1. It depends on the provider; some SIM cards aren't compatible with unlocked phones.
2. Please don't bump after an hour.
3. Since this is a question, it belongs in Q&A.

That 1st statement you made doesn't tell me anything that isn't true with any other phone..ever occur to you that I'm not trying to blow 70 bucks on a T-Mobile sim card ? If your going to reply than say something alittle more helpful
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium

My point is, since no one else has responded and you seem concerned enough to bump so quickly, your best bet is to call or otherwise somehow ask T-Mobile itself. It will probably be more reliable than asking here, and makes more sense than just buying a $70 card and trying it. After a quick Google search I see that it has a site listing compatible unlocked phones, but this one isn't on there, and I don't know about how up-to-date it is.
Oh, well, I tried. My apologies for apparently being unhelpful. Good luck.
Edit: and by the way, you could try asking in the DHD section. It's essentially the same phone, and the forums are more populated.

as long as it does in fact sim unlock the phone then yes you should have no issues using tmobile... I got the code from ATT shortly before I canceled service... I used the $0.99 sim from tmobile prepay, I registered the sim (but didn't put any money on it) and verified I'd sim unlocked the phone before paying for the service.
I didn't root my phone till after I made the switch (I finally got brave after going though rooting and romming my wife's kindle fire)
this is where I got my sim from
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phones/prepaid-sim-cards
I'm almost done with my first month of service ($30 100min 5gb plan)... it works for me... if I run out of talk min it charges 0.10 min... the only down side is the voicemail isn't compatible with my google voice... I may well just move to the value plan (cost about 10$ more between my wife and I)

how to unlock sim network on at&t skyrocket ???

???
You'll need an unlock code, which you'll need to purchase. There are a bunch of reliable sites, I got mine from www.cellunlocker.net
there is no way we can do it for free ???
No one here has posted a mod or script to do it for free, and the question has come up many times. But I'm sure it's possible and maybe no one's really tried hard enough.
It's my understanding that if you live in the US and have AT&T you can get a free unlock code from them, but a lot of users have reported that they give you a hard time before they give it to you.
I'm just mentioning this because maybe it's the reason that there hasn't been a high demand here for a sim unlock mod.
Please lost back here if you do find a free way.

Is there a similar unlock method like the HTC One S where the secret is hidden in the root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693491
I remember reading about a hex edit for the cappy. Maybe someone who is interested could look it up and see how different our nv_data is and see if the same principal applies. I might take the task on when I decide to reactivate it on a new carrier.
No free method.
You could try Kachmann ...check this post.

That's where I got mine. Easy ordering, and I got my code within about 30 minutes, as opposed to the 1-5 hours they quoted me.

AT&T told me that becasue the Skyrocket is exclusive with AT&T a free unlock code is unavailable.

Tell them you are moving to Canada for 6 months, and want to use it with Rogers.
I just got off the chat with AT&T They said they can not unlock my phone because I am in contract. I told them I bought it out right, then they wanted proof of purchase. I yelled at them a little then they said I would have to call samsung to get the code. The reason for that is a updated policy.

I just got off the line with AT&T and they told me that codes are not available at all for the Skyrocket. Some line about Samsung being under agreement with AT&T and they haven't released the codes to AT&T yet. I smell the distinct aroma of bovine fecal matter on that one...
I think I will be calling them back soon and yelling at them a little bit.... It's amazing how often that seems to work when you're calling customer support and they're being belligerent....
EDIT: Well, got back on the line with them, and now they want my receipt. I bought the phone a year ago. If I have the receipt, there is no telling where it would be. A whole lot of run around.
I spent a week trying to unlock my skyrocket for free, gave up walked into a flea market, walked out 15 minutes later and $25 lighter.
Yes, you can unlock it for free through AT&T. I was able to do it. It is a pain, but it will work. You need to use the online help, ask for a supervisor, and ask for a "OKCQSubsidyUnlock" case to be opened.
See post #39 in this thread (actually, read the whole thread):

Yeah, I've been thinking about just buying a code. The only thing that still ties my phone to being an AT&T device is the network lock. How Kong did it take you to get the code?

I tried to get a code from AT&T and they would have given it to me but said it wasn't available for SR. I have heard that though that if you push hard enough they will give it to you. I don't know. I use Straight Talk now and I absolutely LOVE it. You can get an ATT sim card from them and you don't need to unlock. I have tried several pre-paid networks and they have been by far the best.
I agree, I've had straight talk for over a year using my Nokia SIM and this is my third android phone using the work around. No problems what so ever. Just plop in my e-71 SIM and put in the new apn and I'm good to go. I've never had to unlock any phone.

how to use my verizon galaxy S3 on verizon prepaid or boost

Ok, I know you all are probably going to say I didnt search thoroughly, and that is because I have no idea what to search for. I have a Galaxy S3 from Verizon that I had added onto my ex girlfriend's contract account. We broke up and the b**ch cancelled my plan. After hearing some rumors about "flashing" (i have no idea what this means) this phone to a prepaid account (i dont have a prepaid account) with verizon or boost mobile, I decided to try to research it...and came up with not a whole lot of information. Simply put, I want to know how I can use my verizon galaxy s3 on either verizon prepaid service, or boost mobile prepaid service. is there a guide for this and what all do i need to get? Thanks

Is that really all that's to it?
Yes. If its a Verizon GS3 then that's all there is to it. There wont be any flashing it to Boost though, there was a post where a guy flashed his to US Cellular but it isn't worth it in the long run. I don't even think you'd be able to flash it to boost, but I'm not 100% sure with that. You could try manually changing the APN's and a few other things, but it will be day simpler to just get a Verizon sim card since its a Verizon phone.
Anyway, all you need to do is stroll into a Verizon store, tell them what you're gonna do and they "should", key word, hook you up. Sometimes the sales associates like to say it won't work or act like a bunch of jackasses, but it will work.

