Has anybody noticed that this phone works with gloves on? - Nokia Lumia 820

Pretty awesome feature if you ask me. I wonder why they never advertise it.

Really????? Cmon man!

Seriously! I thought there was something special about my gloves until a friend tried it through a dinner napkin, then a t-shirt, then a hat....

i think that when they anounced it, they said that this feature would be available

It is advertised for the 920 but strangely enough never for the 820. There is a extra "settings app" called display+touch where you can enable/disable this feature (and I think it is on by default)

Yeh both the 920 and 820 have super-sensitive touch

It was actually one of the most advertised features of 820/920 Works really well!

I love it for the bloody cold european winters.

Has anybody had improved battery life by turning this feature off?

Has anybody had improved battery life by turning this feature off?
No effect at all.

No effect on battery life for me when Iremoved it..
But IT IS AWESOME in winter here in Finland. I just love it

Useful for the cold winters. =D

it's a PITA when it's hot and your hand start to sweat... becomes non responsive with 0,0001% moist. lol
in the winter is great though
620 also have this feature BTW

It was supposedly their trick, they advertised it :cyclops:

Solar powered Screen protector

This will be out 1st Quarter next year, it is a screen protector that is photovoltaic and thus, charges the phone
http://gajitz.com/next-gen-screen-cover-will-be-the-light-of-batterys-life/
Pretty interesting I WANT ONE NOW.....
thats wicked! i want one now
Now if only there was a way to put this screen on our already existing phones... I can dream can't I?
whoa that rules!!!!
So it begins...does anyone remember the Matrix trilogy...the machines soon no longer need us to survive!

It's NOT a screen protector. It's not something you can just place over your screen and carry on. This is something that the manufacturers build in to the screen so is only of use to new devices utilising the technology.
Great idea, fantastic idea, for new phones only.
Amazing idea, they must put this on every new phone
Sweet. could use one of these
woooww! It's fun to see "the future"... That technology would be good for us since we no longer need to charge, but it would be good for the planet aswell! Loving it!
That will be way cool!!
Cracking idea! I hope they get in production asap!
Dude thats way too cool if it works great.
This is called innovation
Great cncept.. really liked it
Thanks for Sharing!!!
Can't wait for it!!
That's some pretty awesome technology!
Whoah! That's awesome. Wonder how clear it'll be? This would definitely reduce how often I need to charge my phone
this is super cool technology
I hope that making the product and disposing of it would be as clean as the technology its supposed to be...
That is awesome.

[concept] htc blast ...

I recently noticed in several HTC reports that customers want HTC to renew their design for their future phones ...
Here is my personnal answer to this fact ...
All your comments are welcome.
The entire concept with many others images on NAK Studio
hope they dont go with cheap plastic.
I like this phone. I will be waiting for this one.

I know it is a concept phone. I didn't mean I was going to wait for it hit the market before I get a new phone. It was more me saying that I am looking forward for this style phone to hit the market.
1280x720 screen, nice!
Looks a bit like the SGS2
Otherwise, Wicked phone!!!

Neat, but it seems unnecessary. The cartridge would be the majority of the cost of the phone, so having several and swapping them in and out doesn't seem like it would save you much money... plus, the cartridge has a plastic shell, which slips inside another plastic shell, so it'd be thick... but sturdy!
I do like the name "HTC Tube" - it begs for a case called the "Tube Top."
Very nice job. Looks pretty slick
Very nice concept, I love too. Hoping that the 1800 mAh battery keeps battery life (over 12 hours) .
Thank you.
HTD HD2
I like it, and you?

Overall it's a nice design. But it makes me wonder, where the hell the battery been putted?
A 1800 Mah should be a thick battery ( unless the battery is thin, but cover the whole background )

That would be a fine idea seeing as they can fit a 1650 into the S2 and look at that beauty!
But I would add several things to this. Firstly an MHL port, just for fun Then I would rip out that dual-core snapdragon and place in there the upcoming nVidia Kal-el, quadcore awesomeness. The screen should be toned down a bit to around 4.3/4.5.
Hmm what about autosteroscopic 3D screen and 3D cams
Very nice phone. I like almost everything about it. My only complaints:
1. 4.7"!!!!! TOO BIG!
2. At 720p, that's going to be a ***** on CPU/GPU thus killing battery life quite fast. Also, almost every app won't support this res and will end up having black boarders or something.
3. (minor complaint) would prefer the volume rocker on the left instead.
Otherwise, EPIC phone. I'd love to have that phone.

