Can anyone else also on JB Leaks look up their system folder size and tell me it's specs?
That is way too high. If you're rooted, check what all is in the folder, there should be any files bigger than 1-2mb in xbin.

This is probably busy box folder..
even my xbin foldeR has ~584mb and system has 38mb free space.. but that could be because of the xperia v launcher i had to install for the walkman player and also the xperia z launcher i flashed and few other things.. but still no message for low space..

Your busybox install is screwed up.... what happened is instead of linking the busybox exec. to all the proper tools, it copied busybox a hundred times and renamed itself each time, which is not correct, it should ONLY link, not "duplicate" itself, that is why you have a full system partition.
I noticed this when you gave me your JB dump. I would do an fxz back to a clean ICS and then flash JB again, not installing busybox with the root script and instead get JRummy's busybox installer from the market, it will properly install and link all the execs.

So If I flash old stock ICS and then again flash JB but use YOUR Root script which excludes the Busybox and root with it, and then manually install that from Rom Tool Box Pro?? then it should be al right right?

Why ROM toolbox pro? ROM toolbox is not a good idea on this phone. Just grab JRummys busybox installer, there really is no good reason for his ROM Toolbox on this phone, it only screws things up, that has been documented many times in here.

NO!!! You cannot uninstall busybox, that is why I mentioned using the fxz to get to a clean install, and avoid installing busybox with the other root script I uploaded.
Then install ONLY the busybox installer from JRummy. I really am giving you a real stern heads up on rom toolbox here, people have bootlooped and some have been unable to fxz back to a working state after using ROM toolbox.

Thank you for your reply.
But then How will I reroot my phone without using root script which also installs that busybox?
I believe you modified that root script so that it will not istall the busybox right??
I do not use Rom ToolBox, Just for CPU control or root browser. I will remove it.
I totally agree with Jim here, ROM toolbox is not suitable for our phone. The only thing that ever worked without any issues was bootanimations.. i myself have bootlooped twice while using it..

Yes you will use the root script that I posted that will NOT install busybox. For root browser go get root explorer, really is the best, and CPU control the best one really is by far setCPU, and then the other really great app for CPU and tweaking is System Tuner, but it really is for more advanced users:

Whichever one will actually do a wipe, if I remember right the second JB leak, did not wipe the device, and left all your apps and such.... that is not what you want, you really need one that will clear the whole device.
I would stick to the ICS fxz, since we know for sure that it WILL wipe the device clean, then do the JB update then the root process, and then update to the latest leak, then reinstall all your apps and everything else.

Still just have 9 mbs free..

I am curious to know why you still have just 9 mb free after doing all the above multiple steps as advised by Jim.
I too have Rom Toolbox Pro (JRummy which I use only for tools & not for tweaking or mods). What I however did was I installed BB by Stericson (is more popular I u/s - free version) & used auto install which installed to system/bin, then later for trying out init.d support & CWMR on every boot as per "41rw4lk" thread it was mentioned that run parts should be installed to xbin & which I saw was not the case after querying in emulator. Like a foolhardy guy, I clicked uninstall (I do have a CWM android backup for RSD 6 flash) tab which is available in the BB app which did gave me a 'WHOA' alert but I went ahead (had not read Jim's post before) it then gave me a message it did not uninstall & uninstall is available for Pro version only. So I rebooted & no issues. Then I installed Pro ver while retaining the free ver & clicked install tab & it gave me a prompt saying BB is already installed etc etc. I then uninstalled the free ver & to my surprise the location of install changed itself to xbin by itself. Now I am pretty much sure my BB install is botchy but have no issues though and will later follow the flash reflash restore apps (it's damn tedious thing) but I am puzzled how the uninstall function is provided when Jim did say BB cannot be uninstalled.
My system folder is 445.83 mb used & 31.63 mb free & I quote again for ready reference for everybody, Jim's quote
"I just have to point this out to EVERYONE. This is one reason you do NOT EVER remove busybox. It was not the fact the the hijack was removed, but because busybox links itself to MANY critical "linux" functions, and it does not re-link those back to the motobox (minimal busybox like binary), or rename old bin files if they were there before, so there are things like mount and other functions that do not work properly.
I am not chastizing the OP here, just making a point to everyone about busybox, as this has been mentioned very little in the forums, so I thought this is a good place to point this out and the hazards with removing busybox, it will bootloop you nearly everytime.
It is better to just fxz back to full stock before/instead of removing busybox. Although I am still really not sure why anyone would want to remove busybox at all, it gives you a ton of linux utilities all in one binary and creates links to things like mount, etc."
I also strongly suggest users installing BB for the first time make sure to install to path xbin rather than bin.
Thanks for your detailed info! I will never remove busybox from my edison device
Also I am on stock Indian ROM. But I'd zero free space in system partition. But I managed to increase free space by backing up some system applications and then I deleting those APKs from the /system/app directory. Now I have close to 15 MB free space. Almost all root applications which failed to do anything when there was 0 free space, started working well

