hi guys, just a quick and simple question.....
in windows vista, if i sync up and sync all contacts, where does it store this info, in xp it saved these contacts to my outlook, but on vista, alli have is windows mail and there are no contacts in there, i cannot seem to find them anywhere and need to know this works before loosing all my contacts with an upgrade.
i actually posted this somewhere else, i think it was the wrong forum, so added another here...
This forum is mainly for running Windows Mobile 6 on the HTC Universal.
However, here is how I understand it: If you don't run Outlook on your Vista machine, you can't sync your contacts or calendar... and that is REALLY stupid since Vista HAS a Calendar built-in!
For contacts, check in the 'Contacts' folder under your Username (click Start -> (username) and then Contacts. If it's not there, I don't know where it goes. I bought Outlook.
checked that, windows mail, no contacts, windows contacts, no joy, i even had a copy of microsoft office 2007 running the other day and still didnt work.
has anyone got any contacts synced up with vista??
I used to have Vista running with Office 2007 and it synced ok to Office, but after a couple of syncs it stopped recognising the device. After a lot of playing around, I came to the conclusion that Vista sucks the proverbial ass and is not really ready for release yet, so I downgraded again to XP.
My flatmate has stuck with Vista and is having the same problems on his Wizard. I do think it's a problem with Vista more than WMDC or the phone. Vista's 'Security' features render it pretty unstable at accepting communication with most devices as nearly no drivers are at WHQL level yet, even the inbuilt M$ drivers. (That's purely my own opinion, thousands disagree with me!).
Sorry I can't be more help.

no worries fella, any information is good, i must admit vista has its good points, but fails on many needed values, especially when connecting devices with there own software.
unfortunatly, i had no choice in the matter of getting vista, my old laptop died and i couldnt get hold of a new one fast enough that still had xp installed. i didnt even get a backup copy of vista to downgrade then upgrade at a later date. oh well.
i heard about people using a virtual machine to run RUU for upgrading devices, i might give this a go... its a pain in the arse, but i really dont want to loose all my contacts....
My Universal seems to be syncing with Office 2k7 just fine. I haven't tried in a couple of days, but I'll give it a shot tonight just to make sure everything is working okay. I'm even running as a non-administrator.
Once you have Office installed you just need to make sure that the boxes are checked in mobile device manager. Have you installed the device manager update? (links towards the bottom of the page). That might help a bit.
i was running Vista since it RTMed and i have had no problems syncing Universal with WMDC, even when it was in Beta stage. Now with fully updated WMDC and Office 2007 Pro i cant see any better partnership for my device. everything syncs just perfectly. And i will never go back to Active Sync or XP for that matter. Vista, Office2007, WMDC are soooooooo much better.
I AM LOVING IT....
its all sorted now, thanks for your help guys.
i just reinstalled office 07 and repaired device as a new device, ticked contacts and it worked.
woohoo
Syncing with Wondows Calendar/Contacts
Right, I've got Vista on my new laptop but have no intention in acuiring Outlook 2007 for it (at the moment I'm running Office Home and Student 2007 - no Outlook any more, just Onenote, don't get me wrong I love Onenote!) I was just planning on using Windows Live Desktop Mail and Windows Contacts on my laptop as I have a desktop running the full Office Auite. However, I would like my hpone to be able to sync contacts and calendar onto my laptop.
Does anyone know of a 3rd party app which allows for WMDC to sync with the built in Calendar and Contacts within Vista?
Currently my Desktop in running Office 2003 and Active Sync 4.1 on a XP Home SP2 OS.
My laptop is running Office 2007 and WMDC on Vista Home Premium.
My phone is a T-Mobile Vario II running WM5. I'd love to upgrade to WM6 but I'm a bit worried to use a home brew as I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to switching. I just wish T-Mobile would support the Vario II the same as the have done the Dash!
Any suggestions for keeping all my contacts and calendar up to date across all three devices?
Hi,
I don't really believe that there is such a tool (nothing found with google) but...
I want to exchange appointments from S710 to my old SDA (runs also with WM6.5) to have know my appointments when I use my old "beach-mobile". At the moment I need to send Pimbackup-file via bluetooth from s710 to SDA and recover datas. Or I sync via "Microsoft my phone" (I have no outlook) but then I need to start my notebook because SDA has no WLAN.
So both ways are annoying - and if there would be a way to sync from Mobile to Mobile via bluetooth (not with single vcards/vcalendar) that would be great.
