[Q] No words to describe my problem... - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Hi
At first I'm writing this thread for one of my friend but his english is not so fluent... not mine too
Here is the situation:
He received a Samsung SL i9003 to repare it. (bootloop)
He flashed a stock ROM (KPE) with a PIT file but he had FC and the user datas are still here (pictures, applications and so on).
Then he installed a file manager to uninstall some apps manually. Good.
But when he rebooted the phone, the applications are still there!!! That's strange because he had the menu for the main configuration (language, google account... at the begining).
He also did a Wipe data / Factory, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and format /system before flashing KPE rom again... Nothing better except the following message: "KERNEL PANIC UPLOAD MODE".
Attached are several screenshots from his stock recovery, parameters menu and list of applications.
I don't know why he still have user datas even with un wipe data and format system...
Is it possible that an i9000 ROM has been flashed before on this phone and has created dysfunctions???
Thanks a lot!

Do a full factory reset and then dont boot the device then flash xxkpe firmware with pit file again and then dont boot the device and then again go into the download mode and flash the latest 2.3.6 firmware of your region

inorder to uninstall system apps u should hav root acces.. flash compatible cf root using odin.. then using any root explorer goto system/apps n delete whichver app u want..
cf root:

I know that and he already deleted some apps with Root Explorer but as he said, the applications come back after a reboot...
Here is what he told me:
"I have uninstalled applications with Titanium Backup then the phone reboots on its own. At boot, there were no nore Titanium Backup neither Root Explorer and all apps previously uninstalled came back."
Moreover all personal apps shouldn't be installed on the phone after the flash of KPE Rom with pit file. In my point of view this could not be possible! That's why I posted here.
This morning I suggested him to install CWM recovery and only format data partition.
I think he could also format system partition and flash a stock rom. The apps shouldn't come back after this process... That's really strange!

Hmm .. I am unable to understand this. If you did flash xxkpe including pit file, it shouldn't keep any data. It should wipe your phone clean. Can you remove your external memory card and redo the flash with xxkpe including the pit file as per Misledz guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787.
Don't add your google account and see if you still see those apps.
Basically, remove your sd card, flash xxkpe(with pit), reboot phone ... dont add google account .. and see if you still see those apps. Post your results here.
Strange !

Yes I'm really septic too. I never see this problem before and for me it's not possible but...
I already asked him to do these steps (extsdcard removed, no google account...). I'll have a feedback this afternoon normally.

So without external sd card:
- CWM recovery installed
=> full wipe + format /data and /system
- flash KPE rom with pit file
- google and samsung account not recorded
=> applications are still here!!!

Which applications? Hope you're not talking about samsung apps. Did he remove the external sd card?

No ALL apps... He removed the extsdcard before wiping and flashing KPE.
Even with full wipe, format /data and /system... He will prepare a video to show me what he did.
I don't have any other solution.

Need help in ext4 conversion

Hi this is what i've tried for hours and still doesn't work. :
Flash XXKPE
Flash XXKPH
Flash CFROOT with custom kernel from skin1980
In CWM Recovery mode :
-Backup
-Install ext4 conversion script
and this is where I get a problem, I try to restore but it keeps saying MD5 mismatch, I've done the whole process again and did a backup with a different name "1" and it still doesn't work !
Thanks for your help
How large is the external SD card? I've had this message with having insufficient space on the external SD and I thought that the backup was successfully made.

Well 32 gb is fine I guess
It is fine. Flash everything again. KPH and CFROOT 09-05-2011. Then do the same process then report to this thread.
BTW, you used the latona pit file on the first flash right? for KPE I mean. Also, try to use the stock kernel with CFROOT first. Don't use the OC kernel just to rule out some gremlins that may cause errors.

