Aside from the developer tutorials on the android website, where are good resources for learning how to write apps? I picked up a copy of Android Development All-In-One For Dummies, but I'm having trouble starting at that until I learn

Is there a method for signing ROMs on a Mac? I'm getting into developing ROMs but right now all I have is a Mac. I could dual-boot the Mac, but that's too much like work.
No answer on this so far?

I use Android-sign to sign zips and apks on my mac. I've attached it below and just follow readme.rtf for where to put the files. The thread about it is here.
Thanks a ton!

The first step comes from googling the topic: how to make custom rom.
have you tried this yet?
there are several hits from google, including youtube vids.
You can also read the older threads in the dev section.
You can also hang out in chat rooms and irc...you're more likely to get more help there.

I have looked at Google and you tube but all I found was for Linux or Mac OS and I haven't seen any older posts that helped

Working on it now actually

You have to build in Linux since android is a Unix based system. You can tear apart a stock, or leaked rom in windows and mod it, and/or theme it. But, to straight build a rom, HAS to be done in Linux, ie(Linux mint, Ubuntu) .

Does anyone know how to make an app to put on the market? What program do you use? How to test it? Much appreciated. I could really use some help.

You need to learn coding. If I recall, Java.

Usually, eclipse is used in developing android apps but other IDE can be used as well(with the installation of the appropriate plugins).
You can follow the following link to setup everything and make a simple app: http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/index.html
The app can be tested on an emulator or on a real device
SDK
As per the site given, you will have to install the Android SDK, and get at least one firmware for an app to work. then the guide will go through creating and testing your first app using cmd or eclipse(classic version 4.0 should work), with android development tools installed. happy creating!
i tried googling for other managers but it seemed that clockworkmod has a manager but my system isn't on it so other rom managers?

What rom are you on now? Click on the top entry it will give you all available roms, not all of them but a good amount

The SGS4G isn't a "ROM Manager" device, in the main. Most people download and flash ROMs through recovery. It isn't a complex process.
Posted from my SGS4G, thanks to Team Acid development
@anon when i click roms it says nothing available

Perhaps since only MTD ROMs are presently available and you aren't on a Goo-enabled one yet.
Why do you make this process so complicated? You wasted 2 days trying to find out how to download a ROM straight to your phone, while you can just download one straight from your computer and put it in your SD Card.
You can also download ROMs right to your phone if you have a browser installed that has a desktop mode. Chrome for android works well. I download ROMs all the time using XDA and the stock ICS browser.