Notice the removable grey back cover? It looks pretty massive. Considering that the phone has a 4.7" display, I'd imagine there's more than enough space to fit a huge (long and wide, but thin) 1800 mAh battery in there but keep it thin enough.

Always curious to hear.
Got mine yesterday.
It's all screen! Lighter, thinner than GS3. Feels more like a small, thin Note 2 which is a good thing to me. Not so bubbly as GS3. Screen is amazing. Bloatware is out of control. The back looks kind of like snake skin.
The speaker is much louder than GS3. So far, I love it. Haven't even tried the features yet!
Anyone else?:good:
Got mine yesterday as well. Extremely nice screen! Gorilla Glass 3 resists finger prints better then advertised in my opinion and the overall 5 inch display is incredible. Super zippy but yes, comes loaded with Samsung and AT&T Apps but this shouldn't be too surprising as Samsung did advertise there software quite a bit. Only natural they put there mark in it. On the flip side all this is easily fixable once a root is out but EVEN with this stuff the phone manages to handle it's memory well and work fast.
Overall I am glad I waited and after a couple of weeks I think there people freaking out are really gonna kick themselves for getting all worked up over stupid problems that are easily dealt with.
Got mine yesterday. see my bloatware thread.
Hardware is amazing and top notch. Software is so bloated and bogged down that, when combined with locked bootloader, I will strongly consider returning.
People might flame me for this, but even with the bloat disabled and using Nova launcher, my gs3 running slim bean is faster on everyday tasks.
Just hit 5% battery life and the phone just automatically reduced brightness to a point that I can barely use it, and phone won't let me crank it back up. Just way too much garbage.

screen is mind blowingly good, i had a HTC one for 3 days before i got my GS4 and honestly the one was closer to the s4 then i thought it would be. the one had less bloat and it stutter a bit less (after freezing bloat my phone has gotten ALOT better). camera is awesome love the quality and wow this phone is so small for 5 inches. coming from a note 2 and a temporary lumia 920 this thing feels tiny and light, honestly one of the major selling points of the gs4 is it's bezel less design (imo). if bootloader stays locked for long i am selling it or trading it for the one or octa core version.... its a shame that the stock rom is so bloated, i traded the one back because i thought sammy software would blow htc out the water but it didn't . One more thing, the GS4 tv remote works 10000 times better then the htc one. htc could not sync to my sound bar or u-verse box no matter what i tried, the GS4 had that working in seconds. i have 3 remotes just for my bed room and the fact that i do not need them is a huge plus.

You might need to play with the settings some more for the auto brightness settings. As for the lag, AOSP ROMs have always been faster (in my experience) to Touchwiz Roms. I'm going to put up with the stock Touchwiz for as long as I can before trying out the first releases of AOSP on the GS4. I'm hopeful we will see some crazy development action if it's true the Quad-core international version ROM's can easily be ported to the US versions and vice versa. The international GS3 had so much to chose from. I was perfectly happy on my GS3 using AOKP, but I'm sure I'm not going to regret moving over to the GS4. I had the same debate when switching from the GS2 to the GS3.
I dont get mine till tonight, but I found one in a best buy mobile store and was surpised at how much stuttering I saw just going through the homescreens.
Im hoping that when I disable all the eye tracking stuff that will all run better.

Here are some photos I snapped this morning in challenging conditions: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/oll6vneulv13mz6/TZcApg0pCD
Overall, better than Galaxy S3 by a decent margin. But I used to have an iPhone 5, and my initial impression is that the IP5 takes better pictures than the GS4, at least in these conditions. I feel like it was extremely rare that I got a bad photo out of that phone, even in a relatively dark room as in these pictures, but as you can see in my link, several of these are pretty bad.

Your pics look pretty good to me. I'm viewing them on my 24" monitor at work though. Cute dog btw. I'm sure compared to the ip5 the gs4 will have better detail due to the higher resolution in normal conditions? Is there an exposure setting? Or other settings to help low light conditions?

