Question about Fastbooting - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Question: if i fastboot my motorola xoom would it erase my internal memory?

You don't "fastboot" your Xoom. You boot into fastboot and then do what you need to. If you unlock your bootloader, it wipes all of your storage. If you do "fastboot -w" it will wipe all of your storage.

Help with Fastboot

Basically, my xoom has been rooted and currently I have CynogenMod9 RC0 Wingray currently installed.
I wanted to install a new rom but I couldn't do this using CWM Recovery as the SD Card doesn't Mount. Upon doing some reading I found I need to install the Rogue (or EOS) Recovery image. This is where my problems begin as I can connect to the device when the xoom is fully booted in the CM9 and connected via debugging mode(running adb devices returns a sequence of numbers ).
But then when I reboot into the bootloader it gets stuck on "Starting Fastboot protocol support." and i can't connect via adb!!!
I believe this started happening after I unlocked the bootloader but i can't be 100% sure (fastboot oemunlock)
Please help!!!
When it is on fastboot mode you can only use fastboot commands (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) that is how you would install the recovery image from rogue or EOS or TWRP, whichever you choose.
Or to make it easier, you can boot your tablet, install GOO Manager. When you open the GOO manager, tap the setting in the top right corner and choose Install Open Recovery script and let it install TWRP. Then boot to recovery.

You specifically said it says starting fastboot protocol. That's as far as it goes. You then issue fastboot commands, not adb commands

[Q] Rooted Xoom Stuck on Bootloader

Hey everyone, I rooted my Xoom MZ601 a while back using this method. I installed the Team EOS XOOM ROM and is updated to the latest nightly build. I want to return to stock following these instructions from thr MOTO Dev Site. The only thing is I can't even get into the Bootloader. I've tried doing it manually on the Xoom itself and also through ADB. It restarts and shows the "Dual Core" screen, then I get the "Starting Fastboot protocol support." message and that's as far as it goes. I have to do a hard-restart to get it back operational. Any ideas how I can fix this please?
Thanks
ADB is the wrong method for flashing back your image files.
You have to use fastboot. LOL it even says on it the website http://developer.motorola.com/products/software/
Instructions to Flash & Re-Lock Your Motorola XOOM:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

Ok thanks, I issued the commands within the folder that I extracted the files into, now it just says <waiting for device >. The Xoom isn't doing anything. It is set to USB Debugging mode and is connected directly to the motherboard USB's. Any ideas? Thanks

Sorry and thanks
No worries, I've done it thanks
You have to be in the bootloader. Since you're using TeamEOS rom hold down the power button, click on restart and goto bootloader. Then try them again.

Torn Touch Screen Digitizer Flex

Ok so I tore my touch screen digitizer and just decided to sell the motherboard and working parts because this is my 3rd time breaking the phone and I'm ready for a new one. The screen turns on but the touch doesn't work and the problem is that I have a pattern lock on my phone that prevents me from being able to access and delete my data from the internal SD card. (Unlock phone to access data). Also, I just flashed the new Sense 5 rom but didn't enable Developer Options so I can't use ADB. Help?

If your phone is S-off or you didn't supercid you could RUU.
Alernatively, you could boot to fastboot and do
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase preinstall
Ofcourse this will wipe EVERYTHING. So the person to buy it will have to be smart enough to get stuff on it again.

What if I just wanted to erase my data and apps? Should I just do "Fastboot erase Userdata" and "fastboot erase cache"?

userdata wipes the entire sdcard

How to perform a complete wipe without leaving any files on the phone?

I''d like to completely erase the internal memory of the phone. Akin to formatting a HD. It seems when I format all of the available options in recovery it still does not do this (ie full wipe, SD card, cache, system, etc).
How can this be done?
I'm assuming I can do this over adb commands from the PC and then load in a new zip to flash. The reason I'm doing this is that something is corrupt on the phone causing me to have dialer crashes as soon as dialer opens. I've wiped, I've switched ROMS, and nothing has prevented it. Read the stickies then flash the factory image
Fastboot erase userdata
Fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
Locking then unlocking the bootloader again would wipe it clean...no?
Never relocked....so guessing.

OP wants to wipe everything I think, boot loader unlock only wipes user data
Fastboot erase boot
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot erase recovery
Fastboot erase system
Fastboot erase userdata
Then flash the factory .IMG files right after
Or just use the flash-all script that's included in the factory images as it uses -w to wipe everything.

Will this only delete user data or every bit and byte on the flash memory?

no, there's 20 or more different partitions on the whole flash memory. This is the only on though that has anything to do with your dialer issue.

userdata.

fastboot erase command

Will "fastboot erase cache" or "fastboot erase data" delete photos from the camera? My phone is not booting up and I have a suspicion it is because it ran out of hard drive space, so I'd like to clear the app cache or delete some apps. Will the fastboot erase commands do that? I did google it but I still didn't get it and don't want to make a mistake.

If you can't get to recovery to factory reset, yes, fastboot erase should work.
