[Q] Duplicate contacts in People - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Hi All,
This is my first post in xda-developers!!
Having an issue with duplicate contacts. I dont know how it happened but I have my contacts replicated around 5 times in my "People" app. I am using an HTC Explorer modded with Cyanogen 9 mod.
I tried some remove duplicate contacts app from play store but none is of use.
Please help me remove these duplicate contacts.
Thanks,
Starz

Your contacys are synced with google also so it shows two times one google.contact and one on your phone and maybe one on sim
So select the option to select what contacts to show and unselect google/phone try both
Sent from my HTC Explorer using xda app-developers app

If you are on sense rom, use manage option and select de-duplicate contacts from People App.
Common way:
Login to Gmail
Just below Google Icon(Top left) you'll have "Gmail"- Click it and select Contacts.
All Contacts will appear(if you have synced to google account) .
In selection box, select "All"
Then Click on more option and use "Find & merge duplicates..."
It'll remove all duplicates

sign in to your gmail account. On the top left u will see an option GMAIL.click that u see an option contacts.click that your phone contacts which are in sync with gmail will open.click find and merge contacts (seen under MORE option).
also sync ur phone contacts with gmail account.all the duplicate contact will automatically gone.click thanks if this hel:goods

Contacts sync with google doesn't seem to be working

I have sync enabled with my google account. I can get my gmail contacts on my phone. However, I do not see my phone contacts when I go to my gmail account.
What am I doing wrong? My contacts from my phone should show up in my gmail contacts right?

Hmmmm... I just checked my gmail and it does display my contacts... an obvious question but do you see the google "g" next to all of your contacts??

See if this helps. When in Contacts, tap the (hardware key) Menu and tap Display options. See if Phone and/or Sim is checked. That toggles the display of additional contacts saved in the Phone and SIM memory.
Scratch that. I think you want your phone and/or SIM contacts to show up in your Google Account on your PC right? I don't know how to do that... Sorry, I'm not so helpful after all.

in my contacts, on the phone, I see some contacts that have a "g" next to them. These equate to the ones on my gmail account's contact list. Most of them do not display the "g" though.

You're right, I want all of my On-Phone contacts to be sync'd into my Gmail.com contacts list on my pc. and any help is helpful
Your phone\sim contacts will not automatically move to google's contacts online. You have to move them manually. Here is what I did to move my contacts up there:
1. In contacts, under settings, go to Display Options and uncheck the option to show your google contacts. You will turn this back on later. For now, you just need to see the contacts that you want to move to Google.
2. Under settings, go to More and then Import\Export. Then choose to export to SD card. This will create a file on your SD card with your contacts in it. Make note of the location of the file. It will likely be the sd folder and a file called 00001.vcf
3. Exit the contacts app and go to the my files application. Find the file from step #2 and long press it. In the menu that comes up, select Share and then email it to yourself.
4. Now you should be able to get to the file on your computer by downloading it from your email.
(Alternatively if your phone is hooked up to your computer you could just find the file on it and copy it to your computer)
5. Go to google.com/contacts and import the vcf file. They will now be on Google and if you have contact sync on they will get pushed to your phone. I had some duplication between names on my phone and names I had in google so I had to spend some time merging and cleaning them up.
6. In the contacts app on your phone, undo what you did in step #1 by going to display options and checking Google. You will now see all of those contacts with a "g" beside them.
Note - this does mean that your contacts will show multiple times on your phone if your display options have it showing Phone, SIM, and google contacts. I ended up going in and removing all contacts from my phone and SIM card to resolve this. The captivate does try to link similar contacts together it may not bother you. I just decided I wanted all of my contacts in one place and nowhere else.
d'oh you beat me to it. I was doing a test myself to see if it works. It sure does and when I was about to post the instructions, there it was, yours. I couldn't have done a better job.
Nice! This will work.
However, I am quite disappointed that I can't just sync my phone contacts to my google account. It's one of the things I miss coming from WinMo using Microsoft MyPhone.
... you would figure with everything this phone does a simple task such as synching with your gmail account would be a no-brainer in the droid world.
Well.. nothing is perfect.
Thanks for this! I was looking for a way to do it and couldn't figure it out but never got around to asking
Yeah I agree, its kinda bs that they won't just sync. I use "uia back contacts" from the market. Works great with dropbox.

