Hello,
Does anyone have suggestions for what they feel is the best settings to have a good note taking experience on the note 10.1?
Much appreciation!
What I do with LectureNotes is:
- enable GMD Gesture Control, Hide Status bar command
- Use spen button button for eraser
- pen toolbox enabled for easy color change
These 3 for me are the essentials
Thank you! Especially the eraser part. Anymore suggestions are very welcome.

Where is the gmd gesture control?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
@gophy: I guess you have enabled `use stylus (hardware detection)´, haven't you? Most users enable `allow two fingers scrolling´, `allow two fingers zooming´, and `allow double-click zooming´ (some also `allow one finger scrolling´) in the app's input settings. If you observe jagged writing, try to enable the pressure filter with a threshold of 5% or. The other options are mainly a matter of taste.
Does anyone have a settings recommendation for Ruled Pattern and font size?
I keep fiddling with both and at some point down the page(s) my typed text goes below the ruled lines
Thanks in advance!
@Chaz9999: There is no general answer to your question, as the distance between baselines in the text layer is not fixed but can vary due to smaller/larger font size, subscript and superscript, etc.

Thanks for the response Acadoid!
maybe you should also increse the threshold value in the input filter settings.

My spen button isn't working, when click it, nothing happens. Do I have to enable it somehow?
@Calculating Infinity: You need to enable `use stylus button´ in the app's input setting, the function can be assigned in the `stylus button setup´ in the app's handling settings.
Note that Samsung devices do not deliver touch events with stylus button pressed, the system assigns own functionality to that. You need to enable `detect stylus button in hover mode´ in the stylus button setup in the app's handling settings; furthermore, you need to press and release(!) the stylus button close to the display surface but before actually touching the display.
You can now use your finger as erasing tool. Very useful. Just disable one-finger scrolling and enable one-finger erase.
I still feel like I don't have enough writing room. Is there anyway to make it switch to a new page automatically?

Yes. Click
Settings → Input → Use stylus buttons
Then you can configure your button. Therefore click
Settings → Handling → Setup Stylus buttons
You're welcome

@gophy: Automatically in which sense? Several of the scroll mechanism (page forward icon, volume keys, mouse wheel) automatically add new pages when needed, also the auto-movement tool or the input zone.

Has anyone seen or is aware of a function on stock ROM called Flicker? If you check out the CQA.apk, when performing a display test, there is a function called Flicker. When you swipe the screen upwards from the bottom of screen it hides the virtual navigation bar, and the same action makes it reappear. If this is a native function built into the system, would it be available to be used at will when using other applications? It would be great to hide the nav bar whenever you want, to open up screen space, with a simple swipe. It would be nice if a dev with knowledge of compiling could check into this and see if it's a function that can be enabled within the system and not only for the CQA test app (which if I'm not mistaken is for engineers of the Q to test functionality of all hardware on system).

In CM10 you can use 'Expanded desktop' option from power menu (the menu displayed after you hold down the power button) to hide/unhide the virtual navigation bar.
Just make sure that the 'Expanded desktop' item is enabled under Settings>System>Power menu.

Unfortunately I wish to remain stock and still mod my system, no need for cm10 until cdma is functional on it...is there a way to enable that same function on asa14? And still, has anyone heard of "Flicker!?

New Message preview
After receiving a new text message, there's an alert on the lockscreen that reads, "Messages New Message". Anyone else find this practically useless? Is there a way to get that notification to give a preview of the message?
What I've been doing is either tapping on the New Message banner then swiping in the highlighted box below to unlock and go straight to that message. Or I pull down the top panel and tap on the message preview found there. Either works, but seems like extra steps.

okay. I will try it. thanks.
You can create an auto-reject list.
From the Phone App - going into settings (3 dots on the top right) and Settings-> Call -> Call rejection. From there you can set to reject form list and start creating a list of numbers you don't want to hear from.

If you open the messaging app, go to settings, notifications, and at the bottom if you check lockscreen it will show the sender and part of the text instead of just new message. You can also turn on pop up where it shows a pop up message where you can reply to a message without going into the messaging app. Pretty convenient. Hope this helps.

