Please I am super new to most of what I am trying to do with my phone and I pretty much have two thirds of it down. I have my stock and current rom backed up, contacts as well as my apps with tibu.
I am successful wiping and clean flashing the selected rom and I get it to install no problem. My biggest problem is when I go to restore apps with tibu it says that my Id
Number has changed and I am left with 3 options accept new Id, ask me later, and restore my old/ original one. Now when I pressed restore original it immediately rebooted me and it when restarted
It brought me to a disoriented lock screen that would not unlock.
I am currently running clean rom 5.5.1 and tried to install galaxy mod rl 15 on my Verizon galaxy s3
Any comments or help offered would be greatly appreciated

Your most likely trying to restore a system app or data. This is fine if your on the same rom but will only cause problems when your restoring to another rom. Backup only apps you have installed and use mybackup pro or go backup for sms mms call logs and the such. If you do this you won't see that issue arise again

On galaxy mod you need to disable ripple effect in lock screen options due to use of a custom lockscreen. Do a battery pull, reboot and go straight to settings and disable that and you will be good.

He is on stock and CR so he doesn't have the lock screen problem others face. His problem stems from system apps being restored on a different rom

My real question is when in titanium fresh after a flash with intentions on restoring my app only no data it stops me and says "your id # has changed, would you like to accept new number, ask me later, or restore original and when I restored old id # it rebooted me and locked me at the lock screen and would not allow me to unlock resulting in a battery pull and a restore of original rom what am I supposed to be doing to get past this ignore it change a setting in titanium or accept new number and does that hurt or change any thing on my phone

Seems like the ID is used by some apps to keep track of devices their software is installed on. Not restoring it will muck up some.
This was added to TIBU months ago on all fresh installs of TIBU. It is there to allow you to access games and such that you have been banned from as they use this ID to mark your account. Just hit the restore previous. It wii reboot and all will be good.
OK maybe some one could point in the right direction of how to back up android id and by the way everyone has been super helpful thank you guys a ton

So I changed ROMs and forgot to wipe the secure element so I went on googles site and reset my device that way.
It said it couldn't do it so I restored a backup with wallet already configured.
It's been stuck on Initalizing device for an hour, if I uninstall it, it gets stuck on Adding Account...
And my device is still not reset according to google. Did I **** up?
Did you backup before changing roms?

No, but I had a backup with my secure element from the very first time.
It's stuck on initializing or adding account if I do a fresh install.
I've searched around to no avail.
Is that backup before or after you logged into wallet? Like I made a backup of a rom immediately after I logged into wallet, now if I forget to reset wallet and flash a rom I can restore that backup, reset wallet in the restore then re flash whatever new rom and ill be good.

After. But it still doesn't work.
Also I get a [DF-BPA-21] error whenever I try to purchase any apps. It doesn't even recognize apps that I have purchased in the past.
IV had to try multiple roms to fix it on my own even roms that previously worked wouldn't but then the next one did. I had it hang at initializing also at adding card. My best advice, even tho you have tried is restore, reset wallet, wipe data/cache/system/dalvik, then try a couple different roms that have wallet working or flash the files via cwm that enable wallet I can link you if you need. I'm really sorry if none of this works I know every situation is unique

Did you use a method that changed the build prop to make wallet work and then after you loaded your cards did you change your build prop back? If so you may have made your nandroid after changing the build prop back to factory. If so try redoing the gw hack.

Does anyone know how to prevent a software update on a rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0? *
My tablet auto updated to the new Jelly Bean about 3 wks ago and I hated it. *I have since restored my wonderful tablet back to the ICS 4.0 it came with and rooted it. *But 2 days ago it auto downloaded the software update again and will only allow me to postpone the update rather than completely refuse it.
I do not want to have to go through the whole process again. *Does anyone know how I can prevent the update from happening? *TY!

Hooray - it seems to have worked! I wasn't able to find the specific file name you mentioned, but I did freeze 2 "system update" files and that has removed the update notification from my notify list and also doesn't open the update postponed window any longer from the about/software update settings either. Thank you so much, MultipleMonomials, ty, ty!
Still having problems...
Well, it seems I spoke too soon regarding my last post. All seemed to work well after freezing two "system update" files using ROM Toolbox Pro. However, after shutting my tablet down that night and turning it back on in the morning, I have since been locked up at the Samsung logo screen. I've spent the past few days trying to research my options, did the fix permissions, reset to factory default, tried restoring backups (which I didn't have), all that stuff, and I am having no luck whatsoever.
I can boot into CWM6 Recovery mode and also boot into download mode, but otherwise, I cannot get it to load past the Samsung logo and I'm officially stumped now.
Can anyone offer some suggestions as to what I should try next?

