After thinking about it for a few days, I would like to create just a plain black background that I can use in S Note. I figured out that you need to modify the apk by replacing to .png images to the template you want. However, I have a problem re-installing the modified apk.
I have extracted the Snote_P4C.apk file from my tab and have modified it using APK-Multi-Tool. After resigning and attempting to install I am getting the following error;
Code:
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE]
I have read online that this has something to do with my packages.xml file which is here: http://pastebin.com/36CLWZxq
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would be willing to make a tutorial after

Can't you open a new note, then change background to your image? Is it what you want?
Sv: Creating your own Template for S Note?
ddavtian: since he's asking I assume he has the previous version of SNote and that doesn't support change background to your own image when you are in the note. Luckily there are a way to get around it and that is to select import image when you are in the app itself, where you can see all your notes and create new ones. This will create a note with the picture as background.
In the new version however, you just have to pick select image where you set the background and it works just like the stock backgrounds.

I am making some custom wallpapers for my Incredible, and am running into a few problems.
I am using photoshop and saving my pictures as JPEGs. They are 960x800 px.
They pretty big files, usually 1.5meg.
When I put the pictures on my sdcard, and I go to change the wallpaper, I go to gallery, then find the picture I have put on, and when I select the picture, it acts like it goes to the resize portion of the process, but then it just goes back to the gallery.
I have also tried loading the wallpaper straight through ASTRO file manager, with no luck either.
I'm sure I am missing something terribly simple, but I can't find it online.
Any help would be great. Thanks
There is an attachment of one of the images.
The problem is that we are 480x800

i dont think thats the problem. i cant even view the photo in gallery right. is there a limit to the size of the jpg?
The image that uploaded to the website is only 92.3kb. Just downloaded it and set it as a wallpaper no problem
1.5mb for a 960x800 image is HUGE.
I just played around with it for a bit and I think I figured out what your doing. Is your image properties set to cmyk (32bit)? That would explain why your file size is so big. Change it to rgb (24 bit). I'm thinking the android platform doesn't play to nicely with cmyk files.
I'm going to upload my cmyk file and see if this website automatically converted it to rgb on upload, which is what im thinking happened to your upload here.
Edit: yep that's exactly it. The website converted it, the attachment that was uploaded was 1.2mb and I just downloaded it; 94.3kb.
Awesome thanks for your help. I will switch it to rgb when I get home and try it out and report back

i highly recommend using wallpaper set & save instead of the stock wallpaper chooser.
I am currently using Better Cut on my home screen to change the shortcuts to some custom icons I made. I want to replace the icons in the app drawer (or perhaps in general) as well (I am using Launcher Pro but I might not be opposed to ADW), however I can't figure out how to do that. I sorta figure the icons would be in the APK files, however when an application gets updated, I would have to replace the icon would I not?
If that's the case, I don't think it would be worth it, but if there's an easier or more doable way I'd love to hear it.
Thanks!
It's my understanding that you'll have to change the app's actual icon.
Find the apk you want to change.Convert the apk file into a zip file.
Replace the icon's png, in res folder, with your icon. Convert back into an apk. Sign apk. Reinstall.
Its not as simple as it should be, or maybe I haven't found an easier method. I'm having trouble signing the apk.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks, I thought it'd be about like that. When an app is updated, I will have to re-do the whole procedure won't I?
Yes because it replaces everything. Let me know how it goes.

If you install eclipse and download the adw theme template you can put all your icons In there and it will change them. Or you can download an adw theme and pull it from the phone and change all the icons In there. I think the theme apk is in data/app. And then resign the apk.

