Hey, not exactly sure about posting in the right sub forum but i have a little issue
i am currently using a CDMA Hero for Sprint and everything has been going well after fixing the battery issue with a different messaging app, but now a new little annoying issue has arised.
lately when i have opened my menu bar for all my apps i have been getting multiple icons for the same apps
Examples such as Bonsai Blast and Teeter have 2 icons right next to each other that are the same. They both work but its kinda annoying
also some of the applications names are incorrect. instead of ChompSMS its titles is now com.p1.chompsms along with Google Voice being voicemail.xxx... etc
i have tried searching the forums quite a bit and haven't quite found an answer for this issue and am not sure if it applies to the GSM version (thinking it might be a bug for Sense UI)
anyone have the same issue?
i have tried reinstalling the applications and rebooting and it still keeps happening. (not really wanting to hard reset...)
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!
you are not alone, yeah for i have two print voicemail apps one with a long com..... something same with google sky and google voice app its odd but hey hopefully we will get eclair soon
I don't think it is the Sense UI. I think it is Android. They show the long namsspace name for the application...and some apps show other weird names as well. It happens when you reboot the phone, at least for me. I think it has to do with the way the apps register themselves when the phone boots. Or it may be sloppy programming in the manifest files. Not sure.
Having the same issues. Google Sky will actually show up as the first application, and titled something with about an End User Agreement. When launched it pops up the EUA and only option is a force close.
Not sure what is causing it either.

I had that happen also. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it fixed itself.

I bet if you reboot your phone the issue will return though...try it!!!
If that IS the case, see my post in this CDMA forum about app versions reverting. what has happened is that your app, in this case google sky, has reverted to an initial version, without telling you.

Just tested this and you are correct! Google Sky maps and Google Voice are the ones that do this for me.

I've confirmed that this app version reverting issue happens with at least 16 apps, not just the two Google apps you mention. I have a support question open with Google, so hopefully they can figure it out soon. It makes people think something else is wrong entirely.

I really think this now too,
so far i reinstalled Flixster Movies and Handcent SMS and when my phone reboots i get some different weird icon for both that are not the original ones.
also with the reboot, one of my original problems happens with the names of ChompSMS and Google Voice with their com.xxx.etc names
it has to be something changed on a reboot.
Google Dev group is on it. No fix yet though unfortunately:

Mercado, would you mind also informing them that a reboot also is causing apps to revert to their older versions? I think the problems are related. Thanks!

Oops! Sorry for making it sound like I am in on the android developer work. It is way over my head. Just thought I'd share a link I'd stumbled across. If it's kosher, perhaps you might want to share the url to your version reverting bug with that group. Not sure how that works.
In any case, it does seem like this is all related (missing icons, duplicate icons, renamed shortcuts, version issues, etc.). Unfortunately, it so far HTC has not acknowledged their role in the matter. Hopefully as the bug reports add up, they'll do something about it. Or, maybe they'll simply release Android 2.0 with Sense built in.

Ah, no worries. I have no shame, I'll put it in there whether it's kosher or not
After all, without visibility, a problem will never get solved.
May have been answered before but searching didn't bring anything up for me. Basically I want to clear the data backed up on my Google account regarding Android (WiFi, Market apps, Settings, etc) so I can start again.
Anyone know how to do it?
OK, managed to find somewhere that if you go into your Privacy settings and uncheck the backup option it says it'll delete everything. Is this correct?
Erm I think so eddy I used to untick it when first install and everythibk would be clear
For reference, the above doesn't work. Tried clearing the lot, wiped all data and reflashed my ROM and it still restored my apps, etc...quite annoying really. I mean, its good, but if you wanna start from a clean slate it would seem you can't!
Erm ok soz buddy

That's OK mate! I'll find a way I'm sure
Quick edit: Turning off backup DOES delete settings relating to the phone but NOT the Market. Must be a separate backup which I can't find!
EDIT: OK, sign into your Google Dashboard and you can see what's backed up and when but you CANNOT delete it. Why the hell not?!?!

Hi,
Is it one of those situations where they have you by the short and curlies, and will not let you go?
Maybe the only way is to open a new account?
I seem to remember AOL being the same...
Bloody well hope not! I've emailed Google so we'll see what comes of it but surely if you delete an app it should NOT come back the next time!
On a related note, anyone know why some apps I install are NOT listed under 'My Apps'? I'm guessing it's linked to my account somehow but, again, it's annoying!
Erm depends if they where downloaded from Google it self or if sourced from some where else they won't show up I should know
If u have titanium backup go to
Menu/more/market doctor and it will fix broken links to Google market

They're all from the Market, but I'll try the TI option, thanks
EDIT: I'm not paying for an app I'll never use, but thanks anyway. Funny how the old Market never had this issue. just the new one
Haha yes yes I agree old market was fantastic
Yes i do try before I buy if I like the app then buy

Randomly enough, it seems to have worked anyway! It said I may have to 'download any app' to get it up to scratch and, seeing as Superuser needing updating, I did it. It now shows all Market apps in My Apps!
Yh I did it I was playing around and now I have like 20 updates but can't update them.as there ermmmm not from Google

I'm just glad to have it sorted, was doing my nut in! At least now everything is cleared and setup from scratch so hopefully won't have to complain again. Still think Google should have the option
I already searched on here, and someone asked this before but got no reply.
I want to uninstall Gmail 4.7.1 from my Kyocera Rise that's running ICS, and install the older Gmail 2.3.4.1 on it. Has anyone else done this before? Any idea if it'll work?
I want to do this because 2.3.4.1 is what my old phone (was running Gingerbread) had on it. I don't like the newer Gmail app, IMO they made it harder to read and navigate. I find myself using my old phone just to check my email, because its less annoying. It'd be awesome if the older app were to work on here.

