Hi Folks!
I've just installed this ROM (first time I do stuff like this...I may be an IT guy but I am an absolute NOOB on android ROMs world)
Reaper V4.0 ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433816
I wanted to post my question on that thread but I could not because this is my first post so I hope you can help me here
So I´ve installed that ROM, I am not sure if I like it yet but there is something absolutely important not working and if I cannot fix it I doubt I will ever find out if I like it.....I just cannot connect to my home wireless network!
Basically when I see the list of networks available I see all my neighbours networks but not mine! And I've been connecting to it normally until 1 hour ago when I had my htc Desire S with its original OS.
Do you guys have any idea why I could possibly see other networks but not mine?
Thank you all in advance for reading!
Cheers
U could try a few things, clearing the phone's cache and dalvik in recovery.
Or you could try fiddling with your router, a reset might do the trick.

I reset the router but did not help. It should not be related to the router anyway...
I wiped cache and dalvik cache also but did not help
I am seriously considering replacing this ROM immediately with another one...It's useless like this (I've also googled and found no relevant content that could help).
My htc Desire S is still S-ON but unlocked with the official htcdev unlocking.
Any suggestion for some stable (and possibly more modern...this one is gingerbread) ROM that I could get?
Cheers and thank you rain for your help

If you like Sense ROMs, I suggest Desire XS, pretty stable and VERY fast.
I am using Andromadus CM10.1 latest build and I haven't had issues yet.
Else you can consider flashing MIUI ROMs, that have very pretty UI and provide a good user experience. Try for yourself and see which ROM suits for you.

Right now I am installing (I actually did) this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679125
It's supposed to be for desire one but modified to work on desire s.
Installation was fine but it's now stuck on a white screen with htc one logo (and a logo in the bottom saying "beatsaudio"
Crossing my fingers to see if it moves from there!
If not I will definitely try one of the ROMs you suggested....if I did not brick the phone of course!
EDIT: It moved from the white sceen and seems to be working....Will be giving this ROM an opportunity....if not will try one of the ones you mentioned...
Good thing the wifi works on this one at least

Fallout is also a very good ROM (all lowveld's ROMs are). I did have tried that ROM before, very stable and with good performance, but sense is too "funeral" for my taste.
If I was helpful please hit the "thanks" button near the end of the thread.

I hope the issue you got isn't a hardware related problem.
Anyway, why not try a different rom ? There's quite a several nice roms that you can download here, including the stock + root rom if you like.
Test and see.
try to wipe dalvik cache via recovery then reboot..i have same temperature but no reboots...

Where did you get this ROM from? As I've not seen it in the Development section of this forum, are you sure that its meant for this device?
Its not listed in the ROMS section within the index thread

Ok, are you saying that you are rooted and need a nice unbloated rom, or are you saying you failed to root using the AHK and need help with that?
If you are looking for a new rom that isnt bloated, my favorite for that is Virtuous Unity (sense 3.0)

If you are saying that you failed to root and need another method, then

Yes indeed successful root I am guessing because everything is availible, no longer get the default att wifi hotspot message I received with stock os when you don't have the appropriate data plan. I do appreciate the help can't waitto check those out! I just need to learn why I chose this phone vs my bbbold9700.
-with the currently installed ROM I get tons of force close message for rommanager
-intermittent signal loss of all data sources(wifi and data network) almost always failing to load internet pages. No Facebook or other APp notifications weather clock doesn't update.
I need some newbie guides, understanding my phone and what it can do will really help me.
Also if I can get a point in the right direction to reloading a new ROM with the AHK recovery, for I have a uncommonly tiring work week and a newborn son, I have no time to search on my home PC, so thank you in advance.
I know this phone is better than that bb9700 I just need help uncovering why. Thx

I would suggest that you try some roms to see what you like. Try a Sense 2.1 like ClearDroid or Rum Runner, a Sense 3.0 Rom like Virtuous Unity or RCMix and an AOSP Rom like GingerBeast or Ninja. There are so many good roms but only you can decide what works best for you.

So I like what I have done I got a downgraded version from somewhere lol I am using the ahk to downgrade I'm trying to figure out now how to do full wipes. I want to try the ninja 817 ROM.
Additional thoughts I am worried about bricking my phone messing with the RIL radio stuffs, so I am curious if radio changes are necessary because I won't be doing one if unneeded and I would like to understand the process fully before attempting.
Thanks to all who have had the patience to help me!

radio/ril changes are not necessary.
Easiest way to flash for the first time is through the app Rom Manager.
Reading through this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033353 gives most of what you are gonna need to start out.

I believe that a "full wipe" is factory data reset along with clear cache and wipe Dalvik cache (in recovery). If you want to make sure to get everything, you can go into mounts and storage (in recovery) and format everything other than SD card plus the aforementioned wipe Dalvik cache, which is in recovery under advanced . Hth.

thats the beauty of android. hit the market, and you will find about 1000 replacement keyboards
The default keyboard for ninja is swype, I personally don't like it and stick with the stock gingerbread keyboard(also included in ninja)
no hay de queso no mas de papa
I figured that out just a while ago, glad because swipe may be faster but tapping seems faster for me. Love the stock keyboard layout!

With ninja you can use swype or default its up to you.
I personally tried the other ROMs and they are OK, but ninja is so smooth its my favorite.
They say if your not suffering with dropped signal or issues there is no need to update out change the radios.

