I m currently running slim rom on my infuse but i'm now so bored about the many issues everybody have with ics first and jelly bean now. I am seriously thinking to go back to gingerbread so finally my hdmi will work and no problems with recording with the camera etc... So here i'm asking if anyone can suggest me the best and most stable 2.3.6/2.3.7 rom. I used to run AEON rom but i had a look on 2.3.7 cyanogen mod and it seems much better. Hope to not be a noob with this thread thanks to all of you guys. XDA the best!
From a Moderator:
What is stable for others may not be for you, best thing is to test/flash for yourself. Good to see you say you have been reading, outstanding!
Now Sir, take it to the next level run the ROMs for a few days to get the best test you can, Thanks
I've had both CM7 and Zeus V6....had the same camera problems and no bluetooth with CM7...Zeus...everything worked...and worked well....Kept a lot of the TouchWiz features I liked like swipe left or right for text or call...Just my opinion.
does wording of the question make a difference?
Bigjoe would've probably put a few pictures/graphics in there to help make the point for dummies like me (as he usually does).
The same type question (what's the best ROM) comes up again and again and there's always an understandable reluctance from developers and really senior members to permit that discussion.
I wonder if it might be a bit more tolerable if the question were reworded slightly to ask:
"what's your personal favorite....and why"
instead of
"what's the best".
(Would that be a better question or still frowned upon?)
Well if camera and HDMI are your main concerns then it's best to stick with our Samsung-based 2.3.6 roms.
Stock is best go stock gingerbread.

I actually miss the LiquidSmooth RC8 camera app for it's image stabilization but I'm glad to be back to the GB version I first rooted to. I chose Option C from this thread:

I've used AEON, Mind of Mac, stock, CM7, and my JoyOS. I like Mind of Mac, just because it has the look and feel of ICS/JB, yet has the features and battery life of GB

Hi guys,
I was wondering if I could get some advice. I had the Nexus One and had Cyanogen running on it, which I loved. I got the nexus S at christmas and love it... the random reboots did annoy me until 2.3.3 came out. Recently I rooted the phone and flashed modaco custom ROM based on 2.3.3 with the KB3 radio and GRI 54 base.
I was wondering if your guys opinions, what is the best ROM to flash, that is stable, with not random boots etc. but an improvment on what I have?
Thanks!!
They're all great. Try them all and see which you like the best.
Personally, I like CM 7 because of the T-Mobile theme engine that allows me to change the appearance of the ROM with the touch of a button. No more constant flashing of themes for me!

I've tried a lot and although they all have their advantages I always come back to CM. It generally picks up all the great little mods that the community develop not to mention all its own great features.
Bear in mind that it is still not technically stable yet though R2 has been pretty good for me with only a couple of reboots since installing on the day it was released. Once we get the full stable CM7 it will be a tough one to beat
Cyanogen Mod 7 only.

I will elaborate. I've run every ROM available since January (when I got my NS). I've tried almost every release of those ROMs as well and I can honestly say that they are all awesome for different reasons. I try really hard not to be biased to one ROM or one developer because it tends to cloud your ability to try different things with an open mind. Right now I have NANDroid backups of CM7rc2, MIUI, Axura, NSCollab, Stock 2.3.3, Stock 2.3.3 Deodexed, and Honeycomb.
I'm always sad to see these thread because I think its asking the wrong question altogether. What these threads should ask is "What is your daily driver?" because "best" is so subjective to uses and personal preference. What some love about CM7 is also what many other hate. The iOS look of MIUI is both on of its most loved and hated qualities. Whatever tweaks a particular dev or team of devs seems fit to include may be exactly what a person wants or what a person doesn't want.
Now, I've said my diatribe and I'll answer the other question: "What is your daily driver?"
I have two. Some days I run CM7rc2, some days I run Axura. Once the white background issue is cleared up in MIUI, I'll add that to the rotation as well.
Cm7. Other roms are good for if you're bored and want to flash something new. Pretty sure everyone ends up on cm7 for stability and features better than stock.
Axura is my everyday driver. Its fast and its been the most stable for me.

I must agree entirely. I tried CM7 for awhile but it wasn't stable enough for me. I've never had a ROM as stable and fast and clean looking as Axura! I'd recommended at least giving a few of them a try though. The stickied thread by Kenvan is a wonderful resource!

