Hi Everyone,
I have been a long time reader of these forums and even though I have not posted, I have loaded many ROM's on my old Samsung Droid Charge. I have been looking through the ROM's and there are a lot for this phone. I am already rooted and running twrp recovery, so I'm looking for a ROM to load.
My problem is that all of them seem to have the hacked hotspot. Since I already have access to the hotspot because of my plan, I was wondering if there is a way to restore the stock tether/wifi hotspot functionality to any ROM I load. Is there a single .apk or possibly multiple .apk's that I can load from recovery?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Its the same as the stock this one just bypasses verizons check. I used to pay for the hotspot too and use the hacked free ones with custom ROMs. Same thing. I haven't played for it for about 4 months and I use it regularly with my nexus 7. Never been bothered by verizon about it

You should never pay for tethering a phone that it's capable of doing it out of the box. Verizon no longer blocks tethering apps either because the government jumped on their ass

i realize there are a lot of apps available to download for rooted devices, and tricks to disabling tethering manager.
my question is concerning the actual data feature that i have on my plan.
i still have the original "unlimited data" package from when i had my iphone 3g. the package is no longer available now, but it's grandfathered in for customers who wish to keep it while upgrading.
for those of us who still have this feature and wish to use mobile ap, do we still have to trick the phone/att by disabling tethering manager, or installing another third party app w/ root?
my device is rooted, but if i can just use the phone's native hotspot tethering without doing all this, it would be nice..
freezing tethering manager should do it.
i have both options and i alternate between them but most of the time i use wireless tether just to be on the safe side.
I'm still on unlimited data plan (thank god! Last month was 12GB) and I couldn't get tethering to work without plan till I flashed Infused ROM. I didn't think about freezing TetheringManager but that probably would work.
Does Infused rom automatically disable the tethering manager? I was able to turn on mobile ap but was afraid to use it. I couldn't remember if it wouldn't work at all with stock rom. I'm not sure if the tethering manager is related to using the mobile hotspot anyway.

Don't be afraid. We're here for ya!
I'm on infused also. I asked a similar question in his thread and was told that his rom does not include tetheringmanager.. So we should be able to activate mobile ap without any problems.

I am on my infuse and just tried wireless ap and its telling me i neew tethering on my plan...but i have unlimited data...i have the phone rooted what is the best way to disable that so i can use wireless ap?
I was able to do it with my samsung cap...do i need to install custom rom on my infuse

I am interested in this as well. Looking to upgrade from my captivate and then get my wife using the captivate and off her WM6 phone.
I would hate to lose tethering even though I rarely need to use it.
i used system app uninstaller from the market found tethering manager and chose to disable it i have since then been able to use the built in hotspot feature on all my roms even stock you jus need root plus system app remover other app will freeze tethermanger also but i found system app remover to be the most user freindly for me i have been using it since my captivate days and have used it on my ispire and now my infuse
Its been repeated many times in many different threads. If you're rooted, you should definitely buy Titanium Backup so you can freeze any system apps you want (ie tethering manager).
If you delete them, you may want them back later, and you'll be on here asking for them. Trust me.

Hello,
I have a rooted verizon S3 i535. I'm one of the lucky to be on the unlimited grandfathered plan. Anyways, I've been using wifi root tether for months and all of a sudden it just stopped working (yes I do have updates disabled, still on 4.0), well technically the wifi portion of the tether broke, it still starts but just no longer broadcasts the SSID. I also downloaded the SVTP wifi hotspot app (non-root) and that worked for a few days, it still starts up but I the wifi broadcast is now messed up on that device (can't connect with anything to the broadcasted network).
So anyways, I really need to get tether working again, I figure something is ****ed up likely with my S3, and I don't have too much time to **** with this, so I figured I'd just ROM it and start over. (Unless someone has some better advice?)
The only thing I really care about is wifi tether. What is a good ROM that you would recommend for me to use to get this back?

Delete.
It not hardware otherwise your wifi wouldn;t work at all. Verizon keeps closing paths to free tethering. You might want to go modern and install one of the great developer ROMs here that has built in tethering. Synergy, hyperdrive, MORA, etc, others, have working tethering and many other additional features.

