Verizon GS3 was running the new ota 4.1. Tempted to root and now its Bricked. It will only boot to the yellow triangle telling me to take it back to Verizon. I have tried to use Odin the flash back to stock and it will not for the life of me. If someone is home and willing to call me and walk me through this I will gladly fork over some cash.

I have been there and done that
Most likely you, while installing a custom recovery or custom ROM, forgot to unlock your boot loader.
For future reference you can unlock he boot loader using this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mmmeff.ez.unlock
I hate to say it but I doubt his method is going to fix your phone in this situation.. I have been in this situation and you need to follow the soft brick method here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030
90% sure your binary count has been tripped as well and you will need to reset that as well if you ever plan to ship to Verizon.
Binary count number can be viewed in download mode by the way.
Flash count can be reset useing this app.
After you unsoft bricked.

Let me know how everything goes. Feel free to pm me.
Hit that thanks if I pointed you in the right direction.

You mean when since not everyone will take the time to do some research before they embark on this journey called rooting.
hope you get it fixed man.
but just for future reference, (sorry if was already said, didn't read the thread)
a brick is just that, the phone is worthless, cannot charge, no lights, no nothing you cannot get it to turn on or do anything.

Hello! I just recently got my infuse, I had serendipity build 3 and I wanted to give MIUI a try (people said it had worked) and my cwm began to install then proceeded to say it was checking something but I can't quite recall what it was. I know it was a noob move but plea don't badger me, help ASAP would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't boot, the samsung logo shows up then "galaxy s" for a split second. When I attempt to connecty charger it goes into an endless bootloop every few seconds. I am not at my computer but will be in a few hours, as I am on vacation. Thank you very much to anyone who helps.

MIUI builds exist, but you can't just grab any MIUI build. They have a large number of issues which is why distribution is limited.
I suggest you Odin/Heimdall a Gingerbread kernel and then reflash Serendipity VII from CWM. Make sure to do a data wipe before rebooting.
I was using the s7 rom. To install miui boot into recovery flash miui then reboot. When it fails to boot pull battery and hold volume up down and the power button, should boot into recovery again. Then you need to flash miui again wipe data factory reset then reboot, all should be good

Hey guys,
So I have the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket with AT&T and I have it rooted etc. Today I tried flashing the MIUI rom, but was unsuccessful due to a message saying "Installation aborted". So I did as I read to do and wiped cache, Delvik or w/e, and then I reformatted the SDcard to redownload the ROM, however when I rebooted the next time it did not boot back up. Now I have the phone completely dead it would seem, I have tried the button combinations, etc to no avail.
What happened and is there anything I can do?
How can my phone be bricked if I never got to install a new ROM? I can't be without it for too long so any answers would be appreciated
Thanks,
Smernst

Well there are symptoms of Brick See below and find ur category!!!!
appdroid said:
Brick → When used in reference to consumer electronics, "brick" describes a device that cannot function in any capacity (such as a device with damaged firmware). This usage derives from the fact that some electronic devices (and their detachable power supplies) are vaguely brick-shaped, and so those which do not function are useful only as actual bricks. The term can also be used as a verb. For example, "I bricked my phone when I tried to modify its firmware.
Hard Brick → When your phone does not turn on at all. When you can’t get in to CWR/CWM Or Stock recovery. You are basically screwed. If its hard brick Here is thread that will help you!!!
Soft Brick → When your phone bootloops. When you can get into CWR/CWM. When You can use jigtag to get into download mode.

I just went in to the AT&T store and they are sending me a new phone tonight and it should be here tomorrow!
Now, does anyone have a guide to recommend for getting, say, MIUI onto the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket? I don't know enough about the versions, mp5, etc to do it alone, and a safe guide would really help me
Thanks

Soft Bricked my phone yesterday by overlooking a most likely common mistake. I flashed CLM Recovery but accidently selected the wrong model UGHHH! Now I get the T Mobile Screen and I can get into download mode, thats it. I am aware of this Vibrant AIO ToolBox but Im not sure how it works and I am aware of ODIN which I have also never used. I downloaded ODIN and it does recognize my device. It looks pretty simple to use although I may be wrong. One of my major problems is I can not download any Stock OS Roms because the range at about 200mb and I am currently staying with a relative that has dial up. I dont know if I could get something faster through email. What I would like is step by step instructions on how to get my phone back to stock or somewhat functional. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we all know how hard it can be without your phone. Thanks, J

