[ROM][CM-10.1][JB 4.2.2][KANG] NameLess Bean [28.03.2013] - HTC Sensation

Hi!
I've decided to post my build of CM10.1 for all you flash-o-holics so let me introduce NameLess Bean:
based on CM10.1 sources
bruce2728 kernel sources
Evervolv's media-legacy and display-legacy repos (up to 22.03.2013 build)
Arco's media-legacy and display-legacy (since 28.03.2013 buil)
What's not working:
while in call touchscreen stays active even when backlight is off because of that you can accidentally do all weird stuff while talking.
1080p recording credits to cile381
MHL (most probably I have no means for testing this but I've also made nothing that could possibly fix this)
gfx glitches when playing video using Gallery
tethering fixed upstream (CM)
no autofocus while recording
System Settings>System>Hardware keys "Enable custom actions" does not appear to work (thanks @zath for bug report)
Sweep2Wake causing random touchscreen freezes
most probably there is more and I'm sure you'll find it fast
Additional features:
Frequent contacts in Contacts and Phone app can be hidden (see settings in Contacts app)
sweep2wake control in Settings -> Display
pinch to zoom (all credits go to ufrat
scrolling cache disabled in framework
audio volume control files taken from ARHD 7.0 (most probably HTC is the real source of those)
Install notes::
If you are coming from any other ROM wipe everything (except SDCard) in Ext4Recovery (Do not use Superwipe script!).
When upgrading from earlier version of this kang there is no need to wipe anything.
Make a nandroid backup. Just in case.
Flash the ROM
If flashing for the first time flash GApps.
Reboot
ROM can be downloaded here:
NL-J.org
Box.com
Please use latest GApps from Goo.im
Sources are on my GitHub
Please add logcat if you are reporting a bug. This will make my life a bit easier. THX
Now the most important part:
You would have nothing to flash if not some hard working people:
Team Cyanogen and all devs that contribute to this project
Vorbeth, TamCore, intervigilium, cretin45, for their excellent work on getting CM on HTC Sensation
bruce2728 for his excellent work on CM10
Team Evervolv for getting things done for CM10.1 on HTC Sensation
ufrat for pinch-to-zoom camera
arco and tbalden
Big THANK YOU!!

+1? Just wondering
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium

The differences from albinoman887 ROM are minimal:
working GPS
no frequent contacts list both in Phone and Contacts (frequent not starred)
it's safe to use even with kernels that do not have built-in thermald and mpdecision
Both mine and his ROM are based on CM10.1 so naturally they are similar. I'm quite sure that you can switch back and forth between albinoman887 build and mine without wiping.
Team Evervolv uses some mixture of pure AOSP, CM10(.1) and their own changes. As a result they f.ex have working 1080p recording. As I mentioned in OP I've used their work too.
Why I posted my build? Well I tend to build ROMs for my own usage. I thought maybe someone will make some use of them too. And I can feel the fun of having Android again... Just like in the good ole HTC Dream and FroYo days....

How much time you spend on it per day?

Today? hmm took aroound 2hrs to figure out the gps thingie (not counting build time) thermald/mpdecision was easy so not counting it at all
Before? At least 4hrs probably some more.
Why are you asking? Does this matter at all? After all I'm doing it for fun so time does not matter that much
I've just now started complete rebuild of sources with a bit of repo rebasing. I think this should make build more consistent. Most probably the build will fail so tomorrow I'll have something to do. If not I'll probably add Sweep2wake control in Settings or have a look at tethering depending on the mood if my wife or kids won't mind

delete..........

thanks for contributing. Tried to download, but got Out of Bandwidth from Box.

Awesome, I think I'll try this soon. I remember you from the G1 forums. Great to see some CM 10.1 ROMs!

I can report that adb was not picking up my device with your rom. I could neither push or pull or any other function with adb. Reverted to a backup and it is fine now. By no means a complaint, just informing you if it helps. Everything else seemed to be good. Thanks for your efforts. Regards.

