[Q] USB tethering with Cyanogen - Samsung Infuse 4G

Whenever I try to tether my XP laptop tells me that I need to install a driver in order to tether. Where do I get this driver? I am able to use it as storage fine.

To USB tether on my win 8 and macbook, I use pdanet, aside from the 10mb limit, it works great

Yes I understand but when I plug in my phone to my laptop it is asking for a driver for the infuse.

Just for driver, you can install kies.
But I an not sure about tethering driver.
What I recommend is make WiFi hot spot. U can also connect your phone top PC if you worry about the battery life.

What kind of connection were you using? WiFi should be very straight forward and works well for me in Arch, not Ubuntu though. Haven't tried bluetooth/USB yet.

I am trying to get my 3G connection on my netbook using my nexus s. Is it possible? Or is the 3G tethering for windows/mac only?

Worked fine on my Sammy i9000.... setup teethering, run ifconfig and u will see another Ethernet number eg eth1 or wlan1. Just select that network in your network manager and good to go

There will be a 'usb0' device when you are using USB tethering and networkmanager should recognize it automatically.
I just tried on mine to see if it would work, connected my phone's usb cable to the computer, went in settings/wireless/usb tethering and checked in usb tethering....works great, nothing more to it then that. Using Ubuntu 10.10
I can't even get Ubuntu to detect my nexus s. How?
There's a thread (Stickie) in the General section telling you how to unlock bootloader and root on Ubuntu, it'll also tell you how to install the drivers for your computer to detect your Nexus S.
Here's a link to it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883032

Tethering no longer working on captivate

I was using tethering on captivate to my work laptop, my kid accidentally bumped the phone and it came unplugged from the usb cable. Now anytime I try to use tethering it will not connect to the laptop. Usb ports on the laptop work with other devices. Phone is running serendipity 6.4. Phone charges fine and I am able connect to laptop with usb debugging. Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you tried rebooting the phone and computer? Try a different USB cable maybe.
Yep! I have rebooted everything and I have 3 different cables. No luck yet. I was hoping this would be an easy fix

it may be a driver issue on the computer. Assuming you are on a windows machine go to device manager and see if there are any device errors. check under Network Adapters, see if you have Samsung Android USB Remote NDIS Network Device listed. If its not listed right click scan for hardware changes. Update or repair the driver.

I've always found Wireless Tether to be more reliable than Mobile AP.

This has the sound of a hardware issue. I would try to get wireless tethering up and running
Like the others said try wireless tethering, I've never gotten it to work any other way with my laptop.
You could also try the reinstall drivers option in Kies, when I was having trouble with Odin detecting the phone even after it had worked before that option in Kies fixed it.
Also, try a different USB port if you haven't already, you mentioned trying different cables but not USB ports.

Usb tethering

what am I missing here.. Plug in my phone via usb (running cm7), check usb tethering and I should have internet on my computer right?
I'm running windows 7, sorry I tried searching but everything was related to wifi hotspot which I don't wanna use.

Try enabling Debugging in Applications--> Development Also check your device manager to see if your phone shows up and if there's a problem.

Debugging is enabled, it's showing up under network adapter as "remote ndis based internet sharing device" and it claims it's working properly.

Weird, after a restart it's working. thanks!

I checked my XP computer and it shows up as the same "remote ndis based internet sharing device". I wish I had a Windows 7 computer to check. You could try a different computer to see if its CM7 or the computer. Also check your network connections in Windows 7 to see if it shows up, it does in XP. I wonder if Windows 7 is blocking the connection for some reason. Since it shows up in device manager it should be working.

Glad you're up and running. Tethering either by wifi or usb can be very useful.

Teathering Question

Recently picked up a Dell XPS running Windows 7 64 bit. I've been running PDANET through my Charge on my old laptop with XP previous with no issues.
I installed the Samsung drivers and downloaded the PDANET installer for Vista/7 64 bit on my Dell. I got everything running well. After 10 minutes of surfing PDANET stalls and becomes unresponsive on the laptop and it stalls. I have to go to task manager, kill the PDANET, and restart.
My wife's Thunderbolt does not have this issue.
I'm sorry this isn't very phone specific but I'm at a loss where to troubleshoot. Anybody had this issue before? I've done lots of searching and can't come up with a solution.

Have you tried wifi tethering?
I find Wifi Tether to be more reliable.

That is it! I downloaded foxfi and the connection is screaming fast over PDANET. Thanks you!

I had it running on bluetooth through a dial up connection, however, I tried to run it off WIFI and when I went to connect to the network it asked me for a Verizon network security key. I have no idea what that would be.
Any ideas where to look for it?

Odd USB mounting issue

So I have a post floating around on XDA from months ago about my usb mounting not coming up when plugging my phone to PC. I have been using my digital cable box which has a usb connection to charge my phone. Oddly enough it shows my usb connected sometimes when plugged into that but never when connected to PC. Sorry if any typos i hate typing on my phone. Would love to get my usb mounting back. I just use airdroid for file transfer but need wifi to use it.

Make sure the correct drivers are installed. Connect it and check on device manager how your phone is identified.
you can find the drivers on the iset thread
