[Q] Stock Kernel with Vipers rom - HTC Sensation

hi guys, can i flash the ics stock Kernel: 3.0.16 with vipers rom 1.6.3 ? without bootloop ? and if i get a bootloop can i flash the stock boot.img to fix that or no?
i have tried all the kernels but i like to go back to the stock kernel with a custom rom, even if some features is not gonna work such as burst mode. or battery drin... im good with that.
i just wanna make sure they are compatible before i screw myself and format my phone again...
thanks:good:

My friend, Stock Kernel won't work with Viper ROM at all..u'll surely get bootloop..So dont try even..
Viper is the Pure port from HTC One S villeC2..HTC has never put Sense 4 for Sensation..So that makes no any sense to flash the ICS Stock kernel..
Use Bricked or Sebastian FM's Kernel..they are majorly depended on Stock kernel with modified some changes that can handle ICS sense 4.x

The stock kernel works with ViperS. First of all, all kernels for the Sensation are based off of the stock kernel source, so it will DEFINITELY work. Secondly, it doesn't matter if the ROM was ported from the HTC One S VILLEC2; there would only be a problem if ViperS was Jelly Bean, but it isn't, so the stock kernel will 100% work with ViperS. Thirdly, the kernel requires no modifications to run Sense 4.X; since I'm a kernel developer, I've looked at the sources of kernels like Bricked and PYD-X, and none of them have any modifications whatsoever specifically for Sense 4.X. Finally, Sebastian's kernel is based off of the stock kernel, and it works with all Sense ROMs, be it Sense 4.X or Sense 3.X, and Sebastian made no special modifications at all to achieve this.
That being said, go ahead and flash the stock kernel

Will WiFi/Bluetooth works in ViperS with Stock Kernel ?
Not a single developer has suggested or mentioned Stock Kernel in Sense 4.x based ROMs..at least I haven't seen any Sense 4.x ROM with Stock Kernel..!!!
No doubt ARHD and Sense 3.x base ROM uses Stock Kernel..!! But I'm preety much sure that in Sense 4.x based ROM, WiFi/BT or something will definitely get broke... :finger-crossed:

Nope, WiFi and Bluetooth will work. Salwansk, I have attached a flashable .zip of the stock HTC kernel at the bottom of this post. I got the kernel files from the HTC stock ROM .zip in the S-OFF guide located in the General section.

It's just a coincidence. Not many people like the stock kernel.

one reason can be camera's flash
what i mean
me personally i think it is annoying not able to use the flash when battery drops down to 30%
but with custom kernel(sebastianFM in my case) i can use the flash even when the battery percentage drops down until 10%
it could be a reason

Just flashed the HTC stock kernel posted above with Viper S 1.6.3. Its stuck on the htc sensation boot screen.

Maybe I packaged the .zip file incorrectly... Nope, I packaged it correctly.
Or it could be the same bootloop problem that PYD-X has. Extract the HTC-stock-kernel zip and flash the boot.img using fastboot.
It might have something to do with the ramdisk and not the kernel itself.
EDIT: I'll just remove the .zip I posted because it's not gonna work. I'll extract it from HyperNonSense this time instead of the stock system.
EDIT2: This is the stock kernel from HyperNonSense. HyperNonSense uses the stock HTC kernel but the dev probably modified the ramdisk to make it work. If this zip doesn't work then flash a boot.img from the ROM you're using by using fastboot, reboot, then flash this again.

No, Sense 4.X has absolutely nothing to do with it. It probably has something to do with the ramdisk. I'd be amazed if it actually had anything to do with Sense 4.X because Sebastian made no special changes to accommodate Sense 4.X (look at his commit history here: https://github.com/SebastianFM/HTC-Sensation-overclocked-kernel/commits/master)
UPDATE: HTC's stock kernel just doesn't want to boot up -_- OP, at this point you should just use SebastianFM's kernel because it's the closest thing to the stock HTC kernel. It might not be booting up because of Sense 4.X or some other reason; who knows. At this point it's just a waste of time to try flashing the stock HTC kernel on a Sense 4.X ROM. and it's a waste of time trying to make it work with a Sense 4.X ROM.