I just flashed KPH and the CFROOT stock, did a backup with CWM then installed the ext 4 script in recovery mode, tried to recover ... AGAIN ****ing MD5 mismatch
I think i'm gonna give up this is pissing me off I flashed like 15 times and lost all my data I need to restore...
Wait, do you restart after you flash the ext4 zip then go to recov mode again to restore?
Also, take everything out of your sd card and just retain the ext4.zip and whatever cwm flash zips u need.
Still doesn't work even with restarting and I can't boot since it's stuck on samsung screen T.T

This happend to me before, it causing of fw download corrupted. redownload fw again.
Do not restart after applying the zip and just restore the nandroid backup.
My first attempts were without restarting as told by many posts from others
HI
I agree that you need to redownload All ROM + CF Root
flash ROM, then make sure ROM is OK
Hardware reset
then install CF-Root
make sure All fine then.
full NANDROID BAckup
reboot
then i wish you luck in EXT4
GoodLuck
I faced the same problem a few times, but haven't found the root cause. I have some theories though:
Md5 mismatch means something caused your Nandroid backup to get corrupted.
Do not touch the folder in which the backup is placed.
Do not rename anything.
Do not move the folder or it's contents.
Do not clear the cache in CWM recovery mode.
Format your external SD card once through the settings menu in the phone.
Don't use the windows (or any) chkdsk (error checker) on the SD cards.
Again these are just theories, haven't really found the cause of this error.

How to check if file system is ext4???
@Cix: usually a quadrant benchmark is a good indication of that.
To definitively confirm, use adb shell :
Look up the thread on ext4 conversion and read some of the comments. Or better yet, use the search tool.

[Q] apps on my sl force closes and data does not get formatted please help

my galaxy sl does not get formatted and system apps and downloaded apps force closes i have tried wiping data, cache and dalvik cache but the problem is not solved.i have even tried flashing xxkpe and then ddkp3 but its of no use.the problem is not getting solved.i have even tried to flash cm9 and remi ics trough cwm but its gives me the message Encryption unsucessful.please help somebody.i have searched on xda but didnot find any such problem so started a new thread.please help
what do you mean not formatted? Was it the sd card? If flashing a stock rom does not solv the problem "i think" its your sd card which causes the problem. HAve you tried it on different sd card?
by saying not formatted i mean that all the apps which were available before flashing and wiping data remains and i have i tried flashing it without a sd card.so i dont think it is sd card which is causing the problem.can u tell me when do i get a message "Encryption unsucessful" when flashing remics or cm9.
try the below may help you. but you will lost all your data
flash Universal CF-ROOT by amit
reboot into revovery
mount and storage - mount all the partition.
format /data
foramt /dbdata
format /cache
format /system
do not reboot
in advance - reboot download mode
than flash pit file
than flash XXKPE by odin
manual reboot one time
than factory reset
see is you problem solved.
No good bro, the problem is still exist. i faced it too
After flashing stock ROM it says "failed to mount /data (invalid arguments)" and bootloop
@chongns i did all the steps u told properly but still the problem exists.the apps force closes and the data is still not wiped.please provide another solution.
Hi bors if this way not able to slove ur guys problem, than i think ur problem is come from the hardware. Either go to service center or try to make partition in the ext sdcard. Check the thread regarding this problem in here. Follow them.

@chongns how to make partition in ext sd card and will it solve my problem.
i forgot to mention one thing that before this problem occured my sl was on rooted ddkp3 and i had swapped internal memory with external memory card.but the problem occured when in clockworkmod recovery i touched the "fix permissions" option.and the apps which are not getting formatted are on the phone memory.please help i am getting force close on apps freqently and the data is not wiped.please help

@chongns u suggested to format data, cache, dalvik cache and system but there was one more option in mounts and storage (i.e.mount emmc and format emmc)should i have formatted that emmc also.and what was imp of the post u sugested before.
i also formated emmc but its of no use the apps are still force closing and data is not getting wiped.
sometimes after flashing and using the mobile for a while sometimes it goes into kernel upload panic mode.what is kernel panic upload mode and what causes it and how can i not get such a message.please help
i also tried to install miui v4 but it gives the same problem as as remics and cm9 it shows "Encryption unsuccessful"
I would said u having the partition corrupted. So it is wise send it service center than you corrupt it more further

it have similar problem with you, you can have a look
after flashing value pack update for india it shows
E:failed to mount /data(No such file or directory) what does it mean and how to make it usable it is not working.please help
Are u facing a random reboot then you get to 'encryption unsuccessful' screen? Then a reboot would get you back to normal state? I solved this by flashing the value pack via mobile odin pro with ever root. I flashed the latest one by prezket

[Q] Ooops - Tab's funked. Help!

