Hey all I picked up one of the Acer Igonia B1 tablets from Asda yesterday just for giggles. The specs looked reasonable and it really dosent disapoint. You can play a fair few games on this thing without it lagging out.
Video proof:
Hi,
although it is a nice review (though I don't get why you had such a long intro and then said a lot of things again plus the constant "hi" made me feel like it was supposed to be in like 5 different videos, not in one review), I don't think that this tablet is suited for gaming. Now, at 99 pounds, it may be the best thing out there today, however, that is only due to the dualcore processor becoming mainstream (just as one core 1Ghz procesors became before) and Acer is only among the first who gave the dual core to its low end tablets... Now sure, the dual core can run a lot of games but call it a gaming tablet is a bit too much if you ask me. The games you showed were... Well, the Need For Speed was a bit slow, if you ask me (now I'm really sensitive about FPS and I get dizzy if I play a game with 20-24FPS only) and the other games weren't HW demanding at all. For example, the Dead Trigger is excelently optimalized (at least for all the dual cores) but when it comes to more intensive gaming, like GTA, I don't think you're gonna have a good time. It can run a lot of games - today, but after half a year? It's gonna breathe hard not only because of the dual core, but mainly because of only 512MB ram. People from acer didn't sit down and said "well, we need great tablet for the lowest price possible, what can we get" but sat and said "well, what parts can we get for the lowest price?" This is the outcome. I wouldn't really buy that for gaming (at least if it had 1GB ram) but I can see a lot of less demanding people happy with that (dual core is excellent for browsing and "not so hardcore" games).
People want a lot for £99 these days!
Anyway, good review, more in-depth than others I've seen, glad that it can handle many of the popular games & will be picking one up soon enough
Odp: £99 Gaming Tablet - Acer Iconia B1
Could you try order and chaos or modern combat? How is plastic screen in every day use? Is it worth to sell desire hd and buy this thing?

Hey! I bought the tablet 2-3 days ago and I am really satisfied with it. For 3D gaming on the tablet I have tested the following games:
-Order & Chaos Online (Runs with absolutely no lag for me, however, graphics is not as good as it is on iPod and possibly other android devices)
-Shadowgun: Deadzone (Runs smoothly)
-Shadowgun (Same as above)
-Heroes of Order & Chaos (Does lag a bit at some points, but not much and it is playable)
-The Sims: Freeplay (Runs smoothly, but lags at menu screen)
-Six Guns (Runs smoothly, nothing to say on this one)
-Mass Effect: Infiltrator (Runs smoothly, haven't experienced any lag yet)
-Critical Strike: Portable (Runs smoothly)
-Minecraft (Runs smoothly)
I am going to try Modern Combat 3 when it has finished downloading and I will possibly try some other games aswell
Hiya I have this tablet and I've had a few sl101 and a few shanzai tabs and I can say this is one is good at gaming but I was really miffed as the capacative sensor went wonky so after loosing my temper with Acer support I decided to fix myself and it was amazingly easy I didn't have to do much
The back popped off simple and I discovered the black ribbon cable for the sensor was about a 1mm loose at one end and clip wasn't homed so I pushed it in and now its perfect good all rounder tablet I would say not a hardcore gamer tab but you wouldn't expect a 99 quid tab to be awesome
Just my tuppence

I just picked this baby up today, its great! Modern combat 4 works as well as it does on my optimus 4x. Just wish the internal memory was bigger, but if I can persuade my GF to root it I will no longer have that problem very recommended, poor mans nexus 7!

I to just got this tablet and it's okay for the price but found a lot of my games are not compatible with it like gta vice city and gta 3.
And I found that reading is hard to do because of the plastic screen I would say it's a 8 out of 10 tablet.

Update sold it due to compatibility with most apps so lowering my rating to 6 out of 10