Notes:
IMPORTANT: Although all of my scripts check for and handle appropriatly a2sd and other apps2sd utilities it is highly recomended that you move your apps back to the /data/app folder and remove or disable any a2sd utilities prior to flashing this ROM, once flashed you can reset all of your a2sd settings accordingly. It is also recomend that you leave your cache and dalvik cache alone as moving these can cause backup and restore to fail if there is insuffiecient space.
Enjoy, this is fast stable and very clean, I have even included some of my favorite backgrounds which can be found under "Menu - More - Wallpaper". And as always I am the only DEV (To my knowledge) that includes an antivirus app in my ROM and handles backups and restores of all user level apps (/data/app and /data/app-private) during the flash sequence. No matter what style or flavor of rom you currently have there is no need to wipe, my updater-script handles everything for you. I do still recomend a full nand backup first just for safety sake.
Thanks:
evanbigfan - for pointing out a flaw in my scripts
J074 - for all the testing (and the humor) LOL
existz - for the kernel
google - for android
cyanogenmod - for the stable base
and all of the devs that provided help with the backup and restore issues.

Nice. Really good rom. Thanks.
Thanks for your work...I tried it, but had to nand back. I followed instructions & everything went great until I tried to use Titantium Backup to add back a few apps it failed to install ...then it started restarting.
The apps were fancy Widgets & pro Widgets.
Gonna reflash when I stop for the night.
Thanks for all you do though....I'm still a rookie this.

without restoring the apps from titanium backup did all your other apps work as expected? when you are restoring your apps from TB are you choosing data as well? if your previous ROM was a sense rom this could be the cause of the problem. try restoring without data and then setup the apps again from scratch. let me know if that helps.
Looking good.

Previous rom was Ninja (aosp) .
It auto installed all but 6 previously installed apps...I tried twice today.
I think my problem lies with a auto update of superuser. It auto updated twice...I skipped all setup accounts until dead last in case something was triggering it...no dice, it still did it. Tried clearing data on superuser, but it was greyed-out because there wasn't any data as of yet.
Also, I always restore apps...never data.
I dunno what I'm doing wrong...never had an issue like this.
Maybe superuser updating?
Edit: forgot to mention that on the second time round....I also tried to use the market to re-install my missing apps...and the same thing happened (phone restarts)
I'm gonna try it again and reinstall nothing & I'll report back