Odd... I've been using adb quite a lot.. Did you enabled developer settings in ROM? (tap several times on build number in About phone in Settings). If not - enable them and check again.
THX
BTW I've added another download location in OP.

silly.....of course. My bad, simple oversight on my part. Preoccupied with something else when I flashed. Works fine. Sorry for the post......deleted. Good work bro.

i downloaded today in the morning, till now works fine, happy to have it:good:
im planning to use this a s my daily use rom, we will need to see how about battery drain in next days.

Thanks for the ROM NLJ. Been testing since last night. For the most part, very solid, just the odd thing here and there. I received two calls, during the first my ear managed to set an alarm for Sunday 9 am and the second managed to change my time zone and kept setting off key tones like it was pressing on the dailer. The proximity sensor had the screen off, but it still managed to do things behind the curtains. I'll test some more today.

You should have a serious talk with your ear, playing with other peoples phones is bad.

I've noticed that too and I'll update OP with this bug in a few. Don't quite know where to start at fixing this tho.
At this moment I'm trying to rebase whole source tree and get rid of Evervolv repos as it seems they don't like this. I've spent whole sunday on this but it will take some time
Right now I have two separate source trees and one of them (the one I've build ROM in OP) is quite a mess. If time permits I'll make it compilable again today and see if I can fix this bug as it seems most serious atm.

New build is up on OP.
I managed to find a workaround the bug reported by namaste74. Let me know how this works for you.
As small bonus you can now toggle sweep2wake in Settings -> Display

awesome, will be setting this up now and put it through basics tomorrow. Really love 4.2.1, be great to iron out the issues.

Thanks so much ... personally I'm gonna stick with Leedroid until prox issue is resolved because it ****s me off when my face starts pushing buttons mid call ... but this is really the news I have been waiting for since I got this phone.
Flashed and working smoothly.
Will begin noob test.
work at 8.30 not looking fun...
Thanks soooo much!!
what a difference
something I noted - DSP manager is not working, means settings have no effect
So, is the sound volume any better with this ROM? I guess it could show us if the low sound volume is a hardware or software issue.
i flash this rom and then find the cinema not working
when start the cinema,it is crashed and only to restart the phone
if one would know what you mean by cinema....
yep, it was my favorite in the old days that i playd with the google nexus one, but now - dono, i have some weird feeling to stay with the new "sense" for now.

sorry,i means the camera does not work
just ported the minimal theme to it, and by porting it, i seem to have corrected the proximity issue....
How did you 'port' or apply the theme then?
ported, made some modifications, updated to buzz kernel v07, created update.zip, applied zip, finished
So from that, what can you give us that will fix the proximity sensor issue?
(Just about to take a look at the ROM myself )
honestly, i have no idea .... i must say though, i didnt check for the error when i flashed the CM port from raider (didnt make any calls). Just updated to CM6.1 then went straight to porting MinimalTheme (as I cannot stand the stock android look anymore)
So I went straight to porting - either the error/bug was not there in the stock CM port in the first place, or is only an issue on raiders device, or when theme-porting it solved the issue. hard to say to be honest....
but the port included the phone.apk -> which means, this may very well be the root cause....
I used to be CM'ed to the latest release on my Magic/Sapphire, religiously. But since I've had my DHD I've kind of lost the plot on the benefits of CM over Sense as it is now. It seems to be working very smoothly as is.
Can someone spell out what the benefits are.
Also, mainly because I haven't investigated flashing on the DHD, I take it there is a way flashing back to the original via nandroid or some such?
The proximity sensor is picking up light and returning values.
I tested it with the "Light Sensor" app.
Also, on my phone the screen does turn off when making a phone call (didn't change anything on the system, it worked out of the box).
Things I found not working so far:
- Auto Brightness (someone else can confirm this?)
The proximity issue is related to the phone.apk, what device did you port the theme from?
does the htc sense service work with this rom ?
i love custom rom, but i also love the htc sense service (disabling phone, erase phone and locate phone from the htc sense website)

