[Q] Is it possible to disable "Cell standby" app on a damaged phone? - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

My i9103 lost its IMEI by itself (100% stock phone). I tried to fix it in some service shops, but they all failed. It's hardware problem, they say. Since I cannot contact samsung to repair my phone, I am using it as a "tablet", and I'm ok with that
However, since the phone is damaged, battery consumption is huge. "Cell standby" and "Dialer" consume most of the battery. For example, after 6 hours "Cell stanby" - 73%, "Dialer" - 7%, "Display" - 5%, "Phone idle" - 2%.
Now the phone is rooted, with stock 2.3.6 rom. Whatever I tried to flash, some stock or custom roms, the problem was the same. The phone is in "airplane" mode, but once activated it cannot be deactivated. Turning off the radio from the config fail.
Is there any possibility to disable (remove) those applications from the Android using terminal emulator on rooted device?
Thanks!

"Cell standby" and "Dialer". They consume too much battery, and I do not use them.

As I already said, I tried to flash all possible roms, wiping cache and everything was the number one in to-do list.
That is the main reason why I posted question here. Maybe somebody know something about system applications, and how to do some hocus-pocus witchcraft on a rooted device If the question was so simple, I would handle it myself, probably

You can use the Titanium Backup to freeze the dialer app.(Phone.apk or Phonesky.apk maybe )

Why dont you try restoring your IMEI by yourself??

There are a lot of threads here that help you in retreiving lost imeis..

Contact user "Odia" via PM & wait patiently for his response (I.e you send a PM & wait for a reply, you don't send any 'reminders') & he may be able to fix it for you for a small 'donation' (Tho I'm not even sure if he still does this kind of thing).
If EFS backup is not there then its not possible to restore IMEI, only way is to go to SSC....

No carrier signal + IMEI problem = take out your battery

I am no dev. nor am I computer or phone expert, but a lot of people have had problems with IMEI number, loss of signal, and SIM card not detected after flashing a ROM. All i did was remove the battery for 5 minutes (maybe 10) or so, not 1 or 2 minutes, and thats it, fixed my problem. So instead of flashing 10 different things and sending phones back i would try the battery first, could save some headaches.
I believe at times it could be related to phone.apk also... I noticed last night when I accidentally left it out of my cwm pkg when I was testing stuff had no base band and my imei disappeared again.... Flashed just phone.apk and it was back to normal repeated it a few times because it was weird lol

Pull the battery !?!?!
This is VERY common! Is there a more permanent fix besides pulling the battery for 10-15 min?

Yes. Make a copy of your efs folder. I keep a copy on my external sdcard and PC...doing that saved me two weeks ago.
If your IMEI gets messed up then you can just replace your "bad" efs folder with your backup. What I did after replacing mine was power the phone off then power it back on. I didn't reboot using the power menu mod.
Hey Jerry D, how'd you restore your efs folder? I can't even find the folder on my Gnexus?

don't know if Gnex is the same as glx4g (as you're in wrong forum for Gnex, too) but on glx4g, you have to use some explorer with root permission (like Root Explorer for e.g) to view root folders and you can see efs folder there ^^ and to restore, just copy & paste I think (or am I missing anything?)

[mod] [x-post] Hide / Rebind Option Menu

Mod is listed under the international version of the one x, but i wanted to repost it over here so the rest of us aware of this awesome mod.
Original Thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582506\
Basically it gets rid of the option bar at the bottom of the screen on non-ICS apps/games and makes the multitask/tast switch button, the new options menu.
Long pressing the home button becomes the new switcher.

That's what Zonk7 meant. Of course it wiped your apps. In order to be able to use most apps while SD card is mounted as USB drive, the apps are not stored in the SD card.
Hence the comment about Titanium backup.
Simply restore your apps after you RUU from the titanium backup you have in your SD card.
the mod should work for us Rogers users though, shouldn't it?

[UNSOLVED] Unknown IMEI/Baseband

LESSON LEARNT (for everyone): Please make sure to do a complete EFS backup before you do anything or you will end up like me!!!
So yeah I flashed Deodex_LF2_Cwm.zip yesterday, trying to deodex my DDFL2.
And following that I experienced total loss of mobile signal, baseband, IMEI, IMEI SV, and phone (*#1234#).
And I haven't been seeing this kinda thing to come, I did not back up EFS. (Yeah brilliant me)
So I tried a few of these:
[GUIDE] Recover your IMEI in 9 steps
Repair IMEI using EFS Pro
Reflashing from latona.pit then XXKPE; for a few times
Flashing stock ROM for Malaysia region (Froyo and GB)
Flashing various Modem.tar (DDLE1, DXKP7, etc) via Odin3 at different ROM levels (XXKPE, DDLF2, even CM10A4)
Restoring Nandroid backup from other SL user (Thanks Rich'Dawg')
But nothing worked so far yet.
Now that I checked the /efs folder is empty and there is only a folder named lost+found.
Some websites said about fixing IMEI for small fees but in cases of blank IMEI (*#06#), chances are only 30%.
And my last resort would be getting it replaced in Samsung service centre or any repair shop, which I suspect that the motherboard would be more expensive than some simple new Android phones.
Leaving this forum for the moment as to collect more money to get a new phone . . . :crying:
Lastly, thanks for all the input. Greatly appreciated.
Do you able to call anyone. ? if yes then no need to change anything. if no then you should search for imei solution on xda. there is some tutorial for fake imei.