AHA!! A brand-new ROM - lots of questions!!
As a confirmed "flash-junkie" on my older Aria, I now have a 2-month old Inspire, and have already tried SO MANY ROMS I have lost count I really need to stop having it "out of commission" all the time because I'm trying something new!!! So -- I am looking for a Gingerbread ROM - definitely "no-sense" or very minimal Sense! (I use 3rd party apps for almost everything that Sense does and it takes so much space and time to load and run it all, or to delete so much every time I update a Sense ROM...
I have tons!!! of apps, and have been using CM7 nightlies - hoping for just the "right one" but I have not been completely satisfied for one reason or another... (Wi-Fi, GPS, ADW launcher so slow, lack of A2sd/EXT4 support, etc...)
What I want: I want to keep my most-used apps "internal" to load faster, and most of my "other" stuff, such as games, "testing" apps, reference library apps, etc. on a separate partition. I would prefer S2E/Link2SD type EXT-4 for the speed and "wipability..." I have used the S2E app, but don't like to move everything, I have tried Link2SD without much success, so I have been pretty much using standard A2SD, which is a pain...
So... what options does your ROM have for something like that? And... what setup do you recommend prior to flashing?? (i.e. pre-set EXT4 secondary partition?)
And... Is data/GPS/Wi-Fi etc. pretty stable without all the "fixes" to apply each update? I'm getting tired of editing build.prop, gps.conf, kernel flashing, etc. on this phone - I'd like to leave all that to my old phone and have my Inspire nice and set for pretty much my daily user -- if an OCD flash junkie can actually do that, anyhow - he he he
OK - I realize this was a very long post, but if you don't think your new ROM is my best choice, I'm open to other ideas from anyone!!!
Thanks!

I'm trying to remember what ver of SU is in the ROM i think it should be 3.0.2 (it was current as of the time i built the rom) I'm not convinced that that could be the issue. I dont use titanium backup as i just start from scratch, i dont much care about data just the apps so i havent tested anything with titanium backup. I'm curious what 6 apps don't install? is it the same 6 everytime? anything special about them? was your previous ROM an EXT3 or EXT4 ROM? are you using any apps2sd utils or have your sdcard partitioned? again thats one i don't use so havent tested for. (sorry if i tested for every possible scenario I'd never get anything done).
I'll try TB tonight and see what happens.

Well I'm probably the worst Flash junkie around I frequently run with broken ROMS just trying to test and build. since I only have one phone that becomes a real pain at times.
so to try to answer your questions. I don't use any apps2sd utils nor do i partion my sdcard nor move any apps to the sdcard and with this rom having on average around 400mb free I havent had much of a need to do so. that being said it does support extended partitions on the sdcard (up to 512mb) you can use any of the third party apps2sd utils just fine as well.
Data/GPS/WiFi including WiFi hotspot and tethering all work flawlessly in my opinion. stability has always been one of my biggest concerns that's why I started building ROMs so I could be the one in control of any stability issues that arose. there should be absolutly no need to edit the build.prop for anything that I'm aware of it is tweaked to provide the best results for the ROM.
Recomendations for prior to flashing. NAND NAND NAND Backups are your friend...
My updater-script is unique in that I am to my knowledge the only one who handles app backups and restores as well as cleanup and wiping through the script so in all reality you can download my ROM make a backup of your current ROM and then Flash mine with no concern of what style of ROM you came from.
I hope that helps answer some of your questions. in regards to whether or not i think this is the right one for you? that is a determination that only you can make. personally this has been my daily driver for nearly a week without issues and im not one for AOSP roms per say..
anyone having this problem?
when i try to install apps i have purchased, i try to install them after i downloaded them but when it trys to install my phone fast reboots, ig u could say lol, is this happening to anyone else.. cause i cant install any apps on my phone
Tried again ....this time I did not try to reinstall any apps via TIB...used market. Data shut off and phone rebooted with ANY app from the market.
It would download BUT then reboot before it finished installing.
Even tried apps at random...lol
Just to be sure it wasn't particular apps.
Tried clearing market data and also reformatted SD card ext4.
Lead me in the right direction if you can ...I'd really like to get this one running. I'm sure you put alot of time in on it & I think its gonna be a good one.

i have yyet to have any issues installing apps from the market yet others have had reboot issues when trying to restore from titanium backup. im not sure why this happens.
what rom did you come from? was it ext3 or ext4? sense or AOSP? and what apps are you trying to install, directly from market or from apk's downloaded to your sdcard? if previously downloaded can you adb them to your data/app folder?
both, and a miui rom the the one previous to the latest