Hello everyone, Now, I've just gotten into the Android game. I have a HTC Desire, but I want more (no surprise, )
Normally, I'd post such a question at my favorite forum, but unfortunately, it is down, and I was hoping you guys here could help out.
It's a 7" android 2.3 tablet from a China site: SpeMall.com.
1) It's cheap. Half the price of branded tablets
2) People say that it can out-perform the iPad in certain areas.
3) The size seems to be just about right, a good compromise between portability and legibility
Now, I don't really need all the features that other tablets have, namely the 3g/4g wireless connectivity. I was just looking to use this at home, or at my grandparent's place (Where the computers there are absolutely ancient!) just for web browsing, facebooking, and the occasional game of Angry Birds.
Now, to the question. How does this stand up to other tablets of today? (Examples would be iPad, maybe iPad 2, XOOM, Galaxy Tab (7 inch and 10 inch)
I know that this tablet can be overclocked to 1.3 ghz and more which puts it to the same clock speed as most of today's tablets, except for they have dual core processors. How much of a difference would it make? Also, It can play a lot of high end android games when overclocked (Tegra 2 games?). However, I'm sure all the rooting and overclocking is bound to kill the battery. The original battery is said to last 8 hours with WiFi off. If Overclocked, and with WiFi, can I expect to have 5-6 hours of constant usage? Also, assuming it does last about 5 hours overclocked, I know that there are some kernels that allow for the tablet to be a USB Host, meaning keyboard, camera, and (maybe) mouse support. But such devices require power to be used, so can I expect 3-4 hours?
Thanks for your time to read this long writing, If anybody with a mid-high end android tablet can give some suggestions would be great, tanks a lot!
i wouldn't buy anything off a chinese site TBH, bad experiences in the past.
2.3 tablets? hmm, most on the market are running 3.1 and higher (honeycomb)
so, i can't REALLY say much. bigger question, why would you want a Gingerbread tablet? when honeycomb has been out for almost a year now.
I'm trying to decide between these laptops:

