Experience with AOSP device encryption? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Has anyone had good luck with encrypting your phone? Does TWRP 2.4 play nice with stock encryption? i.e. can I decrypt my SD card in recovery?

Q: Oxygen OS and encryption

I would like to ask regarding oxygen and encryption. My device is running oxygen and it is encrypted. Can i actually change my ROM to other such as cm, PA or resurrection remix without have to full wipe my disk?Including the media like photos and songs stored in the device.
I basically know how to flash other ROM, it should be clean installed but now I got confused because my device is encrypted. Pls let me know or just what is your thoughts in this...
I would strongly recommend to not only make a nandroid before switching roms on encrypted devices, but also copy everything on your internal storage (internal sdcard) to a seperate device (computer). Switching roms on encrypted devices is unpredictable. If the rom that you are upgrading to handles the device encryption differently, your internal storage may get corrupted. I even encountered this while switching from one cm12.1 rom to another (you can read an example here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61194295&postcount=266

New ROM and internal storage

Hi there,
Just a small question: When I install a custom ROM, does it keep my data on the internal storage? I'm asking because of the encryption and I thought it could happen, that the new/custom ROM is not able to decrypt this part of the data.
Thanks
I haven't done enough flashing on my Pixel to say with certainty one way or another, but I believe it does keep the internal storage data between ROM flashes just fine. However, I don't fool with anything but PureNexus as far as custom ROMs, so it might depend on what ROM you're coming from and going to. I never flash anything major without backing up internal storage, anyway, and that's what I would suggest. After all, for every rule there's always an exception and it's better not to regret. Good luck!

TWRP: decryption of data partion NOT working, but Android's decryption is fine

Hi all,
I have a problem with decryption of the data partion within TWRP. The password (PIN or pattern) for decryption within TWRP that I set up within Android is not recognized as correct. However, decryption within Android works fine.
After fresh install of latest Sony build 41.3.A.2.75 (F8331_Telekom.de DE_1305-4974_41.3.A.2.75_R2E) that I downloaded with XperiFirm V5.3.6, I created a .ftf file that I flashed with latest FlashTool V0.9.24.4.
Then I tried to flashed different versions of TWRP (3.1.1-0 and 3.2.1-0) via fastboot, boot into Oreo and set up the encryption. Booting again into TWRP and decryption is not working. No matter what kind of password method I choose or even rotating an easy password pattern (+90°,-90°,180°).
My final goal is to use the eXistenZ Oreo v3.0.0 F8331 patch.
Does anyone have the same issue? Or, where is the bug?
Thanks for help!
Dan

What do you mean with not compatible? TWRP is working fine without device encryption on my Xperia, just decryption of data partition within TWRP does not work.
Right now I am installing apps and configuring them. When I am done with all, I will make a final last backup within TWRP and finally enable device encryption at the end.
With the result, that I have no read/write access to my data partition, but at least my device is encrypted, which is more important to me than having the access to the data partition within TWRP.
I was reading in another XDA forum of another device, that some have the same problem with Android Oreo and TWRP.
So, can someone confirm this bug? Or have a solution for this? I am guessing that the latest version of TWRP have a general problem with decryption on some devices.

TWRP Shows Encrypted SD Card

I am rooted and I tried Android Pie Open beta 2 for a few days and decided to go back to 5.1.11.
I installed the full rom of 5.1.11 and then installed twrp 3.2.2 then reboot to recovery.
It did not ask for my pin and shows a encrypted SD card.
I tried several ways, like load twrp.img from adb, twrp decrypt passwword, but it does not help.
I am wondering if anyone knows how to decrypt the SD card. Otherwise I have to format the SD card and start from scratch.
Thanks a lot

Ye format is the only way now that you have gone back. There is about 5 threads about this specific topic with more info if you feel you need it

Question TWRP Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps + 0 Mb storage

I have ArrowOS 12 installed, with 11 the updates went well but now if I try to update i get the messages in the title. I tried to repair the filesystem, changed it from ext4 to ext2 and ext4 back again, wipe basically everything, can't restore anything, really have no idea of what I should do more.
TWRP is on 3.5.2_11.0, I have no personal files on the phone so anything is ok.

All custom recoveries (TWRP, OrangeFox) cannot decrypt Android 12 data in the meantime, so you will not see any internal storage and cannot mount.
If you want your data, you can try ArrowOS 11, restore data into ArrowOS 11, make sure data works in ArrowOS 11 system boot, then flash ArrowOS 12 without format data.
Some said you can do that, but there's chance it will fail, but since your phone has no personal files, you can try.
There is update of TWRP 3.6.0_11.0

Thanks man, does this mean there is no effective way to update the OS on android 12 in any way, no custom roms at least? In that case I'm very confused as to why the update button even is there

Custom recoveries cannot decrypt internal storage, but can read microSD cards and USB OTG. Remember Poco X3 Pro has microSD slot.
You can also use ADB sideload command in custom recoveries to flash zip files, so ROM updates can be installed this way.
Almost all function of custom recoveries are working, except decrypting internal storage.
