Plain and simple you can't. The internal storage is not like a galaxy device or other phones with internal sdcard storage. The internal 4GB is ONLY for the /data/ partition where apps are stored.
P.S. this has been covered many, many times, as always answered this same way.
P.S. I just did a search for internal storage and found the following threads that also give this same info.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943177
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920623
so on and so forth....

hey guys,
i have not found anything about my problem here or on google, so im asking and hope its not coverd anywhere else.
i read about changing the default location for camera/fotos and how to get apps to sd. but i want to set the sd card to default for anything. for downloads/music/pics/app related files.
i have 16 gb of internal storage and it fills up with all my music from doubletwist that i sync over airsync. maybe there is a way to get that done for the music alone. that would already help me. but a better solution was to get sd as default for anything.
when i think about my htc, i have all apps on the internal, thats ok. and all other files are atomatically saved to de sd card. i want it like that on my note 10.1
is there any possibility to get that done?
thx in advance guys
go to android development section find 64gb internal storage by zedomax hope this helps i followed this method and now i have 64gb iternal memory

hey thx so much. i will give it a try in the next days.
but i noticed something else. when i look at my files from es file explorer, they all seem to be on my sd, but my settings app says they are on the internal storage, but maybe the script will fix that.
Your internal card is the sd as far as es is concerned. Youneed to either hit the star icon in the left corner to go to extsdcard or go to mnt>extsdcard to get to your external sd card...
Ah now I get it... Thing is: it was different on all my other devices... Thx again guys. It was a huge help

Ok, so i remember there being a thread about cleaning up the junk files on the internal storage of the G900P, but i couldnt find it in the 12 pages of threads i combed thru and searching for it didnt help either as it just returns results for ROM installation instructions. What im looking for is the place where the play store downloads its files to before installing the apks so i can clear that out and reclaim my internal storage again. I have a 128 gb microsd card, but its just an ocd thing to not have my internal storage pegged out
bump?
I have a Moto G4 Plus running 7.0 with 64 GB internal and 128 GB SD. The phone is encrypted.
I originally formatted the SD as Internal Storage and now want to remove it.
I am trying to use the built-in Migrate data function to move all my data from SD to internal but it tells me Not Enough Storage Space
I removed all my photos and music to bring the amount of migration data to a minimum.
Same error.
I went through all the apps on the SD card and individually moved to internal.
3 of them also gave the Not Enough Storage Space error - I uninstalled them and rebooted.
Still the same error.
The overview in Storage settings is as follows:
29.14 GB
Total used of 181 GB
Android OS 9.49 GB
Internal shared storage
14.93 GB used of 54.51 GB
SanDisk SD card
4.72 GB used of 117 GB

So there should be plenty of space for the 4.72 GB to migrate - 39.58 GB.
What is stopping it from migrating?

Un-encrypt your device and undo the sd as internal, then make your changes.

I thought the only way to un-encrypt was a factory reset?

OK then, undo SD as internal, then backup the apps and data you want to keep, then factory reset to remove encryption.
Can't remove the card as long as it is setup as internal or enrypted, the device and the card are tied to each other, neither will work without the other.

Did you use the built in Adoptable Storage option to format SD as internal?

Sorry Droidriven, maybe my OP wasn't clear enough - that is exactly what I am trying to do.
I originally formatted as Internal Storage when prompted when I first put the SD card in.
I am going to Settings -> Storage -> Internal Storage -> Migrate Data
That is when I get the error message
That is what I am asking for help with

What about the setting to return the SD card to "portable" as described in what I posted?

Will that not lose the data on the SD?
That is what I eventually want to do - I am trying to migrate the data off of it before doing so.

yes - the only option I have is to "Format as portable" so I will lose the data.
This is what I eventually want to do - I am currently trying to migrate the data off of the SD to internal before doing so, and getting the error.

You probably have too many apps to move everything to internal, you have plenty of storage but your /data partition probably isn't big enough.
You'll have to backup the apps and data, and store it on PC, then uninstall the apps. Then migrate what is left. Then go from there. You can put the apps and data back after you get done if you have enough space or another sdcard.

