[Q] Vibration; short for notification, long for call - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is there a way, by default or via app, for me to set different vibration settings for notifications vs. calls?
My problem is that the vibration setting for emails is too long. Each email produces a long, three second vibration. Even if I make a custom short-burst vibration in settings>sound>device vibration, I still get a long vibration for emails. The custom vibration that I created only triggers when I'm getting a call.
So, I guess my question is: Is there some way for me to customize the vibration pattern for notifications?

Try Light Flow.

Pretty sure it allows you to customize both the LED and vibration settings on a per app basis.

Phone set to vibrate doesn't actually vibrate for texts

This seems like the dumbest thing in the world. How come the phone will not vibrate for texts when set on the Vibration sound profile if you don't have it set to normally vibrate when the notification sound is set to normal?
I don't need it to vibrate when I get a notification sound, but if I set my phone to vibrate, I expect it to vibrate for every single damn notification/call/etc, regardless of what it's set to in the Normal sound profile. It should override all normal settings.
You're right. Its been a feature of AOSP since eclair. Wonder why HTC removed that option.
do you have the box checked in messaging settings to vibrate when messages are received?

Click to collapse
no, as I said, when I have my sound on, I don't need it to vibrate. It just baffles me that this doesn't automatically come on when the phone is set to Vibrate.

[Q] Sound and Vibration Management

Hello to all,
Company I work for has finally moved from mandatory issued BB's to BYOD. But, I have to admit, the BB Profile Management is very good and lets you tweak most everything regarding sound, vibration, and LED.
My goal with this post is to discover if it is possible create an APP that will interface/manage the sound, vibration, and LED on my Android device.
I have a an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 SGH-I317 at version 4.1.2.
I very much would like to have similar Profile Management like BB. There are a lot of apps out there, but so far the ones I have review fall short of managing vibration.Profile Flow and Llama are good, but very short of what I want to do.
I want to create this app for myself as a challenge.
Also it appears that the only hope of doing this is to first root the device, which I have done so on mine.
In case you are not familiar with the BB Profile Management, below is a matrix of what a user can do.
For the most part, BB Apps (Phone, Calendar, TODO list, events, notifications, alarm, alerts, E-mail, SMS, etc...) that have anything to do with sound, vibration, and LED will be listed in the Profile Manager.
When you create a Profile, in that profile you can control the following.
Sound: For each app you can have a separate Volume Level, None, Progressively Louder Volume, or Tone in the selected Profile.
Vibration: For each app you can have a separate Vibration scheme; no vibration, number of vibration pulses in the selected.
LED: For each app, you can have a separate LED scenario; color, flash rate for the selected Profile.
In some case, you can control the combination of Vibration and Tones:
1. Vibrate and Sound at the same time.
2. Vibrate for x number of pulses and Sound for 5 seconds together.
3. Vibrate for x number of pulses, then Sound for 5 seconds after the Vibration has stopped.
Examples:
Night:
Phone Call, vibrates first, then rings (with its own sound file), gets louder over time.
Alarm Clock, vibrates and Rings (different sound file), gets louder.
Alerts, short tone, no vibration.
Meeting:
All sounds off
Vibrates only for e-mail, and text messages from Family Group
Outside:
Crank it all up
I think I got the point across.
So the $1m ?
Can this be done, can an app intercept request to the speaker, vibrator, and led and modify what it does based on a configured Profile?
I am looking forward to your response.
Thanks
Have a Great Android Day
Keith

Incoming SMS messages not triggering the vibration

I can't figure this one out. I have a H830 running 20i non rooted.
Sometimes incoming text messages don't trigger the vibration. The screen comes on and shows the pop up message. It just doesn't trigger the vibration. I have no problem receiving messages. They just don't always give the vibration alert.
It's intermittent with no pattern. Sometimes it'll work while the phone is in a deep Doz sleep. Sometimes it won't. Sometimes it'll work when the phone is active with the screen on and sometimes it won't.
I have the problem on the stock messenger, Chomp SMS and Next SMS. (Not running them simultaneously.. Stock SMS is disabled. Only one 3rd Party SMS installed at a time. Same thing happens on stock with no 3rd party SMS apps). The settings in the apps are properly set to send a vibration alert. It just don't work every time.
Occasionally it'll even give me a super short single vibration, almost like a keypress vibration. That's instead of the 3 long vibrations pattern I have set.
I don't believe it's a hardware issue. The vibration motor works 100% of the time if I purposely trigger it by turning out 'vibrate on keypress' or turn the system volume to vibrate or run any vibration test. So the motor is fine. The controller is fine. It's just SMS's that don't seem to send the alert to the system to trigger the vibration motor.
I cannot figure this out. I've made the SMS apps persistent and allowed them to be ignored in the battery optimizations in case the app wasn't waking in time.
Any ideas?

Is there a way to customize vibration notifications?

So on my LG G4 I was able to customize vibrations for different types of notifications. For example, if I received a SMS or MMS I had it set to vibrate 3 long times. If it was a email it would be 1 long time. If it was a calendar notification it would have 2 short vibrations. And so on and so forth. I'm wondering if there is a setting or a quality app that can do this for our S8's?

I can't set WhatsApp notifications with no sound, no vibration but with LED activated

Hi, after upgrading to Nougat (my phone uses an almost Vanilla Android), I can't set the WhatsApp notifications the way I've had them forever. In the past, no matter what mode was selected (sound, vibration or muted), when I received a message, the LED would turn on green, no sound, no vibration.
Now in Nougat, if the WhatsApp tone is set to "silence" (inside WhatsApp options), the LED won't work. Period.
1. If I select sound mode AND set WhatsApp tone to any sound: the LED works, but the phone also vibrates and sounds. VERY inconvenient.
2. If I select vibrate mode AND set WhatsApp tone to any sound: the LED works, but the phone also vibrates, equally inconvenient.
In all cases, the option "vibrate" in the WhatsApp options is OFF, but this option seems to be totally ignored.
Is this WhatsApp fault?
That means this happen to all of you as well.
Is this my phone's company fault?
That means this only happens to me because it's a bug of my ROM.
If I go to Android settings, Notifications and select the option "receive silent" notifications in WhatsApp, it is like selecting tone "silent" in WhatsApp, no LED, no sound, no vibration.
I'm quite pissed off of the new notification management of Nougat, it's so confuse and it was way simpler before.