I'm back up and running and with the ICS that I wanted. I'm one happy camper! :victory:
So after 6 months of perfectly working NON rooted phone, I decided to root my Verizon Galaxy S3. I previously owned a Moto Droid 2 and rooted and had no problems ever. Unfortunately, within hours of a successful root, I made the mistake of downloading ROM manager (since it worked fine on my Droid 2) and tried installing the first listed AOKP custom ROM. It rebooted and did everything that was expected, until it just hung on the boot up screen for over an hour. I then decided to (for better or worse) pull the battery and just boot into recovery. Unfortunately, this brought me to a message from Verizon saying "you are doing bad things, bring your phone to Verizon" (more or less anyway). So I fixed that much by getting the factory image/reboot and installing via Odin. My problem now is it constantly keeps failing/closing android process every minute or so. I can't navigate it long enough to do anything before it fails again and takes me back to lock screen followed by home screen. When I boot to recovery, it says I have no files to restore either, but I KNOWWW for a fact I did a backup through CWM before I did ANYTHING involving any custom ROMs. PLEASE help me! Ask any and all related questions that will help you and I'll do my best to answer them.
Can you check your file system and see if your CWM folder has a backup? It should be Sdcard/CWM or extsdcard/CWM. If not, do you mind flashing another rom or that same rom?

2 questions: Which factory image did you use to restore (link to thread)? Did you change the default backup location in CWM (ie, did you backup to the external sd or the internal - internal is default)?
There is a file in both extsdcard and sdcard with clock work mod back up. I did manage to factory reset and re root, so phone is functional again, just with none of my apps or settings. I have a feeling I'm going to need to un root in order to re receive my JB update too?

Didn't unlock bootloader?
I don't know for sure. I unzipped SU plus bootloader file exactly as specified in forums/video. Had no problems until I tried installing that ROM through ROM manager. And forgive me for trying that. I hadn't rooted in over a year. But main problem now is just that I want to recover how my phone was ie settings and set up if possible.

That sounds about the right size for a backup. When you go into CWM and do the restore (or restore from external - which ever has that folder, you didn't say) it doesn't show a backup?
What version of CWM are you running?
It's version CWM6023touchvzw.tar.md5. And it's on the external. But no matter which option of restore I choose in the recovery boot, it says file not found.

Maybe after all that flashing and Odin-ing your recovery install got wanked, somehow.
Let's try this: it will re-install the latest CWM, clean and then let's see if it'll recognize your backups.
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/
download the touch image for the d2vzw (or just click here)
put that in the root of your internal sd card.
Open up terminal emulator on your phone and type the following:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-d2vzw.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot recovery
(partition 18 is your recovery partition)
That'll push the known good CWM to your recovery partition and boot you into it. It won't mess with any sort of data anywhere else on the phone.
Alright, thanks. I'll give this a try after I get back home from work.

Hey Guys - I am out of ideas and think my run with the charge might be coming to an end.
My phone is running FP8 stock ROM, rooted, with some apps frozen using TiBu. I have not issues with this set up since the update was pushed. I used tweak for a year or so, then went back to stock for FP8.
A few days ago my phone started to act weird. Widgets were not updating, apps randomly force closing. It was annoying but still usable. I decided to do a factory reset and then everything hit the fan. When I boot up the phone every app on my phone force closes and it is not usable. The "Setup Wizard" also force closes so I can not even get past that.
I have tried flashing other ROMs including Eclipse, tweaked, EP4 with pit, etc.The flash is successful but the force closes persist. I have also tried wiping data through stock recovery and CWM, but I do not think it works. I still see force close errors when the phone boots of apps that should have been wiped (twitter,TiBu, etc.). Anything else I can try? Pretty desperate as it looks like this thing might be toast.
Cliffs
Phone acting weird, reset data multiple times and everything force closes. Phone is not usable at all.
Tried wiping data but does not seem to work, downloaded apps still force close
Flashed different ROMS (both stock w/ pit and custom)
Still force closing. Help?
If the force closes are persisting even though data is wiped, you may have something nasty sticking around through dirty flashes (assuming you're flashing over the old). Make sure you clear all caches and if that doesn't work, it's a shot in the dark but you may want to try formatting the system partition through CWM and then reinstalling FP8 or whatever custom ROM you want. Whatever you do have backups ready...

Thanks for the idea. I am pretty sure I have already tried this but through CWM I will clear cache, davlik cache, data, and format system then try a flash of stock with .pit
Like you said, it seems like whatever is causing this is still sticking around even after all this clearing/flashing. Is there any way to clear these things through adb? Or would getting a log be worth my time?
If all else fails try odin.

I have tried flashing ROMS (stock and custom) through ODIN and to no avail. I am able to flash but it still does not overwrite the corrupted data. I still get force close errors for downloaded apps that should have been erased/over written. Even formatted my SD card just to be sure and didn't help.
Seems like my only option may be to somehow find and delete the data through ADB. Clearing through CVM and stock recovery is not doing anything. Problem is I do not know where this old/bad data is!