no idea of how much it should be.
but a idea to help you,
1st idea:
go in recovery and fix permission.
2nd idea:
you said you flash Deodex LF2 in CWM, it should not touch efs folder. so, very high change of your nv_data.bin file backup still good.
OK. use any file browser look in the efs folder, see if the below file still exiting, (they are hidden file)
check on the file date. is the date older than the date you flash the zip, if yes, this is the one original from your phone.
the file name start with a dot
.nv_data.bak - ( this is your imei backup file) copy and rename the .nv_data.bak to nv_data.bin and set permission and change owner.
.nv_data.bak.md5 - (delete this file first)

I found one .nv_data.bak dated year 1994 , which I think came in when I was trying to flash some efs fixes i found in XDA.
Without much hope I tried what you said, but still nothing happened. IMEI blank, baseband unknown.
Is it possible to have the mobile phone repair shop with RIFF or Jtag or some box thingy to have this done?
i think you must change the motherboard

a friend of mine ran through the same same problem and i think he did some sort of repair from a shop but later we came to know that the backup can do the task not sure whether that work or not but u can give it a try,, BEST of Luck with that..... Hopit Fix the Issue
Good luck sir! As far as I know, if you would choose to replace the motherboard from repair center, it would cost you more or less 80% of the original price of the phone. So it would seem that you have to buy a new one. I hope that a nandroid backup (as stated above) would solve the problem. God bless you! Think positive

Well, here is the story. All of the 'Galaxy S' (aka, Galaxy S 1) devices, except a few (sgs4g, sk4g, I think there is another), come with an internal eMMC (embedded multimediacard). This is usually where they put the data partition, for instance on the i9000, vibrant, captivate, etc.
For galaxys4g, we've been getting around this issue for a while with apps2sd. I really don't install that many apps anyways, so I never really run into this problem, but for those who have, that's what they've used. Most roms provide apps2sd (or similar functionality). I think with titanium backup, you can move apps to the sdcard.

Actually, here is a nice comparison (fascinate vs. galaxy s 4g vs. vibrant).

One more question if I may...
I flashed Valhallah Final on my phone.. I have A Voodoo sound app on my phone as well.. but when I clicked on it, it said that I didn't have the right kernel for it. Is it just a matter of flashing the right kernel to get the features of Voodoo sound on my phone? Or will that screw up the functionality of the rom that I already flashed?

I'd suggest flashing with cwm. Flashing the kernel won't change the rom. Except for blastoff which will change the wifi.conf.
With titanium, you can integrate those Rom updates into the Rom. That can free up a bunch too.

No, it does the modifying for you. you might want to backup the wifi.conf before you flash it, if you want to switch to sms or anton's.

Please don't laugh... HOW does one back up the wifi conf? Is it the same as backing up the system? Reboot into recovery then click backup?

I guess you could backup /system before flashing the kernel, but you really only need to backup the /system/etc/wifi directory.

I don't use titanium very much. Could you explain what you mean? Sorry (in some respects, even I'm a noob!)

It deletes the old file that the update replaces. You won't have the uninstall updates in settings anymore. I (assume) that when a system Rom gets an update, the old apk gets scrunched and lingers. This option frees up that space.

Updates to system apps get put into data/app integrating updates overwrites the original app in system/app so it frees up internal memory and takes up system memory. Also integrating dalvik into rom frees up like 50-60mb of internal memory.

Meh, I'll stick to releasing zip files

[HELP] Internal Storage not accessible

Hi,
Since a few days I'm unable to see any data in my phone via gallery or file manager or any application, and I'm unable to save any data to internal storage. (example: I'm able to use whatsapp for texting, but I can't receive/send any audio/picture and I can't access the old ones).
And I keep getting this error message:"com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication keeps stopping."
I don't know if that's what causing it or if that's just a consequence of not being able to access internal storage.
I can still see all the used storage from settings though.
Phone has unlocked bootloader, but no root/custom rom/recovery.
I saw other Oneplus users started getting the same error these days... (I have a Oneplus 6, but others have different models like Oneplus Nord).
Someone resolved by wiping system and they were able to retrieve storage content and functionality, but they lost apps data, I'm trying to find another way since I have an unlocked bootloader.
A user on stackoverflow suggested I should clean the com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication app data to regenerate the database, but I couldn't figure out how to do it
I tried cleaning media and media.module packages (not media.MediaApplication) from adb but no luck even if successful.
I tried removing "com.android.providers.media" (not media.MediaApplication, I couldn't find that one) folder from data/data with twrp file manager but no luck...
Is there a way to specifically clean "com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication"?
If anyone has any other suggestion on things to try, post it here please.
Have you modified any system settings recently? Or might be just some unorganized drivers.
Conect pc and make bakup your stuff...
Then on settings make Factory Reset...

Not at all... I never did any modding, and I saw it happened to people that were completely stock as well

Maybe it's just a common error, you could search it up on youtube but I guess you will have to backup and reset your device

I already looked everywhere but there is not much about it other than other users that are having the same issue

I had the same problem, and this is how I solved it. But it's your own risk.

Sorry, I see your message only now... Do you remember when did you have this problem? And was it this exact message on a Oneplus 6?
I have the problem of not being able to save anything in the storage or having a broken zip, always after using msmtool 10.3.5, I saw it in a post here about this file and it solved.
[SCRIPT/FIX] Internal sdcard permissions (/data/media/)
This should be applicable to any ROM on devices which share internal storage for applications and the internal "sdcard" (Note II, SGS3, probably others). Symptoms may include inability to take screenshots and other failures, and will usually show...