Hi guys,
It could seem a strange answer but I have deleted all the pre-imposted sketches on s-memo and I remember they were all drawn on different backgrounds (White stripes, blank white, yellow notepad, etc.). Now when I open a new file I can only draw on yellow squared background. Does any of you know how to choose a different background? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Open settings with the memo open.
Change background.
Profit.
Swyped from the white galaxy, 2 stars to the left.
There is no such option as change background!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Except there is! Sorry and thanks for your help!
Found the Cause... Changing the dpi makes it like that... so If you have changed the dpi..Make sure u download the modded s -memo app from xda and push it. No more lines then!
create a new memo go into the options and it has change background, you get a choice of 8
Anyone know where the memo background image files are stored? Or how to import your own files?

seems to be inside smemo.apk, in one of res/drawable-* folders
better info to could be probably found in modded smemo thread (for DPI's 200, 220 etc.)
how can i add backgrounds to the s note? when i go to idea note i can see there are backgrounds but i want to add a background of my own.
In the notebook overview, select menu and import (next to add new note). Import a image file or a PDF with your background and select what type of note you want it to be. At least if you select a image file, the image is background for every page you add in that note.

going to test this, thank you
thank you, worked great
Note however, that if you manually change the background in the app for the given note you will lose the background image and I'm not quite sure how to insert it again in a existing note.
Edit: I found that in the new SNote version you can add your own image as a background where you change background by just clicking on the symbol in the upper right corner. The previous way was the only way to do it in the previous version as far as I know though, and since you're asking I assume you still have that on your tablet.

Then you have the precious version, and in that one I don't think there's any way to add a background without adding it as a picture.
You can't update it manually as far as I know, it's just a part of the JellyBean update that you probably soon will get. You can of course search for those kind of updates manually in settings.

A black rectangle with what I suppose should look like a mountain inside. But it's strange if you have another version since this is a UK 8010 as well.

The only icon that looks like that on my snote is the "insert object" one, but that doesnt change the background like you described above... unless I misunderstood what you wrote
*edit
Just looked at your post history and it appears our snote build number is different, even though we are both on JB. Mine is running the official ota from the other week, I guess yours is not?
Cheers

The button doesn't set the background, it's letting you select an image to have as background and of course whether it should be for every page or just the one page you have selected. Mine is opening the gallery or the Dropbox folder, if your doesn't I don't think it's working.
I have the official UK ota from a couple of weeks ago, however I don't think it's necessary the same between regions and especially not if your is 4.1.2 instead of the 4.1.1 I'm running. Other than that, I have no idea why your version aren't the same as mine. But considering how badly mine is working as you might have seen in my previous posts, you have nothing to be envious about

Haha, I'm not sure where else to look for such a setting but It's a good thing you found it anyway!
Speaking of which, what is this small SNote file anyway? If that's the actual update that is causing so much troubles and removing it would be a solution, that can't be to hard even if it's requiring rooting the device?
I agree, that's really annoying and basically enough to make it useless for note taking in class where the tempo is fast. But other than that, the problems with the functions for recognizing different things you draw makes it not as out standing as it once were. It's a good thing there's LectureNotes and that the developer is so active to get things working a 100% and improving the application constantly. I can't wait to get the customizable drawing tools!
By the way, I called the samsung support in Sweden once again and the guy I speaked to today was sure that the only way to get the old SNote back was to do a factory reset after which he was very clear that doing any of the things I mentioned like rooting the device etc will destroy any warranty what so ever. But naah, I'll try again tomorrow, maybe even to the service center.
Anyone that has been more successful in their contact with Samsung? (sorry if this is considered OT)

The goal is to be able to change small things in some apps.
For example, there is an app called SnapChat which allows you to send a picture for 3 seconds and then closes the picture. In this scenario, I would like to be able to edit the .apk file to allow to stay for 4 seconds. Would this kind of this be possible?
How so?
Um....you can do this within the app.....stock....

most apps are customizable. there are threads over in android general/hacking specifically about this topic.

You can change alot of things in apps just by playing around with them. Using Apktool or another decompiling tool, you can change alot in the res/values folders Theres alot of stuff you can play around with in the various xml files

You're gonna have to adb push/pull unless you build your own ROM.

use 7zip on your computer to swap out png's. change app's name from whatever.apk to whatever.zip then move it to your computer using 7zip open the archive. don't extract or unzip. navigate to res folder and open it. find the png files you want to change and insert your png files you want. make sure they are the correct size, in the correct format (png) and are named correctly. exactly as they are in the zip file. then close the zip transfer it back to your phone and rename back to whatever.apk i do suggest doing some more research before doing this. there are a lot of threads dedicated just for this. use the search engine at the top of the page. XDA provides it for this exact reason.
