Hello everyone,
First of all, I created a new thread yesterday to ask my doubts about stock firmware flashing, and now I am creating this new thread...I know I should not create threads constantly like this, but I dont by any mean to spam...this is the question I stumbled upon now while taking a backup with ClockWorkMod 4.0.0.2 on my Galaxy R and as this is not much related with flashing stock firmware, I created this new thread...Moderators please, please don't consider it as spamming...
Now to my question,
Here is all I came accross since last month...I rooted the device by flashing ardatdat's rooted kernel on my device using ODIN. Later I also installed ClockWorkMod 4.0.0.2 on my cell using ODIN. Then, I backed up the device using CWM. The backup procedure was completed successfully. After reboot, I faced a seriously low sdcard storage space. Unable to find and delete the Backup files, I uninstalled some big space consuming games and then moved on...
Yesterday, I decided to flash ICS stock ROM on my cell, asked on XDA about that, some of its replies suggested me to take a CWM backup instead of just Titanium Backup. So, even though I recalled my condition a month ago, I took the backup again. Before backing up, there was 0.99 MB/3.75G space available on USB storage (which I believe is /sdcard). Guys told me that backups are stored in external SD, so I need not worry about SD card space. External SD had 5 GB of free space. I ran CWM Backup, and rebooted the cell.
After reboot, It again showed critically low USB storage space... (3.73G/3.75G) and I wasn't able to open gallery, camera and music player due to lack of free memory.
I decided to find whereever those big backup files are!
I connected the device to laptop using USB storage connection, and then opened the /sdcard folder of it. It had a 'clockworkmod' folder, but it was empty. On my external SD card, there wasn't any folder named 'clockworkmod'.
Then, I decided to copy all the /sdcard folder to my laptop. I am running Ubuntu. While copying the folder, it gave the error in copying file from source path : '/media/8619-BFA/external_sd/clockworkmod/backup/2013-01-27.05.36.29/system.img' and the phone's USB connection mode got closed automatically!
That was one of the backup files I was trying to find...and now I got their location : '/external_sd/clockworkmod/backup'
Please note that '/external_sd' folder was not related to my External SD card anyway, It was simply a folder in my /sdcard/ path. And while browning the /sdcard on phone, the external_sd folder was used to show me my External SD card files!
Now, I can see the backup files in /sdcard/external_sd folder when viewed from my laptop, but /sdcard/external_sd shows my External SD memory card files when viewed from my cell file explorer.
Any attempt to copy the backup files in /sdcard/external _sd when connected to laptop results in disconnection of USB connection mode...
Please help...thanks a lot!
Sorry for being rude.

Buddy what do you exactly want.
Do you want the backups or.what?
Delete them via PC if you dont need them.and be done with it?
Why do.you want to copy them??
Install ICS..it will be simpler for you.
Trust me.
Plus one strict warning.
DONT ASK SAME QUESTIONS OVER AND OVER AGAIN BY MAKING THREADS.
WE SEE AND ANSWER YOUR POSTS.
WE KNOW THE LEVELS OF PATIENCE CROSS LIMITS WHILE FLASHING SOMETHING FOR THE FIRST TIME.
BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND!
WE REPLY..WE ANSWER..WE HELP.
NOTHING GETS AWAY UNANSWERED.
AND BE BRIEF..MOST OF US STILL DONT KNOW WHAT DO YOU WANT.
U can delete it using ur mobile or pc. Just choose ur backup location. And delete it.
BTW, there is no need to create a whole thread when we have q/a sticky thread. I have seen that ur also asking questions in other thread regarding the same issue. Buddy, pls b clear while asking the thing instead of whole big story.

I wanted to take CWM backup before flashing anything on my cell...but as the backup was eating my sd card space, I first wanted to know where the backup files are...
Anyways, I found them. Clockwork mod made a new folder named external_sd in my /sdcard, and created backup files there, instead of actually creating them on my external SD. So, I unmounted the external sd from settings, and then I was able to see the backup folder in /sdcard/exernal_sd.
I told the whole story because I wanted to make sure I don't miss anything important while explaining, sorry..
I would be thankful if I get to know any way with which the backups will get actually written on my external sd card and not on the external_sd folder in my internal memory only!