[Q] Fastest rom out of these?

Hey guys,
i'm new to the android scene and aren't very experienced.
I own a rooted htc desire s and want to use a custom sense rom.
Which one do you would recommend for a normal use of the phone? (RCMix3d Runny S, VoidU S or Virtuous Unity?)
Thank you
VoidU S. I used this ROM for over a week. BEST SENSE ROM EVER.
VoidU is definately fastest! Especially when combined with UnityV9 kernel, overclocked.
Been using it for a while now (changing roms regularly to check what's up).
Thank you very much So i go with the VoidU Rom.
And that Kernel combination? Do I have to instal the Rom first and then install the kernel from the zip? Or at first the kernel and then the Rom?
But VoidU has problems with Whatsapp FC no? so for those of us who use it everyday, which rom you suggest?
VoidU has a solution in the thread somewhere. I'll always reccomend this ROM. imIt's just too good.

best way is to first flash the rom, boot it up and set it up, wait a bit till its fully loaded, and then reboot into recovery and flash the kernel (if u need it, default kernel works fine as hell too )

I'm using the Saga LBC Mod and it's pretty quick. I've not ever had trouble with speed though, so it's not that big an issue for me. On my old Hero, however...

Read here!
Tried VoidU and noticed that its much faster for me then Virtuous Unity.
Got 2608 points in quadrant benchmark with the VoidU S ROM and the Unity v9 kernel
I would say Runny v1.4

I've tried all the ROMs by Proxuser, and in my opinion the best is currently the Runny v1.4.
Been using it regularly for a couple of days and have found it to be very smooth, stable, sense 3.5 is a dream come true, the RCMIX3D tweaks are done just right and the battery life is superb.
Would definitely recommend this one. VoidU is a good alternative too.

[Q] Which ideal kernel for Vipers 1.6.3 ?

Hi All,
I need your suggestion which best Kernel for ROM Vipers 1.6.3 except the default Kernel (Bricked)?
Currently I use the default kernel, but the wifi looks unstable (diconnected somestimes).
What I need are:
Stable and good performance kernel for daily purpose (no game used)
Better battery life
Previously I tried Sultan r17.5 but my HH has immediate reboot while got incoming call
HH: HTC Sensation XE
ROM: Vipers 1.6.3
HBOOT: 1.29.0000
Radio: 11.24A.3504.31_M
Locked Bootloader
S-OFF
You might want to change your setup. I've seen better performance compared to bricked with worthy battery trade-off.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I was reading in the forums because I have 1.6.3 since their newer version, 3.0 or something doesn't have the camera, so it's a big turn off for me until that's fixed. But they said something about flashing another kernal over could brick the device for their ROM... or ruin it for that matter. I've been in bootloops and stuff before, so I'm curious... maybe that's just for their new version? I always stick with the default kernal because I'm still learning what half the stuff is. But if you can flash a kernal to 1.6.3 then I might give it a shot.

don't listen to that post
of course you can't flash a kernel from droid dna to sensation and surely you will damage the device
it was only a joke.nothing else
in vipers 3.0.1 you can only use pyramid ION kernel by sebastianFM
in vipers 1.6.3 you can use overclocked kernel 1.5.2 by sebastianfm or pyd-x kernel by axetilen or other kernels
edit:if you are S-ON use 4ext to flash kernel and before flashing enable smartflash
and a nandroid backup just in case before anything

ahh okay, I see. Sorry I misread the original post, but thank you for the info.
Since I've flashed Vipers 1.6.3 the developers suggest me that use the Sultan Kernel... Daily the rom seems to be good, stable and smooth ..... except in wifi (sometimes) and with tethering/mobile hotspot (the phone or disconnect automatically the hotspot OR the phone reboots every 10-20 minutes)
With a reflash I gonna see if these problems get out!
Sultan Kernel RULES!!
u have the one which come with the rom u can find it in a folder in your sd called venom (after u flashed the rom of course)
or u can try Sultan kernel ... i am usingvit now it is pritty amazing

