As it says in the title, I went through the steops in the following thread to root my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
I followed it to a T, and when it came to rebooting my phone, it said to take out the battery, then put it back in (keep in mind, ODIN said it was successful in doing what it's supposed to do). I unplugged the usb from my phone and took out the battery. I waited a minute then put it back in, now it won't power up. I've scoured the net to find a way to get it to turn on, and everything i've tried failed. The battery was at 95% when I started the process, so it's not a dead battery (i've even let it sit and charge for a bit too on a wall charger). I've tried getting into download mode and various other key combinations while trying to power on the phone, still nothing. I've held the power button while doing key combinations for 30-60 seconds like a post on one of the forums I read suggested, still nothing. Any ideas?

So to confirm, you got to step 3, you flashed the custom recovery in the PDA slot with ODIN, waited for the green "PASS" to appear, pulled the battery, and are now bricked?
Also wondering; does the LED turn on? My first attempt at rooting my GS3 the device would boot to a black screen, but the little LED would turn blue. It was also pretty finnicky about booting into download; make sure you have the volume button pressed down first. If you can get it back into download, I would flash a stock recovery via ODIN, and try again (If you're not too traumatized).

The LED doesn't turn on no matter what. As of today, for some reason it turns on for a minute when I plug in the charger (it lights up orange), but then disappears after a few minutes

If you can get it into download mode again, you can flash the stock Verizon ROM.
I've soft bricked mine quite a few times, this has worked 100% of the time.

Thanks! I'll see if I can get it to turn on and go to download mode to try that. I'll post up what happens.
Also, did you check the md5's of the files you downloaded and make sure they matched the md5's in the guide. It sounds like you may have flashed a bad download.
Sorry to say it, brother, but it's borked. Been there, did that.... See here :

I recently started looking into rooting my phone and was trying to use Odin to flash Clockwork Recovery mod into my Sidekick 4g. In the middle of downloading the program shut down. I unpluged the phone from the computer and got a black screen with an image of phone+!+computer. So i rebooted into download mode, opened odin, and plugged the phone into the computer. Clicked start and it reset. Then it went into a reboot loop, alternating between the boot up logo and a white screen with 2 blue lines. I thought i could reset it again with odin so i did, and now i have a black screen that only has the back light on if i press the power key or plug it in the computer via usb. Now odin wont even recognize my device. Neither would adb devices. If i hold volume down and power key for a few seconds the back light flashes on and off once then completely off. Can anyone please Help?

it sounds like there is a chance your device is bricked beyond repair i did that to mine by flashing the wrong stuff with Odin, and i had no choice but to get a new one. all i could get was a slight backlighting when pressing buttons, no DL mode, no boot logo, nothing.
btw, Odin isn't used to root the phone or to install Clockwork Recovery(at least as far as i know). Odin is a tool to use if something goes wrong somewhere and you need to restore your phone from a soft brick.
also, just so you know, this post should go in the General section of this forum.
try an alternate way to go into download mode:
take the battery out
connect the phone via usb to the computer
while pressing vol down + power + trackpad insert the battery
try it a couple of times, if it doesn't work, sorry

I think this goes in the general section bro.
had VERY similar issues 2x.
I had to repartition with Odin, then drop the image.
The image drop didn't work, but after I reparted, (repart failed at the end, but it was good enough to redrop the image, after restarting the whole thing over again) all was good.
Just odin in that screen it will work pull the battery and plug ur phone in connected to the computer and odin regular its not brick I had this happen to me twice and twice I odined back to stock. Make sure all three boxes are checked

My phone also showed the "phone - ! - PC" icon so I thought it was done for as well. Between these two threads, specifically tweeklulz post above, I was able to recover my phone!
Prior to starting the ODIN process, power on your Sidekick to that wretched brick screen. From there plug your phone to your phone via USB then immediately remove the battery. That horrible brick screen will still be there, but just run the ODIN process anyway.
Thank you all for your input! This saved my phone and I am a 9million% NOOB to developing and mods. LOL

i tried odin, and once i click start, the phone doesnt even show download mode anymore, and it wont boot.
When i press power, dimmed lights come up on the background and when i connect it with usb, same thing..
Look back at the Odin threads again. I doubt your phone is (permanently) bricked.

We do have UnBrickable Mod on this device now. You just remove a resistor, create a bridge and then use the Ultimate UnBrickable Resurrector to upload Download Mode to the device any time you want.. It takes a bit of skill, but hey.. Nothing to have a heart attack about.

I searched, sorry if I missed a thread. Here's where my problems began: Flashed Zeus, wanted to try Zeus-EX, didn't like it went back to Zeus ALL WITHOUT WIPING. Now I'm stuck in a bootloop, I go back to CM7, get blue CWM. Reboot, another bootloop. Now it won't mount E:\ so I attempt Odin back to stock. It was downloading, a little bit of the blue bar showed up as the phone was in download mode. Here's where sh*t hit the fan. COMPUTER REBOOTS, probably because of some update or something. I come back in 10 minutes, bar hasn't moved. I freak, and reboot the phone. Now the screen is black, it won't turn on, I've tried battery pull, plugging into USB w/o battery. Everything. Any suggestions?
Will it get into download mode.....?

When you say on, off, on, off. Do you mean the lights flash then it goes off or does it try to boot?
Can you get into download mode?
Have you tried a different battery or left the battery out for an hour or so, then tried again?

First you need to download Heimdall or Odin from the ISET page to you PC. I believe Odin uses the Kies drivers and Heimdall replaces the with a Samsung composite driver. I personally use the Heimdall back to stock that is rooted.
Once you have them and decide which one you will use, you will need to get into download mode. Take the battery out, connect USB to phone and preferably a rear USB port on your PC. Hold volume up and down, No Power button though, and then insert the battery. This should put you in download mode and you need to push volume up to get to it. Volume down cancels it and will reboot. You may want to just try that one time to see if it corrects the problem. If not, repeat steps to get to download and flash either Odin to Heimdall and then start flashing again.
Read the instructions on the OP of Odin or Heimdall and ask questions if you aren't sure of what to do.

