Hi guys,
My eee pad bricked like 2 months ago and I tried really everything and the conclusion was just wait for ICS. So thats what I did
Now when ICS arrived for our devices I downloaded the original files from asus.com WW and US tried both. And copied first US version to my sd card(which is fat32) and named it EP101_SPUPDATE.zip (I bought my eee pad in the us, so I thought i need us version then) And yes I copied them to the root of my SD-card. so when I booted up with volume button down I saw the recovery text and pressed vol-up and entered recovery kernel. I see a android guy with a progressbar underhim and then it jumps to an android guy(green) with an white triangle with a yellow exclamation mark inside above the android man. and then nothing happens:S (also tried this with the WW update) So my question is what to do what to do
Am I doing something wrong? or is there something else I can do?
P.S. I tried NvFlash alrdy. (didn't work neither) cold-booting doesn't work howver wipe-date in recovery does work!. And my device got bricked when went from revolver rom to custom and forgot to reboot when I flashed the stock asus eee pad rom.
p.s.
when I boot into recovery i see this line;
US-EPAD-8.6.5.19-20111107. Not sure what it means

Did you extract the zip file from within the file you download or did you just leave it as is?
Also try renaming the file to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip instead of EP101_SPUPDATE.zip
Do you still have CWM Recovery installed or did you go back to stock recovery?
If you are using CWM Recovery still I think you can just use that to flash the update.
Also, users running 8.6.5.19 and they try to update to ICS are not having any luck, but if they do a manual update to 8.6.5.21 that works, then they can update to ICS. It appears that ICS will only want to update from 8.6.5.21.

Kay thanks, I'll try the .21 update
I guess im kinda doomed;s
I tried the .21 US and WW version now (extracted them) and named them EP101_SDUPDATE.ZIP (didn't work)
And ye, im still at stock recovery not at cwm;p
I have same problem...
How can I use nvflash with stock rom? Or something with APX mode?

First you have to determined if you have a device that is compatible with NVFlash.
Check your serial number to see what it start with. B60 and previous you'll be OK.
Some B7O will work, B8O and newer will not work with NVFlash.

Since you are on older version of android and havent updated to latest OTA release try universal root toolkilt v7.. follow the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
You need to extract the asus folder and copy that as well as putting the EP101_SDUPDATE.zip in the root of your MicroSD.
You could have a bad download. Try downloading again.

I have looked all over the forums and I can not find it. All the forums show how to root a Xoom with Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich TO Jellybean, but what if i already have JellyBean? I just want to get superuser access onto the stock Jellybean ROM and Kernel.
This Link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1796335
Has been the most useful so far, but even it only roots Ice Cream Sandwich.
How do I root Android 4.1.1 on my Motorola Xoom with 4.1.1.

Do I need to have clockwork mod installed or anything, i have done NOTHING root to my xoom. I rooted my HTC EVO 4G. But i havent flashed a recovery, installed a ROM, No SU, NOTHING. So what exactly should i do with your zip?
Use instructions and tools in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468298 to get Clockwork installed, and then use the modded zip that matt4321 posted (I think that should work... )
Yeah use the AIO tool to unlock your bootloader, then you want to install CWM recovery, then boot into recovery and flash the zip I uploaded
I used this exact process (ended up just GEDify'ing it after sending it back to stock), but before I did that everything worked fine.
Thank you!
I'm too junior to get a Thanks button, so thank you to matt4321 for the JB universal XOOM root, to airesch for leading me too XxLordxX's link and of course to XxLordxX for the tools and instructions to get my XOOM rooted! Worked perfect on my XOOM WIFI JRO03H with no problems. You guys are the best!:good:
stuck on Starting Fastboot Protocol Support - Xoom Android 4.1
I'm trying to follow the directions to install ClockworkMod Recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979
I'm using Recovery Image (solarnz-R4c-100611-1150) FLASHED THROUGH FASTBOOT
MD5: 20575d4b62bf697f77abca9093877ea3
and following the procedure for "Method 2 Without CWM"
I got as far as entering the code: adb reboot bootloader
The Xoom rebooted and the Motorola logo appears with the message "Starting Fastboot Protocol Support"
It's just stuck there.
The volume up/down buttons don't do anything at this point.
Any ideas?
thanks!

Hi,
thanks for the url.
One problem.
And the most important, download EOS-RECOVERY-V6, the "recovery software" that will allow you to work without the need of the PC:

This link goes to a file not found page.
Any update on where I can get that file?

You have to use another recovery. Eos-r6 was abandoned and another recovery came in as the perfect one. TWRP recovery

Matt,
Is this file appropriate for the WiFi only Xoom?
I installed TWRPv2.8.0.0-Wingray-Non-BigPart on my Xoom. That process went flawlessly.
I used TWRP to install "vanilla" Xoom-Universal-Root.zip. This also appeared to go flawlessly.
However, various root checker apps tell me I do NOT have root.
Please, any suggestions? I ultimately want to get to BigPart but I'm stuck at this point.
thanks,
Dave