BangL's UNOFFICIAL CM7.2-RC1 BUILD for p920/p925
Current build version: BangMod-beta16
Project stopped until it makes sense to continue...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24752098&postcount=27
NOTES
- Echo issue is not completely fixed but some ppl reported that they don't have the issue, so try out and report. good luck!
- This is an UNOFFICIAL build of CM7 ( CyanogenMod 7 ) for p920/p925 and this is NOT my ROM. I am just compiling from CM Source and 100% credits goes to TeamDouche, Ricardo Cerqueira and all the coders who contributed to CyanogenMod.
- This is similar to a nightly from CM but has some extra goodies baked in. If you can't handle some things possible being broken, please don't use this and then complain to me for building it.
- Wondering why its named "BangL's"? - usually i am "BangL", the name was just already used here
- This is still beta! Be careful and do backups before you use it! I am new to building ROMs and i don't even own a p920/p925 phone.

Thanks for your work. Is there a echo during calls in this ROM?
-----If it ain't working, try something else. ------
i dont really have the chance to test everything, cause i dont own a p920/925.
i got the one of my fellow-worker for one day, and i tested now the p925 variant on the froyo(v10k) baseband, and there is a kind of echo. -.-
the guy who calls you will hear himself more than he hears you.
now i will try the 920 variant on gb baseband ...
EDIT:
the p920 variant on the v21a baseband seems awesome. The calling quality is nearly the same as on my p990.
should also work nice on the p925 with a gb baseband
EDIT2:
hmmm.. it looks like there are still some issues with the prebuilt cm kernel for p920...
bluetooth and usb seems unstable.
i just put an experimental build online which includes some files out of stock firmware, i hope that this could fix echo calls. But it is also possible that it wont even boot up.
any volunteers?
EDIT:
wasnt working, building experiment #2
why does nobody report?

Hi,
I had tried to install the experimental one, but once have installed by recovery mode, decive doesn't start... It's like a bootloop but with black screen.
Before, had you said that the p920 versiona haven't got the echo issue?? For me, this is the principal issue from the CM7 roms. Can you confirm than this rom haven't got this issue?
Sorry for poor english.
Best regards.
PD: I'm on beta11, and i can't connect to my wifi, doesn't find it...

Yesterday we tested the p920 by one simple call, and it was better than with the p925 variant, but still not perfect.
So no, i absolutely cannot confirm this build haven't got this issue, but i really hope that i find any way to fix it. (it will be hard without having the phone)
Thats why i'm trying out some stuff with the experimental builds now. Can you check experimental2? it is up now.

i also noticed unstable wifi yesterday, but i got it working by enabling/disabling it some times.
I didnt know that this phone is so problematic at cm when i started building this. -.-
I will borrow the p920 of my working fellow-worker over the weekend, so i can start excessive testing.

Thanks for your work and effort. Gonna try experimental2.
ok. using cm currently makes no sense at p920/p925.
so i will freeze building until ricardo fixes the incall echo issues.
as far as i know he is on it, so just hang on.
i recommend to use ThiaiZ stock based rom until cm works well.

Hi,
In Rootzwiki, Ricardo said:
"I really have no idea of what the echoing is. I spent a ridiculous amount of time calling myself yesterday and can't find anything wrong with the voice quality on a P920 using the v21a baseband.
So... what's the device you have, and its baseband version? "
So i dont't think he had been working to fix the incall echo issue.... Have you talk with him? Do you ask him about it?
Another question, it's a noob question but, have you tried with another dialer if still having the incall echoing issue?
Thanks.
No, i didnt talk to him. I just read his rootzwiki posts before that one.
So he dont know about the issue, and he is not having it.
Well.. i also just have it in one way: for me the voice is completely fine, but the one who speaks to me is hearing himself more then he hears me. I also tested this alone, with two phones.
No, i didnt try with another dialer yet.
Ok i will compile now beta13 with latest changes, you guys could test again if you want and then report who have the issue and who not. please also tell us which baseband ure using.
maybe theres still a hope for the p920/925? we will see.

For me (like you) the issue is only in one way, the one who speaks with me ears his own voice more than mine.
Downloading the new rom fro try it... then report you.
Thanks
I'm running beta 11 P920 variant on AT&Ts P925 with v20c.
No voice echoing on my phone.
At least no one has said anything!
Been running for 24 hours, so far so good.