I have... I have 5 GB space on external sd...
But I think the thing is...CWM is not detecting my external sd and it is just making a folder named external_sd and storing the backup files in the internal memory itself...
Do I need to manually mount the external sd card in CWM or something similar so that it will detect it??

I don't know, but it's not doing that...if I flash ICS stock rom or any other custom rom, my /sdcard will be formatted? because CWM is currently storing backups into /sdcard only...

Yes, the place where the backups are is same as your image,
/sdcard/external_sd/clockworkmod/backup
But, they are not actually on external memory card...its just a folder named external_sd....but it is actually on my internal memory only!
Whenever I mount my external memory card, whatever I see in the external_sd folder is the contents of my external memory card...which doesn't have a clockworkmod folder.
Whenever I unmount my external memory card, what I see in the external_sd folder is above path and the backup files...
This is the image when I mount the external memory card...
For Deleting previous one. Flash V6 of CWM & remove previous backup using CWM.

We all know the popular SDCard (MicroSD) issues regarding android...
Yes, I know, this is only my 3rd post... I'm not a noob, I've been reading a lot from XDA since its early beginning... I was a symbian developer during its glory days... I do a lot of android but I am not into developing (yet) for it...
Back to SDCards... I've read a lot of post regarding sdcard problems...
My only concern is that the SDCard automatically mounts itself to read only after some read and write operations... I thought this was normal... But after some research, I found out that it was a sign of corruption... The gradual increase of files in LOST.DIR indicates a serious problem...
To give a more concrete evidence regarding this theory, I started testing with 2 Galaxy SL devices, 2 usb cables and 3 SDCards of different class and capacity... I use 2 Galaxy SL's to identify if my unit has a bad card reader...
These are the test that I've managed to perform:
1. Copy Music Tracks to device via Mass Storage
2. Copy files from Internal SD to External SD via phone
3. Download a large file using the phone and save the file to External SD
4. Delete a large group of files in External SD using phone
The Cards that are use are:
1. SD A (class 2)(4 GB)
2. SD B (class 6)(16 GB)
3. SD C (class 10)(16 GB)
These are the Results:
1. Using Mass Storage to copy Music Tracks to SDCard prove to be successfull (All SD's)
2. Copy files from Internal SD to External... The operation finished but after the operation, the sdcard was mounted as read only (SD B and SD A)
3. Downloading a file to SDCard... There are some instances that the download will fail because the SDCard was mounted as Read Only during the progress of downloading (All SD's)
4. There are some instances that Deletion of file suddenly stops... The reason, the SDCard was mounted Read only...
5. Every Instance of an error, a file is created at LOST.DIR (After the filesystem check at boot)
I check all SDCards to look into its integrity (via CHKDSK /R)... All SDCard diagnostic tools found no problem regarding the Cards... I put the same ROM on the phones (Rooted and Deodexed Stock KPQ) and both phones share the same results above... Recently, this problems persist in all the ROM's that I have tried (CM, MIUI, Stock) And all kernels (UC, Vurrut)... I think finding for a solution for our device first would help us create a solution for others too...
Anyone of you having similar issues...? Your solution and comments is highly appreciated... Many people are having these problems... Making data reliability on the SDCards quite frustating...
Is there a way to "permanently" mount SDCard as RW to prevent it from mounting as Read Only... I really hope that there is a solution to this problem...
Hi, I know it's been a moment but I'll share what I've experienced, my sdcard was supposed to be a 32GB one but in reality it was a 4GB one, you can't see it on windows through, lot of files were appearing in that lost.folder once I exceed 4GB and all my MP3 were getting mixed up, corrupted.
The funny part of this is that all steps trying to verify that sdcard (chkdsk) were showing no problem at all, now I bought a real 32GB from Samsung and it works fine
Your sdcard should be corrupted or just a fake one.
From my side I ain't getting any problem concerning the fact that my sdcard mounts itself as R/O

i dont know i have a class6 16-gig sd card and now i have the phone for a motherboard fix. they said that my 16 gig sd card were one of the culprits of the motherboard and usb storage (internal memory) excommunication of my galaxy sl. they prefer that i should use a 4 gig or lower sd card to lessen chances of this to happen again.
that's very strange... how can a sdcard "destroy" the phones motherboard...?