Hello all,
Wondering if you guys can help me decide whether to flash an ICS ROM or not?
I have my Skyrocket tweaked and set up perfectly. It contains...
Version: 2.3.5 (refuse to upgrade to 2.3.6 due to many issues I see some are having)
Kernel: 2.6.35.11+ (excellent "stock-ish" ROM from romracer)
Launcher: Go Launcher EX
Phone is rooted and like to use CWM.
With that said, I'm wondering what is the best option to try? My main concern is obviously performance and battery life. I have spectacular battery life right now and don't want to lose it by flashing an ICS ROM.
Perhaps something that will work with the romracer kernel? For example, something that would still allow me to use CWM and MUST also support boot animations and BLN support. That is a must for me, as I use it to tweak my battery life quite a bit.
Anyways,
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

If you decide that you can live without the BLN and overclocking then make a nandroid and give smooth ice a try, skyics is also good I hear.
I've tried smooth ice for like a month almost and it is really stable and the battery was good too.

If you do not have the heart for glitches, ICS may not serve you well. There is no real benefit that I can see unless you are a hardcore phone tweaker. I am always debating whether to just go back to stock GB myself !!!
BUT if you really have the itch, the safest is mhx's full bloat stock. I used that for a long time, and it is very - relatively- stable.

Close eyes. Now say eni mini miny Moe! Just flash them all. U could use the experience and see everyone's roms instead of asking.... hrllo

you gotta wait till kernel source is released before you'll have bln and oc but maybe try smooth ice if you want touchwiz but id try cm7 if you haven't or cm9 its all alpha buy lots have used it as a daily driver... I just hate touchwiz
CM9 Skyrocket
Thanks...
Thank you all for the feedback.
This is what I though! lol
I will stick with GB for now. I get amazing battery life, is extremely stable and love all the extra features after tweaking.

Battery Life & Stability
Thanks to the OP for this thread. I'm in a similar boat, but am just looking for the most stable custom ROM with the longest battery life. Coming from rooted Gingerbread, I've setup my ICS exactly the same (debloated and lean), and my time between charges was cut by 1/3 at least.
From my limited research, the CM9 Beta 1 ROM sounds to have excellent battery life and great stability. However, I'm open to suggestions! One question I have though, is I keep hearing folks talk about "nightlies". That that mean it requires nightly updating? Thanks in advance.
I've been using PTSD's AOKP ICS ROM and I love it. I've mixed that with InstigatorX's Kernel and my battery life is amazing. I'm an Android noob, but I'm digging this setup.

the word nightly means that it's scheduled to auto build a new version with any fixes made during the day... It wont auto update your Rom though you have to manually install it
It is a very easy process though. you download the new nightly and reboot to recovery: wipe system and wipe cache then install, wipe dalvik and fix permissions and reboot if you installed any mods like inverted apps or gps fix or dpi changes they need to also be addresses after the first boot
Because i don't like setting it up all the time i just install the new nightly weekly
CM9 Skyrocket
I actually *just* restored to Gingerbread today, after months of using Cyanogenmod 9's official and nightly releases, as well as the InstigatorX kernels.
My battery life was okay, but for all the extra bells and whistles, they seem to get the basics wrong, unfortunately :/ I still couldn't send texts larger than 160 characters without splitting them up, and they'd always arrive out of order, or not at all. Other apps wouldn't behave properly either, and my mobile network connection seemed to change/drop just from looking at it.
So CM9 looked promising, but still has a ways to go, and it's rated as one of the better ROMs for this phone. I didn't even want to try CM10, because their bug list is still bigger than CM9.
Can I ask where you got your romracer kernel? I'll have to give that a try. Also I'm looking to replace the current radio with something better.
I had to rebuild from scratch because somehow my gingerbread backup was corrupted. I used Bonestocketeer's ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357274 ) and the only issue I've had with it is I can't change the LTE/HSPA/GSM setting in Mobile Networks to just HSPA/GSM. I was able to with my original ROM, and that seemed to help battery life.
Thanks again for your post!

At least tell him why. You report hounds are all the same.
To OP, james has reported you because the title and nature of this thread suggests asking which rom is the best, which is prohibited in this forum because "which x is best" threads can usually promote flaming and whatnot. It's like asking who likes the Yankees, and then fans of other teams riot about how their team is the best.
This comes as a surprise as I see you've been a member for a while. Assuming that other forums have similar rules to the SR forum.