My phone is getting very buggy with Vipers 1.6.3 and I don't know why. I tried wiping caches but after 1 day it returns in a buggy state. Very slow to open apps and to switch from one to another. Maybe is a kernel problem? I'm using default (Bricked)

I have tried flash Sultan r17.5 but my phone got reboot while got incoming call.
Also tried to flash SebastianFM 1.5.2 but this kernel has no S2W
Try faux kernel. Its my favorite sense kernel.

I got reboots during phone call on sultan r17.5 (happens rarely but was unable to capture the last_kmsg) and on faux kernel (more frequent here)
I found sebs kernel is the most stablest of all but I'm a die hard fan of s2w (can't live without it)
And finally there is a kernel with sebs sources and s2w along with minimalistic changes.. It's the Grogg kernel 3.0
He recently opened a thread for it.. Do check it

I have noticed that with ViperS 1.6.3 you can get reboots on incoming calls when you use "auto brightness" or the "AOSP lock screen".
So try disabling them, wipe cache/dalkiv and see if the problem goes away (it did in my case).

The best way to go would be to unlock bootloader through HTC Dev....then flash 4EXT recovery using fastboot on pc...enable smart flash in 4EXT... then flash root and roms..
Here is a detailed a guide

there are other roms too which are pretty good...for sense 4+ try Revelation or ViperS JB
Hope that helps

ICS ROMs should not have any bugs (or very little ones, if any). AOSP JellyBean ROMs should also be stable (I'm using albinomans CM10.1 for a month now without any issues (except MMS , which has a fix in here).
As for Sense 4+ (Android 4.1), it should be almost stable, but AFAIK there are still some issues with the touchscreen and it has not yet been perfected. I'm giving it some more time to mature myself, but many people use it as a daily driver already. There are two sense 4+ ROMs available: ViperS (which has many more tweaks for advances users), and Revelation (which is very close to stock).
Both use the same kernel and will be perfected at the same time, as all of the issues currently plagueing those ROMs are kernel related.

I am selling my Sensation which rom do you think is most stable

Right now i have flashed ViperS 5.0.0 do you think that is stable enough? What would you recommend. The most important thing is stable.
You should probably revert back to compete stock.

WiFi doesn't seem to work on my sensation with the sultan kernel. Just go with the provided kernel. The rom I would reccomend is the ViperS sense 5.0 rom. Its very stable, and you get jelly bean with it too. I also would reccommend a tweaking tool for the SebastionFM kernel (the stock one in the ROM). Its pretty neat because you can customise alot of it.

The best way is to go as close to stock as he can, all other roms are not quite good as it. I tried almost all of them and I always come back to ARHD.

Stock vs custom

I've tried every Rom and there's problems with all off them. Stock seems to be the best . Also when a new version of android comes out the old versions never get finished.

I haven't used stock rom for years now, so I don't know how it's like, but there are very good custom ROM's out there that are very good and some of them are very close to stock feeling. Anyway in my opinion the phone with stock 3.6 sense is unusable, this sense version is so bad that I can't even look at it so I guess it's everyone with their own opinion...

If you will try rom like Android Revolution HD and Revelation or Venom Viper S 5. You will change your mind about stock rom.
Custom ROM way better than Stock
Sense 5 is a lot lighter than sense 3.5 that came with the stock ROM for our Sensation. My Sensation used to get heated up a lot. But Viper S 5.1 is such an awesome ROM. Try it mate you wont be dissapointed:good:

HTC support for Sensation was so close-term and Sense was too heavy for it for no good reason. I use Android 4.4.3 CyanogenMod 11 with 3.0.16 kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530073
pros are with custom side.