I know this is old topic, but I have a question about the procedure described previously for getting contacts into google...
What about in the future...if I add a new contact on the phone, will it then automatically sync up to google, or do I have to do this whole process again?

Facebook for sense contact problem

Even though i quickly unselect facebook for HTC to sync contacts, it does it anyway.
Am i the only one with this problem ?
I know i can unselect facebook contacts under the people tap, but i want them gone from the dialer.
Yeah it happens to me also. Even when i uncheck it the contacts sync anyways and when i go back to the htc facebook Sync options sometimes it shows its still checked.

There's two ways for the contacts to get there: the integrated facebook for sense & the app in the market. if you want to get rid of the contacts make sure to uncheck the sync & then go to Settings>Applications>Manage & delete the data for Contacts Storage. This will delete all of your contacts on the phone. Then just resync with what you want.
Tried that.. same problem.. still showing in the dialer..
There's no way to get rid of them. I tried everything. The dialer will show all of your facebook contacts that have phone numbers regardless of whether you uncheck the option to display them.
Unchecking that option removes them from showing in your Contacts app, but they will still show in the Dialer app.

I had that same problem but I solved it. I don't remember exactly what I did but try running set-up again and don't sync Facebook for sense or something like that. Don't be such in hurry to finish set-up. Read it carefully before you press anything
I've unsynced them in "accts and sync" as well as in the contacts app I've changed the "view" to only display gmail contacts. but after a reboot they always come back as synced....I HATE HTC SENSE and it's annoying when I am using gmail to send and email, I start typing the email address of a contact and it displays contacts from facebook that I have never emailed in my life also the dialer app shows pics from facebook rather than the default pic that I have for my contacts
guess I'm not the only one with this problem after all

Where did you put your Facebook credentials? The HTC Facebook app or the official Android Market Facebook app?
Tried Both....

Go into those contacts and unlink them. You just tap the little chain link in the upper right. That will get your default pictures back. Also sense keeps all of your most frequently used contacts at the top in the dialer.
I love sense because its way more intuitive than stock gingerbread in regards to your dialer and contacts. For instance in the dialer you type the letters for a contact name and it pulls them up. No scrolling through to find contacts.

How to remove contacts-number when not the option is there?

Hi!
Yes this is for real
I have ONE of my contacts (what i think is) Skype NUMBER, not her name just the number and i have 26 of them. Non of them are editable or erasable.
When i'm trying to text her i just get this number to text to. I can't add a picture to it, i can't remove it i can't do nothing to it... What has happened?
I'm getting crazy here, please help
I think that might help:
- go to your list of contacts
- press Menu button, then choose View
- uncheck Facebook contacts to be visible on your contact list
Let know if it helped.
Yes, now I don't have see the number in my contacts. But, when texting the contact still gives me this number and no contact pic.

I don't have stock rom on my Sensation right now but I'm guessing that you need to unsync Facebook contacts.
Try to go to Settings, then Accounts & Sync, find Facebook account, then uncheck Sync contacts (or in more extreme way - delete Facebook account from your mobile). I hope this will help you this time.