My recommendation would be NexusMod, then. It features the proprietary performance tweaks available in the TouchWiz ROMs, so it's faster than Cyanogenmod, but it has a lot of theming that makes it look and feel closer to AOSP. There are still some ugly elements of TouchWiz that exist, but it's a big improvement over a lot of the other TouchWiz-based ROMs.
For sure, CM9 has more features and tweaking options, and a more consistent AOSP look to it, but it's slower than NexusMod and still has some very minor bugs. It does, perhaps, offer you a few more options in how to save battery, though.
I have to say, though ICS is a massive improvement over GB and we have stable, mature ICS ROMs available. I would strongly advise upgrading, but if you're concerned about bugs, stick with a light TW-based rom like NexusMod.

I would say it is: EAGLESBLOOD™ ICS "AOSP". I have bounced around using different ROMs but always end up with EB. Besides the Devs are there for you when issues come up.
Search and try
There are any number of "good" ROMs out there Some prefer CM7, or CM9. Some Prefer AOKP. SOme like to stick to close to stock because it has fewer potential problems. Your mileage will vary based on your needs and you should try some until you find one that matches your needs. There is no single generic answer to your question. If it were specific it would be more likely that one ROM best fits your needs though. For example, if you are seeking video capture and playback then stear clear of CM9 and ICS. If you are seeking a safer ROM than try CM7 or stockish. If you are seeking massive customization than go with some that have those choices(eaglesblood AOKP is a good choice). If you are looking for an iphone-like interface than Muiu might be your thing. So, sorry, but there is no one answer to this question. Many members of this site will just tell you to search and stop posting this question, but I thought I might help.
If you want stable, then get a modded stock ROM.
ICS doesn't have working video.
Cm7 has Bluetooth issues (I never use Bluetooth so I am on Cm7).

Other options
If you get tired of Eaglesblood (not like it's bad or anything) go for AOKP. I had it on my Fascinate before I switched to the G2X and the features are simply astounding.
At this point, most of the developers are using the same performance mods (making most of the ICS roms run nearly the same in general use). So it comes down to features!
Get a SD card for Nandroids, then try many.
gpmartinson and buru898 offered great advice.
Best thing to do IMHO is to read, mostly the development threads. You'll see lots of posts regarding what works and what the current issues are with particular ROMs (and kernels).
Then get an SD card for all your flashing curiosities. I usually keep this separate from my kids' movies and all my photos that I like to keep on a different SD card. I keep Nandroid backups of each ROM I try (usually between 300 - 700 MB) and remember to rename them so I can keep 'em all straight (that's the only thing I use Rom Manager for). Also finding a good launcher set-up nicely makes a huge difference. ADW EX works so well for me on that even on stock based ROM's my G2x seems snappier than a stock Samsung GS2 or SkyRocket. I bounce back and forth all the time as it takes less than 5 minutes to restore from a backup once I have a ROM set-up the way I like.
Buru, you're on CM7? WTF? I love BuruROM 2.3.4! For reliability and battery life I too like CM7, but I'll put in a vote for Buru too :good: since that rooted stock version is awesome for battery, great GPS, and I prefer using LG Cam 3.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1166531) to the CM7 camera mod ported from LG Camera.

Hey all...
My original Infuse had to be sent back to the Warranty dep because of the micro usb issues a lot of people had...it had Zeus v6 which I did love however I had to figure out how to hard brick it because I couldn't go back to stock....
So here I am with my new (Most likely refurbished) Infuse and it actually came pre-loaded with Gingerbread (Holy crap right?) and it seems to run well...in fact better than Zeus did....my battery life is better although it still sucks....it hasn't crashed yet so so far no known issues....
However, I miss the extra features Rooting/Flashing can do whether they're just for fun or not....but I'm worried I'm going to have the same USB issue right and never get back to stock again if something dire goes wrong....I almost felt like flashing caused the problem because it happened the same week....
So here's my question...
A lot of these new ICS/JB Roms are obviously ports of one another which is cool but everywhere I look they all seem to have the same issues with BT not working...wifi issues...signal issues and videocamera issues....I realize people have fixes with these with different kernels etc....but is there a more stable ROM than others? I used to have CM7 before Zeus and it was really slick and stable however I hated that it was missing some TouchWiz features that love and Zeus kept them....But when it comes to ICS I do like that "Vanilla" look because it doesn't really seem stock Samsung phones have it because of Touchwiz...
So what's the most stable ROM most of you know works best...
What's the flashiest ROM (all the bells and whistles)
And do any of them incorporate some TouchWiz features like swiping right or left on contacts for calling or messaging..(I don't know why I just love that feature)
So far from the looks like the updated Unofficial CM10 is the way to go....anyone want to steer me clear from this?
The only issue at the moment with ics/jb is 720p recording. Everything else is running completely fine.
Most of the jb roms are really smooth and stable. Try a few of them out and stick with the one you prefer.