Anyone know of a way to make long pressing the home button on the lock screen turn on flashlight like in the miui rom?
1. long press on the recent apps button while looking at one of your home screens, or long press on the home screen to get your scrren menu then hit "home screen settings" uncheck "my magizine" to get rid of the magazine tab
2. go into camera and hit settings turn off picture stabilization to make the camera much more responsive and get rid of that "please hold still" delay when trying to take pics of moving targets (dogs, kids, etc)
3. until we get root third part apps will NOT save to the external SD card (your camera and some stock apps will, but playlists from 3rd party mp3, back ups from any back up app, 3rd party notepad, 3rd party alarms like smart alarm, etc will not) so be careful that if you need to back something up use dropbox or something like that these third party apps may back up to an emulated storage (still internal storage) so if you factory reset when we actually get root you will still lose everything you thought you saved
4. if someone helped you hit the thanks button, lol
Disable/hide apps you don't use from your app drawer: go to app drawer - long press recents/hit menu button (three vertical dots) - select "Uninstall/Disable Apps"

So I was playing around with the fingerprint scanner and wanted to add more then 3 fingerprints. When I was setting up my thumb, I also swiped my pointer finger. After the set up was complete. I found it let me unlock the phone with both fingers from the one setup. I haven't seen this mentioned yet, so I figured someone out there might find it useful.

Already posted in the fingerprint thread but thought it could be useful here..
What I did was use the 3 allotted different fingerprints and scan my thumb at slightly different angles so I could swipe my thumb horizontally rather than vertically and it works a lot better now.

Thanks!! Just confirmed this worked for me. I was able to use right thumb, left thumb, and index finger on just 1 fingerprint setting.
I am going to copy and paste this info into the thread I made on the Fingerprint Scanner Tips.

HOW DO I HIDE MY NAVIGATION BAR
The best way to hide your navigation bar is with your ROM settings but if your ROM does not support this you can used a Xposed module or you can add qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to your system/build.prop file.
Here is a video on how to edit you build.prop file VIDEO GUIDE
SYSTEMUI CRASHES WHEN I LAUNCH GOOGLE NOW ON TAP
This is a bug with android and google has been notified of this problem. https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=193391
The reason this happens is when you hide your navigation bar with qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 the animation crashes when trying to launch google now on tap.
Luckily there is a hack to get it working, what you will need to do is force the animation to play without using google now on tap and there are a few ways to do this.
If you turn on "OK GOOGLE" detection from any screen or if you use nova launcher/apex launcher/etc... go into settings and turn on "OK GOOGLE" voice activation
then say "OK GOOGLE" and the animation will play, a white border around the edge of your screen.
Once the animation has played google now on tap will start to work.
Warning if you reboot your phone you will need to say "OK GOOGLE" again.
SWIPE NAVIGATION IS NOT WORKING
Screen DPI set to low
One person reported that when they set there DPI from 320 to 260 swipe navigation would not work correctly
SuperSU out dated
Don't forget that SuperSU is still in beta for marshmallow so make sure your up to date
SELinux not allowing Swipe Navigation to inject Events
I'm still not 100% sure why some people are experiencing this problem maybe when SuperSU goes stable for marshmallow this will be fixed but for now here are a few checks you can do:
In advanced settings test other SU contexts
Make sure SuperSu/ROM/Kernel are all up to date
Make sure your ramdisk has been patched correctly modified boot.img by Chainfire
if all fails download SELinuxModeChanger and set your SELinux to permissive If you don't want to set your SELinux to permissive you could downgrade to version 3.0.3 or use without root version

Well i made the app so i would say yes but you would need to try it for your self so you can decide what you like better
I just bught this app for support, good work mate.
I was using free, so here are my impressions/requests:
1) Different color for basic gesture actions (left, center, right, left edge, right edge)
2) Dock settings is a cluttered chaos, no need for so many options. What i would like to see is option for folders or something similar.
Also a 'set to default' option would be nice for values.

i was thinking about adding glowing for different swipes so you can see what one your doing
dock settings well yes its a bit cluttered but i need that many settings if you press the floating button there are some presets you can use
(use a preset as a starting point or just use the way a preset is and pretend there are no settings)
folders would need a full rewrite on how the dock works but i don't want to do that i may make a extension for that you would have to download separately and would work with all other apps
dock has default but settings does not i was thinking about adding some presets for the other settings as well like the dock settings
I was thinking different colors in the bottom bar, for every 'area'
Also, there could be a ' set to default' option in every setting, next to 'cancel' and 'ok'
One other thing that could be configurable, is swipe distance on dock. If i wanna reach apps, there is a lot of distance.
Keep up the good work.
nice