P6800 running Zeta
I was browsing facebook the other night when... shaboom - everything froze. No biggie I thought, I'll just do a little reset (I was getting a few FCs here and there anyway lately) and I'll be good to go...
NOPE. It started bootlooping at the initial Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 screen. I'm able to enter CWM recovery and even wipe the cache and flash ZIP files, but when I try to wipe data/factory reset, wipe the Dalvik cache or restore a Nandroid backupI get a System Error. It doesn't look good.
Is there a way to fix my seemingly funked /system without losing all my internal SD card data (where my Titanium backups reside) or to recover it before a full Odin flash?
Just tried again - it reboots and goes into a loop when I try to wipe data and dalvik, and when I try to restore a previous backup it gives me "Error while restoring /system!"
Any help greatly appreciated before it becomes a $600 door stop
Do you dare to wipe the system folder and follow by flashing another ROM?

Do you mean via Odin? Will I lose the data on my internal SD card by doing that? Is there any way of mounting the device in its current state as external storage on my PC to copy all data before a wipe?
ZhenMing: I'm not sure what you mean, but as I wrote above I am not able to wipe the system folder.
yes you will loose your data... i can give you another advice... but do this one carefully... the reason why your device cant wipe any /system or /data is because the corrupted partition... you need to check it... follow the guide in this thread...
USE ONLY PART 3... follow the guide start from this para to check your device...
Code:
Now we are going to use e2fsck to check our new partitions for errors, but not only, it also fixes some erros and it will even for example create lost & found in /data
So let's go, we'll begin with /system. If you're still in the (parted) shell, use ctrl+c and type "adb shell", then issue the following :

Since you can go into cwm, you can mount your storage and then connect to PC to copy all you want.

But won't it downsize the int sd size, if OP tab still under warranty, better to get it fix by samsung for free and not lost any space.
Just reading the 1st post of the ZETA rom thread.
He says he is using stock Kernel.
He says every 5 lines, that you should full wipe...
without giving any sort of warning that it will eventually brick your device.

Tried that one, but it won't mount unfortunately. The external will no problem, but when I try with the internal it just... well it does nothing. It's a bummer cause all my most recent backups are on the internal. Any other way of retrieving my data short of extracting the chip?
Giving it back to Samsung sounds like the best option, but I'm worried cause it has a custom ROM and it's rooted. Anyone has experience doing that?
Also I thought full wipes were good, but you're saying they eventually brick the device? How come? I thought having a custom recovery meant it would be virtually impossible to brick my device... and the weird thing is that it happened during normal usage, not while flashing.
Anyway, my priority is obviously to get my tab working again, but retrieving my internal data is second highest. Isn't there a flashable ZIP that would copy the contents of the internal SD into an external SD card? Surely this has happened to someone before me?
Thanks for all the answers, really appreciated!

Gotcha! Will try that one and post result - thanks!
how did your partition check go?
i'm annoyed that some partitions can be corrupted randomly even doing some mundane stuffs
even on stock ICS fw, i encountered DATA corruption by just deleting a contact
i guess you have softbrick..
here is what i did:
-flash stock Honeycomb firmware using Odin
-forced tablet into stock recovery mode
-wipe Cache/Data/Factory Reset
- reboot
when your tab is working again you could backup files from your internal EMMC and you could flash ROMS from there

Thanks for that. I haven't tried anything yet as I'm away till Weds, but I will then and let you know. So you're saying by flashing stock HC via Odin and wiping/resetting everything through stock recovery I won't lose my internal storage data?
that's what i experienced..but i could not guarantee that it will be the same for your device
i noticed that because old folder are not deleted when i rebooted, but i haven't checked if the system folders are cleared
to have a clean reflash i also format/sdcard on recovery..but don't do this on stocl ICS recovery since you might risk increasing the damage
try to format via odin the Honeycomb fw first [don't put PIT file neither enable Repartion, just normal flash]
then force it to enter recovery mode when it bootloops after reset
you might fix your device this way if it has softbrick
just resort to using PIT/repartition as your last option
Again I would not recommend repartition when tab still under warranty. Repartition the last resort only if the tab is without warranty after failing all other alternatives.