I don't know about the prepaid 80 dollar plan but to get the 50 dollar plan you would have to change the esn. Both plans would give you 3g neither 4g.
I have searched and searched but have not found an answer to my exact question. I have an active us cellular galaxy s3 and i want to use it on my active boost mobile account thats on my galaxy rush. How please?! S3 and rush are both rooted.

HTC Thunderbolt activation

Hello all,
So I snagged a thunderbolt from a guy locally who only wanted 20.00 bucks for the phone cause he upgraded to a new phone. I don't think this guy know how much this phone still sells for used, thought it was to good to be true but jumped on the offer anyway and bought it for the heck of it even though I already have a droid X2 running off of page plus. The phone is almost in new condition, called Verizon to verify it was clean for activation and it is
So my question ive heard that http://www.beigephone.com/ will flash the phone to work on page plus, has anyone used this and is it a good company to go though? Also would I have to pick up another 4G LTE sim card since he left is old one in the phone?
I would do it myself, I have been rooting and flashing phones for a few years now but not sure if I wanna pony up the 100.00 bucks for CDMA Workshop since this company only charges 49.99 for flashing.
Sorry for any misspells bad day at work and was kind of drunk when I wrote this
Thanks,
Daniel San

I've known of a few people using it on Page Plus. Apparently is the best to go with if you're moving the Tbolt outside of Verizon.
Yes, you'll need to get a SIM and toss his.

[Q] bad data port/suggest unlock code company?

I have a bad data port on my infuse and i wanted to unlock it and use it as a back up phone w/ straight talk.. I literally spent HOURS looking for a way to root and/or unlock using sdcard (since it is only tool i have)... If there isn't a way to unlock w/out data port, any recommendations for a reliable, quick and inexpensive unlocking service? Thx in advance...

There is absolutely no need to unlock phone to use with Straight Talk. Go to straighttalk.com and purchase an att compatible sim card for $15 and first months $45 service card. Works on any ATT,T-Mobile,Rogers, or unlocked phone using same tower frequency as ATT
At least theoretically it will work with phones with bad IMEI due to breaking contract etc. due to fact that tower reads new IEMI on sim card rather than one on phone.

Straight Talk No Longer sells AT&T compatible cards... didn't break contract... phone was on ex-gfriend's account... rather pay money to unlock than have to deal with that biatch...

he has a lot of positive reviews...
Thx for the suggestion though...
Where'd you get that info? I was on straight talks site just a couple days ago and they still offer the sim to use an at&t phone.

Straight talk definitely pulled the at&t cards the last time I checked...some kind of pressure being exerted on s/t by at&t to help keep customers with Att phones on Att contracts.

Exact same phone, the one at Best Buy just comes with an $100 SIM card.
This is one of the most appealing features of this phone that has so far gone pretty much unrecognized. You can take this single model and jump to most major and prepaid carriers.

As long as you are paying full price, you should be able to get it without a Sprint account. It will of course depend on whether the sales person you deal with decides to be a jerk or not.

So you just stick an AT&T SIM card in there and it'll automatically switch to it? Was your phone already activated on the Sprint network? I'm curious since Sprint would tie in with the ESN activation for CDMA. If it's just as simple as putting in an AT&T or Tmobile SIM, then I'm sure getting it!

I bought a Nexus 5 from Best Buy and I'm an AT&T customer. Yes, the phone will automatically connect to AT&T's network. It took a few minutes to convince the BB employee that the phone would work on AT&T. They also insisted it was store policy that they activate every phone they sell, so I had to pay the $30 activation fee.

I can't remember specifics but I had to change the settings here back to LTE a couple of times. For some reason it wouldn't stick after the first reboot. I can't retest it because my straight talk Sim is not active right now. I can assure you it works relatively easily though.

because all N5's sold in North America are the same model, with the same frequencies (D820), the only thing that may have to be changed is the APN.
this is not like other Sprint specific devices like the G2 (LS980) vs the AT&T G2 (D800)
AT&T - D800
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS 850/1900/2100
LTE 1900(2)/1700(4)/850(5)/700(17)
Sprint - LS980
GSM 850/1900
CDMA 800/850/1900
UMTS 850/1900
LTE 1900(25)/800(26)/2500(41)

That would have been awesome, I don't understand why everybody charges $100 more unless Google really is taking a hit on each one they sell.
Glad you got them to price match, they wouldn't budge for me. Brought them a few receipts where other people did it, brought them the price printed. They just kept telling me it's not the same phone, got to the point where I was just tired of wasting my time with them and didn't want to wait on the Play Store so I just got it at full price.

I don't think Google is necessarily taking a hit but I do think they are selling them just slightly above cost. You have to remember that Google isnt a electronic sales company like Apple, they make all of their profits from there data mining and advertising business. Android is just another medium to collect data and deliver ads. So they could give these away for free and still benefit. However companies like best buy and sprint make their money off of retail sales and cell phone plans. So they are trying to maximize profits that way.
Anyways bummer that they didn't match for you. I guess I just got luck. I walked in not feeling to confident with my play store ad. They were cool but hesitant. After the guy asked his manager he said that they normally wouldn't match the play store but were will to make an exception.
I am in the same boat but for T Mobile. Anyone know if this phone will work for T Mobile as well? I would believe so but I want to make especially if BB is going to charge me an activation fee.
