Under no circumstance do you pay anybody to root your phone. There any many threads on this site in which show you a step by step process on how to root you device. Start off by visiting the link below. Also there are many videos on YouTube with a step by step if you are still confused.

hey all, just joined the forum, been lurking for a while, trying to learn about the whole rooting process. i am still not 100% confident on the whole thing, but i am thinking about giving it a shot.
have had a few smart phones, all from t-mobile except for this last one, which is a samsung galaxy s3 from verizon, running android 4.1.2. i have watched a bunch of videos, and read a bunch of threads, but want to make sure i don't turn my phone into a brick by doing this, so i am asking here now.
if i follow the instructions in the video by officialphonerebel for the SCH-I535 will that give me root access? i tried to post a link to the video but since i am a new member the site won't allow me to do that. what else do i need to do in order to delete all the bloatware that comes pre-installed? do i need to unlock the bootloader? or will the process described in the video do that already?
thanks in advance from a dumb union plumber and pipe welder...

Ok, sorry about that, thanks for moving it.
However, you found the time to move my thread, but not to help me? Cool, thanks for that too.

1.Does the video show you how to root from 4.1.2 jelly bean?
2. Yes you need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash anything.
3. Most custom ROMs have bloatware removed.
4. The only way to brick your phone is by flashing something meant for another device.
5. Kenny is a moderator so he doesn't really have to help you just moderate the forums which he did.

Kenny moves threads once they are reported so don't go subtly suggesting anything.

Thank you for the info. The video I watched said 4.1.2/4.1.1., so I am not sure if they require the same procedure or not.
So after I root the phone, I need to flash a custom ROM? I can't just run an unlocked stock version of 4.1.2?
Understood about the bricking, I will pay attention and read what I am flashing first to make sure it is for my device
This forum must run differently than other forums. I am a supermod over on a motorcycle racing website, and we need to be knowledgable about what we are moderating, and give advice and help the members, not just moderate.

I wasn't subtly suggesting anything. I think I was pretty straightfoward saying that in addition to moving my thread he could have helped me answer my questions.
Follow the instructions in below post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35418324
This will give you rooted stock rom.
Thanks doesn't hurt....

follow the directions in this thread >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 and you will be rooted with an unlocked botloader and ready to flash.
from there you you can stay stock rooted and remove apps yourself. alot of people like titanium back up for that. or you can flash a touchwiz/samsung based ROM that has most if not all of the bloatware removed and allows to add what you want thru the installer at setup. you can find these ROMs in android development. or you can flash an AOSP (android open source project) ROM that is based off "pure google" with developer mods and preferences included. you can find these ROMs in original android development.
backup your phone. i use nandroid and nandroid manager but there are others that may work better for you. only flash stuff for vzw. have fun.

Be careful! Moderators do not have knowledge of every device. We are here to moderate based on forum rules. Learn to read the rules and how to search. Moderators are volunteers responsible for over 35 device forums and are not here to do the searching for you.
Your attitude will get you less and less people wanting to help you. XDA is NOT a support site. It is a Development site.

be careful of what?
and now i understand that this forum is different than the others i frequent. like i said, i am a supermod (voluntarily as well) on another site, and on that site, all of our mods, supermods, and admins need to be familiar with all aspects of what they are moderating, so i assumed (incorrectly apparently) that this site was run the same. my apologies for that.
my attitude? i thought it was rude of you to just moderate the thread, and not even let me know whether or not you could help or not. it was fine to tell me you moved the thread, and it was my fault for posting it in the wrong section, but all you had to say was "hey listen, i don't know much about your device, but you posted it in the wrong section, so i moved it for you." and everything would have been fine.
i read tons of "support" threads on this site, and was not aware that it was for developers only, again, my apologies. can you direct me to a site that is for support please?
for those of you that helped, i thank you.

Thread closed, I will assume you feel it necessary to vent your frustrations, but again, your above post does nothing towards the contribution and/or furthering of development.
One of the main rules of XDA is to read and follow the posting rules prior to posting. Nowhere in these rules is there a requirement for, or of, a moderator to answer your questions just because you asked one. We act on reported posts from users that violate XDA posting rules, and yours did.
If you are a moderator elsewhere, you should be familiar with the codes and standards that it takes to moderate. Firing back and getting the last word in to moderators here is not a classy or nice thing, might be on the site you volunteer on, but not here.
Now, KennyGlass123 may unlock so that you can reply to him. Or, you could have used the PM system to express your dissatisfaction of things. But you did not, hence, me locking this thread.
Have a good weekend.
Good morning guys, i'm new in the forum and i'm going to try to explain what's happening with me.
I came to Canada due an Internship program, and while i was here i bought this Verizon Galaxy s3, well now i have 1 month left here and i decided to Unlock it, took it to where i bought it and they told me that they couldn't unlock it and wouldn't accept it back. well now here I am with this Galaxy S3 blocked and won't be able to use it in My country.
I searched the forum but couldn't find any way to unlock this mobile.
I don't mind rooting it, co's i don't care about the warranty anymore.. so i was wondering if you could help me with this, so I can use any carrier i want.
Can you guys help me with that?
Thank you very Much
Android Version - 4.1.2
Kernel Version - 3.0.31
I have not tried it myself but I did ask in that thread and they said it work for Verizon s3. Try it and let us know if it works, and you don't have to root.

Hola XDA, I just got my first new smartphone bought from VZW and flashed to PagePlus with the help from Viper.
But what do I do now? IE- custom ROM's etc.
Right now I have 'The 12' plan (250min/texts - 10mb data) I may upgrade the next month... I'd like to have a minimal yet eye candy version of Android OS on it without all of the stock bloatware and battery killing apps. However, I have concerns doing this on my device and accidentally screwing up something Viper did to get my phone working on PP.
I have 'some' experience. I've rooted 3 KF's from stock to Android without a problem. TWRP...
Suggestion? Guides? Links?
Thx in advance! XDA is awesome.

Derp.... no one is answering anyways.. Thx
I have a Galaxsy S III that WILL NOT update past 4.0.4, every time I try, it says service is unavailable. Verizon says I need a new phone and Samsung wants me to mail it in to them to fix for 2 weeks. Instead of doing either option...as there are some small cracks in the screen, Verizon wont replace and I have no spare phone to lose mine for 2 weeks, I've decided to root it.
Now, I've looked all over this site and I'm both confused and overwhelmed. All the roots I see now are for devices already in JB or 4.1. So, since I'm so far behind, how do I get mine to current 4.1? I thought this

Thread may be it, but again, very overwhelming. Is this the correct spot? Any input I would greedily take and thanks for the assist. Looking forward to contributing.

Well, I will say are you computer challenged? If not you should't have a problem dealing with odin and flashing to the latest and unlocking the bootloader.
