I think we all know (the one's who tried) how terribly hard it is to compile AOSP for the i9001, Also I'm not going to spend days and days of finding stuff out, So I decided to make this shell script that automates the "laming" method that I used earlier, it's actually profiting on the remains of the cyanogenmod compiling, only the apps can be compiled, but I will add SystemUI and android.policy.jar in a later version. Anyways, the script is not intended to compile a whole rom, it's only made for compiling the apps. and It will never compile more then the apps. Since the script is still beta it could include some bugs.
As most of you know the results are light, stable and smooth (at least at 4.0.4). I hope this encourages people to make their own build.

It's for all devices, the only limitation is that CM needs to run stable on that device.
And it's for linux only, there is no way you can compile the whole android system (about 50gb after a build including sources) with windows. Of course it could be possible, but linux is the way to go with things like these, imo mainly because windows (NTFS) sucks balls with projects with 50,000 files, EXT3/4 is waaaaaaaaaaay faster ^^
Oh and btw, the screenshot you see, that's linux mint with Windows borders, it's awesome

I think i've spent enough time on trying to get aosp fully working, I think it's a lost cause, since nobody else cares about aosp it seems, and I'm not going to invest 50% of my free time in getting something to work when I can get my new S4 (still more then 6 months, don't worry people :good

I was really looking forward a new build 100% AOSP as you said you were near to, only a segmentation fault in Dalvik if I remember well.
Why are you giving up such a hopefully experiment? :<

I was looking forward to it also, but I've spent so many FULL WEEKENDS on compiling, without sleep. just to get it to boot.. you can't imagine how much time I've spent on it, and no one actually wants to help compiling it.. I have got very much feedback and I really have to thank all the users for that. But at my own i just cannot manage this, period, I like to develop but the aosp repo really is the hardest thing I ever worked on, and gained nearly zero results. (luckily I still got the apps thankfully). AOSP is way trickier then CM, since CM's goal is to get as many supported devices as possible, but for aosp, it's just the nexus series and some other useless device (for i9001 at least), and Google won't do anything to make it easier for me to handle with the repo. I've learned a lot the past year, but remember I'm only 1 year into Android AND Unix now, that's nothing.. If i would have a dedicated team that helped my with everything it would have been a different story, but unfortunately that's not the case.
(same thing counts for Firefox OS, B2G that I tried to port, If no other people are interested in helping the development, it's over, it's to overcomplicated for me to be honest)
And if I actually knew the whole android system I would have known how to solve all the errors, but that's by far not the case.
So acutally i'm trying to say that I cannot manage AOSP by myself at all.If people want aosp so bad they will have to struggle just like me.

It's fair enough from you to tell us the truth. I and probably all of us are very thankfull with your current work.
Conclusion is that current AOSP 4.0.4 is working very good (I am using it over a month), just some small bugs needs to be adressed...
It don't have to be pure AOSP , it's close to it and working better than CM, just like real AOSP

A problem is that we dont have enough skilled people to form a team. Sure, we got ivendor, arco and you. Maybe more but everybody seems to spend less.time in our phone and more in their personal lives (that is not a bad thing offcourse). There used to be a time that our phone had a great progress speed. Lots of roms, lots of kernels.
But our phone is dying. We keep losing great devs and i think we must accept that and go on with what we have.

It's normal thing. Everyone care about personal life, more than one non-important device
Currently there are exams that needs to be adressed first. Me too have exams this january. But it's not true that our phone is dying. We have what we need, when we get fully working 3.0.57 this will give us stable 4.2.1
That tells us that we are keep going

Haha thanks . Sure, I could try to get it to build, just don't be upset if it doesn't boot all the way like the current state of this rom
I'm going to need someone to test it though since I don't have that device. I have a HTC Hero CDMA for Sprint, but the charging port is no good, and since I'm not a soldering-boss I would need a whole new motherboard (http://goo.gl/LcOJM). Not to mention that I don't know if they're even somewhat compatible with each other.

sorry i only port, never from source
I have actually been wanting to port B2G to the g1 for a while now (I've been building the source for the emulator since it was very early on at andreasgal's github).
I'm building it now and will try to see why it's not booting, if I have a little extra free time, after I finish my next LMCFroyo release.
There's really no reason to try polishing anything before now and the actual release; there will probably be many large changes over the course of the year. However, there's no reason to not toy around with this right now in order to see what changes will need to be made in the gecko/gaia source.

*Bugs*So*Far
When entering landscape and exiting landscape on the LG launcher it force closes for some reason.
Some LG generic icons show till a reboot happens ( first boot only )
LG Music widget isn't working ( looking for an easy fix or removal ).
*Tweaks*
There are some tweaks too like long hold of power while screen is off activates torch.
Pressing the camera button while screen is off and music is playing will pause/play current track.
The rom looks like cm9 other than launcher so I dunno if you would consider it a port lol...