Welcome to Xda, you will see that this happens allot here and i wish everyone could get the help they deserve but most of the time they don't as for your problem, you could google Gmail 2.3.4.1 apk and might be able to find someone who mirrored that like you can try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181033 download that file from your phone or computer and find it and install it. it might not work because google sorta wants us to use newer versions of their apps but if it does you need to turn off the auto update so it wont. good luck and welcome to XDA!

Hello, thanks. I've been a lurker on here for a while, but I have no experience asking my own questions here.
Yup, I did that, I downloaded an .apk of 2.3.4.1. I was asking on here to try and find out if attempting this would even work.... in my research I can't find anything on whether something like this for Gingerbread will work correctly in ICS. It looks like I have to root to even remove Gmail 4.7.1 so that's why I was asking before getting into this.

The reason why you can't completely uninstall it is because it's a system app. So yes you would have to root to remove it

I am using paranoid android 4.6 beta 1 on the defualt kernel that comes with it.... I am not using xposed module or any other modifications... I am on default theme...
Whenever I open the gallery only some images load up (the recent ones) for the thumbnail preview and even when opened for the remaining many I get grey thumbnails and when openedgrey boxes..
I know this has something to do with media scanning being enabled at startup... But I didn't do anything to screw it up... I had this issue previously... But since no one helped I simply got back to stock ROM.. Pa 4.6 and a couple of releases before it worked well... It got back when I clean flashed the ROM yday!
Why not ask in the rom thread, where the guys that use the rom are?
Also, you may want to consider a more detailed title for your threads in the future... Many won't even open a thread with a vague or barely existent title. ?

Well, not sure what to say. Try clean flashing it again. About ago you can do.
Or ask in their thread, maybe someone else has had it happen. ?
Really your only options.
try this app - old thumbnails and grey boxes were displaying on mine, i had to scan everytime i deleted images, i think it was since i switched back to art, i started from scratch - no longer needed the app, i wasnt using PA
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.jerickson314.sdscanner&hl=en
I can't tell if the gray thumbnails are actual photos sometimes. I normally delete them. You can use a File Manager and delete .thumbnails is whatever folder, as well attempt a reboot.
Been using iYTBP for a long time both rooted and rootless versions on my Sony droids.
Since moving to Razer I have to admit I've missed this app a lot.
Don't know what it is?
Where the fk have you been!
iYTBP = Injected YouTube with Background Playback
(including Screen off Playback) & NO ADVERTS!
All credits to the entire team who work very hard at pushing this amazingly modded YouTube app.
All you need to know is this is a rootless version - which can be installed alongside your original YouTube installation without issue.
I can verify the version I am gonna post here woks as I expect it too.
Don't post here for help, goto the original thread and ask the geniuses themselves, however all you need to know I have posted here.
Original thread and credits due here
(FYI The 3rd post is for rootless versions - and is where I located the necessary Latest arm64 version.) https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...cted-youtube-background-t3560900/post71133073
I'm hosting necessary apks on my drive for a short while here (for my new Razer family.) This is the latest (December 4th) update from the IYTBP team. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1o76gLX3ov5mqpPvmSLZCNppYWB6AiOFU
1. Install the iYTBP app.
2. You cannot sign in to this modded YouTube app WITHOUT also installing MicroG, which will in turn automagically allow you to add your Google/YouTube account.
3. Btw to sign in, click the top right corner in iYTBP (which is blacked out) and it will take you to add account (notice when pressing + button the UI will not do anything UNLESS you install MicroG.)
For whatever reason if you did not want to Sign in to your YouTube account then you can ignore installation of MicroG and continue using iYTBP without an account.
The above is all you need to know.
Again if you need further assistance then hit them up on the original thread I linked above.
For me this app is possibly the very best of what our Android Community offer us (specifically rootless.)
My drive hosts the Black/Red themed version Only, but they also supply a vanilla version (https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620770246) but I think you'll agree BalckRed is niiiiiiice.
Note you may still receive the odd advert (very rare - with my first hand experience) or a quirky UI glitch (specifically perhaps black text on black background anomaly - again very rare)...adopt a little give and take rather then getting annoyed.
Feel obliged to report any issues on the iYTBP thread, they are very accomodating and actually work hard to rectify any issues.
For your future reference: if/when you want to update your version of iYTBP then you'll need to seek out the "arm64 NoDPI Vanced ROOTLESS" version.
(However personally I tend not to fuss about updating this app - if it works it works - I'm not bothered about missing new UI features Google continually add to YouTube
Enjoy

Yes but YouTube is inundated with adverts in its UI and adverts before videos.
This modded/injected version of YouTube "eliminates adverts" and allows for "background playback."
It is a comprehensive modded YouTube app with much desirable features I just detailed.
The OP is relatively self explanatory.
Please read it I'm sure you will make sense of it
If your still lost then read through the iYTBP OP for your clarification:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...cted-youtube-background-t3560900/post71132316
Apologies, I skimmed it ?
Being back to Android after a 5 year break, I am surprised with the amount of complacency in the Android user world that has resulted in so many mainstream apps that inundate everyone with so many garbage ads.
Pretty surprised... ?

Cool, yeh it's hard not to love.
Also check out the baked in iYTB settings (see screenshots).
Specifically VP9 Encoder (http://coconut.co/vp9)
BTW no real necessity to remove the Original YouTube app unless you're struggling for storage space. Otherwise each to there own.
Enjoy

I haven't updated iYTBP from the one used.in the OP if that was what you were referring to.
In turn no update on my device and running well.

Update.
Seems to be an account issue tried a 2nd acc it worked but not on my main acc....