[solved] [Q] Flashing the stock firmware again

Hello everyone,
I have a Galaxy R and to get root access, I just flashed ARDATDAT's kernel, but via Odin, without installing CWM. Later I found out that the method is obsolete, and now I have the yellow triangle in my boot screen. Later, I installed CWM also.
Now, I am not able to get the official ICS update because of that. The phone settings -> about phone show the following :
Model Number - GT-I9103
Android Verison - 2.3.5
Baseband version - I9103DDKH4
Kernel Version - [email protected] #76
Build number - GINGERBREADXWKI5
I want to flash the stock firmware again in order to get the ICS update. I downloaded the stock firmware for my phone (I am not sure if I have downloaded the correct firmware, It'll be helpful if some of you Gurus confirm that... )
from this page :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861359 : the firmware I downloaded says :
Android Version: 2.3.5
Country: India
Region: Europe
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 17th September 2011
PDA: XWKI5
Modem: DDKH4
CSC: ODDKH4
Is this the correct firmware? I live in India, and the XWKI5 also matches with the build number in my phone settings, so I downloaded this.
Now, In the guide to flash stock firmware on xda here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406664 , it is shown that volume down + home button + power button will make the device enter download mode. However, after trying a lot of times, it is not happening. Is it because I installed CWM? I have also installed CWM app on phone. When I choose enter download mode from that, after reboot, my cell just shows the first screen shown in the tutorial, saying "Downloading... Do no turn off target !!" After that, none of the volume up/down/home/power key presses seem to have any effect. I have to reboot the cell to normal mode after long pressing the power key...
I want to go to the next screen of showing 'Warning!! A custom OS can...." but that screen doesn't appear at all...
Thank you in advance...
You downloaded the wrong firmware buddy. Here's the link to the Official Indian ICS Stock ROM.
Regarding download mode, make sure that the phone is not connected to PC via usb cable while entering download mode using Vol down + Home + Power.
EDIT: Resetting the download counter/yellow triangle is not easy. I guess you'll have to live with that. Just ignore it.

1. In the method you are using to get "Downloading..do not turn off target" screen is actually download mode itself.
NO WARNING PAGE WILL COME, SO PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY AND RESTART YOUR PHONE.
Just insert the USB cable and start flashing via odin.
2. You dont need to press any volume up key to continue or anything to see that Warning page. Because warnings are only given beforehand and not after you have automatically continued.
And FYI the key pressing thing to continue after the warning page will lead you to this screen only
3. As far as you are concerned with the REGULAR WAY of entering the download mode...
WHICH WILL SHOW YOU THE WARNING PAGE AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PRESS VOLUME UP KEY TO CONTINUE...
4. For getting in the download mode in the normal way LONG press the "volume down+home+power button" you will be able to enter it.
5. CWM has nothing to do with the download mode..so relax..nothing got corrupt because indirect way of entering download mode is working.
So enter the download mode by any of the ways aboveand start flashing.
6. Buddy ICS is android version 4.0.4, download any version, preferable XWLP2 Poland rom, because it is the most updated one and the latest one too.
7. You dont need to download Gingerbread (android version 2.3.5) in order to get the official ICS update. XDA has the list of official firmwares for a download and flash procedure
So download any android version 4.0.4 official firmware!!!![

Thanks a lot DeepankarS, the post really helped clear a lot of doubts in my mind, because it feels a bit risky while flashing your phone for the first time..
I will try the ICS stock mod link given above by droidster. I have taken a 'user apps + system data' backup with Titanium backup pro on my external SD. Also, I have backed up my contacts on the same. Is this enough? I have heard that there are things like clearing the cache etc, so will I lose any important data even with backing this much up? Sorry, but just want to clear things before I do any mess...