How shall that work? The only thing I could think of is that a device can not handle SDHC, SDXC cards and thus throws a error like "card corrupted", "no sd card", "card not compatible" but break the motherboard?
P.S. Why don't you insert the banner as to your signature in the user cp? Would prevent others to "quote" it.
The interesting thing is that I never had any problems with my cards, neither with my old 4GB class 4-6 or the new 16GB class 10. Also with the situations you mentioned. But now I know a bit better for what this strange LOST.DIR filder is... For me it's empty all the time.

Would you suggest that the phone is the one with problems..? Or maybe the possibility that both of my cards are bad...
Btw.. Can you change the mount of your sdcard using root explorer (r/w and r/o)..?
After formatting my card, the button to mount the sd to read only is gone, but after some time it returns.. Allowing you to mount the sd to r/w or r/o... I think that contributes to my problem

Not really, I only wanted to say that I never had such problems.
Mounting works, I have done it on my computer, but that won't make any difference:

Do you know a way to forcefully mount the card to r/w only..? In a way that the card cannot be mounted as r/o...
Sorry but this is a question I can't answer. I'm not a developer, but I don't think that there is some kind of "permanent" mount.
Samsung Galaxy SL SD card issues
I'm having the same problem. At first I thought it was the native music player because the problem would happen a few minutes after I'd pause music. The phone would restart on it's own, wipe the files on the SD card then restart. I downloaded another music player to try to correct the problem. It worked for a few days then it happened again. It wiped all the files on the SD card. This time it seemed to be worse. After a few minutes it restarted again, and this time wiped all the programs that were saved on the SD card, and reformatted the phone completely (including language and account settings). I have installed the latest firmware, and tried using the phone without a SIM card and it still happens. I basically have an unusable phone. Please help. I haven't tried replacing the SD card but I'm having doubts whether it's because of the SD card why the problem is happening. I used to own a Samsung Galaxy S and I used that card on that phone, and it worked fine. If I buy a new SD card, how would I know what kind to get and are there any other fixes to this issue? Please help!

That message will come....u hve to compromisewith that...as u are gaining a 32 gb of internal storage....by the way I want to make sure are u using infinity only or anothrr tab or device
For games and apps
Before swapping copy ur android folder to the external sd card...and then swap...this wud save ur most of apps and games but some u hve to reinstall ...
Advice...use titanium bakup and bakup all ur apps ..copy the bakup folder to ur pc...then uninstall all of apps...swap and then restore using titanium bkup

I cant compromise for a reason that every time it boots up that warning pops up this tablet is going to be mostly used by kids & if they click on that warning "format card" all data will be wiped in few seconds. If there can be a way to stop that warning pop up that would be great & will be a safe option.
I am indeed using funbook p275 infinity tablet. I will try once again with swap & test the benefits of the swap versus danger of formatting 32gb card by kids.
My understanding is that we only gain 32gb in exchange of internal (2nd partition) of SD card not the 1st partition on which the OS is running which means there are still many apps with big sizes we cant install as they need to be on 1st partition they don't allow apps to be moved to SD card so this gain in reality still does not let you gain more space on 1st partition as it seems it remains locked with a limited space.
Am I right in understanding this swap gain?

Most of the bigger gamez and apps like high end games such as modern combat...nfs most wanted....gta....amazing s.m.
Store there data on internal sd card only
But some apps like fb ..wtsappare not but dsnt creates much problem as its 500 mb...but still if uwnt to move them also use "link to sd" app....google for proer guide on how to setup& use link to sd...it needs that ur memory card (32gb)be partioned into 2 parts....