I just want to be sure before I get to deep with it. And like I said I don't have much info other than what's here was pulled from an LG ICS leaked system dump. It was done for the evo shift and I talk to the dev all the time so I'm going to see if I can help him iron out his issues along the way of this one because I also support that phone with a different ROM/kernel. I don't want to get ahead of myself, I'm busy till Sunday but wanted feed back on the idea. In the mean time I'm going to run what I have just to get a feel for it and the bugs it has. Once I get a chance to look at the dump ill be able to see if there are little pieces left out that could/would be causing the force close issues with a couple things. Or they could just be broke that's why its a leak anyways I'm off to bed for a change

Best bet would be to post in development section regarding this. I don't think much of the flash junkies ever visit the general sub forum unless they have some problems with their device! lol!
Anyways a Work in Progress is already considered as development right? So I don't think that would make it offtopic.

Funny how so many of us abhor Sense but will jump on a Touchwiz or Motoblur or LG skin. Change of pace is nice I guess. I actually got half excited by a Sense ROM for my kids OG Droid (play phone for games and youtube) then I realized what I was thinking...

Sense is heavy and bloated. I really hate that about it. What really draws me to this is that its based on Cyanogenmod. CM has really nice tweaks and features, some I've come to feel I can't live without nowadays. I don't think there's a device I could get and not use CM on it. This would be a really nice change from stock CM for me

Would be nice to try it out! Can't hurt to have an addition to the ROM choice here right!?
Thanks Strapped. Family comes first.
::Respect::
I'd love to take a look at that one myself Strapped. Looks a bit different. Seems to have some visual enhancement to it too but I can't quite put my finger on just what.....maybe something about the app drawer icon shading. And to be honest with you I've always been a bigger fan of CM9 derivatives than the original. No offense to the CyanogenMod team tho..........
Love to see YOU get your hands on this one! :good:
Yeah I def need to figure something out. Its a port from a system dump, to the evo shifts cm9 rom, then ported from that device to ours. Its running the LG launcher and also the motoblur ics launcher. Of course the LG widgets won't run on the MoTo launcher but there are no MoTo widgets. Hopefully I can find parts around the net for both lauchers to be complete(high hopes). I will say its a def change from the standard cm ROM. Last battery only got about 10 hours with 3 hours screen on but I'm thinking all the youtube videos my daughter watched today played a big role in that, so after a full day of running no new bugs have popped up. And since this is gonna get atleast some usage I can have the mod lock/delete this soon and just start a dev thread for the ROM once I get it up
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
That already sounds VERY promising! I'd be happy to apply as an "Orkin Man" on the project for you if you need anyone. It looks to be a VERY different ROM from what any of us are used to seeing!

Man everywhere I turn its like I can't make a decision on what to touch. I have the aokp the paranoid-android,MikTouch and MikXE for this device then Supreme Sense and an aokp for the speedy, along with trying to get my speedy source updated on git so I can post there tweaked kernel with no low level battery cap. I've had it done for about a month but then the slave got wiped so I have to reproduce a source without compiling again since some major changes happened and now my commands won't turn the zImage into a boot-new.img correctly

MAN! That's awful. I sure do hope it's not a mechanical issue with your slave drive otherwise there may be other issues looming on the horizon.
It sounds to me like you're juggling chainsaws right now.....even more than I realized. I don't know how you keep it all straight in your head! When I take on more than one project at a time it reaaally messes with me.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate yours and the other developers time & efforts that call the DS "home". And I also understand that even though you have a perfectionist living inside you, this is a very nice ROM even with the few issues that are haunting you. I guess I've just gotten used to using a few very easy workarounds to the point I hardly notice them anymore. When you decide to, this is going to be one that people like myself appreciate more than some others will. Being that, there really is a minority group of us that just likes the derivative ROMs generated from the CyanogenMod code really better than the "original" in most cases. Even though it's mostly just a launcher change in your mind....this is definately one of the ROMs. :good:

Besides, over the past couple of months we've had several programmers with varying degrees of abilities move in here with us that I can forsee them wanting to see if they can figure out those very few issues that you really just don't have the time to right now. That is, if you don't mind. We DO have a very healthy community attitude here for the DS ya know.
I wish I knew something to tell you about your slave drive issue though. Would physically setting it to "drive select" instead of "slave" with the jumpers have any affect on it?
I knew this summer was going to be a hit for the Doubleshot, but it seems all dev action has ceased since then.
Anyone know what's been going on with our device lately?
Just a BS thread to discuss our device. Devs feel free to chime in.
Or if you're secretly working on something and would like to tease us by letting us know what's coming, by all means...