I have tried it, beta 13 with bb v20p and still having echoing issue.
In fact, i have installed two alternative dialers (DWcontacts and Exdialer) and this ones doesn't fix the issue.

Google Apps for Ice Cream Sandwich:
You need to find an stable gapps for your needs!

First, big thanks to Qualcomm and their user space library that was needed for HW acceleration!!!

Everyone who has shared their working ICS source - It has helped a lot in fixing things
Instruction/fixes/changelog is here:
10.Apr.2012:
Wifi signal icon is fixed
13.Apr.2012:
source totaly cleaned after some tests (pull reguest from Cyanodenmod cm9 repo + very small changes (like untached)), right key is in board_device_liberty
gps fixed (I'm not tested)
very fast and smooth response on everything
lightsensor fixed
libcamera.so is patched from msm7k to msm7x27 but not working (need to port old QualcommCameraHardware.cpp)
27.Apr.2012:
Camera preview and camera shoot is fixed, not stable but working good [credits to modpunk, WinSuk and all who shared their source]
Ics librpc for gps fixed [credits to modpunk]
kernel updated [there was problem with memory allocation, so camera not worked from that reason...]
a lot of framework changes/cleanups is fixed by Cyanogenmod team so... [all credits to him]
maybe I forgot something?
light sensor/backlight is fixed and tested, please read this:
How to enable utomatic backligh:
- go to settings/display/brightnress and set it to automatic
- go to settings/display/automatic_backlight select use custom
- go to settings/display/automatic_backlight/edit_other_levels and set 0,33,77,220,308,397,485,698,860,1023 seccond column 66,96,103,115,130,152,152,255,255,255 third column 255,255,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0, than save&apply
- go to settings/display/automatic_backlight and select allow light decrease
- go to settings/display/automatic_backlight/decrease_hysteresis and set it to 50%
Now its totaly automatic for me...
28.Apr.2012:
rom is deodexed now!
03.May.2012:
New kernel with realigned Aria memory layout (heap size is increased for 8MB {adsp_size have 4MB more, gpu_size have 4MB more})... no more (sometimes but very less) force closes
New kernel modules (cifs, tun, nls_utf8, bcm4329.ko)... its needed for mounting network folders
New camera updates (Thanks WinSuk)
New memalloc and gralloc lib (disabled annoying "debug" log for memalloc... now its only "info" and "error")
Video still is not fixed (my wrong sorry... some HQ videos working but most of HQ videos not working )... I think maybe reason is not good because googleOMX is msm7627 ?
10.May.2012:
New kernel with new allocators (not fully ported from kernel 3 "contiguous memory nomap" only part of it )
Kernel, enabled SLOB, enabled KSM, enabled LZO compresion needed for zRam... and a lot of other... you can see all changes on my git!
New camera upstream updates + camera timer + updates from WinSuk git (Thanks WinSuk, s0be, cm team and all who working on camera)
A lot of fixes from upstream
No force closes (added some scripts to init.d like zram automout, zram auto free, free pagecache, free dentries and inodes, modules automount, gps permission...)... but in prevention of force closes, you need to free memory sometimes to get android stable(I use airdroid app and his great memory releaser)
Old librpc + new gps.conf (gps have fast lock now)
First config screen on first boot
Video still is not fixed
Camera recorder is not fixed
You need to enable "kernel same page merging" in setting/performance. To get full working autobacklight you need to enable "allow lights decrease" in settings/display/automatic_backlight. You do not need to enable zram, it's enabled by default by script until compcache_enable is fixed android side, kernel side it's good. This build is more stable for me!
13.May.2012:
Logo for my kernel
Some tweaks for ram (you will have constantly 90mb amount of the free memory, so... less force closes or maybe no force closes)
Camera recorder is fixed but... ((camcorder recording but no one cm9 rom for Aria have video encoding/decoding hardware bassed, its software bassed... 15 fps... we need hardware bassed compresion/decompresion to get fully working recorder and youtube videos)
07.Jun.2012:
Mobile networks choosing in Select Network
zRam full fixed, you can enable/disable/set_size from settings menu
A lot a lot a lot of Cyanogenmod upstream changes
kernel: Framebufer console during boot (Its for fun... if you not like it I will disable in next build)
kernel: VR IO scheduler
kernel: InteractiveX governor
kernel: deep sleep mode
09.Jul.2012:
All new Cyanogenmod upstream changes
kernel: Framebufer console during boot disabled
kernel: deep sleep mode (reverted back to like previous build)
some progress with FM radio (all is fixed and working but only have no audio ... maybe some one have some programing skills to find what is wrong with audio? Or maybe to manually send command to kernel to get fm audio routing to headset?)

