Hello,
I've been looking around for a solution for this issue.
My friend tried to root him phone, and I have no idea what he did... now his baseband is gone... Baseband version unknown.
I tried to install a new xxpe and then ddlf2 still no connection.
I'll get him to JellyBam A4 same as my phone. is there any file(s) I can copy from my phone to his to make it alive again?
his IMEI from *#06# is blank.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
try this method..

since IMEI is blank, i think the only solution there is to go to service center and let them repair it..but, if u have backup the EFS folder which contains the important files then there's a 99% u can use the phone..flashing on different ROM wont make the problem to be solve since IMEI is blank, just like my phone with no IMEI, now it is just like IPOD touch..hehe
Well he didn't back anything up.. lol
What if I took my working EFS file from my phone to his, will that work?
will he get the same IMEI as me?
can I mod the file(s) to his number, which I have from under the battery slot?

you're thinking is good that you want to ask for his EFS but sadly it is not possible coz IMEI is a unique identifier for every phone just like a PRODUCT KEYS to every computer, if that detected that 2 IMEI was using, one will be blocked..that's what i think..
if we can mod IMEI then i think no one will be having problem if in case there's IMEI has been lost..right?

well, I know it is unique, and I do have his original IMEI.
and as far as I read it can be restored in case you already made a EFS backup.
so my phone has a working IMEI files... same phone, only diff numbers.. they have to be encrypted at some level, and we are talking about android here, probably not encrypted.. I Don't know.
guess it is a long shot... but maybe I can alter my numbers to his...
IMEI and product serial number, all the data is written under the battery slot.
I'm no developer just thinking out loud... lol, maybe someone can light up the way for me, if my idea makes any sense on any level.

wrong understanding..hehe i have 1 phone and becoz of my laziness flashing some ROMS my IMEI has been corrupted and never been use for a months, and after how many days, weeks or months searching and reading here at xda for an answer, i found out and tried that we can use fake IMEI which starts at 0049xxxx and flashed it, now i can use my phone now with fake IMEI and i am happy with that eventhough it is not the orignal one..now i am thinking what will be the risk if we use the fake IMEI and asking here at xda..i open new thread, hoping for someone will explain it to me.

Oh man! I have had that happen to me. Luckily I had my IMEI backed up on my phone (external SD) and laptop. I hope you do. If not you may have a serious problem. There are many threads in our forum on how to hopefully fix it. Good Luck anoymonos. Btw I fixed it with my external sd backup
no that happened a while back and at the time i had no back up did not even know what an EFS was. I got a backup now, a dev from another forum actually helped me restore my number, noone wanted to give him a chance but i had not much to lose an wah la he fixed it quick. I know I am new to XDA and what not.. but I been flashing CWM roms to my phone for months, normally i never use odin for anything because its not my cup of tea...
Last night I was flashing a ODIN rom to my phone and something went wrong...
I managed to get the ROM straightened out and working... but now my service is screwed...
I am missing a ton of folders and files from my root folders... and I cannot use my phone for anything, 3g, 4g, Calls, MMS, SMS... nothing
My IMEI is missing and just says 0 and my ERI says none... but i believe i was successful in reinserting my imei.
Verizon swapped out many sim cards and still nothing... it also askes me to switch to global mode every 30 secs..
Please let me know if you can guide me though restoring my phone back to functionality..

I removed CWM Recovery,,, back to stock recovery...
restored the samsung official VZW rom and binary.
I removed the superuser and the unlock tools...
I still have no ERI and no service..
when i remove the sim card it tells me to insert it... obviously
when i put it back in an reboot it says "searching for service" and "everything i screenshotted... the imei is what i inputed with the tool in the imei tool thread you guys gave me...
however my wifi does work and my rom boots just fine... and when i factory reset my number shows up in the MDN field...
it honestly seems like the way the phone would communicate with the towers is screwed.

Alright, this just comes off as being a jerk. It sounds like he did (try to) backup his IMEI. Also, I don't see him blaming anyone for his "mishap". He was also very polite in asking for help. So was there a need in being a jerk(not just directed at you, as you were one of 3 or so to act as if he was wrong here)? I mean isn't the community here to help people? I could understand if he said ......OMG, I brickated my fone.....I hate you guys, you borked my phone.......But he did neither of those. It sounds like he read the guide, and still something got screwed up along the way. It happens. But there really isn't a need for posts like this.

the wifi works, the bluetooth, pretty much the whole rom.

This owner had a similar problem, perhaps - they fixed the IMEI and related issues as described in a helpful link and their followup post:

You might consider taking the suggested link within that thread, then doing what the original poster did to restore their phone's configuration and see if that helps get out of roaming.

Check out the thread "Comprehensive IMEI Backup" in the android dev section for complete, 100% security in flashing. Its imperative that new users view this thread before flashing anything. No idea why its not stickied or made apparent in the rooting guides.