Well it still has some issues. The major one is not going to deepsleep. Then the force close from portrait to landscape and back again. I'm racking my brain trying to figure it out though because I've gotten way more Widgets from LG added

I still don't have a development box to start developing so that first before the WIP since I would need to pull the whole CM build and compile it just to make this recovery. I don't think my good old vps is enough to do this kind of job and I'm not also considering to reformat my windows PC just for this.
I think it has been a pretty good summer for development on our MT4GS. We've got a nice crop of ICS roms to choose from, either AOSP or CM or several Sense flavors. It's a smorgasbord! :highfive:

Well Sun_Dream has worked on our phone with a bit of Sense roms if you dig that.
"HTC Doublshot ICS Bliss" sporting Sense 3.6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896643
and
"Doubleshot Android 4.0.4 Sense4.1+4A Base Ville_U_ICS_40_S_2.31.401.5": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832805
Both seem solid, didn't quite test them out as I'm digging XMC's Jellybean.
Should be a lot of development when Sense 4.5 comes out though I sense ports coming.

Still won't be that helpful to me since we got a crappy internet in our country. Pulling a whole CM build would take me like almost a day of non stop downloading to do that
Unlike on a vps I could just pull both cm7 & cm9 in 30minutes

Ok so where I'm at now. I have figured out I didn't need to use anything from the EVO Shift to get this LG launcher up and running. So its not a port anymore ( so it lost andromaus settings which were cool but caused wakelocks ), its more so a launcher replacement, all other cm9 functions work like they should. So right now I'm trying to figure out how to post it, and here are my posting options I can either
1. Just package all the launcher and widgets as a flash over for any CLEAN INSTALL OF AOSP/AOKP ( will need testers for AOKP ). And a certain set of gapps so the gallery don't get broken
Or
2. I can just pre package everything into a CM build ( gapps and all ) so nothing gets broken. Its your call here is a couple screen shots. And if anyone wants to give it a try just pm me ill get you a dropbox link

You are not the first to ask, so please stop asking this question - or do it yourself.
It will come if/when it comes. And I highly doubt that somebody without an A2 will port it for us - but feel free to request that of them.
Btw, I have put some time into porting PA, then I dropped it for a while - since our phone does not play nicely with ports - but I plan on returning to it again.
If someone seriously wants to work on this, PM me.

No, what he was saying is that porting roms without a compile, to our phone just does not seem to end well for any of the devs.
We have had way more success with compiling ROMs from scratch since ICS has showed up for us.
In GB I had compiled several ROMs and had a ton of issues getting them to work well. I then gave up for a while. I had cm7 working for a while with kexec, but that got to be a real pia.
I waited until ICS came out to try again, and I am 98% done with my CM10 compiled version, which I have been working on for almost 2 months now, so..... Long story short compiles are good on the A2, ports are not so good.
BTW a port means to take a working version from another phone with very close hardware to another and "port" it to work on the other phone. We have used the razr and bionic as starting points since they are very close relatives, but we have still had issues. It can also mean to take the code for something like aosp/aokp/cm, and get all the files together that are needed to make the rom work for a phone and start editing code, and then compile it, similar to what wang and I have done with cm10.
I will let alteredlikeness tell you what his thoughts were on his speciic PA port, but this is just a general thing with us.

Yea, what jim said..
And I just really wanted to get PA on my phone - but I need a bigger linux partition on my computer to compile from source - so I decided to just try to port it (tried from 2 diff phones actaully), and I couldn't get past the boot animation or adb recognized after about a million different approaches.
I will still pursue this, but I agree with jim- gotta compile not port

We got a lot of issues to work out, but cogeary and I are doing all we can to bring this to the A2.
One of the major issues is that my phone thinks it's a tablet... that screenshot was originally 768x1366.. and I can only see a small 540x960 window of that over-sized UI (need to turn on 360 rotation and flip the phone to see other areas of the screen)... besides that, there's no wifi, soft keys, or phone call audio - so, it's not usable yet.
This is not an invitation to PM about timelines or progress - so please don't. This is just to let everyone know that cogeary and I are working on this (and an excuse as to why I'm not updating Numa). Thanks to cogeary for answering my call to take on this beast..
If anyone's curious, the idea of porting it is dead - I deleted my Wubi install and installed Ubuntu as a guest in VirtualBox on Win7 for a quick way to get a larger partition - compiling it fresh from source..