Geek For Me is proud to present:
Fresh Shift 4.1.1
for your Sprint CDMA Evo Shift!
Included V6 SuperCharger in /system/xbin/V6_SuperCharger_u8.sh for those who want to use it.
Thanks to zeppelinrox for this. I am NOT the dev and won’t be supporting any questions with this script as it’s extensive. Please visit the original thread if you have any.
Added Fresh Updater (v1.4.0)
This will allow you to get fresh rom updates and mods straight from fresh updater
Check http://link.geekfor.me/updater for help on using it
Added some helpful text prompts to hopefully alleviate questions from when people don’t read the FAQ.
Removed some deprecated options to clean up the menus
NOTE: While you can still use fresh updater to download any updates/mods and then flash manually, it will only reboot and flash automatically if you’re using TWRP recovery. It will NOT work with clockwordmod to flash automatically.
Downgraded busybox to 1.18.2 to resolve some scripting issues
Updated DarkTremor apps2sd to 2.7.5.2-1
NOTE: DarkTremor apps2sd is not working on the Shift. If you are getting issues with FC’s or your phone rebooting when you install apps then run: adb shell a2sd remove
I’m looking in to this but I’ll most likely be removing it entirely as the dev for DT no longer supports it.
UPDATE: Spoke to the DT dev who wasn’t sure why it would be doing that however said that the project is abandoned and he won’t be looking in to fixing it. So I will be removing apps2sd in future versions. If you are getting the reboot issue when trying to install apps then you MUST remove it: adb shell a2sd remove
Updated Vending/Market to 3.3.12
Updated SuperUser to 3.0.7
Not every mod in this rom is outlined here if it was done in a previous version. Check the full change log here: http://link.geekfor.me/shiftchangelog

Why am I getting FC’s on gmail/market/voice search/whatever?
FC’s can be a common issue when /system/app contains an app that you already have on /data/app. So if you get a FC on gmail, the market, or something similar, then it can generally be fixed 99.99% of the time by either wiping that particular apps data (Settings < Manage Applications < All < YOUR APP < Clear Data), or going in and uninstalling it which will actually force it to use the one /system/app.
Or, of course, can be fixed 100% of the time by doing a full data wipe before installing! I have verified this rom as 100% FC free (at boot at least) so if you have issues, it’s your particular setup.
Why do I get invalid signature when flashing?
This zip is signed the same as I’ve signed every other rom for the last 2.5 years but was getting invalid signature from TWRC 1.1.1. So make sure signature checking is disabled. You can compare the md5 below to make sure your download is good though.
Is this Ice Cream Sandwich? It says it’s version 4.x?
No. This is version 4.x of Fresh Rom. The Android version is always in my change log and unless it’s tagged as a dev rom, will always be the newest official OTA, or possibly a beta tag for a leaked OTA.

I always listen to the community as a whole and if enough people want something then I will generally add it to my rom. So feel free to ask. However if it's something that only a few people want then I request that you do it yourself and submit a mod/theme/patch for the others to use!

Road map for next version:
All changes included in newest version
Thanks flipz for pushing this out. I have been running it since you let the donors have first crack at it. Ran really smooth with stock kernel, but as I like to play and try things I flashed dodgejcr's ext4 conversion and his 1.6 sense kernel . Things is pretty snappy only runnin it at 900mhz,smartass and BFQ.If there are any issues will report them, also is there and Odex version in the works? Thx for giving us shifters another option.