Now that I've taken a second look, I guess you are right that they are pretty decent, except for one of them. I'm so used to looking at things on a small screen that when I blow it up on a big monitor I expect it to be just as sharp on a big screen as it was on a small screen!

i agree. those pics you posted dont look that bad. that's the problem with the htc one camera (i own one) when you increase the resolution of the pic, the quality suffers due to only being 4mp. the gs4 is 13mp so it wont be as bad when you increase it's resolution (although there will still be some kind of quality drop off).
Just frickin' awesome. After having the Note this "cheap" plastic feels luxurious
Got mine today. Coming from an LG Optimus G. Here's a few thoughts.
1. I really like the keyboard. But since I've been a swiftkey user for a long time that's no surprise.
2. Screen is very good. Wish it was a little brighter when using auto brightness, but it is very good nonetheless.
3. Maybe I'm just not that picky, but I don't notice any lag. At least not anything bad enough to complain about.
4. Seems to charge pretty fast with the included 2 amp charger.
5. It might be plastic, but I can tell you I like the light weight and the feel in my hand better than my LG Optimus G...
6. I thought the 'swapped' menu and back buttons would bother me. But to be honest, I kind of like it better...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
I have a few questions,
1. Does the speaker have 'stereo sound' like the HTC one? Can you hear the base? What about hooking up to the headphone? Does it sound better than S3?
2. Anyone here uses Allshare cast? I have a Samsung LED Smart TV that I stream movies directly from my phone to the TV with a touch of a button on the S3. It does have occasional lags, however. Does the S4 do the same?
3. Does the S4 have the same amount of ringtones like the S3?

I actually really like the button setup. When I got my first smartphone like three years ago, it was a Blackberry, and it had a similar button arrangement. It went [PHONE][MENU][HOME/SELECT][BACK][END CALL]. My current Galaxy S2 is [MENU][HOME][BACK][SEARCH]. So the S4 will be the same as I am used to, and I will appreciate not having to get used to a new setup.
two issues.
1)wifi keeps on disconnecting... very annoying
i have another device on the same wifi, but it's not disconnecting at all.
2) RAM. even if i clear everything, i'm at 1.2GB ish.. i always notice the homescreen widgets refreshing themselves due to low RAM.
anyone else?
everything else is fine.
speedy, beautiful screen, good speaker, very nice camera, etc.
Speaker is very good; coming from S2

Hi Nick
As you have both devices is it worth the upgrade from the U11 to the Plus? Apart from the almost edge to edge display which brings it in line with most of the current flagships, the rest are pretty similar and it'll be even closer one the U11 gets Oreo.
But I do like HTC and the pricing is competitive and it's a really nice phone.

Hi Wil,
I also look forward to Nick's comments, but i thought I'd jump in and give you my 2 cents, seeing as I also have both the U11 and U11+ now.
At the end of the day, value is a subjective thing, and, if you already own a U11, it is probably not going to be considered great value to upgrade to the U11+. That being said, I did it anyway. Here are my thoughts on the comparo.
Pros:
The U11+'s screen and speaker combination is a dream, especially if you watch a lot of videos. The colours on the SLCD are lovely and punchy, whilst being natural. The speakers are great, even shareable in moderately noisy environments
The U11+'s shape is much easier to handle than the U11, has the rounded back but straighter sides and a flatter front makes for a firmer hold.
Front camera is better. just is.
Oreo - Although U11 rollout is also starting, so many of the features are available soon.
Cons:
Oreo - there is a new notification for apps running in background. thats irking me.
Lack of accessories so far.
Its only my second full day, so jury is still out on batter performance, but it is better than U11. question is how much better.
Yeah l agree it's definitely better overall but how much better and would it be an upgrade upwards or just a sideways upgrade.

What do you think of the battery vs the U11 now it's been a bit longer? I've got the 2 XL and am loving the phone despite the issues others have had but the huge battery on this phone (and cheaper price) make this very tempting

Hey there,
So, for me, its not been an apples vs apples comparison, as my U11 was on LeeDroid, which had a lot of battery optimisations, plus enabled VoLTE on my network, which allowed the phone to stay on LTE rather than switch to 3G for calls, etc. So my U11 was "optimised" for a lack of a better expression.
Through long term monitoring on GSAM, my U11 would give 3.5 hours of SOT and 12.5 hours of standby on a full charge.
Using GSAM now, my + is lasting 4h45m SOT with 17h31m standby. So, significantly more, but I rekon there's more to gain when HTC updates the firmware with further optimisations or when Devs have good ROMS ready.
Good Thread and i am hoping to jump on HTC wagon again after touch pro and Mate HD (forgot the name) Been using Sammy after that note 2 and now S6. Question i have is it too big or hand feel ratio feels better. I know from S6 it would be feel big hopefully similar or smaller than S8+. Note 8 is too big and pricey for my liking.
Second and most importantly would be battery. I know its early days but i just want it to last me a day at least. I generally use for work and clash of clan games. Mostly indoors but at times i am travelling thats when i want it to hopefully last 1 full day. I would be interesting to know more about the battery tests.
TIA.