Big progress in the last couple days for a usable alpha build - fixed the oversized issue, soft keys, touch sensors, and phone call audio (a sloppy fix IMO, but.. eh, it works - but, as I said earlier, my main intention was just to get this working on my phone)
Still no wifi, and got the common moto cm10 bugs, like the stuttering boot, rotation shrinkage & shrunken screenshot, data is a kinda buggy (works, but two bars), probably other bugs... still not a daily by any means.
And, the Paranoid settings can be a bit tricky.. not sure yet if it's buggy, or it's just me. I will probably be sending out a few test samples to some senior members soon.. watch your inboxes! (and don't call me, I'll call you... well, a few of you can if I forget - but you know who you are)
Big thanks again to cogeary and jimbridgman for their support (and some good old dumb luck/strategy) - now I can get a little more sleep at night.. :silly:

Development has begun! Find the new thread here!
Hey P9 users,
I see that you guys don't have much development going for you guys. How would y'all like it if I cooked up a kernel? Things I will need:
Patience because I don't have the device:
I will not add anything that could possibly brick your phone. All of my kernels are not like most that you see out there in the forums. It's more of an optimized kernel rather than a custom kernel.
Testers (follows suite with not actually having the device):
Self explanatory from above. There shouldn't be any problems, but if one does arise, I will need logs.
Hype and honesty:
Just kidding about the hype part, but the second part is what is really important. If you feel no difference after flashing the kernel, then let me know! I'd much rather you guys tell me it sucks instead of riding a bandwagon.
i would be pleased to test a optimized kernel!

Alrighty, got something fresh out the oven. Doesn't have much changed, except for the fact that it's compiled with Linaro 4.9 and has a lot of compiler optimizations. If this boots and runs fine, I will create a development thread.
abyss-caf-huawei-p9-nightly-20160822.img
GitHub Source
If it does not boot, flash the stock kernel image or @paulobrien's updated kernel
Installation is the same as any other kernel:
paulobrien said:
You now have a new boot image (abyss-caf-huawei-p9-nightly-20160822.img). All that's left is to flash it to your device! Reboot to bootloader (either using 'adb reboot bootloader' or by powering on with volume down held).
Flash using 'fastboot flash boot abyss-caf-huawei-p9-nightly-20160822.img'
Then reboot using 'fastboot reboot'. Job done! In the About screen of settings you should see the date of the abyss-caf kernel and details of your my build machine.

Have to agree. It took a lot longer for me to set up this kernel for building. Very interesting, but I've got it under my control
I just need to know if this boots. If it does, I will start to overhaul it with more advanced changes
Care to tease us with some of your more Advanced stuff?
the problem is, what works with biglittle and what not. some snapdragon optimizing is not same as kirin. Im still in contact with zz for zzmove.
Maybe its easy to test and give u logcat?
Ty for taking your time, i really hope more developers will come. Im waiting on Cyanogenmod and a good kernel i hope yours will turn out great.
I miss having my HTC One X with root but for now i live with a stock huawei experience with Nova launcher and theme and i disabled many things with debloater.
I wish more developers would get their hands on it since the phone is cheap, i bought it for 2300kr = 275 dollars here in Denmark, and for 275 dollars you get a lot.

Depends what people are looking for . I am limited and slowed because I don't own the device, but it is possible to add hotplugs and governors easily. Features like KCAL control, double tap to wake, etc. can eventually be implemented with the help of you guys and logs.

Whether it is Kirin or Qualcomm really does not affect the what can go into the kernel as much as it would affect ROM optimizing. Certain CAF kernel patches that are supposedly specific for Snapdragon devices can also be implemented into kernels for other devices as well. The Snapdragon 652 is the closest non-kirin relative to Kirin 955, so porting patches from a 652 kernel would be best.

It is a hard device to get in North America. I think the Honor 8 is the first one to break grounds over here in the states (Canada is even more limited than the US so not even sure if I can find one here).

I think that is the easy part. Since the q&a part is the skipped part among other parts, it would be easier to find once you post in the development section
If I wouldn't buy the phone TODAY (yes I bought it today ) I would be gladly test it out but it is like a principle for me that I use the phone as it is for a couple of months.

My current principle is to make sure things are stable before I post in development, so I will wait until I have confirmation that this boots first :fingers-crossed:

It's my first phone with 2.5 D display and it is blazing fast right now However I am addicted to flashing things and I am afraid I will touch my phone's virginity with this old addiction I will hold on to that principle as long as I can
However, it breaks my heart when I have a look to development section since ,as I told before, my rom addiction. I believe it can be (I mean your kernel) a little push for other developers to cook some roms
And for the last, It would be beyond perfect if you could port stockish android like CM or other roms

I will definitely need the device in order to build any AOSP roms, it's a nightmare without it. Also, I am a Linux developer (C based), and have limited knowledge in device tree bring up.

Alrighty, got something fresh out the oven. Doesn't have much changed, except for the fact that it's compiled with Linaro 4.9 and has a lot of compiler optimizations. If this boots and runs fine, I will create a development thread.

If it does not boot, flash the stock kernel image or @paulobrien's updated kernel
Installation is the same as any other kernel:
