[Links Down For Updates] [MOD] CM DSP Manager Patch For PowerAMP & PlayerPRO - Nexus 7 Android Development

Hello all, as a new user of XDA I want to contribute to the Nexus 7, So today I would love to share this patch with all of you. And also I would like to take the time to say thanks to all of the DEVs that work hard to give the public their amazing ROMs.
Info:
I have been searching for months on how to fix the ICS and JB DSP Manager so it will work with music apps like PowerAMP and PlayerPRO, Well recently I have finally finished my project of hacking the DSP Manager to work with those apps, so I am now sharing it with all of you and the patch is compatible with every ROM even if the DSP Manager is not natively installed on your ROM. This patch as only been tested with the latest versions of PowerAMP and PlayerPRO, so if you use another music app please test and tell me how it goes. Lastly if for any reason you are unable to get my patch to work please post questions here and I will help you as best as I can.
Enjoy my patch!
When Using This Patch:
Make sure that all other equalizers and audio managers are disabled and with PowerAMP specifically make sure the setting Direct ROM Volume Control is disabled
Bugs:
All:
The DSP Service sometimes closes without warning
Work Around:
Keep the DSP Manager App open in the background
Downloads:
4.1.2 ROMs
4.2.1 ROMs

Really :\ I've been searching forever and I didn't find one...

I was going to try this to see if it would get DSP Manager to work with GoneMad Music Player by some odd chance, and I get the 'failed' error while flashing. I am using TWRP and running Dirty Rombox. I made sure I used the correct file, so might you have an idea as to what is wrong?

It's the zip I forgot that I used Amend Scripting for all of the zips that I made because I have an Optimus S that I also use this patch with and Amend scripting is not comatible with these recoveries, I will fix it and the new download should be up soon

The downloads are fixed and should now flash correctly, and thanks for letting me know so I could fix it, also if you have anymore issues let me know and I'll help as best I can

Alright, it flashed this time
So using GoneMad with it's own EQ turned off and set to use the default Android EQ (DSP Manager I'd assume), I tried listening to some songs again, that I had played before. I noticed some improvement in the songs sounding closer to how they should with DSP Manager, but not quite the same as they sound played by Apollo. I thought it was kind of strange that it only "sort of" worked, so I'm willing to believe it may have been placebo effect in my mind. I will try this with VLC next, as that's another player I've wanted DSP Manager effects to work with.
By the way, my ROM came with KingBeatz... Since it's DSP Manager with some stuff added in, I thought this (your mod) would work the same as with normal DSP Manager. Could this be an issue?

Re: [MOD] CM DSP Manager Patch For PowerAMP & PlayerPRO
I don't know if it is an issue but if it is still installed just make sure you disable it and I just now messed around with gone mad and it seems you have to toggle using the equalizer on there but I did manage to her the full DSP effects to work so just mess around with it and open DSP manager and toggle stuff on and off
Sent Via Nexus 7

Alright, it's working just fine now. Playing a song in GoneMad sounds exactly the same as playing it in Apollo. Thank you!

I just tested this and to get the best results if you are using PowerAMP install the latest verion of DSP Manager and it's drivers (I will have a flashable zip up soon) and have the least distortion in the sound I set the following options:
Replay Gain: both options set to -12.0db
Replay Gain: Enable apply and prevent clipping to peak
Equalizer: Flat
Equalizer: Enable
Limit: Enable

Pls help.

Re: [MOD] CM DSP Manager Patch For PowerAMP & PlayerPRO
Hmm, that's odd, I'll look into it... Try downloading poweramp build 521 instead of 519, also you might be having this problem because these new versions haven't been officially released and are probably still a WIP

In your opinion, how would you compare the sound from Acid versus DSP Manager?
I prefer DSP Manager over pure Poweramp as DSP sounds cleaner, wider, with better dynamic range. My only issue for now is I have random skipping from DSP Manager, which also happens with Cyanogen's Apollo player, so I know its not Poweramp but DSP Manager.

Re: [MOD] CM DSP Manager Patch For PowerAMP & PlayerPRO
You might have to try a different ROM and also acid is only an audio manager it has sound enhancing features but it doesn't have an equalizer so you can use it with the DSP manager

Inbuilt EQ? Does this matter since we have DSP Manager? I don't think so. A argument for the stock music player is the nice integration into the statusbar, but the rest of the UI in my sight is horrible. It isn't even compatible with changed LCD Density. I feel much more comfortable with the Google Music UI. But that is a personal opinion and thus we can't say this, or stock music, or what else is better.
I've attached the newer version of google music. Extract and simply install. No need to push it anywhere.
EDIT: Upload doesn't work. Everytime the forum says "Upload failed." I'll try later
EDIT2: Upload succeded. P.S. I had two apks when I looked into my download folder one with version 4.0.9.509 and one unnamed that was actually newer: Version 4.1.511
@ taraen
ya...u are right. It depends upon personal opinion but I have opbserved very cleanly that definitely default music player's inbuilt equilizer is really better than any other equilizer that we install in our phone. I usually set this combination in my default music player
euilizer- classic
sound effect- wide
On this combination if u listen music then its really awsome. I tried so many different equilizers but no one matched sound qulity that I got from default music player with above settings.
Edit:
I tried most famous power amp music player. It is really better but not best as compared to default music player in terms of equilizer sound quality.

Headphones which we got with our handset.
I have tried around with your settings. They sound good, but hence they don't have any bass they don't fit my taste of music. I simply don't manage to get some bass out of these earphones without making everything sound muffled / dull / how_you_ever_want_to_describe_it

Sorry for not being that precise. I know DSP Manager, and I'm using it with Google Music. With that I don't have any Problems. But as vishal24387 posted his EQ settings with the stock music player EQ I tried again to find some settings that fit my taste of music.
Well!!!so good!

Cyanogens DSP Manager for ALL Roms/Stock

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795233
Just did some searching and found this.
It's cyanogens DSP Manager and in my honest opinion, the best equalizer out there, it's a must have.
all you do is download the APK(don't download the zip) and install it and just tweak the settings afterwards.
Kind if works, bass does nothing but equalizer works perfectly, suprised this works without a library
Cool maybe its possible to get the gesture lock from cm7 too.

i'd love to have a flashable zip,too...
It doesn't work for AOSP either...

same here looking all over
Here you go...
Ok guys worked on this for a few days and got DSPManager v1.0 (not new ICS) working on Cleanrom for EVO 3D CDMA. Our phones are similar and this should work for yours but as with anything I need testers. All this .zip does is install the app, the .so lib file and a configuration file.....please test for me and report back!
WARNING: You may lose effects in HTC Music player as a side effect of installation. My music player force closed after I got DSP working each time I selected the enhancements menu...although the music keeps playing and you can open the music player again and do whatever else you just can't select the stock HTC sound enhancements...just a warning.
1- Don't forget that DSP manager is developed especialy for Google music player. A lot of other players have they own equalizer or won't work with DSP anyway.
2- For info : By the way, i also tested "equalizer" (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer&hl=fr)
On my remember, it worked well with HTC music.
Yes, DSP will work with the HTC player. As mentioned, though, it will only work if the built in equalizer settings are turned off...

[MOD] DSP Library Fix (CM10.x) for PowerAMP, Winamp and Others (Update)

- Since a long time i didn't post anything, i'm proud to present today a little work for all who need getting DSP Manager or "Equalizer" (from Google Play) working with PowerAMP or any other players in Google Play.
- Originally designed for Galaxy Nexus CM10.x builds, and now will works on any rooted device with 4.x.x Android OS !
My settings are like this :
==================
* DSP Manager (Headset mode and Bluetooth device) >
.Dynamic Range Compression : disabled
.Bass Boost : enabled (moderate)
.Equalizer : enabled > 0 to all except "16K frequency" (+6)
.Virtual Room Effect : what you want
* PowerAMP >
.Bass : in the middle
.Treble : maximum
.Equalizer : untouched (Flat)
.Direct Volume Control : unchecked (PowerAMP>Settings>Audio>Advanced Tweaks)
- If you prefer using Apollo (CM10.x), disable the DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) from DSP Manager menu.
This is it !
Is there a significant quality change when using it with PowerAmp?

Quality I couldn't tell a difference, but it gives some nice effects. The EQ seems very smooth.

Thank you so much for bravely bringing up this issue, marouane. I can confirm that DSP Manager stopped working since CM10 for any other app than Apollo. On the official CM10.1 nightlies thread, members confirmed that Google Play Music works. I use JetAudio and I am quite attached to its sound signature together with DSP Manager, and I can't have it any other way.
Also, your DSP Library Fix did not work for the latest CM10.1 nightly and the latest stable version of CM10 ): If you don't mind, I hope you can find a way to make your fix compatible with the latest nightlies. Thank you.

[Q] Music FX and DSP Managers

I have never used the eq or dsp manager on any 4.2.2 builds. I'm running slim build 4, and I don't know how to get to an eq. I ended up installing the viper audio mod. Which installed fine, I just need to read the directions on getting it to work with apollo and or playerpro.
What DSP manager are you guys using? Back on CM7 I used to use either the built in DSP manager in settings, or Volume+.
What is MusicFX and what does it do. How do I get the eq working in apollo?
Thanks for any assistance or advice.
In my experience MusicFX works only with the Samsung player and can't be used with other players. For the DSP , I would not use it cause a lot of times you'd get echo in phone calls, again my experience. I also use Volume+ which I find works well on any build of android. DSP is a very good app unfortunately as I mentioned a lot of people had the echoing on the phone while in a call if you can live with it then use it. Am on TW rom now but I did try CM10 and AOKP unfortunately never had luck with DSP.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
For viper will have to put it in safe mode to get it to work on Apollo.