And once it is done high end games can be played easily

After swaping it's shows the external sdcard as internal but the internal sd which is now external is now not getting mounted. Whenever mount it, it shows 'Damaged SD card' and format option. Formatting that also doesn't solve the problem. Please help..

Hi Guys,
As you know guys MMX A89 doesn't have too much of a internal storage! We can't install large HD Games, we cannot install several applications because of the small memory restriction, So today i am going to tell you how to swap your internal storage with your external storage!
THE RESULT AFTER SWAPPING:

[*] Your Device should be rooted!
[*] This in for A89 Only!
[*] Although this MOD is tested, I am not responsible for any damage!
Prerequisites :
1. A ROOT Explorer (I am using Xplore)
2. "vold.fstab" File. Dowload it from below!
Now, Doing the Dirty Work :
1. Take a backup of your device via CWM/TWRP or any other recovery just to be safe.
2. [IMP] Copy every folder that is present in your internal sdcard to the external sdcard, so that your apps and games continue to work once you have swapped the sdcards.
3. Browse to the location /system/etc and you will find a file named "vold.fstab". This is the file that we have to replace!
See the screenshot below:
4. Rename existing "vold.fstab" to "vold.fstab.bak" just to be sure, Now copy the downloaded file here.
VOILA! You're done!
5. Just Reboot your device and go to the storage section on your device.
If the phone memory shows the external card properties, then you can thank me! and don't forget to format the newly prepared external SD card (which was internal a while ago ) as you have already copied the file to the newly made internal card!
Cheers!
With any SD card size or only 32GB?
Will this method work with 8GB sd card or need 32GB sd..??? if it not worked then can u make same for 8GB sd? plzz rply..

A simple question.
what if i removed sd card....or i want to change the sd-card after swap. Can you tell how to revert it?
To revert this, just replace your backed up vold.fstab file again...
Using ES Explorer (just use to this from back in the day, if someone knows a better file explorer I'm all ears) I have a file I downloaded via Chrome browser and it downloads on internal storage in download folder. I try to then Move this downloaded file to my external sd card and get the same error I would on day 1 of this device completely stock.
Am I missing something here? I have S-Off, supersu.zip flashed via cwm recovery installed so have full root, and even went a step further and flashed the unlocked stock kernal for full write access???

Also, in a perfect world I want everything I do such as downloads and screenshots taken go to my external sd card, not internal. I now have the HTC stock internet app and in settings I have it set for downloads to go to external sd card. Does this work? Haven't tried it yet.
Anyway to get screenshots I take to save in external sd card? Basically only thing I want installed on internal storage is apps I download and obviously tweaks and what not. Don't want to waste internal space with what can be saved by default to my 64gb external sd card. Appreciate any help on any of the above, thank you.

I use HandleExternalStorage module for xposed which lets me move files from internal to external storage. I am not sure if/how to save screen shots to external.

Someone pointed out a root app free in playstore called AFFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD. I guess it overrides all the Kit Kat permission to allow ANY app to install on external sd card and I then assume move files from internal to external and vice versa? My only fear is with all I have installed already (s-off, full root, cwm, unlocked kernal) I just don't want to install tweaks that override one another and screw up my device?
Trying to be as safe as possible here with what root tweaks and exposed stuff I install. Would u then just recommend the exposed tweak?
I'm in the same boat and so far I've had no issues. You can always uninstall it if it gets wonky.
I apologize stupid me getting ahead of myself. Duh, I'm not using a root explorer. I downloaded root explorer and was able to move zip file from internal to external no problem. Just asked for SU to grant and then did it. Geez, little slow today.