Hi, I am a very accomplished PC super-geek user who can troubleshoot/fix just about any computer problem, and I'm looking for the equivalent person in regards to the Android phone.
I just bought a (brand new) DuraForce E6810 and put a new 32GB SD card in. When I put the card in, I elected for it to be used as internal memory in order to install/run apps from it. The SD card shows up in Settings > Storage, but it does not show up in ANY of the file manager apps I'm trying to use to manipulate/move files. I figured the "internal" storage might show up as 64GB in the file manager apps (32 internal + 32 SD configured as internal), but that is not the case. The file manager apps only show the 32GB internal memory that came with the phone. Anyone have any advice? I am planning to root the phone in order to (hopefully) take advantage of the HotSpot feature as well as the FM radio chip. Any advice on these topics would be greatly appreciated, also.
Thanks!

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following thread that's specific to your device.

I can't post to the thread you suggested.
Apparently due to spamming issues that have occured on this forum, members like myself who don't have enough "useful" posts are unable to start a new thread in a forum that is actually relevant to the problem that I am asking advice about.
I do thank you for trying, though. Does anyone else know how I can get the help I need?
Thanks in advance.

You don't have to post another thread...
You can ask a Moderator, like @SacredDeviL666, to move this thread to another area. Just state which specific area you would like this thread to be moved to.
Good Luck!

Hi,
There is a tagged device thread/forum for your device which is why you are unable to post there directly.
I will get an admin to look and include your thread in that Tagged Forum :- https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/kyocera-duraforce

Thanks for moving this to the Kyocera DuraForce superthread. My device is Kyocera DuraForce Pro E6810 (Verizon). I have a 32GB MicroSD card, to go along with the phone's 32GB Internal memory.
After formatting the SD card as INTERNAL memory, I connected the phone to my computer via USB and selected USB File Transfer (MTP). On my computer, it ONLY shows the SD card with 28.6GB free out of 29.2GB Total memory, and the phone's ACTUAL internal memory is not listed at all.
After reformatting the SD card as PORTABLE storage and connecting the phone to my computer, it lists the SD card with 29.7GB free of 29.7GB Total, and the Internal memory with 15.0GB free of 21.0GB.
Both the SD card and the Internal memory of the phone are 32GB total space, which should be 64GB combined. Can someone please tell me why after formatting the SD card as INTERNAL storage, I only see 29.2GB TOTAL memory on the phone, and there is NO Internal memory listed at all when connected to my computer?
So I think I have this figured out, someone please verify this for me:
Formatting the SD card as INTERNAL storage REPLACES the phone's original internal storage and DOES NOT ADD TO IT! Is this essentially correct?
im a bit late on the response sorry
but respectively, yes you are pretty much correct. although it doesnt run off of the internal FS via the sd card, that would be silly, i believe it creates a duplicate partition of the part of the internal FS that allows a specific type of apps data to be run the can normally not run externally. such as meta data and binary files which contain the "actual" code for the app and not just a users cached data. To be honest i could be wrong idk, but that is my idea of what happens in your case. ita definitely happened to ne before.
Hello everyone,
I have a very strange problem that I got yesterday evening. Usually, I can find myself the solution or with the help of search forms or google but this is very strange and I need expert of Android. That's why I am asking it here.
I have a Vernee Thor E (the model of the phone is not needed I think) and I have a shared memory between my internal memory of 16 GB and a micro sd card of 16 GB. Yesterday, some apps didn't launch and I first thought I had to reboot my phone. But when I did that, some appls disppeared from my phone and all photos and videos. So it was like my SD card was not detected anymore.
Now, the SD card is detected again (and also as a shared memory) but I cannot access anymore the old data (about 8 GB). So the sd card is half used and I see that 8GB is used but I cannot access the data. Files are hidden. And as it is a shared memory, a computer cannot read these data.
Is there a way to have access to these files or restore the old link ? With some adb commands or something else ?
Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you very much. So, now I hope that the system didn't delete the key. I will try this this week and of course, I will come back here to explain what I did if it can help other people.

There are other methods here for various states of sdcard/adoptable storage corruption. Try finding one that specifically suits your scenario based on what is or isn't accessible and how the card is or isn't being detected.
The solution might be different or even easier depending on the specific conditions involved.