Looks good! I'm really impressed you got EGL working; it looks pretty much complete. If you get camera working this might be a daily driver! Thanks so much, man. I'll look forward to it.

Thank you for your hard work. Since installing your ROM a week ago I haven't been able to boot into CWM recovery any ideas why? It just hangs at the HTC logo. If I boot into CM 9 no problems at all.
Thanks

Try reflashing recovery.
First post is updated, there is link to rom! I must to say, after many pull reguests from diferent github sources Im not surre if it is better than before, I need to revert it to begining (my cm9 that I compiled before), so if you see something strange or something better than before, please report it here. Current progress: gps and camera still not fixed, allso wifi signal strenght, I tried everything but it not working, but for camera I will ry to increase adsp memory region because have error from there. For gps, its hard for me, not understand how to fix it, tried linkung oncrpc devices to current defined oncrpc device, but gps not working. Wifi signal icon allso have problem becouse it need wpa supplicant v8 but we using v6, v8 is not possible compiling because need hard porting...etc...wake up by oj is fixed, bootanimation is fixed, data usage metar fixed ... in any way I will continue working with kernel to get something about camera... enjoy!
Thanks munjeni, for bring CM9 to the aria ^0^

<DISCONTINUED>[KERNEL][KK4.4]Notest Kernel with Linaro 4.8 and aries-cma

Warning!
- This is not a stable (enough) build, (but) a random reboot or system hang (still) may occur
- Default color tweaked with darker look, this use color multiplier value from samurai kernel + my gamma set
this can be set in bbelos unofficial build. In official nightly this can be set from terminal or root explorer in this folder:
/sys/class/misc/color_tuning/
- Video capture & playback (cma problem with or without ksm) mostly working.
In rare condition it need long time to start (5 minutes or more).
You can wait it if you have time (recommended) or simply restart your phone.
- Kexec not supported!
- Maybe some more...
Features and changelogs:
build 20140401
Compiled on this HEAD
- Update iniram & cwm from 20140331-NIGHTLY
- Enable KSM_CHECK_PAGE
- Enable Advanced TCP Congestion Control
build 20140324 for 20140323-NIGHTLY and newer
- Update initram & cwm from 20140323-NIGHTLY
build 20140315 for 20140307-NIGHTLY and newer
Compiled on this HEAD
- Add 2 patches to improve swap & revert aries-common: zRAM: only read one page at a time.
This time I prefer this kernel doc:
Code:
It is a logarithmic value - setting it to zero means "1 page", setting
it to 1 means "2 pages", setting it to 2 means "4 pages", etc.
Zero disables swap readahead completely.
The default value is three (eight pages at a time). There may be some
small benefits in tuning this to a different value if your workload is
swap-intensive.
Lower values mean lower latencies for initial faults, but at the same time
extra faults and I/O delays for following faults if they would have been part of
that consecutive pages readahead would have brought in.
over aosp guide:
Code:
By default, the Linux kernel swaps in 8 pages of memory at a time.
When using ZRAM, the incremental cost of reading 1 page at a time is negligible and may help in case the device is under extreme memory pressure.
To read only 1 page at a time, add the following to your init.rc:
`write /proc/sys/vm/page-cluster 0`
build b4 march for 20140228 nightlies and older
Compiled at this kernel HEAD and initram
build 20140313 for 20140307-NIGHTLY and newer
Builded at this HEAD
- Switch cflag from -Og (reverted to -O2 then) to -O3, the kernel size was much bigger & reduce user RAM to 416MB
- Use newer linaro toolchhain 14.02
- Add aries-common: zRAM: only read one page at a time