Hi fish fan.
Welcome to the club.
You've just learned the hard way (like I did) that restoring an EFS from one phone to another totally wipes the phone's ability to make calls. No IMEI, no ESN, no MEID.
You'll need to re-RMA it. Or find a phone repair shop with the hardware equipment required to re-format your phone to the complete factory state (which will void your warranty). Don't bother looking for a software solution for it, unless you know exactly what you're doing (HINT : If you don't know what a NV-Item is, you don't know what you're doing).
Good luck =)
Hey all,
Ive been flashing things since early HTC Hero days and never had this issue before. I flashed a new kernel (Uber nightly if that matters) the other day and the IMEI is now 0, no network signal, cannot connect to services, random reboots, etc. Tried completely clean flash stock rom using guide at beginning of general thread running bat file (by windows), still nothing. The file seems to be corrupt until I can reenter the numbers so device recognizes and can get network. Went completely back to stock yet still have unlocked bootloader. Tried looking over the internet for some solutions, only found Octoplus IMEI repair but do not know if I need the box or not in order for it to work. Any alternatives or if anyone knows if the software works without having to buy the box. Want to avoid sending back to Google or LG. Links and suggestions are appreciated.
EDIT: no previous backup had been made to the file.

No, didnt previously make the backup of the file. I know it exists on the phone back and other places Ive seen but I need to inject that number back into system files so the phone recognizes it again. I didnt know of this issue before this but I wont be making this mistake again.
This probably won't help you after the fact, but I'll link this thread right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095 and check the EFS Backup section.
You basically have to figure out a way to manually input the IMEI back into the EFS Somehow, the thread I linked might point you in the right direction.

I have had this issue. It happened to me on November when I got the phone and wiped cahe. I fixed just Reformating cache on twrp and flashing a CM Rom. It returned my IMEI

Sadly, no. The imei number file is specific to the phone and to get it "injected" was considered illegal since people who steal the phone could, by theory, inject the new imei to sell a phone as new. There is things out there (sort of) on this yet nothing good can be done. I use TWRP now since the back up allows EFS folder as well, versus CWM that didn't. I haven't had the problem since on nexus 6 or lg g3. The only way I know how to "solve" it was warranty through Google for nexus 5, they sent a new one to me and took the bad one. Only they (the manufacturers LG and Google) can legally inject the phone back to working condition. In all, had to get new one because no real true fix out there (legally) since even recovering it may be an attempt at stealing, the manufacturers cannot distinguish one person from another. Wish I had better news. Hope that helps and you can get it resolved.
There is an app on*******. IT'S ILLEGAL TO CHANGE A PHONES IMEI NUMBER!!
You can't take a number of am old phone and put it on a new, even if you have both. I can't see its wrong to put the original number back though. I've started a thread and asked the powers that be to rule on giving out the apps name, etc.
Sorry if I revived this post...
I know how you feel.
If you message me I will send you a link to a blog I wrote on this subject, I didn't think it was possible to fix but you can.
I know it's illegal. But google supports custom roms and rooting. So they must understand that this can happen.
Uhhh, I think all of you are incorrect. You may want to check your facts or your phones. If you have the manufacturer's firmware, in my case it is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G, you can use the manufacturer's (or other) method to flash the firmware and the IMEI numbers will be reinstalled. I was required to login to their site, but that's why you should register electronics with the manufacturer when you purchase them. It might not even need a registered product. And, after I was able to recover the lost IMEI numbers, I noticed that I can freely change them if I desire. Soooo, maybe I'm breaking the law? I suppose that would all depend on my location because this phone is mine, I bought it, rooted it, put a custom ROM on it, then did the dumb a$$ move of arbitrarily deleting files that "just didn't look right". One of those was a key component. Keep in mind, possession is 9/10th of the law. I possess this phone so no matter what, they can only charge me with 10% of a crime.
After multiple flashing of ROMs and kernels, suddenly my baseband has gone (Unknown) and IMEI too . After reading multiple forums, I figured out that it might be a corrupted EFS and my phone is not under warranty everything works fine...wifi, bluetooth etc...only no cellular signal...please help guys already flashed factory images (KK and Lollipop) and tried few custom roms....but same problem Was on latest optipop with Code blue r793 :crying:

Afraid not mate . Messing with the EFS is illegal in some countries - and there's not much we can do anyway. The only ones who can help you are the guys at LG - keep pestering them until they agree to rewrite your efs.
Why did you not flash your own number. It's on the box and inside the back cover of the phone. To use a friends is stupid and illegal. You can't have two phones with the same number. It's highly illegal.
2G Only

Interesting. He just used an IMEI switcher app then? Check and make sure your APNs are correct. That could cause loss of 4g but shouldn't ever cause the phone to reboot.

You may have to use the tools capable of flashing stuff to swap CDMA carriers to get AA passwords n stuff back. And its illegal to swap ESN/imei in some countries but i don't see harm in repairing what u broke as long as info is original to Device

You sure like saying that.

That bill didn't pass but one like it did. I can't find it right now but you get the idea. FCC regs also allow for REPAIRING of it.
XDA however won't really allow any talk of how to do that because in some countries it is illegal. Plus they gotta cover their arse. So I'll just leave it it that.
No tampering with IMEI here
Thanks for the replies. But I am at all not wanting to tamper with my Imei.. Infact the imei is stable and fixed... I just want my 3g back... Rest of the phone is working perfectly fine
