hi
I have a bricked i9003 (recovery and download mode working) and i am attempting to swap internal mem with external card. I am trying this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832084.
i was not able to get the make_ext4 file work for me in ADB so i used minitool partition wiz in win7 and created a FAT32 and EXT4 partition 4gb and 3 gb respectively.
here is the next step
Write a script, say 00remnt similar to the attached sample file which currently I am using (If you do not follow the script, better don't proceed. Else check if things are fine for your current base ROM settings)

I have no idea what to do, i mean how am i suppose to write a script? its my 4th day fighting with this phone.
Will really appreciate any help.
Thanks

I have a sd card. i partitioned it using paragon partition manager mounting sd card thru phone. THen moved apps2sd and then decide to delete partition. So i being unable to delete the partition used windows own partition management to delete all the partitions. Then i decided to again partitions the card. Now i can't. Paragon partition manager can't do it. Used the sd split(ques- do we need an empty card for that). My phone storage went to 0 mb. Can anybody help me to again partition it. I really need it with haykuro's 5.02 H as it has only 43 mb free space. Please!!! Help.
Thanks for reading and now please do something

I haven't used paragon before but I would suggest using gparted through an ubuntu(or some other linux distro) live cd. Basically you download the cd image, burn it onto a cd, restart your computer with the cd in and it'll bring up a little menu that gives you the option to start up in ubuntu off the cd. Then go to System->(can't remember, but it's the second option)->Partition Editor. It has a nice gui and you just choose the last device listed which should be your sd card(check the size to make sure!) and you can create new partitions. Making an ext2 partition correctly in windows is a tad... difficult.
EDIT: actually, you can just use this:http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
Help
Can u please help me use it. I have portable ubuntu and now this. Can u provide step by step instructions or atleast give a hint to use it
Hey guys,
Im not sure if this has been asked as I've looked as many places as I can. This is the first android phone that i had that uses only internal memory so im not sure how to check the partitions i have made using CWM recovery.
usually i would use adb shell and check my mmcblk0 but that obviously doesnt work.
When i used the partition SD option in CWM i did:
advanced -> partition SD card -> 1024 for the ext -> 32 for the swap
my question is, is the internal memory now partitioned to ext4? as i now have an internal storage or 0.92gb
also if i wanted to increase the partition can i just simply go back and do the process over again? except chose 2048 and etc?
you cant repartition it. this isnt the G1 where you need a
ext2/3/4 partition
swap
hd space
the NS is:
0.98 GB Internal App Space
13.31 GB of USB Storage
1.71 GB reserved for Android OS
other phones have:
internal + sd card space. If this is the case, it follows the same format as the NS BUT the sd card is expanded space for USB storage.
thanks for the reply zephik, so CWM's partition tool shouldnt be used? or it just doesnt do anything for us.
because i now have:
total storage:13.31 GB
internal storage:0.93 GB <-- instead of 0.98
im currently downloading gparted to see if i can check what CWM has done. and perhaps getting rid of the 32mb swap if its not needed

I would just straight up stay away from it. I remember on the Vibrant, "partition sd card" would semi-brick your phone because it would attempt to repartition the internal sdcard (which is what we have) and to fix it would require using Odin.
You also probably have 9020A, I have 9020T so it could be partially different. Swap is not needed.. at least not on 2nd-gen Android phones and above.

OK cool, its good that i didnt get a semi brick from this then. From what i can tell CWM didnt do anything if the total storage is still 13.31 and didnt modify anything on the internal storage as it is still 0.98 ( used up 57mb of it thats why it shows 0.93) still a bit interested as to if the swap got created or not
hi, i wanna set up swap but i cant find any real tutorial. can someone please give me some steps to get swap running on my phone? thanks!
alright, maybe this is more of a "how should i set up my sd" post cos i also havent used apps2ext. (have been using the internal memory, very noob i know)
So what ROM are you running? Its pretty easy if you have one of the custom ROM's from this forum installed. They all have swap support, all you have to do is fastboot into the fjfalcon kernel and swap will be active. Theres a video by reverend you can search he shows how you can parition your SD card and how to get swap running step by step. Look for that...or wait lemme find you the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034763
Check these videos out. This is assuming you know how to use adb shell etc...
thanks, doing the linux part now. i wanted to do it on my windows emulator (im on a mac) but its stored on my external hard drive and the hard drive just crashed so i went to find other ways. found virtualbox for mac.
btw, can you recommend me a setup for my sd? as in the size for each partition. thanks!
I partitioned my SD card exactly like how reverend does in the video.
6.8 GB FAT32
900 MB EXT3
92 MB LINUX SWAP
Works great
i read somewhere in a malaysian forum where khal recommended someone 513mb for swap... is it too much?
ext3 is for dexter's rom to move apps installed to it so its stored on the card instead of the phone right?
Correct, the EXT3 partition is for moving your apps to the SD card.
I can't say about the swap, you'll have to ask khal or fjfalcon who made the kernel as to what the optimum settings are. I use 91 MB, and according to set CPU even after heavy usage half of my swap remains unused. I cant see how someone can have around half a GB of idle apps open for them to be on swap.