imo default linux value will give better performance, but I prefer to follow aosp guide like in stock cm-11 for galaxysmtd.
build 20140310 for 20140307-NIGHTLY and newer
- Add 1100 oc step from mackay, full charge indicator from sc-02b and 2 other commits
build 20140308 for 20140307-NIGHTLY and newer
- Use ramdisk 0307 nightly with 144mb zram (stable enough)
build 20140305
Kernel changes in here + ramdisk 0228 nightly with 256mb zram (not stable)
- if you find phone service crash, maybe I need to update the initram soon
- default color tweaked with darker look, this use color multiplier value from samurai kernel + my gamma set
this can be set in bbelos unofficial build. in official nightly this can be set from terminal or root explorer in this folder:
/sys/class/misc/color_tuning/
- Video capture & playback (cma problem with or without ksm) mostly working, but in rare condition it need long time to start (5 minutes or more).
You can wait it if you have time (recommended) or simply restart your phone.
- add 2 commits from codeaurora I found in cm gerrit for other device to improve zram & I increase zram size to 256mb. this lead the kernel to more unstable, will fix this in next build
- kexec hardboot code removed (not only disable)
- other minor things
build 20140226
- Add 2 video for linux commits, ARM uaccess & merge android-3.0 aosp
build 20140219
- 1.2ghz OC step
- 417mb memory from pawitp cma-test
- Color & Gamma Calibration support for CM-11 Unofficial
- KSM support, off by default & recommended to disable
- aries-common: increase zRAM to 128 MB
- Kernel config for smaller kernel size (mostly taken from semaphore kernel for i9000 by stratosk)
- Merged to aosp android-3.0 kernel common
- Update gpu driver to DDK [email protected] (as on mackay kernel and others for i9000)
- Compiled with linaro-toolchain-binaries 4.8 (32bit)
- Older CWM from Preview CM-11
- Display boot progress, zcache, lz4, etc.. as commited here
Install Instruction:
- Already on CM-11 is required & unofficial build with color calibration is recommended.
- Flash from CWM or TWRP as usual

Nice. How's the boot time improvement with lz4?
Also, unless my original issues happened to get fixed along the way, I might recommend reverting this one. https://github.com/didhiy/android_k...mmit/d54908fa8d8574e1e424fd4db3a4fd3be3d580d0
I ran into a lot of problems (reboots, etc) before forcing FIQ. And when I tried to debug it by adding no_console_suspend, the rest of the issues magically fixed themselves, which probably points to a race condition. But since the reboots were gone, I just left it in. I'm curious if it helps your instability.

actually I only use it for initram (rd_lz4) not the kernel, since in aries it will create big kernel size over 8mb. never try it in epic yet

I have random reboot with it enable before, so I think somewhere in my other commit cause the trouble
my best guess, the problem came from "full charge indicator from sc-02b" so I revert it & seems run much stable now (can pass 3 days uptime)

Just a thought for now, but we might be able to get away with shrinking the recovery partition to increase the boot partition. The recovery.bin can be made smaller if needed. It's 6mb right now, but there's a LOT that can be trimmed out. I started reading about lz4 last week, but haven't had a chance to pull in any patches to test. I think that'd be worth trying though.
EDIT: Actually, cdesai reminds me that changing the boot/recovery partitions is probably a bad idea, due to the bml over mtd business. Need to keep the offsets where they are.
Also, I've been curious about testing out pawitp's cma patches for a while now. I know he says it's not stable yet, but the extra ram is intriguing.
Testing the cma patches in a cm kernel now, with 408MB ram. Gonna see what blows up. Video playback was a bit funky, but it fixed itself after a reboot so not sure what that was about.