Sorry for the long title but it states my predicament. Basically my power button is done and I can't boot into recovery anymore. It just is a endless cycle of reboots(vibrates everyone 15 seconds or so). I even tried to enter download mode, which it does but than restarts the bootloop issue. Anyhow, I've never used ODIN so someone please fill me in. I want to ODIN back to stock because it's my last hope and basically I can't get into recovery anymore anyway. But do I need to use my power button to ODIN? Also what if I can't get into ODIN mode because it just wants to continue to reboot. Any help? I'm at a lost here.

Moved to Q and A. I suggest pulling your battery for at least thirty minutes or maybe an hour. Then put the battery back in(do not power on) and plug the phone into your charger and allow it to charge overnight. From what you have said the power button does indeed work but you have done something to your phone causing a boot loop. In the morning search XDA for Odin procedures (there are a plethora of them on XDA) and attempt your Odin to stock. If the phone continues to boot loop I hope you have insurance... I did this to my LG Optimus once... And couldn't save it...

It does "work" but not correctly. Apparency its a known issue and called SDS. basically the way it acts is that when I press the button, the phone
Is acting as if I pressed it twice. So I press it to turn screen off, screen comes right back on. Long press power button for reboot menu, flashes, dissapears and than comes right back. This I believe is why I can't boot into recovery or download mode. Not that the phones bricked, but the phone is having trouble recognizing power button hits.
So my last try was to Odin back to stock just to see if that helps. But when I hold the buttons down to get into download mode or select it in reboot menu, it boots into it real quick(I see download mode appear on screen) but than immediately starts looping. So when I use Odin, will it automatically boot into download mode for me? What about mobile Odin?

I had the same problem With my s3... It was out of warranty so I sent it to mobile tech videos to have the power switch repaired. It's been great ever since. I realize that doesn't really Answer your question about Odin, just figured I'd chime in with what I had to do. I was afraid to attempt to Odin or flash anything before the repair bc in my mind the phone believed the power button was being pressed repeatedly and that would make it interrupt the flash.
Also if you're under warranty, Samsung will most likely fix it despite being rooted. Mobile Tech Videos sounds like a great option too if you're out of warranty, glad to see there's an alternative way to get it fixed.

I don't have the phone in question but for my Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S, T-mo variant) if you press and hold the Volume Up button while plugging in the charger or say your computer's USB port the phone will boot into download mode. Not sure if it will work for the S3 though. Hopefully it does! :fingers-crossed:
Also, for my work around, I've mapped the Volume up button within ROMs to 'POWER WAKE' to replace the power button. It's not needed but its an easy way to reboot to recovery if its implemented in the Roms power menu. Occasionally the phone will crash or the battery may die. If I'm at home, that's an easy fix, just boot up download mode and flash a kernel/modem/recovery via odin and make sure auto reboot is selected. The phone should boot, granted there are no errors. The only problem I have is when it crashes or battery dies and I'm not at home I can't turn on the phone. If anyone knows a way around powering on or booting into recovery without the use of the power button or odin/download mode I will be eternally grateful. I'm try to get my Vibrant in working order for my father whose never had a Smart phone. I myself have upgraded to the s4 and am glad I stuck with what I knew instead of getting the HTC One. =]

My GT P6800 was working fine a few days ago. Charged it fully and went on holidays. Went to turn it on, and no activity. Plugged it in to charge, the battery icon came on screen and I let it charge fully. I then tried to turn it on again, and it still wouldn't turn on. I've now found that the only thing I can do is boot into download mode. Vol Down and Power brings up the Download Mode menu, when I press Vol Up, it enters Download Mode, when I press Vol Down to reboot, the screen blanks and nothing happens. I've tried pressing the power button for up to 30 seconds - nothing. I've tried entering recovery mode using Vol Up and Power buttons - nothing.
I entered download mode and tried to install ClockworkMod recovery using Odin, but once Odin had finished and "rebooted" the tablet, the screen went blank and nothing happened.
I'm happy to blow this away, install any ROM etc., would just like to get it working. It's been a while since I last rooted/flashed it, but I believe it's still running 4.04, and was rooted some time ago.
Any tips very welcome!
Try flash a full stock firmware package with Odin.

Hmmm... I installed P6800XXLQ2_P6800OXALQ2_ATO obtained from Sammobile using ODIN, had "Automatically reboot" ticked, and once the flashing finished, the device didn't reboot. I then tried all the power button options, and the only one that gave a response was entering download mode. I then entered download mode, and let it sit there for a while while I did a bit more research, and then I noticed the screen went blank. I've now tried to turn it on again, and now get no response at all. Will try to plug it in to charge for a bit and see if it responds.
Any other ideas?
Ok, not sure what's happened here. Plugged it in, it showed the charge icon, and then booted up. Nothing has been wiped, it still shows as 4.0.4. I'm wondering if for some reason it was actually booting, but the screen wasn't coming on properly, and therefore it's run the battery down. It's now showing as charging, and the battery currently has 0% charge. Will let it charge for a while, then try root, install CWM and flash 4.1.2....
thanks for your help.
I have the same problem. I can enter only in download mode, if I press Vol Up I still see Samsung logo, no any actions. I've tried to install CWM, stock firmware, PIT with re-partition. No success. Need your help, please.
If you'se can get to download mode... using Odin, Flash stock Honeycomb..3.2...
If you get that (HC) up and running, then do the steps to up and up to JB...
good luck