Xposed works perfectly to enable write to external SD. If you've never used Xposed before here's the Tutorial Thread for the framework (modules have their own support threads and Q & A threads): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Download the XPosed framework installer, open the app.
install/update the framework, select cancel when it asks you to reboot (So you don't have to reboot twice)
navigate back then tap "Download" for modules. You should see the module "Handle External Storage or you can just search it. More info at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2693521&__utma=248941774.106963766.1378650939.1396885674.1396892710.7&__utmb=248941774.1.10.1396892710&__utmc=248941774&__utmx=-&__utmz=248941774.1396892710.7.3.utmcsr=google|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=(not%20provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=201568018
Download the module
Check the box for the module
Reboot now everything should work.
And the best file explorer for me is FX file explorer. Just an incredible UI in my opinion. File movement happens in the background so you can keep working. My favorite file manager hands down.

Interesting because I have S-off, root, CWM and unsecure boot and us es file manager and can't transfer to external unless I use the xposed mod.

Probably cuz es file explorer doesn't use root. This is what I think but who knows. I would think will all the above installed we don't need half these exposed tweaks but guess not?

Actually it does. You need to activate root in settings.
Not sure anyone answered this but you have to move files in storage manager which is in settings. Settings >storage manager >make more space (under the internal storage section) which allows you delete files or move them to the external sd card. But I'm sure this has been answered somewhere by now in another thread.
So a while back I flashed Cyanogen on my Motorola G 2015 just to test and see what's up. Today I went back to stock rom, rooted and modified the heck out of it. I followed the popular XDA fastboot flashing method POST and got the "official" stock rom from this thread (It said modified in the bootloader after I flashed it 100% correctly, BEFORE I started to root and mod it myself, weird huh?) So back to the problem. My partitions are completely messed up now. It's not what it was before (I think). The Internal Storage is mounted on two separate points and my SD card gets mounted as something wierd. Here are all the screenshots you need. Please tell me how to make it normal again.
Somehow here it looks like everything is fine.

YET if I format it as adoptable storage, ie. as internal sd card I can't even find it, nor can any app detect it. (But I can actually use it to put apps in it via the storage options)
First lets see the vold.fstab file
I've never seen something liket this.
my /mnt/ folder
I found my SD card partition in /mnt/media_rw with a weird number FC36-1DFE.
Here is my SDCARD1
500mb, nice partition. Much wow
up until now this is all in INTERNAL STORAGE the only EXTERNAL ( MY 32gb sandisk microsd) with the weird number FC36-1DFE is the next screenshot
When I moved these screenshots to my SD card from my internal, my pc doesn't even see them. and if I try to move from internal to sd via PC, it just doesn't work (SOME TIMES).
???????????????
Finally the illusive internal storage !
but this is where the fun part actually begins
Here is the same damn internal storage in a different directory
Storage folder
I might be over exaggerating, cause I'm new at this. But I have major problems with my sd card and internal one, some things don't work right, and all this that I saw and screenshot looks dodgy as hell and not quite right. Or maybe everything is fine and I'm a retard? You guys be the judge, please help or explain what the hell is going on. :crying:
If this is normal please say so in a reply, if not, guys please help. Bump.
It sounds normal, maybe it's just how the root browser is picking it up. Back when I had formatted my SD Card as internal storage, it also had the weird name of yours, like FC36-1DFE, but only different. I'm sure it works just fine, but a way you could test is to install an app and then unmount the SD Card, and check if the app is inaccessible anymore.

Same here. But apps(even root apps like Titanium Backup) are unable to write to the SD card. When I use TB to try to back up to the SD Card, it says directory is not writable.

There is an easy fix for that, make Titanium Backup folder on your SD card, go to the app then menu, then preferences then backup folder location, select storage provider, document provider storage, now if you have the stock explorer as default select the 3 dots on the upper right and select show SD card then select the 3 lines on top left, select your SD card then press select on your bottom right side, now select the Titanium Backup folder u made and restart the app.

My SD card is not formatted as internal and it shows with those numbers.. The problem is that when I do format it as internal storage it disappears for apps instead of being the only one showed like before, since in MM when you format your SD card as internal the internal storage disappears and not the other way around :/