Khal recommended 500 for ext3, 513 for swap and the rest fat32
crap i dont have a card reader, my phone shows up on the emulator but its kinda "grey-ed" like its not supposed to be able to mount on the virtual machine. any ideas?

oO
The phone use 30MB of swap mostly. 513 is a waste of memory for sure.
Also - Yes! ext3 partition is for apps.

Thats nice to know if true! But I have seen mixed opinions while searching for a straight answer on it lol. I have seen some say 30 and others besides Khal also say 513. I might have to repartition again and see how it does with only 30 as I've been 513 for quite a while now see if there's a difference.
I also read that swap should be bigger than the amount of ram. But I don't know can't get a positive answer. If that's the case then that's why 513 makes sense then. Double the ram plus 1. Anybody else know?
Just found this tutorial it says...
Step 5: Create your new partitions. You can make these any size, but the most common setup is 32 MB linux-swap partition, 512 MB ext2 partition, and remaining free space as a fat32 partition. In order to work properly, the partitions must be created in this order: fat32, ext2, linux-swap.

So I understand you are using puppy linux in a virtual box? And you're trying to partion with gparted? I think you have to umount the drive before you can partion it. See the unmount button, and then try. If you are having trouble I can send you a screen shot.

Hi guys , I have been using this handset since october, i have tried all roms till date and other tweaks , one thing i still couldnt get it is how to increase the internal memory.. the whole things is still a zig zag puzzle for me. if sumone can help me with step by step tutorial , will be gr8. i have tried creating partition in my sd card via cwm , bt in vain. infact ended up corrupting my card and got it replaced.

Create partitions using Minitools partition wizard. Create ext4(256-512) and linux swap(0-128) partitions. Switch off your phone. Put the SD card in, trboot into recovery and wipe data. And then reboot.

Coul you just elaborate about the Linux swap file? Is it just like the virtual memory on the SD Card? Suppose if we have 16GB card and create larger EXT4 partitions, would we have to still create Linux swap partition of just 128MB?
For those who facing problem of low internel memory(ROOT REQUIRED)
No need to partition SD card
1) install the app
2) backup with titanium backup
2)uninstall the app
4) go to titaninium backup->Preferences->Restore Backup to->externel media
5) Restore the app with Titanium backup,,
by app2sd u can verify location where the app installed.
And your memory will never go low.. u can manage easily..

Through this way without partition, i guess the apps would be installed in FAT32 partition of the SD Card which is comparatively much slower to EXT4.

Recommended is 128 MB. 128 MB is more than enough. Swap basically is storage place which can be used as memory by the operating system when system RAM is low.
logi or prima

linux swap logical or primary?
Hello, i have a problem with my Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 (GT-P3110) with omni-4.4.4-20140820-p3110-NIGHTLY rom installed.
I have bought a SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS IT - MB-MPCGC EU (Samsung microSDXC 64GB Class 10 ) micro sd card and I used it out of the box in my PAD without need to format it.
(in Storage i have found it under SD CARD tab (Total Space 58.45 GB not sure if this is ok) but i don't have the option for Formatting it (only Unmount and after it Erase or Mount)
I can see it with Windows 7 via USB MTP mode and copy files on it but not formatting it
I have tested this card with Sdtools and Sdcardtester on the tab without any problem
Now my problem is that i want to use Link2sd to move my apps on the Sd card but i have no way to make the 2 needed partitions on the it
I have tried to see if Mini Tool Partition would able to see the card from the tab's USB in MTP mode without success, i have tried to use a Sd card reader directly on my Pc with the same result (with another microd sd i was able to have it connected in Windows but this card is only 4 gb)
I have tried this also on a different PC without any luck
I tried to make partition on the card in recovery mode (tried with TWRP_2.7.1.2 and PhilZ-Touch-Recovery_6.57.5 and CWM_6.0.5.0) but in none of the 3 i have found the Partition SD card option inside the Advanced menu...
So after trying everything i'm lost
If anyone have any advice or can give me any help on this i will appreciate it
@lucas1965
See the before site for a tool for partitioning sdcards. Partitioning sdcards will erase all data on the card.

With Aparted (found in the Google Play store) i was able to check the card file system (the app told me that was FAT32 ) and to make 2 partitions
1 Fat32 and 1 ext4 but i still have all the same problems as before also with Link2sd not letting me move apps from the internal memory to the sd but only link them

I was thinking that my english was so bad that i was misunderstanding your first post
I tried that program before but it is not working for me cause i can't get the sd card working in Windows so i can't format it there
Still i was able to solve the big part of my problem because with Aparted launched on the tablet i made the 2 partitions requested from Link2sd to use the function Create Link that will help me a lot
Now i just need to know the best size to have in the 2 partitions. I'm still unable to move all the app but maybe sooner or later someone will find a solution to this .

Your English is just fine
The dying honestly depends on what files you need on your sdcard compared to the source the apps you plan to move to your sdcard will take up. I'd either make them both 32GB or one 16 gb and one 48 gb, the larger one obviously for whichever partition needs to be bigger.
