Unbrick for JB yet? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all I was wondering if there are any unbrick/bootloop rescue for JB yet? I've searched all over and cant find anything. Any info would be appreciated.

If you can enter download mode I think the common fix would be odin or kies

Yeah I know of an unbrick for ICS but read nothing about one for JB.

It's the same fix. Download the stock JB rom image from samfirmware.com and install it using Odin.

Awesome news! I have been waiting to root and dig into my tab since the JB ota cause I hadn't heard of a way out if I goof, or the inevitable boot loop. Flash using Odin 1.85 like ICS?

[Q] Where is "vanilla" ODIN?

I've been cruising around this forum for a couple hours and I see roms to flash via ODIN and deodexed and rooted stock, but no plain-jane out of the box ODIN.
Am I missing something? In the Captivate forum it was easy to find.
ODIN isnt a rom its simply a program/tool used to flash kernels, I recommend you use whitwhawxk's stock kd1 but it is rooted and deodexed (which are good things anyway)

Don't worry I do know that, lol. Not a complete noob.
I'm more concerned with UNROOTING to out of the box state for warranty or resale scenarios or to update via kies mini.
In the Captivate forum the plain Jane Odin was easy to find.
Thanks for your response.

So is that the official unroot method so far? Flash the rooted stock and use SOC to unroot?
Will that result in a perfect out of the box state?
Also haven't been able to find kies on the samsung website. Do I have to register before they'll let me download it?

Lost root?

I haven't taken any ota's, and out of nowhere I don't have root. I tried updating binaries through supersu, but utility says installation failed. Help?

That made me lol.
Sorry I know I'm not helping at all, but really, that made my day.
More information. What ROM, do you have a custom recovery? If you have stock recovery then the ota def updated itself. If your stock rooted then it will do that without asking

I'm stock rooted, but I had flashed twrp recovery

Repeat the rooting process again.

[Q] Root in new JB update

I got the OTA update on my gs3 to jelly bean yesterday. Is it possible to root it using the file i used to root it in ics 4.0.4? Do i need to download a new .tar file to root 4.1.1 or will using the same file be okay?

Posting this here, I made an account just to ask this question. I've rooted a few of my devices but this is my first time rooting a phone. I followed the link you posted but when I boot into recovery using CWM and try to flash SupersSU_Bootloader.zip I get an E:signature verification failed.
Any thoughts?
No sorry haven't rooted mine yet. I'd try adding in the thread for the root.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Well I fixed it, for some reason it was booting into the normal samsung recovery instead of CWM. I know its kind of obvious but hey....give me a break
For other newbies having the same issue make sure you are booting into CWM and not the stock samsung recovery.
How do you change which recovery the phone boots into?

You don't. The ota was overwriting cwm on boot like the last ics ota was. The directions for the root method are updated to get around that now.

Yup! I saw the update about 10 minutes ago and I am now rooted!

[Q] Going from Jelly Bean to GingerBread

I need help im tired of jellybean. Theres too many things not working for me and i want to go back to GingerBread. I try to flash GingerBread roms but it just brings me back to CWM recovery. Is there a way to go back or im stuck on jellybean. I even tried to flash an Icecream Sandwich rom but it just brings me back to CWM recovery. My recovery is 6.0.2.8.
You probably should just one-click to stock and start from there.

I don't think you can downgrade from an mtd ROM if you were using one. I think you will have to return to the stock 2.3.6 first, and then flash another ROM if you would like.
I'm using this to create my answer. http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Installing_a_ROM
When ever I try to flash gingerbread it says my phone is the galaxymtd or something like that but I know my phone is the galaxy s 4g
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app

That means you were using an MTD ROM before, so you have to restore to stock. There's an easy way to do with the Heimdall One-Click
OK thanks guys I'll try that and give you feedback

To go back to (ics) you have to go all the way back to gingerbread 2.3.6 here is what you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523 when you finish you can flash the ics rom you want.

Well can you flash ICS and be done with it because when I use odin it freezes up and it does not respond :/ and then again I am using USB 1.0
Well I. Just saying can I just flash back down to ICS because y do I have to use odin
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire2 using xda app-developers app

Use Odin back to stock with root from Scott, then find a cwm
You must first install kies on your pc to get the drivers foot download mode
If you succeeded, then here is your first step to flash a
ROM.
This is a thread for a working CWM on infuse.I used the
04.30 1.2GHz version and you can install it without
going into recovery mode using SGS Kernel Flasher in
play store for free:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25724638
Next flash a cm9 rom.I suggest Enthropy CM9.
Many thanks to Enthropy,scott.hart.bi,qkster,connor baker and all people supporting the old, but revitalised Infuse 4g