Yeah that's what I want to do, which ROM would you recommend? I've never installed a custom ROM and don't care about features above and beyond stock android, jsut tetheting. That's the really important one for me.
Hi,
I got a silly problem with my Skyrocket. i am using it in India currently and my Data package allows me to Tether. but since the Skyrocket goes through AT&T it wont let me tether. I was wondering if there is a work around for this or if there is any good tethering app that doesnt need Root or any software installed on the PC.
Thank you

Hello!
Please describe the state of your device in detail. Rom, Radio, any mods etc. Put it in your signature if you don't want to type it every time you post.
Once that is done, always search first. "insert question keyword here"+xda @ google or use XDA's own search. Use keywords in your search. This question is not new and has been answered multiple times before.
Depending on what rom you're on these might be of use:

I haven't tested any of the above solutions and I know nothing about them, I just used search. Reply in those threads if you want more info.
Personally I avoid AT&T roms like the plague. Because of the limitations (like the one you're encountering) and because of the bloatware/adware that come with AT&T roms. I recommend EMBRYO or Rogers roms if you want a TouchWiz/stock-based environment.
I have SGS3 - SCH-I535.
I have already made a mistake of flashinga Wrong ROM and Hard Bricking it. Sending it to Repair - JTAG and now, I got the Stock ROM 4.0.4 on my SGS3 after 10 Hours. Just because of a small File,
So basically, I do not want to make my life hell once again.
I want someone to suggest me some good ROM. But I have simple requirements.
1. Simple, Clean, no Bloatware, or Extra crap, from Verizon or Samsung.
2. FAST FAST FAST FAAAAAAAST
3. IN BUILT WIFI TETHERING APP, - I have Unl.Data Plan. So I want to use it, for tethering on my ipad.
4. Please suggest me a Link or a Thread or a Site.
P.S: My Phone is just like, out of hte box when it was first released with Verizon around 2 Years back. No Rooting, No updates or Nothing.
SINCE I ALREAD F'ed up once, I don't want to take the same risk once again. So, kindly need the guidance of the experts, who have been using LATEST GREATEST SUPER FAST ROMS.
I will be using my Verizon Unlimited Data Plan SIM card and my Straight Talk 1 Year T-Mobile SIM Card in this Phone.
With Straight Talk, I will get only 2G speeds. But, thats OK. I will move my Verizon Unl. SIM to my Jetpack, and I get 4G LTE Speeds via Wifi.
Si kindly help me guys. Thank You for Your interest.

We don't do suggestions as some of the immature members of the community will turn it to a debate. I will also add that not all people have the same experience with each ROM.
ok, i just tried the most roms out there for my 3 smartphones (live with walkman, Xperia S and SGS3 LTE I9305 ) and i found this
CM roms is the most clear an good enough to make u live happy and im using it on the live with walkman but; personally i liked the stock in the SGS3 and Xperia because of the camera app .. the stock rom have best camera app and make the camera work better even if u install any app it will have the same bad pics in the CM..
anyways ... thanks for @cyanogen team for there hard work
press THANKS if i helped

Ok, this is my first post on here in years. Forgive me if I am not in the right section or if this question has been answered countless times. Anyways, I have had an Galaxy s3 Boost for years now. When I first got the phone, I rooted and put a custom rom on the phone. I believe it was "Wicked X". Not sure the exact build model numbers for the phones or rom. Will insert later if needed.
Well with Wicked X, I was able to acheive unlimited Hotspot access with no cap. Normally on the plan I am on, the hotspot caps at 8 gigs. I was using 30+ with this rom build.
My question is, I am switching to the S5 now and would like to know a way to achieve the same on this phone as I did with the s3. Maybe this has already been answered and if so can someone please redirect me.
I have no problem achieving root access on this phone but I would like to know of a rom that gives me Unlimited hotspot cap like Wicked X did for me with the S3.
Thanks ahead.
you may want to look at the ROM you used and the apk that sounds like was baked into it. It might have just been using one of the many hotspot apps that dont tell the network that youre utilizing hotspot. Chainfire had one out there before he retired that will likely suit your needs. I use resurrection remix and it has hotspot baked in that doesnt tell my carrier that im using my data for that.
Thanks man. I'll check it out.
