally I dont update my phone through OTA (which mean over the air, direct from your phone). I always download the file from Sammobile site. This is the whole stock firmware file or ROM. To install this firmware, you will need an app called ODIN. This app allow you to flash the firmware to your phone. In basic term, this ODIN is a tool to restore the ROM or the OS of your phone. Do a little search in the forum, and you will learn more. Considering you have recovery, and root....so I am pretty sure you are familiar with ODIN??
Anyway, currently on stock firmware BOE1 (N915G).....I am getting at least 5-5.30 hrs of screen on time (depend if I used a lot of wifi or 4G). I am pretty much happy, on average my phone will last more than a day.

Yup, I once use ODIN to downgrade my firmware. I get it now, I installed KK but after successfully installing, It automatically update to Lolly via wifi. My phone is not rooted BTW, I don't know how to root it that's why.
Mine is BOB6 (N915F).
17H 25m on Battery(34%) and screen on time 2H11m. Wont last a day, geez I wish I bought different model or brand. This unit is way too expensive but with poor performance(battery).
You can disable OTA updates after downgrade
Hi... I downgraded my Edge to KK and disabled the OTA app through ADB. If you search the Note 4 forums you can find instructions on how to do it. It's not difficult, but some basic knowledge of ADB is necessary.

Copy that ! Thank you. May I ask what list/items did you disable on the ADB or Debloater to block OTA.
Some of the items/list on my ADB:
wssyncmlnps.apk-----------com.wssyncmldm
wssyncmlnps.apk-----------com.wssnps
FotaClient.apk---------------com.sec.android.fotaclient
LocalFOTA.apk---------------com.LocalFota
SPDClient.apk----------------com.policydm
Thanks
I'm on AT&T. If you are on a different carrier, Your update apks might be different. Might have to do a little research to make sure you find the right ones.
These are the commands I entered:
ADB shell "pm block com.sec.android.fwupgrade"
ADB shell "pm block com.ws.dm"
If you change your mind later and decide you want to take the updates, simply change the word "block" to "unblock".
Easy peasy
Edit... Looks like maybe the FOTA is the one you wanna block. But, again, I'm not POSITIVE. ( I deny any responsibility for what you do to your device. ) I'd do a little searching before blocking anything. An easy way to check after blocking is to try to run SOFTWARE UPDATES in your settings menu. If you blocked the right apk, NOTHING will happen when you click on it.