Never heard of PST when you posted that. Good idea, but I just tried a few flashes and the effect was no different than ODIN/CWM
This problem keeps getting weirder. So sometimes I am able to get through into the phone (even though I get force close pop ups every 2 seconds). I was able to uninstall most of the apps causing the FCs (not all because some are the system apps).
However, everytime the phone reboots the apps come back! Where in the hell are they being cached/stored to just magically re-appear after data wipes/flashes/un-installs. Seems like I have all these corrupted apps that I can not get rid of. Through terminal emulator I cleared data, and davlik but didn't help.
Have you pulled your sd card and sim then checked if it would boot. Also wipe internal sd from stock recovery

Yea, eventually I can get it to boot but the phone is not usable with all the force closing. The option to clear internal SD only seems to be available for the older ROMS, but I flashed ED1 and cleared it. No luck.

Yep I have turned them off. My settings also get reset however when I clear data, reboot, re flash etc.
Good question about the full EP4 ODIN. I have been using the ones from imnuts website, and have also tried the CWM packages from kvswim's thread in the development section. Tried Eclipse Beta 2 & EP4,EE4,ED1, FP8 stock. I also tried the CM10 ROM just to see if the change to ext file system would do anything. Not sure if any of them are labled as having rom, kernal and radios, but I would imagine at least a few of them are.
No matter what I do, I get outsmarted and all my corruped apps, settings and force closes remain.
I think you can skip activation after flashing ep4 and still get the ota's to get to fp1, fp5 and finally fp8. once there try activation, etc. Keep it purely stock no root. still fc's? IMHO your phone storage is hosed.

To skip activation - on the setup screen click on the Emergency Dial button. Once at the dialer, dial:
*#TESTMODE (or *#83786633)
That will "enable the soft keys", making it so you can then hit home to get to the launcher without activating.

Pretty cool! Didn't know I could do that. However once getting past that just about every app continues to force close including tw launcher.
Being that old apps & settings will continue to be restored after doing everything possible to get rid of them it must be a hardware issue.
Oh well, I will keep the phone around for the hell of it but guess it's time I look into something new.
UPDATE: 07-04-14 5:25pm EST:
I was able to get all my data off using a mac. I re-flashed Purity ROM after doing a full wipe. I have now re-installed all most of my apps and have begun normal use. For now this is resolved hopefully I have no further issues. Thanks for the response @Kreateablaze Much appreciated.
So here is a brief history about what I did and what I am experiencing. I am pretty much a newb here so please be gentle and excuse my ignorance.
Just in case you don't want to read my book below:
TLDR: rooted phone, Installed TWRP, installed Purity Rom, system failed hardcore, cant get data off my phone because explorer crashes. I just want to get my data off so I can re-install a ROM or just flash back to stock and re-lock the bootloader.....
-Unlocked bootloader, rooted, and installed TWRP using "Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit"
(just want to give props to any one involved in that tool, it is an amazing tool and worked flawlessly!)
-After running the toolkit, I was successfully rooted and running TWRP.
-I ran a back up using TWRP. Is that what is referred to as a "Nandroid" back up?
-After running this back up I installed "Purity ROM"
-For the first 24 hours everything was fine.
-I had to reboot my N5 due to an app that was acting up and a reboot usually cleared up the issue if force stopping didn't. (an app I used before rooting and I knew how to fix the issue I was having, I don't think this is related to my issue.)
-After rebooting the phone, I was faced with a pop up stating something along the lines of android UI has stopped working. I clicked okay, unlocked the phone it flashed black with my home screen icons and everything went back to normal. I rebooted the phone again just to make sure that was a one time fluke. This time The phone was in an endless crash cycle. Every process I could think of was crashing non stop the phone was unusable. I did some research and found something that said to go into TWRP and run a permissions repair.
-After running permissions repair my phone booted back up and was working relatively okay.
-After the repair rebooting my N5 results in that same UI crash I got the first time. BUT the phone is usable, and that process never crashes again unless I reboot.
-After running that permissions repair some of my apps disappeared. Trying to re-install them results in a -24 error. I got a few of them to re-install by clearing related data in data/data folder. A few of my apps refuse to re-install even though there is no trace of the data in the data/data folder.
-Another issue I am having after all of this is that I can NOT pull any data off of the phone. I plug it in, Windows recognizes the phone but it takes about 10-15 minutes to load the folder structure. I am then unable to copy any of the data off of the phone. Explorer crashes and I cant get the data off. UPDATE: I was able to get the data of the phone by using a friends Mac. I will post an update with some more info.
-I need to get my data off the phone before I can continue but am unable to. Any help would here would be greatly appreciated.
-Also if any one knows a more stable ROM with a similar feature set to Purity that is fast, has good battery life and isn't packed to the gills with features tht may one day cause more issues that they are worth. Please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys may be able to offer me.
Well I'm not too sure what your issue could be, but purity is one of the most stable roms on here... Have you looked in the purity thread for posts saying the same thing happened? I highly doubt it is the rom.