The dv6qe is the more powerful, but doesn't look as nice as the envy or xps14z. I'm going to be doing light processing, and probably playing some games on it. I'm not sure how many, but most likely some Crysis 2, at least. I'm leaning towards the dv6qe, but I wanted to hear from anyone who's bought this laptop, or knows anything about any of them.
goto xoticpc(dot)com and check their lappys(especially sager and MSI ones)
for $939.93 u get intel 3610M(i7 3rd gen) ,nVidia GT 650M graphics card which is far better than ones u suggest and even better than nVidia gt555M,8gb ram, full HD screen. to be precise i'm talking abt this lappy
Sager NP6165
plus its quite customisable and build quality also gud
otherwise buy this Lenovo Y570 08626JU Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB, 15.6-inch, 1GB Video card(nVidia GT 555M) for $749.00
goto lenovo site, find this lappy and apply coupon code USPY56J0531
u also get free shipping
If you're really not in a hurry to buy a laptop, I suggest waiting a month or two for ivy bridge laptops to trickle out. Otherwise, go for the dv6qe, you NEED a discrete graphics card for Crysis 2. Even though it has a AMD cpu, its more than enough...
I agree with VX117, the Ivy's are major energy savers so they should give you longer battery life and are about 10% faster than the Sandy's
As for Crysis on a laptop... you are gonna need some serious GPU power to play that game smoothly on a laptop, think at least GTX660M or higher but these cards are gonna cost ya.
The Dell Laptop you picked has an internal on-board (in processor) graphics chip, you wont be able to play crisis with that.
The other 2 have AMD GPU's onboard, i dont have lots of experience with AMD but me personal would go for Nvidia.
Good luck choosing
Hi Guys,
I want to buy a new Tablet, which is good for gaming. First I decided to the Archos Gamepad, because it's cheap and has controllerbuttons like a psp or any pad of a console. Then, today I saw the Nexus 7, which has a better hardware and is not much more expensive. The tablet would be in use for surfing at home and for gaming at home and at travels. Personally I like the Gamepads design very much, although the nexus is pretty too. Games like Dead Trigger stutters only at the archos one, but not on the Nexus.
Now I don't know which one fits better to me, should I buy the Gamepad because of the Buttons, or the Nexus 7 because of the better Hardware?
I look forward to hear from you
pushing allowed? I'm new here..
Tegra 3 is not much HW better than RK3066 (only CPU performance is better in T3 - 4cores>2cores)
Significan difference is: 44mil polygons/s(Mali400) vs. 129mil polygons/s(T3 GPU)
Hey guys,
I've been looking to get a tablet for a long time now and being the average broke-ass student on the internet, I'm looking for something cheap (i.e. 200$ range). Basically my options are the Iconia A500, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Transformer TF101. However, I heard the dev support for the Iconia isn't perfect, I don't like the build quality of Samsung stuff and so that leaves the Transformer.
Anyways so about the transformer now, I want it for watching movies, surfing the net and playing a few apps and games that currently lag on my aging HD2. How does the tablet fare in this regard? What about this tablets relevance? How long will it be able to handle apps and games before its Tegra 2 hardware shows signs of strain?
Thanks
Can I get some help with this?
As you have probably figured out, this forum is not very active lately since it is nearly a 2 year old device.
I still use mine daily, I am running TeamEOS 4 JellyBean ROM on it and it is just as fast as ever. There are very few games and apps that I run across that do not work because of the Tegra2 chip.
However - here is my advice:
If you want a 10" tablet with a netbook form factor (keyboard dock) and you can get both parts for $200 or so, then it is a fine deal.
If you are just looking for a "tablet" only, I would spring for the Nexus 7 personally. It is $200 for a 16 GB and has the Tegra 3, and is on JB 4.2.2 already. No expandable storage, but other than that it is a great tablet, and at 7" it fits in most pockets so it is quite portable.
Yeah I kinda figured that out lol. That said I don't think age can be the judge of these things, my HD2 is pretty old and is begining to show its age but seems to be handling JB just fine. Back on topic:
1) Working apps is nice, but how well do the apps work? Do they run smooth enough and not crash? Does heavy 3D games run fine and does it heat up the tablet?
2) What about video playback? I plan on watching 720p videos on it. I don't expect mkv to play too well but what about everything else? How do 720p videos look on the 10" screen?
See, basically I just want a great 10" tablet for watching movies, surfing the net and perhaps a few apps that my HD2 can't really run well (3d games mainly). I'm not expecting much at 200$ or a lot from its Tegra 2 but my requirement of 10" is why I have not considered the Nexus 7 or I'd have got that with my eyes closed.
Honestly, I am still impressed with what this thing can do. I am running the TeamEOS 4 ROM (Jelly Bean 4.2.2) and it is just as smooth as my iPhone.
I have my CPU overclocked to 1.4 GHz (up from the stock 1.0 GHz). It runs pretty smoothly and is a good balance. I have run it at 1.5 and 1.6 GHz on some older ROMs (MattmanWRX CM10/PA hybrid) with great success but on the EOS 4 it gets some random reboots and sleep of death if I run at 1.6. Also, at 1.6 it gets a bit warm. 1.4 stays pretty cool, maybe slightly warm if you game for a while.
Here is a video I just shot of the benchmark of the game Epic Citadel. The framerates tend to be between 20 and 30 FPS, 24 FPS is about as fast as the human eye can see so it is quite smooth IMO.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7tlCgE1Hyg
I play 720p mkv files on it all the time. They run quite smoothly using MX Player. If the video is created with crazy high frame rates (50+ FPS) then it can struggle, but considering the 24 Hz limit of the eye, never had an issue with that. Even 1080p mkv @ 24 Hz play smoothly.
And a sample of a 720p mkv played on my TF101:
http://youtu.be/6b-WSArGeFg
The tf101 is great depending on the price, here in new zealand you can get a new tf300t cheaper than a new tf101, in that case there's no point in getting the tf101. As for performance compared to the terga 3 other than heavy 3d games the difference is unnoticeable and in same case beats its terga 3 rivals, as for the overall android experience u'd never suspect this device is 2 years old and came with honeycomb installed, it defiantly sports jelly bean as well as much newer devices.
My main issue with the tf101 is looks and feel compared to newer transformers, newer ones have rounded edges, slimmer and better external design (this would be the only reason id upgarde in the next 6 months). But newer transformers lack 2 usb ports (only have 1) and i believe the tf101 has louder/better sound due to dual speakers
To summarize if your struggling to spend extra money on a tf300t - tf700 (provided the tf101 isnt more expensive lol) id get the tf101 happily.

Thank you so much for thr videos, this is exactly what I wanted to see and also solves the two doubts I had on its capabilities. I don't plan on playing 1080p as that would pointless but I trust that everything else (other video formats) play fine at 720p right? This is actually pretty good for a 2 year old tablet. I was under the impression that with the Nexus 4 and other newer tablets, these first gen Tegra 2 tablets would be struggling to run modern apps.
Also, 24fps is not as fast as the eye can see. That would be 90fps+ actually.

Thanks JoinTheRealms, I'm importing these tablets from America and it certainly doesn't appear to have tf300t cheaper. In my search I tried hunting for the tf300ts first actually but they were 250$+ and slightly out of my budget and so I gave up. But that reminds me, about the USB.
---
How good is the keyboard dock? I see that it has an extended battery, USB ports and a MicroSD slot but is it absolutely necessary? I don't want to get it if possible, cause the keyboard dock is a good 30$ ~ 50$ extra (bringing it in TF300T territory). There are USB kits on ebay that seem to be going for like 10$ max but do those work well enough? I will be connecting my pen drive to the tablet a lot for watching movies.