Cache wont make you lose any data
and yeah this much backup is enough.
And yes do one thing more...
Once you properly install ICS and CWM, Take a CWM backup of your device..
You can never lose your data then (data at that particular point of backup)
So if you have CWM backup, you can freely, without any problems flash any custom rom via CWM.
So even if something goes wrong while flashing a custom rom, you can restore via CWM.
And buddy always remember these things.
1. ODIN (any version) is to be used just for flashing STOCK Roms and CWM.
2. Never Flash a CUSTOM Rom via ODIN (until and unless stated) . It will brick your device. You have CWM to flash stock roms so dont worry.
3. Never factory reset your device while being on stock kernel, it might activate your brick bug.
Just after flashing stock ICS, download eMMC Brick Bug App to check for brick bug, then only proceed with the factory reset part.
4. For any problems, you always have XDA

Thanks a lot! Did not know that ODIN is used only to flash custom ROMs! I have already installed CWM on my phone using ODIN. I had tried to take a backup using CWM, but then I just cant find the backup files. My System storage had got almost full after I took the backup, and I tried to find the backup file, to move it to external SD, but I simply wasn't able to locate it...so freed some storage space by deleting apps. That's why I took a backup via Titanium Backup this time.... Should I try taking a backup via CWM again??

1. Rather saying Thanks Press it he will be happy.
2. ODIN is not for Custom ROM's, It's only for stock ROM's.
3. CWM Backup will be there in extsdcard/clockworkmode/ folder.
4. Titanium backup is good enough but CWM Backup is like restore point in windows if some thing goes wrong we can restore it to previous state using CWM backup...
5. Please don't post the same in multiple place (you have asked the same in Ask you question thread also) this will be consider as Spam.

I searched for the backup files everywhere, but I am unable to find it anywhere on External SD. Whenever I enter CWM recovery mode, I see the list of backups I took in the Backup/Restore menu, But there are no such files in External SD, even after I used ES file explorer and SD Maid...
Sorry for the duplicate post...

Search once in ur Internal SD.. I experienced this once when i took the backup when CWM showed me "Not enough space", it took Internal SD as backup location and it stored everything in Internal SD.. Well, same directory but internal SD.. So look there once, also make sure you have atleast 1.5GB - 2GB free in any of ur SD storage to take CWM backup.. It requires that much of space..

How to change the Backup location to external SD card? I am taking a backup now and it is showing this :
ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.0.2
SD Card space free : 994 MB
Backing up boot image...
Backing up system...
Backing up data...
No /sdcard.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on externam storage.
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...
Backup complete!
I guess the backup will be stored in my /sdcard now....

Buddy that depends on the amount of apps, files and data you have.
So..1.5-2 GB not necessary
Plus selection matters..so..
Why to generalise!!

First of all...thanks a lott for your constant answers and prompt help...
Okay...formatting sdcard means settings->storage->format SD card?? currently the option is disabled...do I first need to unmount it?? Then it will be enabled?? Also, what data will I lose after doing it?? (I know formatting will erase all data on sdcard...but don't know what all data exactly is there on sdcard....is there any possibility of bricking my cell in this ??)

[Q] Partition sd help !

I am new here so don't judge me.
I want more space for my phone to storage more apps. I watched a video wich showed how to partition using rom manager. I did everything right, but when i reboot into recovery i do not have the option "partition sd" i only have like 4 options : instal from sd, wipe cache, factory reset and reboot.
What should I do? Thanks

You are lucky that rom manager did nt hard brick your phone..
NEVER EVER USE ROM MANAGER!!
flash another ROM or u'll have to flash ODIN again with stock rom and then install another ROM.
Hope ua Fit gets FIT again..

You may partition SD with CWM (Clockworkmod Recovery). Make primary partition FAT32 and primary partition ext2, 3 or 4. The best ext4.
You may SD partition and with MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition. Download and install this application.
Tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Connect your phone Galaxy Fit with PC, and open MiniTool partition Wizard Home Edition.
