Dead Power Button - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My power button is failing on me.. I can't use it anymore and it opens up the power menu randomly once every couple 10ish seconds and also turns off the screen without my input! I currently have a [Go To Sleep] tile on cm10.1 and volume button wake as a work around. Is there a way to disable the power button completely?

[Q] Wake from sleep using any button ?

Anyone found app that would wake the transformer from sleep using any button not just the power button ?
None of those apps I'm using on my Nexus will work
Thanks
why? the only 2 other buttons are right beside the power button....
Every other device I had suffered from power button fatigue

Unfortunate power button conflict

Out-of-the-box, it seems only the power button will wake the Skyrocket up. I've also changed my accessibility settings so that the power button ends calls.
Guess what happens when your screen turns off during a call and you need to turn it back on to, say, unmute the conference call you were listening in on. Yup. You guessed it. It hangs up.
No other buttons were coded stock to wake the phone except the power button. There are mods that allow using the volume buttons to wake the phone if it's a continuing issue.

Are there any apps that enable volume rocker wake?

Thanks in advance!
WidgetLocker has the ability
Just tried it, checked the box in settings, but no dice
Uninstalled and got a refund.
Any others?
no lock?
or
Screen Off and Lock?
Thanks, already tried both of them because they worked on my og evo, but no such luck
Coming from the galaxy s2 I do miss the power button on the side, hoping to find a solution still

Actually, I used to have a Nexus One and the power button was broken. To circumvent that, I had to use an app called AnyUnlock. I turned the screen on with the volume rocker and you could also use a widget to turn the screen off (rather than using the power button to turn the screen off). Which I suppose could be useful if you have smaller fingers or something and didn't want to make the reach. Very, very useful app when your power button stops functioning.

I'm sure it uses the same method that the other apps use and it even says in the description on their app page that it only works on Froyo and GB.
Yea seems like all of them don't work with ics urrrrrrrrr

Volume Rocker Wake works on CM9 Alpha 5
I've been using CM9 Alpha 5 for a few hours now and it's great !
The first think I set was the Volume Rocker Wake as the Power Button is not as easy to press when using most cases covering the power button.
To enable it, go to SETTING --> DISPLAY --> VOLUME ROCKER WAKE
it enables waking the phone by pressing the volume rocker EITHER up/down.
There is no way to specify one or the other
However, it works great ! I'm really liking CM9, my only complaint is the missing HTC Camera which was just amazing with the hardware burst (I'm still looking for a way to flash it if that's even possible).

Nexus S 4g - Disable broken power button?

I've already read through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596085 and used this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1524858 for remapping my search button to my power button, along with using volume for wake. I have done both of these, and that works just fine.
But, my problem is a little different.
My original power button didn't just stop working, it is actually malfunctioning. Meaning that the power button is being hit at random times, even when I don't press it (or the search button which is now my power button). It is extremely annoying and difficult to use the phone.
Does anyone know of a way to disable the power button completely? I'll settle to using search for off and volume buttons for wake, but I need a way to disable the original power button. The button remapper app from the thread above includes a way to remap or disable every button, except the original power button.
Thanks for your help
It says it all in the second link you posted. Read it all.

No.
Like I said, I want to DISABLE the power button completely, because it's malfunctioning. I have ALREADY remapped it to the search key, but the original power button keeps pressing itself, turning the screen on and off, bringing up the boot menu, etc.
The button remapper app allows you remap or disable every button EXCEPT the power button. So while you can remap search to be power, you couldn't remap power to be search (or in my case, disable power completely).
Anyone?
You would have to physically disable the button yourself.
I don't think its possible to fully power off your phone, but what you can do is map the volume up or down buttons as a wake key. I myself want to do this and am still searching for the solution, but if you want to take a crack at it:
The file buttons you want to edit should be in here. somewhere(system/user/keylayout) Root explorer can help you edit the layout without changing the format. That's as far as I can take you for now

[GUIDE] Change wakeup key to the 3d toggle button (MODS PLease move to development

Do you ever felt that you have too small hands for the o3d? Or you just don't like to stretch your finger all the way to the top for unlocking your device? Then you should try this. With this tweak you can unlock the device with a click on the 3d button.
You can only do this in recovery with mounted system and ADB.
In adb *adb pull /system/usr/keylayout/omap-keypad.kl C:\
Open the file in wordpad and you get a list with different buttons. Scroll down to
3D_HOT_KEY
change it to
3D_HOT_KEY WAKE
Save the file and push it back to your phone
*adb push C:\ omap-keypad.kl /system/usr/keylayout/omap-keypad.kl
REBOOT YOUR DEVICE!
You can also assign other buttons the wake up function e.g the volume rocker by adding the line WAKE after it
GOOD LUCK
It does not work, maybe it works when the phone is connected with cable but when it is in deep sleep mode it does not work at all.
Yeah i noticed that now. You can lock it and within about 20 sec you can unlock it with the 3d button but then it enters deep sleep.
Did you try it?

Yes I have been trying to do this for a quite a time now nothing seems to be working. I hope you find a way to do it power button is soldered not the part of motherboard itself so if it breaks you are in trouble. I don't understand why LG made this kind of mistake.
I also tried to edit the qwerty.kl but it had the same results. One way would be to write a script that prevents the phone to enter deep sleep but i guess it would drain alot of battery. Am i right?
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
Exactly my friend that will drain the battery. I think maybe they'll review this problem in upcoming ICS update.
But how if the power button is not connected to the software ?
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
I don't know I was to wishing they might resolve this issue.
I've noticed that when you plug your headset in that you can press the headset button and the music will start. And beacouse the music is on the phone is not in deep sleep mode and then you can press the 3d button to wake the screen. So if I could somehow make the 3d button act like the headset and not start the music when I press it then this should work!

It won't work that way.
When the music is playing, it's not in deep sleep mode as you stated.
If you want to use the 3D Button to wake it instead, why not switch the Power Button and the 3D Button functions.
Power Button = 3D function
3D Button = Power function
So the power button is then connected to the motherboard and the software?

Not necessarily.
The power button will function as the power button when off, but when on, the functions change.