People with bricked phones shouldn't give advice. I am supposed to help you on teamview and was going to message you when I was done eating and now I see you giving outdated advice to someone
OK, the bandwidth thing is going to be a challenge. I don't have all the answers, but one question is "Do you have a 'nandroid' backup from before you flashed?"
If so, you might be able to get away with just flashing a kernel with the same kind of recovery that made the backup (I'm guessing ClockworkMod recovery?), get into recovery, and restore your backup. Kernels are a lot "lighter" than ROMs, 5-8 MB typically. Still a long haul on a modem, but better than 150-200 MB!
I personally use Heimdall, not ODIN. I find the "one-click" collection good for getting a phone back into a usable state.
From that collection, AntonX-Basic_with_a_twist-v1.1.0-NO_OC_UV is 18.7 MB, and that includes what you need to install, assuming you have Java (~16 MB, I believe) and the Microsoft C++ executables (4.8 MB) already. You'll want to make sure I suggested the right kernel for the backup you have.
Another question is do you have a "good" ROM or kernel on your microSD? You might be able to unzip it on your PC and find boot.img and then install it with stand-alone Heimdall (9.6 MB, with the same caveats about Java and C++ libraries).
There's always the local coffee house with "FREE Wifi!" if you have laptop with a WiFi card.

First download KC1 clean up HERE This will contain the pit, csc, pda and everyting you need to get you phone opperational.
To get into download .... remove the battery and usb cable. Then, WHILE holding vol + and vol- put the battery in and plug in the cable. Afterwards you should get a screen asking you if you want to enter download mode. Press vol + for yes and then you get a screen saying------> Downloading Do not turn off target
Finally upgrade to KC6(i think) which is 2.3.6 ---->Get it Here<----- It is stock....with all the tmobile bloatware
This should get your phone to work..... oh yea obvously you need odin
Root using super one click
Done!
If you want custom roms go here, it will tell you how to install a custom kernel WITH Clockwork Mod recovery installed, CREATE A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST. Then download any rom you want here and put it on your sd card...Finally install it using CMR
If anything goes wrong use the nandroid you created
STOP you only have four posts and have stated you flashed all kinds of wrong stuff on your phone...you also are telling him the hardest longest way to get fixed. No need to flash all that.
I just tried to flash Jellywiz for the first time. I forgot to unlock the bootloader prior to flashing the rom. I know.........So Stupid.
Anyway. I've tried the odin trick but my phone just has the yellow triangle with the message that the system software in not authorized by VZE. I can't boot into recovery to restore my backup. Odin doesn't seem to work. I'm trying to follow the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030 But I'm not getting the "PASS" message.

folks...i will say it again, you dont need to use puremotives guide to recover in this situation. just flash a stock rom in odin and be done. there is no need to flash bootchains...use section 6 of my guide, then if that does not work use puremotives guide. not trying to take anything away from pures great writeup, but its intended for devices that are actually soft bricked. i only recomend flashing bootchains if absolutely necessary because if anything fails during the flash, you get a hardbrick....then its jtag time!

bootchains are the order of operations for the boot process(aka bootloader). some folks have had thier devices emmc internal memory get corrupted during a cwm session causing the system permissions to read only. since no data can be written on boot, your device is stuck in a bootloop. reflashing the bootchain followed by the stock rom restores the proper boot sequence and read/write permissions allowing the device to boot. the kicker is you want to make sure nothing goes wrong when flashing a bootchain or its brick city. hopefully this makes sense lol

I rebooted into the new rom and got this: System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless... rebooted several time with same result.
What can I do now? Thanks for your help.
Just a wild guess, but me thinks your bootloader is still locked! But I'm not sure that will even apply because I rooted my device before unlocking the bootloader. But I rooted my device via ODIN first.
You can try EZ-Unlock via the Market. The GUI is still very buggy and will show the status as unknown but the internal workings of the app works good.
You got nothin to loose in trying. Go back to stock and give it another whirl after you've unlocked the bootloader.
Of that fails then I would suggest using the tried and true method..ODIN.
G'luck!
yup your bootloader is still locked
check the downloads thread and use version 1.2.
That means your boatloader is locked. You now must Odin back to stock and start over. Droid style has a guide stickied in the development thread. Follow section 6 of it.
Next time use ez unlock version 1.2 to unlock you boatloader.

Cool, I take it you're up and running again. Just make sure you use ez unlock 1.2 next time. And the positive is you're an Odin pro now!

Hi, I have a Verizon S3 flashed to Boost Mobile. I tried to gain root by flashing a stock rooted Rom and messed up the flash. I had to take it back to be flashed again Now I'm more cautious before hand. I should have backed it up before attempting it, I know I know lol can anyone shed some light on how to update a flashed phone as well as how to root it. I could really use the help
Also after I messed up the boost flash I paniced and flashed a sprint kernel hoping this would fix the problem. Since then anything that I've tried to view including taking camera shots and web browsing if done in landscape mode will be upside down, any remedy for this problem? I know now... root first, flash later.

Sprint kernel is causing the inversion. Flash a vzw kernel. Read first flash later.