I stand corrected, but at the same time 24 FPS is "fluid" motion for most users. If you get below 20 FPS it can look a bit jerky.
Also, the games that are designed for faster processors (Tegra 3 for example) are simply not availble to install on the Tegra 2 devices. Some games (like ShadowGun) has a Tegra 2 version (ShadowGun) and a Tegra 3 (ShadowGun THD)

I think the Keyboard dock is great, you get a real keyboard and 2 USB port along with an SD slot. I have a 64 GB microSD and a 64 GB SD card. And it gives the extra battery and a real keyboard.
However, many users do not feel the need to have or use the keyboard dock. I know quite a few users who have never had a dock and just use a USB adapater when they need it. Most of them seem to work pretty well.

Well my post kind of was all about the tf101 plus dock, its kind of the same story with the whole transformer line, they are all about the keyboard dock. Personally i cant stand tablets on their own, 95% of the time my tf101 is used as a net-book kind of thing. The keyboard dock effectively doubles the battery life to something like 16 hours, the usb/ sdcards are handy as well but the main thing for me is you can comfortably sit it in your lap and use it with one hand whereas with normal tablet you would normally hold it with one hand and control it with the other.
Although If your not interested in the keyboard dock id say there are probably many better options (probably tegra 3 options) for a standalone tablet.

Agreed, if I just wanted a tablet only, I would go for a N7. Even though it is only a 7" tablet, it has the same resolution as most 10" tablets and is a lot more portable.

Hmm its sad that I'd be locked out from the newer tegra games but I guess thats okay. Well thats good news. Anyways two last and simple queries:
1: Can I flip the display vertically and use the device upside down cause the usb kit does look like it would get in the way if it were placed at the bottom like that?
2: If I plugged in a pen drive to the tablet via the USB, I can easily copy-paste files from the pen drive to the internal storage right?

I understand what you'll guys are trying to suggest but I don't really want the keyboard dock. The whole point of this tablet is multimedia usage and I'd hate to spend extra on a keyboard which I don't know if I'd be using a lot. Sure its nice thats it got a usb and sd card slot but I'd rather grab a stand and use the tablet as a tablet rather than a netbook or else I'd save more and get a cheap Fusion netbook.
Actually I don't think there are better options. The TF101 seems to have the best screen, build quality and dev support from the first gen tablets and for 200$, I think its pretty good. However I am keeping the Iconia A200 as an option too as it seems to be going for a very tempting 150$s. N7 is out simply cause I don't want just 7" or I'd take it no questions asked lol.

1 - Most apps, yes. There are some apps that may force the normal charger port on the bottom, but very few.
2 - Yes, the in built file manager has drag and drop from the external (microSD and USB drives) to the internal.
Hey guys i am an gonna go for engineering this year
I need a tablet in 2-3 weeks
Minimum requirement:
9-10 inch screen
Good display
Fast processor
About 32gb total memory
Good battery atleast 5-6 hours web surfing
I would be doing a lot of web surfing and gaming on it
Games like gta, nfs, candy crush, asphalt , few shooting games too
Taking notes sometimes
Budget is no problem but would like to spend less than 50000 rupees approx. $800
Will be buying from india
Pls suggest a tablet
Nexus 10: google.de/nexus/10/
If you can live with a slightly smaller screen: iPad Mini or Nexus 7(2nd edition)
I have the Nexus 7 1st edition(so 2nd should be even better) and use it for engineering school. The screen is pretty good(though cracked now-.-), it's fast, 32GB, pretty cheap for what you get. You can't however put in an SD card :/ But OTG USB Stick.
No problem with 5-6 hours surfing. I played both GTA 3 and GTA Vice City on it. Note taking is a bit of a hassle, since you can't use a proper pen. I just typed in my notes with a keyboard and used my finger to draw... If you want something with a pen, my friend has a Galaxy Nexus 10.1 and as far as I've seen, it works very well.
I cant do with a smaller screen thats the problem
I need a 10 inch
Thanks i ll check nexus 10
How about taking a look at Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 P5220....

Wow! $800 Dollars on a tablet?! that would be nice, i think you would be Perfectly fine with the Samsung Galaxy note 10.1" or 12.2" the 12.2" is around $749 on amazon while the 10.1" is around $500, both have a 1.9ghz octa core processor, i think both start at 32gigs, great displays.
You can also try the xperia z tablet, or if you are patient- wait for the release of the xperia z2

They all have some pros and cons- so it pretty much depends on yor personal taste and main requirements. Here is a very good comparison made by GSMArena (with separate review for each one): http://m.gsmarena.com/tablet_shopping_guide_december_2013-review-1019p6.php