Great post from andros here. No one can really make up your mind on what ROM to go with as some may have features you don't want, like, or need and/or is missing features you want/need. The most anybody can really do is throw a few recommendations out there (which i will do) but the rest is up to you.
Some ROMs i would personally recommend would first of all be andros's LiquidSmooth (click picture in my sig).
Some others from the JellyBean line-up would be RemICS-JB, SlimBean, and the unofficial CM10.
The only ICS ROM i have used is RemICS (not the same as RemICS-JB) so can't give any recommendations there (same goes for GB ROMs).
Those are the ROMs i have personally tried and are in my opinion the best 4.x ROMs for the infuse. But like i said earlier, it's your decision which one to go with. Research each ROM's features list, bug list, and update intervals to see which one is best for you.
-DD
You listed bt first so I assuming that is important. I'm using liquid smooth and it works flawlessly with bt. And battery life is great
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
I checked out that video of Liquid Smooth and it looks very promising.....on the video he said that everything on the camera works....is the 720p issue have to do with crappy resolution or the video and audio not matching up? Because the video/audio is what I had issues with on CM7....
The guy on the video is using an sg3. The video is mostly for people to see how it looks, its features and functionality.
Our only issue with our Infuse is choppy 720p recording.
Sent from my LiquidSmooth Infuse
If you are going to upgrade past GB I recommend skipping ICS. To my knowledge development on ICS has stopped for the infuse. I could be wrong but last I checked most of the ICS ROMs are still less functional than the jellybean ROMs.
I've tried most of the jb ROMs and from my own experiences, Slim, liquid, and Paranoid are the best. I haven't tried remics or miui though.
Flash one of them and you should be happy. And actually I have the 4.2 camera and took a video at a wedding (in low light) and it was the best video I've taken since stock.
Again it's all personal preference. But stability wise I think jb is pretty awesome.

So I had CM 10.1 for a good while and decided to try something new song trues Jellybam. Everything works smoothly but my only complaint is my battery life has gone done significantly. So I'm looking for a pretty highly customizable rom that's stable, smooth, and has pretty good battery life. Any suggestions?
I don't really have the time or patience to try out a bunch of roms at the moment so I need some ideas... Thanks
By posting this you will end up doing exactly what you claim to have no time or patience for. The universal fact is that what rom works for one person doesn't always work for everyone else. Also these threads get closed as these can lead to unwanted debates. In the end you are better off trying out the roms yourself to see if it works well with your device but you don't have time for that so good luck in your search.
I'm not looking to go out and try 200 roms and then find out the one I want is the one I didn't try.. I'm just looking for ideas to narrow down my options
Well your op didn't help much as pretty much all of Touchwiz roms are stable so are most AOSP roms. You want customization there are the following:
Bonestock
AOSPA
Chameleon
MOAR
Plasma
AOKP
Pac-Man
Avatar
Goodness
Carbon
Mysterious
Xenon
Vanilla Rootbox
Jellybeer
MIUI
Axis
Hyperdrive
Synergy
Obsessed
Liquidsmooth
See I pretty much mentioned most if not all the roms with high customization options and results may vary in terms of battery life.
Thank you, and sorry I'm fairly new to rooting. Do you have any opinions as to which ones I should try first?

Well you can try Chameleon since it is pretty good rom. When it comes to this section it helps to be specific in your threads as it helps when solving problems also avoid posting suggestion thread as like I said the moderator will close them down.
I got the best life out of Bone Stock or literally the factory 4.1.2. I got the worst battery life out of AOSP ROMs.
I'd say try bone stock, and if that doesnt work try the factory odexed rom - it was the only rom I could get power saving mode to work on.

every device runs different and you need to read and try what works for you.
if you dont have the patience for reading and trying then maybe roms arent for you.

I've looked around at quite a few roms. it's just since there is so many I don't know where to start. I'd like to try a few roms that quite a few people recommend and work down from there. It just seems easier than trying rom after rom after rom for a week or two when I could ask here, get a narrowed down list so I could only spend a few days, find what I liked the most and move on.
Ok thanks for the help.. sorry I wasn't to specific in the op :/ I'll start with chameleon and work my way around the list.