I'd be interested in knowing if you have any issues flashing roms once you do the ext4 conversion? The updater-script mounts it as ext3.
He has a zip that you flash to convert back to ext 3 then I flash any rom the mounts as ext 3 then flash the rom, then back the rom up flash the ext4 zip, restore the nand the flash the ext4 kernel an bam you have fresh shift runnin ext4.
Edit: This may explain it better than I can Fresh

Yeah FDX's method would work but for some reason, even while the filesystem is ext4, CWM and TWRP can still mount it as ext3 for the ROM flash. I havent heard of any problems with it just yet. As a suggestion, it would be awesome to have a sort of 'universal mounting' going on in the updater script to prevent any bugs that MAY occur.
Like I posted in my thread:
Code:
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "mount", "/system");
would use busybox to mount the /system partition regardless of FS type. Hope this helps you. If you need any additional help, let me know. Ill be happy to help in anyway I can.

They are in his/her original post.
@ dodger, flipz and fdx after alot of reading it seems that you can use the call for ext3 to mount both ext3 and 4 without issues.
so all our updater-scripts sound work without issues
Nice to see you around flipz
when i downloaded app it would reboot
holy crap flips made a fresh rom for the shift, i loved your roms for the hero man!

I just downloaded and reflashed. Not having the issue you describe,so maybe it could be a bad flash or a bad download of the rom try re-download and re-flash it. Make sure to wipe everything 3x's .

I just tried installing an app and it rebooted as well. It doesn't reboot until it hits the "installing" part after the download. I tried it with fastboot on and off and still the same thing.
I'll try wiping and re-flashing everything again and see if that makes a difference.

i cant c y u would have to unroot, it shouldnt matter as apps dont care if it is rooted or unrooted, correction some apps u have to b rooted to work properly.
do u actually get an error message when trying to install an app
the only way is to restore back to stock, or if u just rooted ur stock firmware, meaning u didnt flash a rom, u can try flashing the system.img file, that might work but i never heard of any1 doing that
Yes, application refuses to work telling me that "rooted" phones are not supported. So basically it installs, checks if phone is rooted and refuses to proceed. I hoped I can flash something in CMW to temporarely unroot, then run application, let it do it one time thing (I need to run this application only once successfully) and then I root back in CWM again.

dont think there is a temporary unroot method, going back to stock was the true method to unrooting, which app were u trying to install.
u can trying going back to stock, installing app, let it do its thing, backup with tibu or some other backup, reroot and then restore backup of app.....maybe wont work as restoring a backup is actually reinstalling the app
edit: try this i havent so try at ur own risk http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2012/06/how-to-easily-unroot-any-android-phone.html it seems easy enough, i didnt think it was possible but it seems to b

Using root explorer or ES File Explorer, mount system as r/w, delete /system/app/Superuser.apk, /system/bin/su or /system/xbin/su (it will be in one of those two places), and then reboot. done.

thats deleting the app the rooted the phone, but does it actually undo the rooting process, the system files the app changed to make it rooted r still there, the way to check is if u do delete su app, c if root explorer can can mount ur system folder to r/w, or op can c if it the app does install after deleting su.
actually u need su to grant su, so that might not b a good test

The superuser cwm zip installs su and superuser.apk, that's it. There are no other modified apps.
You can remove busy box also if you like, but it's not much use without su.

kool. i learn something everyday
There is cool app in Playstore (free) which allows rooting/unrooting with no reboots and other complicated steps
FYI
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDMsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5zdXBlcnN1Il0
Voodoo OTA can do a temp unroot as well. The Flixter app will not allow you to stream movis on a rooted phone. I used Voodoo to temp unroot then went back into Flixter and it started to play the movie.
I use an app called Temp root remover
It allows you to temporarly unroot and reroot in a matter of seconds
Is there any version of AROMA file manager that works properly on the Explorer? I have discovered that I have some how lost the busybox binary from /system/xbin and now I need to replace it, which I think would probably be easiest by copying from /system/bin with AROMA FM. (If there's a better way, please let me know and I'll do it instead).
(At the moment, my phone won't boot, so it's kinda urgent...)
Isn't easyer to just flash the rom that you already have, with wiping only cache?