Yeah, that zip should be good to root any Xoom on 4.1. I wouldn't bother sorting root if you want to go to bigpart as it wipes everything anyway.
Jump straight to bigpart, read read and read again this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506997
Once that is all sorted and booted, I think you should be good to just flash whatever root tool you want (SuperSU, phh superuser etc)
My memory is rusty on all this though, I haven't messed with my xoom in a long time and you quoted a post over 4 years old lol
i downloaded tf300t software. renamed recovery. went into twrp factory reset. installed recovery file. as well as JB GApps.. and im running very creamy JB on my tf700t. others say you can brick. maybe i got lucky.
so do you have to be unlocked to install this?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
im not sure. i did it unlocked via twrp. i dont know the process of doing it unlocked.
i suggest you to post a video before people start bashing you like they did for the other guy

he said he did it with twrp...so yes you have to unlock
I'm running the TF300 also.
I also renamed & flashed the zip via TWRP.
I lost root & it appears recovery also.
I'll advise as I find out more.
So far everything else is great.
Be careful flashing the TF300 ROM. It does replace the bootloader as well, so if it bricks, you're probably hardbricked.
I can confirm that it is working
If this is a troll its a good one because i am very close to trying this myself.
its not bs, we already know its possible cause that other guy got it ota. how? mystery, but the build numbers dont lie, he has a 300 version firmware
i have a working twrp recovery. download the blob file. enter fastboot. rename the file twrp.blob
make sure your device is being read by entering adb device, device should show..then enter this
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
then enter into recovery.
working on a root right now
okay guys. working jelly bean. working recovery... working root. im so happy
So would doing this slow down the processor?
By this i'm talking about the eco, standard, and performance settings.
- They would be clocked differently, or am i wrong?
ill run a benchmark right now
Thats really awesome news !
Could you maybe write a little more detailed how you got that to work ?
I for instance do not understand what "renamed recovery" in the first post means and i do not understand this part :
"download the blob file. enter fastboot. rename the file twrp.blob"
Where did you download the blob file.
oh okay so when you download the blob from twrp its a longer name. its not necessary but just convenient.
the original name is openrecovery-twrp-2.2.1.4-tf700t.blob
its just more convenient to name it twrp.blob
here is the website
teamw.in/project/twrp2/105
if there are any devs out there. will i experience any problems from only factory resetting upgrading to jb from ics. should i have qiped the system?

I assume that I'll have to have root first before I can do much else.
So I'm standing by.
You are a brave man, risking your infinity to experiment. I hope you are under warranty and able to exchange at best buy or something if you brick. I'm glad someone is experimenting though. Best of luck to you, I'll be interested to see how it all works out. If stock 300 JB runs on the infinity, I wonder if custom roms from the 300 will run too. The Hydro rom makes me jealous that we don't have such a big dev scene yet.
forgive me if i am asking a noob question but does that method need unlock?
the website is teamw.in/project/twrp2/105
and no. when you install jelly bean your root and recovery are not there anymore.
the steps i took were to flash recovery via fastboot.
go into recovery. and flash superuser (which you can get from http://androidsu.com/superuser/ )
download the Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip and put in the root of micro sd card
flash and you will have a successfully rooted device.

This is your stock recovery. You need to install a recovery. You can do this using the ABD tool in the Dev section. After you have a better recovery, which I suggest at least TRWP 2.4.4, Flash the zip in the stock 4.2.1 thread that has TWRP 2.5 and 4.2.1 Boot loader. 4.1.1 will run on the 4.2.1 boot loader. After that then flash the stock 4.2.1 in the same thread. It is pre rooted. This is all if your unlocked.

Unzip the file then rename the unzipped file to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip" (without the quote), then copy it to the root of your micro sdard, boot into recovery by hold volum down and power button, when you see the white text on the screen let go both buttons, then hit volume up twice, it should flash the firmware file

The guy with the exclamation mark ISSSSS your recovery. It is not a full interface. It will only flash a rom if there is one available, if it is not, it will do what you stated. Unzip the file downloaded from ASUS website once after downloading, then put the zip on your Micro SD card and rename it EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip. restart going into recovery and it should flash it.

I am on the new 4.2 bootloader and TWRP 2.4. Last night I went to upgrade TWRP. I chose the TWRP file named twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-4.2.blob. I renamed the file twrp.blob and pushed it out via fast boot. When done I rebooted via fastboot, and then rebooted into recovery.
Now something is not right, twrp is split into two screens horizontily and shows the lock picture on both. I have to power cylce to get back to Andriod. Where did I go wrong? Should I have chosen the .img file?
Ok I think think I realized there has been a second 4.2 bootloader update from Asus and that's my problem. Is that right?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
yes.
A lot of people have soft bricked their device because of this.
Yeah from what I've read twrp 2.5.0.0-4.2 will only work correctly on JB bootloader 10.6.1.15.3, not sure yet if twrp 2.4.4.0-4.2 works on 10.6.1.15.3.
I have no issues with twrp 2.5.0.0-4.2 on JB 10.6.1.15.3

So I have 10.6.1.8 and installed 2.5.0.0 and am experiencing the same problem (the noob proof guide wasn't very noob proof apparently). How would I go about putting on the correct version?
EDIT: So I just took the plunge and reflashed the correct version which I found http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/tf300t/openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-tf300t-4.2.blob here. I was initially worried because I wasnt sure if I could just flash over and downgrade versions...it worked for me, and TWRP is currently making a backup and is full screen and running.