Hi all,
I recently got an HTC DESIRE S and installed miui 2.4.20 on it.
I am getting the wifi grip of death problem when I touch the back of the phone.
I tried finding a fix online but I am not sure what would work on my rom...my understanding is that this can be fixed softwarewise.
I would be grateful if someone could link here a fix to flash through CWM or some solution in order to fix this.
Thanks in advance
Grip of Death
You could try this fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051674
Or maybe experiment with some new radios?
Btw, try avoiding landscape mode,
that when your phone is most sensitiv to "the grip"
Thanks...but which of the two files should i.flash on my rom?
When i check about phone i dont see those numbers there

Hi again! - Didn't see your question.
Well, I'm actually on MIUI 2.4.20, UK version right now myself
I don't have any problems with the wifi.
Maybe I'll get a drop if I really try to cover the entire top half of the phone...
btw, what case do you use, if any?
Edit: I take it you did a full wipe etc. before flashing miui? (coming from ...sense?)
Hi..thanks for response. Yeah did full wipe and flashed after....

I bought a rooted Mytouch 4g slide on ebay. I used it for a few days then gave it to my husband and when he tried to set it up things went wrong. It won't receive calls(it goes to voice mail) Google play store won't work (but he can buy and use apps from Amazon), Home button doesn't work, the list goes on and on. The fix from what he's read is to downgrade to gingerbread vs. 3.4 but we can't find directions for how to do this on the 4g slide. I did read directions for downgrading the 4g but someone said in that discussion that the 4g slide was quite different.
thanks
Android version 4.0.4
Kernel version 3.0.36CyanogenMod-gf3b89bf
CyanogenMod version 9.1.0-doubleshot
Tmoble
Should need to downgrade, just wipe and flash ROM to your liking. What I would do:
Pick a ROM I think sounds good (found in developer threads in this forum)
Download it along with anything else needed (some ROMs require gapps to be flashed separate or mods or kernel, just read op of said ROM)
Put ROM and whatever else on SD card
Boot to recovery (either with adb or holding power and choosing recovery or powering on while holding volume down then selecting recovery)
Wipe everything possible here, system, cache, dalvik, data etc (super wipe and fast boot -w even better but whatever)
Then flash ROM and whatever else
Now reboot and your good!
(If you are s-on, check in boot loader mode, then you need to extract kernel from ROM.zip and flash it via fastboot)
If any of the above is confusing feel free to ask but I do suggest reading through these threads a bit as well
Also further I would look into getting radio s-off if you are s-on, can seem difficult but it really isn't and makes life far better. Also look into you're current radio, only two to pick from but I found the latest has the best reception... Differs for everyone though. Also see if you current recovery could be updated, depending on what you have you may want to change, all of this is not needed but good to look into
Good luck!

Thanks, Any recommendations on stable roms? I've found these two that look good but would love input.
MikTouch-0.5

I try not to make in my business recommending ROMs to people as its a very subjective choice, the ones you linked should be fine as are so many others here. I will say if you aren't interested in flashing a lot and trying some out (which I do recommend to do) then pick one close to stock as possible as will have a lesser chance of letting you down

The Miktouch (which the latest version is 0.7) is based on the last release from T-Mobile/HTC, so it is a newer codebase than the Lite ROM. I run Miktouch as my daily as it is very stable and everything works the way it was designed to work. But, many people want newer Android versions, like ICS or JB, so there are many variations of those, some very stable, some not.
Honestly CM10.1 is the best right now. Try that, remember to flash the boot.img in fastboot

Your signature is ridiculously huge.
+1 for MikTouch
Thank you all so much! After spending his days managing computer labs my husband really wanted a phone that "just works like it's suppose to". MikTouch seemed to be just what he needed. His google account synced up perfectly, the phone rings when people call (OK he was fine w/out that one but it drove ME crazy to only text him) and the home button works! Once he gets over his frustration from everything he tried before I wrote in for help, I'll have him look at CM10.1.
Thanks again!
Glad its all working! Just remember to make a nandroid backup if you switch ROMs, and always wipe clean in between flashes
Fave fun!

Greetings guys
I'm running ViperXL 3.2.7 since yesterday and i love it! After browsing the HUB i noticed, that there are several Radio's available for my phone.
Is it worth it to Flash a new Radio, or ist it just an unnecessary risk?
And my two other Questions are:
1.
I also read in ViperXL Topic about WiFi Partition's. Never heard of that before and Google don't want to tell me what it is. Could one of you Guys explain what "JB WiFi Partition Update" will do to my Phone?
2.
When I want to Update on Viper 3.2.8, do i have to clear Cache or Dalvik? Or am I able to load it via "Check for System-Updates" on my phone and just install it.
Im very anxious that my HTC will brick when I do something wrong.
So please, don't be that hard to me. I'm a newbie.
And furthermore my english is also not that great
Thanks for your time, mates!
Regards,
Kureno
The need to flash radios all depends on how your current radio is working. For instance: is your signal strength ok? Is your battery drain acceptable? If your answer to these questions is yes, then you probably don't need to flash a radio. But if you're struggling with signal problems, testing a few different radios is a good idea. Flash one and note the signal strength, flash another and note the signal strength, and so on until you find one that works best in your area.
In regards to your question about the WiFi partition update, if your WiFi is working ok you don't need to do it. If you're getting reboots when using WiFi then you might want to try it.
And, I usually download the OTA update from the thread and flash it manually, basically because I don't trust OTAs. And I always wipe cache and dalvik cache, it can't hurt.

Thank you for your help!
Regarding my Signal-Strength, I think it's okay. But my location and my weather report doesn't update automatically.
HTC Weather is always telling me: "No Data for your location".
But when I click on Update, it updates my location and my weather report.
And when i start my phone, it takes a while until i have a Signal for telephoning or sending sms.
Can those issues be fixed by flashing a new Radio? Or do I just have to live with them?
I had the same problems with weather while using the Viper ROM, but I haven't used it in a while. The length of time it takes to have a usable signal upon boot will not get any faster by changing radios, at least I don't think it will.