I add some patches from codeaurora & linux-next here:
https://github.com/didhiy/android_kernel_samsung_aries/commits/cma-test
you can abandoned the ksm things & some part maybe useless or unrelated, but at least video capture almost never failed for me with ksm disable
maybe you can find some idea to improve the allocation failure thing (one of pawitp to do list)

it happened by an accident usually I change the branch name because it's difficult to apply new patch to the recent branch (too many commits to revert back)
in the beginning of notest commit, I've plan to create a stable branch without too many additions.. but I can stop myself to try something & too lazy to switch between branches so, here it is the "no-test" became "ni(ghtly) test" & going further with experimental cma, lz4, zcache etc... it should be "nu(tty crazy) test" in essential
Hey didhiy,
Add all the Crypto commits from Linaro here: https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commits/xb/arch/arm/crypto and topology here: https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commits/xb/arch/arm/kernel/topology.c and https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commit/28e4da175964a7f9f07c894faebe4805528f6c40 https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commit/9687d1d3805ed51a342b4290bff8984a50decb3b https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commit/175cea2c517f08b97aa5cde16a33623f51cde7b6 https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commit/143c6b536ee7a9e5256431de209aaf06e5704ec1 https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commit/1d55b62f2fef82d9113321d02728cbeda6620ecf https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commit/c219c0fd75543ccf5c998fcdca3483b1e8f53e56 https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commit/43ab731f3feb1ab9ae05e168bbe721e00983456c https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commit/0ce8a298dd86268af5fdb68557f8f374c577bccf
and the power efficient workqueue commits on this page: https://github.com/xboxfanj/kernel_msm/commits/xb?page=12
Should make the kernel a bit smoother and more battery friendly
As far as KSM being broken, may as well disable it in defconfig. For default color, either change the gamma values in the kernel or tweak MDNIE.
Other than that, nice job

thanks, will try to apply the patches soon
yeah, I think disable ksm for next build is the best solution
since you mention mdnie, I just remember that I used mdnie from aries kernel that have 6 modes configurable from sysfs, will try them one by one first... if still looks ugly maybe I'll revert it too
@didhiy
I've been using your notest....20140226-cma.zip with the CM11 Nightlies until today's. Flashes OK but on reboot keep getting android phone stopped errors. Also, happens with the one dated 20140120.
:crying: Please....I need that extra 200Mhz
Seriously, Just an FYI.
Thanks

I still on nightly 0228 rom, got no phone crash
If you have older nightly, I suggest you try install again on top of it
afaik, there's qcril things in some newer nightly that broke old ril like in i9000 (maybe epic too)

I got an info from semaphore s1 kernel thread that said need to update initram to fix phone service
I read this just after upload a new build
build 20140308
Features and changelogs:
build 20140308

[ROM][AOSP][5.1.1] Slim ROM Beta 0.14 #Back2Basics [Unofficial][2016-January-13]

First of all - all credits go to cordell and Slim Team. After will left the hlte slim scene, I found great gap when it comes to light and functional roms. Aim of this rom will be to stay close to Slim principles, but optimised with various toolchains and adding few features that I deem necessary.
This is the worst OP ever.
At this stage, it is still early to add or request features, as Slim just started developing again. When the code settles, I will have my own take on this rom. It will stay small, fast and stable above everything else.
Slim is back! Getting better with each release.

Smoothness and speed!
Not working/missing:
No slim settings yet.
Because of the above no way to setup home-to wake (but power button works).

It might be too smooth and fast for some people.
Observations:
New Slim features new cm-based app ops (yay), including built-in root.
Camera has storage settings option.
Quick Boot works (in dev settings).
It is smooth and fast.
Thanks, do mobile connections works this time?

Yep. I wouldn't post otherwise.
Will try this soon. Thanks for building so many different roms.

I am flashaholic like the rest of you. If nobody wanted to build I had to. [emoji12]
Remember this kind of ROM is not everybody's cup of tea. Not many features, but boy it feels light.
Then it's my cup oft tea. After searching for more and more features since Note 1 I settled down a bit and search for a stable slim rom.
Btw. Will is back in the building game for hlte but only with a slim cm build.