Does such a tool exsist??
Regards Odiad
Try to get an old Outlook (2002 is ok). It should be part of any device delivery for WM2k3 or WM5. Still you have to get up the PC but your devices stay in sync for what you configure.
Hi tobbie,
I've got an old Outlook version (don't know exactly which) but it runs not on my Windows7-notebook. Before I changed to Win7 I did this via Outlook. But I use a other email software, and to buy a newer Outlook only for syncing makes no sense in my opinion.
And a direct sync from mobile to mobile via bluetooth would be excellent. But I haven't really believed that I get a positive answer from anybody.
regards odiad
Set up a virtual machine in Windows hosting XP then install Outlook there or install the old Outlook on Windows 7 as an old application (XP mode). The first should work for sure.
My preferred VM is the VMWare player, but WM7 has an own.
Hello tobbie,
sounds good, but I googled a little bit after your hint (haven't installed a VM yet) about virtual machine and Win7. Windows Virtual XP machine on Win7 is only available for Win Professional or ultimate. But I've got only Home Premium.
And I don't know if there is a suitable freeware-VM, and if I have to pay for then it makes no sense for me. I don't need so often to sycronize my both mobiles, so I don't like to pay for it.
Regards Odiad
VMware player is free - I also use it and it is very comfortable. You can attach/detach USB connections from/to host/VM and vice versa. Definitely worth the time!
But first try should be to get Outlook running in Win7. I wonder why Outlook would not install directly. Can't you install "old" applications in a kind of "XP mode" in Win7?
Is there a way to get my CRM contacts to be available on my HTC HD2. Pretty annoying to not have any my contacts when I need to send/forward emails etc. from outlook on my cell.
We probably need more information here...
I'm guessing you're looking for move your contacts from your CRM software on your PC to outlook on your Phone, correct?
Which CRM software are you using? What OS are you using on your computer?
How are you connecting to your PC (WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, etc)?
OS: Windows XP Pro
Phone: HTC HD2 (Leo) with win 6.5 and Spb Mobile Shell
You are correct. At work we have Outlook installed with CRM integrated. It says Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 for Microsoft Office Outlook. All my important contacts are stored in CRM with mailinglists etc.
I am connected to te PC via both WiFi and regular mobile net (guess 3G..?) and the phone sync with ActiveSync.
Is there any way to make the phone be able to use CRM contacts when Im out travelling and need to send a few mails etc?
Is it absolutely no possible way to import CRM contacts and list from Outlook to Outlook on my HD2? Seems so strange MS haven't made this easier...
Hi all,
I develop an application for windows phone 7, and i want to send some text via email, but i am using the windows phone 7 emulator, i dont have a real device
someone have a clue how i can accomplish that?
After resetting my Samsung i917, it will not sign into my windows live, preventing me from setting up mail, calendar, zune, basically anything associated with Microsoft! As far as I was aware, it was connected before resetting, but it was not used on a daily basis so cannot be 100% sure it was still syncing. I just want to use it as a wireless music hub in the house with Zune, but need to sign in - anybody else had this issue?
The only 'fix' I found was related to windows 8, and involved disabling automatically updating date/time, but this did not help. Would be a shame to have to throw it in the bin just because Microsoft wont let me sign in - surely people are still allowed to use these Windows 7.5 phones?
Thanks in advance!
Windows Live ID does not work for WP 7.5-7.8 and for Zune transport on PC for a long time already. If you want to sync your contacts, mail, calendar - set up hotmail or outlook mail as "add an account" in "settings/email+accounts" of your phone. Thus you will get your contacts back and will continue using your phone. But you should forget about Zune, Marketplace and Windows Live ID. Thanks Microsoft for this awesome attitude to the customers.
P.S. And for sure you can sync your Zune PC client with your phone via usb cable (but not via Windows Live ID)

Thanks for confirming what I feared... regarding your P.S - does this make it impossible to wireless sync Zune music content over home WiFi when the phone is on charge like I used to?
Normally this should work. Here is how-to I did not check it because I don't use my WP7.8 HTC Titan for a long time - just switch it on and off from time to time to be sure that I am still able to cook a rom for it Also I have Zune and WMDC installed only on my old laptop (which is also used just to have fun with WEH 6.5.3 and WP7 devices). So you may try it...
Note:
Since November 15, 2015, the Zune service has been discontinued. This may cause errors when attempting to stream or download content or update the service.