Great app! Was looking for something like this but the swipe back xposed module was never consistent enough ...
some suggestions:
1. the home button is actually what i use the least, there is an option to change the size of the left and right most swipe areas, but can there also be an option to change the size of the center (home) swipe area? this will avoid the "back" and "recent apps" swipe areas being too small when the "search" and "menu" swipe areas are expanded
2. is it possible to add chrome actions (back/forward, next/previous tab, etc.) into the custom action list? it appears possible since the chromepie xposed modules and gesture navigation app have these shortcuts ... that would make chrome navigation a lot more user-friendly

There is currently no way to resize the home button
Back would be just the normal back action
If you go into actions at the bottom is more... Within more is forward
Switching tabs i was not able the find the keycode in the list that does that but
Here is something built into chrome you may not of known about
If you slide your finger across the top url bar it will switch across tabs
But i think this does not work if you have your tabs in recents if you have your tabs in recents then you could use switch to previous app the switch between your last 2 tabs apart from that i dont know

yes, i know about the gesture to swipe tabs in chrome. however it's not that useful a gesture when using the phone one-handed unless you have extra long fingers ...
i tried hard to find the keycode to swipe tabs in chrome too ... even connected to a bt keyboard to see if i could find it. but it's definitely possible since chromepie can do it, maybe it is a combination of keycodes simultaneously?
anyway, great app! got through my first day using it instead of the navbar and it feels very intuitive already
thanks

Was there any real reason to add this feature? Does it actually serve any sort of function?
It brings up Google assistant on my phone.
I use it to wake my phone when it is in my desk and just put in the pin if I just want to check a notification real quick without picking up the phone.

It's so you don't mistakenly wake the phone. But playing around with the display I can't decide if the entire display is pressure sensitive, or it just takes you longer to push hard. But it seems if you push hard on the icons the long press context menu pops up (no tactile feedback).
I changed the sensitivity to the most sensitive in the settings, it doesn't really add any feature but it makes pressing the home button feel a little bit nicer.

Hi,
I want to share with you today - how to trigger one handed mode,
with full screen gestures mode - on, by swiping the bottom of the screen.
So as you know - you can trigger the one handed mode, which is a very useful feature in miui...
by swiping from the home button to one of the other buttons, depending on which side you want to shrink the screen towards.
But if you are like me,
and love the wonderful full screen navigation style...
you don't have navigation buttons, therefore can only use the 'quick ball' to trigger one handed mode, which is not ideal.
This requires no rooting, but will require you to run an adb command on a computer.
Also the apps used are not free.
I will not go into step by step detail because:
1. I'm lazy
2. you need tasker or a similar app compatible with tasker plugins... and I use Automate, which is less common.
So you will need a few (Paid) apps:
1. Gesture control (or similar, but something that allows launching shortcuts)
2. tasker / automate / some other automation app compatible with tasker plugins
3. AutoTools plugin for tasker
Install all those, configure write secure settings permission via adb on a PC as instructed by the plugin (#3)
Once done - create a tasker task that will:
1. use the plugin to change the setting: name= "force_fsg_nav_bar", type= global, value type = int, value = 0
2. wait for a second
3. change the setting back to 1
what this will do is basically show the navigation bar for a second and then hide it again.
Now configure Gesture control app to trigger this tasker task by swiping left or right
you can also tweak around to make it smaller, invisible, customize other gestures & whatever...
(Personally I added 'double tap' to screen off,
'long tap' to launch Native clipboard app,
and 'double tap and hold' to trigger flashlight...)
Done!
You can now swipe the bottom of the screen,
and this will pop up the navbar for 1 sec, so you can swipe again in the desired direction to trigger one handed mode!
Or you can use edge gestures https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.edgegestures which is imo the best gestures app out there, OR
Navigation gestures by XDA https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar its free! Oh, and it is much simpler to use this apps than your ways. No tasker or whatever is required

Yes, you definitely can, the gesture app is not what matters here.
What matters is that no app can trigger MIUI's one handed mode (there is xda's one handed mode but it's buggy...)
That is why you need to pop up the navbar-> and that is why tasker + a plugin is required.
I tried but unfortunally its not as fluid as miui :/
I cant stand the delay to trigger the commands and the animations are ****
did you turn off miui's gestures? I didn't... I use this side by side with them