Nice rom. Two issues: didn't figure out how to activate recents and battery use is on the high side.
Will go back to euphoria

FANTASTIC !!
MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOUR WORK AS WELL AS FOR STARTING THIS THREAD !!
Have used (and really enjoyed) ROM intensively at work for the last three days or so.
Very - very light, smooth, rock stable and lightning fast !! (windows open after you think and before you click !!).
Love this bare bone feeling !!
Appreciated very much the save photos to sd option as well as the enter instead of emoticon in keyboard (no need for x-posed modules) and the volume buttons moving cursor options (I think both are missing in AOSPA - also an EXCELLENT ROM !!).
Lovely grey signal bars for 2G turn white for 3G - LTE.
Quick boot option is there to activate but shut down function in advanced power menu doesn't actually shut device down, therefore unable to confirm that it works.
Minor issue: after boot, ROM hangs for quite a while (I haven't timed it but I'm getting the impression it takes quite a bit longer than other 5.1.1 ROMs to boot up) in home screen before lockscreen is activated (therefore danger of shortcuts getting accidentally pressed in one's pocket etc).
A cupple of functions I could definitely live without but which would make (my) life easier if present:
Phone keypad T9 localizations.
Symbols for long press in AOSP keyboard.
Battery percentage (instead of icon) option for taskbar (I COMPLETELY ADORED the semi hidden -like easter egg- function when pressing the little battery icon in AOSPA's battery settings).
Another small thing: I think missed calls appear as received in call history.
And possibly no more than a cupple more (almost not worth mentioning) I don't remember.
My hardware buttons workaround is currently "gesture navigation" x-posed module that does an excellent job once one gets used to it (I will probably use it instead of buttons from now on).
Currently trying AOSPA daily at work (this, to me, is the only real testing) which gives me a very good feeling of fluidity, smoothness and stability though without the imediate responsiveness that Slim does (often reminds me of "Broken" which, after all is a Slim on steroids). I will post in the appropriate thread (many thanks for this also) when I'm done.
All the best.
Yours as always

After a long while, new update is up. Lots of updates. Enjoy.
The ok button is unavailable when putting in the sim card number so I have been unable to use the Rom even after a factory reset

Many thanks again encho.
Excellent ROM overall.
Enjoyed and still enjoying. Using since yesterday afternoon (24 hrs) <-I too always come back to Slim & have a tendency to stay->.
Really fast and light feeling even after having lived with Broken for 24 hrs so:
speed & snappiness 990/1.000 (agreeing that the latest version of Broken is always the standard for speed & snappiness ie 999/1.000 unless stated otherways).
No lack of any feature I would consider essential or find hard to live without. This said, hardware button mapping preferably with ability to assign app or shortcut to long-press and/or double press (excellent workaround for this is Gesture Navigation x-posed module), phonepad button T9 localization and long press phonepad button speed dialling would definitely have made my life easier.
Slim Launcher integration is very welcome and the addition of Personalisation>Interface in settings very promising for having one or two more features in future builds.
QuickBoot mode in Developer options an excellent addition - but Power Off command in Power Button long press menu doesn't work when QuickBoot mode is activated (works fine otherways but then there's no QuickBoot- haha) so let's say:
features 900/1.000 (agreeing that the latest version of BlissPop is always the standard for features ie 999/1.000 -or maybe I shouldn't have mentioned this at all -LOL- going to try latest version imediately after this)
Stability now is 999/1.000 since all basic settings and built-in applications work fine (QuickBoot mode is more of a feature than a basic setting so it doesn't count). And which ROM shall we agree is setting the standard for stability ? Probably EOS I should think.
Anyway, this was a first try -hopefully will mature over time (& get shorter and more juicy). I will try and post every time I have tried a new ROM / ROM version, either for a very short time (ie flashacholic's curiosity to see what's "inside the box") or for a longer period, at work etc. For anyone who happens to read this: please feel free to suggest anything and always remember that this is done purely for fun.

Great review, people will know what to expect before flashing. :good:
@encho thanks for the update and your hard work.
Are you planning to make this rom compatible with other custom kernels like arter97's or temasek's?

Soon, I hope. Lots and lots of commits coming from slim team, so it would be pointless at this stage to do any framework changes.
