[Q] First Android-App Project - General Questions and Answers

Hello! I´m not a developer and i dont think that i want to learn everything about developing an app. I just want to make the management part of it.
My App is something like an calculator where you enter (input) some data in some fields and you will get an excel based pdf document with a table and a chart as output.
The excel file is allready done and i just need to convert it into an app with the GUI and some other small features like settings, output formats, checkboxes and so on....
So i have my first project and i need that app to run without bugs and so on. My Questions:
- Is it recommended to use one of these automatic App builders if im a bloody beginner or would you recommend to hire a developer?
- If i take a developer, what kind of details does he need to start that application?
- How much should i pay for such an app? I guess its not a complex app so it should not be very costly, right?
Thanks for your support and help!

Looking for simple, modify-able open-source wallpaper app

Hi,
I would like to make a little app that basically packages my company's artwork (from TRPG books) into an apk, distribute it on the Market for free, and allows the user to set the artwork as a wallpaper.
I downloaded and used APK Manager the other day (while looking at a thread about modifying the "framework" file to adjust the auto-brightness settings on my SGS2). I noticed that this program can just take the apks apart and then re-compile. My question is, is it possible to use something like this to take apart a free open-source simple wallpaper setting app, then insert the art I need to insert, then recompile and publish? Or...do I need to go through the whole shabang and make a new simple app from scratch?
BTW, Yes I'm lazy to learn programing, and i'm not making enough money to hire someone to do this. And my PC at home has some USB problems. And I live in China where it seems that downloading the java SDK, android SDK, Eclipse, and the other things I need takes for ever. And I don't really know any programming. If I have to, I can learn. But that means less sleep for me, which I already don't get enough of.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

[Q] Visual Basic Student

Hi guys I am a 16 year old student in the UK and has just started college. One of the subjects I am taking is computing. In computing I am learning visual basic. So far I am learning how to write console applications. I have attached a piece of code that demonstrates my skill. But what I would like is to start developing apps. If anyone can point me to tutorials or anything that would be helpful. I also attached a data dictionary to help decipher my code. (what I want to start with is a simple torch app and then build my skill from there)
There is a 'thanks' in there for you.
I took a gander upon your code and wish you good luck with your journey of your programming career. I'm also working towards coding certain apps and utilities myself. Just stick to what you want to and write down in a notepad or if you're more of a person who writes things down in a notebook do that. Write down what you want in a program as well as extra's that you want implemented (such as Beta, Alpha, Free, Pro features, and keep in mind if you're gonna have open source applications for download or put your program on a website for people to download) or something along those lines.

[Q] Newb framwork question.

I neve ever build an app (but have enough other experience) and i need some advice to point me in the right direction
I need to build a app which can do the following:
1) show a form with 5 Fields (Name - Adress)
2) on this form there is a button to take a picture.
When done: a save button is pressed and the picture is saved into a folder (upload) together with an xml file containing the field data.
These is also a submit button which connects to a server to send all the files in the upload folder.
(will be a small no commercial app for a few users)
Questions:
What framework would be best to use for something this small. (do I even need a framwork?)
Is there a way to create this for android and Iphone in one go?
Thanks in advance
Ron
Subscribed. I would like to see how people would do this so I can learn. I am needing to set up multiple forms for my app, and was thinking about including the ability to include images for users to keep track of things.
maybe use something like this :
appmakr.com
If you want to develop the app for Android and iOS, you can use Ionic and Cordova frameworks.
How much experience do you have with programming in general?
What languages if any are you familiar with?
What kinds of software have you built?
I would be able to guide you on the best way to proceed with this information.
Libgdx is a framework that you can use to make apps for android, ios, html5 and desktop at the same time. It's also free and open source.

Best back end for Android app?

I appologize if this is a dumb question, but I am new to app development, altough some experienced in php/html.
I want to create an app where user fills in forms. The app development is easy to find info about, but i also want a back end plattform where I read the submitted forms and organize users.
So, my question. Is there a sort of ready wordpress like plattform to customize, or should this be built from scratch? If so, which platform is the best?
One note I should add about Buddy (full disclosure: I work there) is that we maintain independent instances of the platform in different locations around the world. If you need to host your backend in Europe (for response time or data sovereignty reasons, for example), you can choose your app backend to be sandboxed in the EU. Likewise the US and likewise China (with Brazil, Singapore and Australia coming soon).
he best way to develop mobile apps is to use REST services. So now you can choose any thing.
Any language that can used for server side programming can be used.
Now it is up to you choose the language.
If you familiar with JavaScript then you can try nodejs. You can make small app server in it.
But if your server software design is very complex (containing threads and synchronisation) then java can be handy.
But there is no restriction of language.
Firebase should be also a way to go for this.
The best android back end services include, Parse, Kumulos, Kinvey, backendless, QuickBlox.
Concerning the forms where users can fill up information, would something like help out?

On Apple's platform you might need an iPhone developer - it is quite possible to create and publish an iPhone app using your form.
I did take the help of mobile apps development service in toronto to know the process which is described here: http://support.brightcove.com/en/app-cloud/docs/step-step-guide-publishing-apple-app-store-using-mac
Thanks Carol for sharing such a wonderful article.

I have heard good things about Hasura (Not affiliated in anyway). And I think parse - mentioned above - is no longer available.
I'm wondering why nobody mentioned Google CLoud or AWS. They are most mobile friendly for a good price
Hi, if you will decide to build from scratch, there are different options/frameworks. But If you use kotlin you should look to Ktor.

Here, The list of good backend options for an Android app:
1. Parse.
2. Back4app.
3. Firebase.
4. Kinvey.
5. Appcelerator.

What is the best tool to start developing an app without coding?

Hi
We need to create an app that would basically play some videos and music. So it will have a media player, besides we need some customization for the screen that contains the player and for the player itself. It will also have the user profile screen where it will show some statistics (like, how many videos the user watched, how many days in a row they used the app, etc., and a calendar that displays the user's activity). Thus the app will also have a backend where all the user data will be stored. There will be also some functionality to choose specific videos depending on one's mood. We don't have a budget to order this work to a developer so we are looking for an app development platform. I saw, there are quite a few platforms available out there. But we need something powerful enough on the one hand but easy to learn on the other hand so that we could finish the app as quickly as possible. Can somebody suggest a platform for this task? It should be able to create apps for both Android and iOS.
you dont need to be good at programming but should have basic programming skills if you just want to make an app for you than you can use code from internet
Thank you for sharing with is this is really good for us .