Cheers mate! I would say I'm a little disappointed but I'm guessing you leave everything on (Wifi, LTE, BT, etc) given that you only get 3.5hrs with the U11? Just reading around the subforum for that phone, it seems others can get pretty impressive battery life for a 3Ah battery.
When the phone is sleeping, can you double tap it to wake it without picking it up? That means without triggering the motion sensors. This worked wonderfully well when I had a pixel XL earlier this year and I would love to see it on the u11+ as I already pre-ordered it.

Yeah, depends on usage pattern, but mine on u11 is ~6hrs of SOT and ~1d 9h standby.

That's really too bad, especially without the fingerprint scanner on the front. Hopefully a custom kernel will add it in the future, although I don't expect there will be a lot of development for this device.

Double tap to wake works on htc devices w/o motion sensing from htc 10 times. The other person is wrong. It worked on my U11 too whilst I had it. I'm sure it's present.
You don't need any custom rom. And you have nothing to worry about.

Like I said, I've used it. It works if the device is flat on any surface. Just need that option checked. I'd think the double tap is read as motion?
If you see other options in that setting, it's things like swipe down twice to launch camera. I'm pretty sure you don't need to lift the device to do that. So yeah.

Guys.. My Divorce Finalized Today...

Damn.. I Can't Believe It.
It's Over.. you start out truly believing the love is going to last forever.. that nothing can come between you.. but as time marches on, as with most of us.. the magic fades a little. You try not to let things get too dull.. so you do different thing in the hopes that it will keep the spark alive. But at some point, you let yourself slip and get that wandering eye.. you know what I mean? You don't mean to.. but stuff happens.. hey, sexy is sexy.. and we are human so... you drift apart not wanting to admit it.. but it's there. You finally get up the nerve and realize it's simply time to let go.. to get the divorce over with so you BOTH can move on.
But when the day comes.. and you know it's a done deal.... it is still quite the shock.
I'm going to miss you baby... and I wish you nothing but long life and the best of health.
Good Bye Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro / Global. :crying:
Ho ! Do you plan having a real life one day?

A70 should be a great phone. Just that 6.7" may be a bit too big for many.
Looks like a nice device, let us know how you find it? Pros/cons/compared to RN5.

Please take a look at the attached pic... it's the same width.. and about a medium fingernail taller.. ( I think 5mm ? ) It's just ALL SCREEN.. and the Notch is a Non-Issue with 4K Amoled wallpaper (which is what you should use to experience the brilliance of an Amoled panel) you forget it's even there except when you use "Lift to Wake" - Facial to unlock it.. the ring around the Notch lights up in sequence.. until it verifies your face.. it's pretty cool to look at..

Thank You.
Yes.. It's a step up to be sure.. 100% happy with the purchase.. it's faster even without tweaking Animations, Screen is incredible, OneUI is set up better than Miui 10, in display fingerprint reader works flawlessly once you learn where to put your finger, 4500 mAh battery is just SICK with life and the Always on Display is a God Send.. It interfaces perfectly with my 19' Camry where the Xiaomi is not even acknowledged..
The best way to describe an A70 is: " It's 90% as fast as a $1,000.00 S10+ (see speedtest comparisons on youtube) It has 100% of the S10+'s OneUI.. and it cost about 37% of the S10+..
To conclude... WIth a 4500mAh Battery.... and 25W Superfast Charging compared to the S10+'s 4100 mAh Battery and 15W Charging System.. I think it's the Steal of the Samsung Line..

Nice man, I didn't realise it had half those features, especially the in display finger print reader!
USB type C, FM radio AND still retains the 3.5mm headphone jack. [emoji6] An absolute bargain for less than half the price of the S10 too! Enjoy [emoji106]