Gmail my contact syncing problem

Hi you guys,
I've just moved from Blackberry to Android HTC Chacha and I face with problem with syncing my contact stored in Gmail.
When I do the syncing from Gmail to HTC Chacha, it syncs not only My Contacts (only phone number) but also all the email addresses which I sent email to.
My phone contact in Gmail is nearly 300 but the contacts stored in the phone now become > 900 contacts.
I do some searches and find one solution:
- Go to people -> menu -> view -> Google -> tick only My Contacts.
Now when I view contact (people) i see only the contact with phone number. But when I do the search for a contact, it appears the results of email addresses too.
Could you guys plzz help me on that
Ah after awhile I found a way to solve this trouble.
Sol. 1: If you just want to see & use the phone contact in the mobile phone; all you have to do:
- Open people app (contact).
- Press Menu key then View.
- In Google menu, untick all except for Ungrouped Contacts
- Then back, press menu key, delete -> delete all.
(Don't know whether when you do the sync again the email addresses will bump to you phone again).
Sol. 2: (what I myself used):
- Open gmail
- Choose contact function
- In the contact list, choose Other Contacts. Then just delete all the contacts (email addresses) here.
- Delete all the contact in mobile phone, then do syncing.
Some ppl suggest that we may choose which list to be viewed from the people app (press menu -> view). But actually it is nonsense. Even though what we see is the phone contacts only, but when do the search for certain contact; the email address appears
great ways

I think you're just going to have to manually delete duplicates the first time. After that, there shouldn't be any issues with duplicate entrees. I've only had that issue when I put contacts on my phone first and then synced with Gmail after.
That's just based on some of my experience. So anybody, correct me if I am wrong.

[Q] Contacts to Display

When I choose which contacts to display the phone doesn't seem to save them. I just want the phone to display my contacts from my Google account. I choose my Google account and press OK. Then when I go back to the contacts screen my Google contacts are showing. When I leave the contacts page and go back in, it displays all my contacts from all the accounts I have on the phone. I then have to repeat the process again.
If I choose Contacts to display > Customize > the choose my Google account, the contacts appear, but once I leave the contacts page and return all the contacts from all my accounts are showing. The accounts I have are WhatsApp, Corporate and Google.
I am using the Go Launcher and I am rooted. Can anyone help?
Can anyone help with this?
I am trying to display only the contacts with phone numbers. When I customise the contacts to display it works, but once i close the contacts and open it again it displays all the conatcts from all accounts.

What should I be looking for here?

I have disabled the contact sync on the Whatsapp account and on the Corporate account, but the problem still occurs.
I have gone into the contacts app > accounts and turned off auto-sync app data, but that does not work either.
No matter what accounts I choose to display, it always defaults back to All contacts.

Deleting Whatsapp and Corporate contacts from Contacts app should solve it.
(actually this is the procedure to remove Facebook contacts)

Sorry for being stupid, but how do I remove these accounts from the Contacts app? When I try to remove the account from the settings menu I got the following message: "Removing this account will delete all of its messages, contacts and other data from the phone".
I don't want to remove the contacts from my phone. I just want them to not display on the contacts app. You could do this easily on the Galaxy S2.
Thanks for your help.

I've installed Whatsapp (I don't use it) and Contacts are linked to Contacts app so you can't delete them.
Maybe the app resets the custom display when you close it

That is what seems to be happening. The contact app seems to resetting my custom display whenever I close it. Then it will show the contacts from all of my accounts on the phone.

I now have Whatsapp so I was able to make some tests and on my end the Contact app keeps my choice and only displays my Whatsapp contacts in the list, even after leaving the app.
Try to clear all data of your data.
I have deleted the data from the Contacts app and the Contacts storage app in the Settings of the phone. The phone now displays contacts from my Google account and Whatsapp account, but it still resets to show All contacts when the app is closed even when I choose which account to display.
What I have now is better than what I previously had as it does not display the contacts from my corporate account, so I am grateful for that.
I tried a factory reset to fix this, but it still didn't work correctly. I also noticed that all of my contacts were joined to other contacts. I've had to go into each contact manually and separate them and then join them back to the correct contact. A major hassle. I've never had this problem before.
I know this is an old thread, but I found the same problem today and I think it could be useful for people facing this issue.
The problem is the Go Launcher contacts icon on the dock. If you replace it with the contacts app it will remember your contacts to display preference.
It seems to be some difference between Go Launcher's phone and contacts and the system phone and contacts apps.