No, seeing as that wouldn't fix anything...I'm on stock ROM which does not include busybox, so flashing it would achieve nothing. (To clarify, busybox is required by some script(s) I have installed)
EDIT: Turns out that the latest version of AROMA FM works fine. Booting is certainly getting further now than it did before
then flash something new

No thank you. I have fixed the issue now, without needing to flash a new ROM or anything silly like that (my current setup is exactly what I want, there is no point in me changing it and having to go through the hassle of restoring all my apps, setting up all my accounts again etc.).
All I needed to do was use the latest AROMA FM to copy busybox from /system/bin to /system/xbin. Took all of about 20 seconds once I got a card reader and the latest version of AROMA. Compared to the time required to download and flash a new ROM, and all the app restoring that would be required following doing so (and I don't even have completely updated backups, so I'd be missing some apps/data), I think my solution was better.

Morning all.
So i'm on a rooted 4.3 sense 5.5 Rom but can't seem to get rid of ads.
I've tried AdAway 2.8 and AdFree 0.8.66 but both work for a few hours then revert back. If I reboot as suggested my changes are reverted as if I never ran the program in the first place.
Any suggestions?

Which ROM are you running? Real stock, but rooted? Your problem is HTC system protection, it's reverts all system changes on boot or specific system events....
I'd recommend this ROM - choose the deodex ROM - the ROM includes a modded kernel which removes the protection.....
Or you could S-OFF, but read this first!
Have fun!
Any issues, let me know!
Morning,
Yeah the deox ROM is the one I'm on thanks to your recommendation.
Originally I could never get Xposed or SuperSU to work but ever since that ROM, and the SuperSU mentioned in the post and Xposed 2.4.1 these have been fine which is why I wondered if maybe there were updates available for the ad away apps.
Is there a way of re-flashing the kernal without taking the ROM back to the initial setup?

Before we go to flash city, try this version of adaway https://db.tt/nVzVc7m5
You may have to try and apply a few times, if it gets stuck on applying, reboot and try again
yeah that's the one i have.
Is it as easy to apply the host files from recovery or bootloader if flashing the kernal is tricky?
Thanks again for your help, you're becoming super helper guy for me!

You could have the generated hosts file written to an alternative location by setting it in preferences - then move it manually.... BUT you shouldn't need to....
The kernel is integrated into the ROM, there isn't a custom ROM available to flash....
Can you screenshot the errors you get, and also go to supersu and select full logging for adaway, once done, try updating and applying.... Send the supersu logs please!
Sent by my favorite carrier pigeon.... hope he comes back.....
Eugh, now it appears ad-away has taken a turn for the worse.
Removed, rebooted, reinstalled.
See attached. Computer sez no.
Worth a complete re-install of ROM?
Do you have Titanium Backup Pro? If so.....
Remove the app from supersu.
Force Stop the app via apps in settings.
Convert the app to a system app using Titanium Backup (or an alternative app that converts apps system apps, search the store).
Start the app again, supersu will ask for permissions.
Restart your phone.
Try again!
Boy I am not having any luck with this whatsoever.
Ok so I reflashed my ROM with the one mentioned earlier.
Tried AdAway without any jiggery pokery and it applys successfully but then two hours later it's reverted back.
I tried full logging but then AdAway kept crashing.
I tried Titanium backup Pro and spent an hour watching it "Processing... Please wait".
I rebooted, Opened ESFileExplorer, mounted the System folder, copied AdAway into System\Apps, opened the app and it crashed.
Rebooted and AdAway is no longer installed. Slapped it in System\Apps again, managed to open with full logging and got the attached.
I think I'm just destined to have Ad's on a few apps. It just keeps reverting when I reboot.

Bizarre.....
Right, I now recommend this rom (sweet updates on the way to!!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616780
Install this from Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
Install adaway....
I found the easiest solution was to install a custom /etc/hosts file, search google for "/etc/hosts adblock"
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597332 , it works for me with xposed.I am on stock 4.3 rooted. I have tried adfree, adaway, manualy edited hosts but no succes.
