Need help cleaning out my SD card - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'm having a hard time making sense of the file system. I have directories which contain copies of the same pictures, music and app data. How do I tell what needs to be kept for app functionality and which is the copy?
There's an /external_sd/ directory that contains much of the same data as /sdcard/. They both point to -> sdcard0 so I'm guessing this is just some sort of junction? I also have a directory called /storage/ which contains the sub-directories /sdcard0/ and /sdcard1/
I'm trying to clear up space and just organize things better since I just switched to this phone recently and took my sd card with me.

sdcard0 is your internal SD, and sdcard1 is your external.
My suggest would be to plug your phone into your computer, then pull everything off of the external SD and format the external using your PC. Unplug the phone from the computer, then plug it back in. The directories that auto-generate are the ones your system needs. Go through the old card folders and move the ones you want back on. ezmode

Issue with a2sd and new card

I'm trying to move my a2sd partition to a new sd card but Im not having any luck. I have the card partitioned. I copied my old card onto my Linux desktop then put the new card in my computer and copied the files onto the ext partition. When I turned on the phone it is not recognizing the apps on the card. I had to move the folders over using root access on my desktop. Once I had the files moved over the folders were showing up but had an "X" on them. Can anyone help? I really dont want to have to reinstall all of my apps.

How do you move files off your internal SD to an external SD?

I just got this external SD card installed, but I can't figure out how to move media files off my internal onto my external within the phone (Astro).
I saw the external SD folder under the SD card, but I couldn't move files to it within the phone. I ultimately plugged in Mass Storage and I saw two different external drives and I moved it that way. That took a long time to move 7 gbs.
Any other way to do it?
Use my files that is right there in apps built in long press on the file or folder you want. There are other apps on the market that work but that is there.

Or move.
From a phone
Astro doesn't allow me to move them from internal to external either. Never has. I just use root explorer or file manager. I assume its something to do with permissions but I never cared enough to look into it.

Strange SD problem.

I'm having the same problem with 2 SD cards. It recognizes the card and all that but when I go into file manager and click storage I see at the bottom right /mnt/sdcard and there are a bunch of folder "downloads, dcim, movies etc". They all have files in them but the sd card still shows no space used.
When I pop out the sd card and go to file manager I still see the /mnt/sdcard and all the files and folders are there so obviously it's not storing stuff on the sd card even though file manager says it is.
Any idea as to what's going on?

one way 2 see the cards content is clicking on the notification icon bottom right of notification bar then the folder icon, this opens up the card and its content
correct path being /removable/microsd

There's a folder on the tablet called sdcard that is not actually an sd card. The physical sd cards can be seen under removable>MicroSD
So can I assume that the downlods/dcim etc folders don't save to the sd card automatically like on my evo? And if so is there any way to force it to?

It definitely seems that the apps think that the sdcard folder is truly the sdcard. I am really curious if you did apps to sd if it would just save the app in the sdcard folder, or look for a physical sdcard. I am wondering if my 16gb is partitioned somehow for system, data, and sdcard space. I am going to play around with this more when I have time.
With certain apps, you should be able to adjust the save location in the settings.
which sd card do you have?
Its treating the internal storage as if its the SD card you would put in a phone mounting it to /mnt/SDcard.
The actual SD card gets mounted to /Removable/SDCard.

There is no move to SD option in manage application settings as far as I can see theres no way to move apps to SD card, with the storage you get theres probably no need anyway.
/mnt/sdcard is indeed the onboard storage's sd card partition it seems. I think this is done similar to how the DInc handles its internal storage. The problem with things saving automatically to /mnt/sdcard and not the removable storage by default is because until honeycomb and tablets there haven't been any phones that have both internal storage and external sd card storage. The devs therefore only programmed apps that look for /mnt/sdcard because no matter what phone you used, thats either where the external card is or where the internal memory is partitioned as.
Until the app devs themselves update their software to allow for custom default save locations this will keep happening.
For instance, if you put an office document on one a microsd and try to open it inside quickoffice or polaris, you won't find it as those apps don't let you go any higher than /mnt/sdcard, which on the transformer is the internal memory.

It would seem they do download to the appropriate directories under /sdcard/, however /sdcard/ is the internal storage, not the MicroSD card. Looks to be a symlink to /mnt/sdcard.
Given this I expect applications that try to save to the SD card will save in /sdcard/, which of course ends up being the internal storage.

[Q] no write acces to external sd-card

I've only had this phone a few days, so my brief search may have missed this:
I am unable to move/copy/delete files on my external card (/mnt/sdcard/external_sd). The default "My Files" app allowed me to move a couple of files, but not others. But my favorites, "ES File Explorer" and "Root Explorer" seem completely unable to do anything but read files. How can this be?
If it matters, I'm rooted.
It u are cutting and pasting or moving files files to and from external to internal, mine doesn't work either. Move within the same or copying files however seems to work.
Can u delete?
I can delete some small files. But copy/paste from within external just fragged an entire folder...
Okay, here's a guess - I used this card on my Atrix that just died, which ran CM7 with ext4 formatting kernels. Should I just reformat the whole thing?
do a low level format. Use a micro sd - sd adapter and then use this free program:
http://hddguru.com/software/HDD-LLF-Low-Level-Format-Tool/
afterwards you will have to again format it to fat32 in Windows.
It does sound like the sd card is corrupt

Please Help Recover Data on Corrupted Adoptable SD Card!

My SD card is set as adoptable storage, but it has gotten corrupted. It happened when I was copying files from my phone to PC via USB (ironically I was doing this to backup my files from my phone). Somewhere during copying, the phone virtually disconnected from the PC, and on my phone it said that it couldn't read my SD card.
Couple of things to note:
I'm using Lineage OS.
The SD card isn't encrypted.
When connecting the SD card directly to my PC, the SD card shows as two drives, D: and E:, with D: being accessible showing an almost empty drive of 29,4 GB (which is the full logical capacity of this drive), and E: inaccessible, requiring a reformat (no idea what E: is). On D: the folders that I can see are .android_secure, Android (with the sub folders data and media) and LOST.DIR. All folders are empty.
This SD card should be filled with data almost up to max capacity.
I haven't changed a thing to the corrupted SD card. I did not reformat, used CHKDSK or w/e. The only things that I have done is attempting to make raw copies with HDD Raw Copy Tool and R-Studio.
I've read here and there that it is (almost?) impossible to logically fix a corrupted adoptable storage SD card in that I could just pop it back into my phone to resume where I exactly left off. So I'm looking to recover as much data from the SD card as possible. I'm most concerned about recovering my Whatsapp folder (I haven't got a complete GDrive backup of this), but I'd prefer to recover everything else as well.
What must I do?
