● Open Source

● Follows Android design guidelines
● Well-designed
● Respects your privacy

Lightning Browser is a lightweight Android web browser dedicated to delivering a high-quality experience. I'm a full-time student, so updates are not every week, but I am always working on the browser despite what it might seem like. The purpose of this browser is to gain me experience in programming and reaching as many people as possible, not make me money like so many others, and that is what makes me different from other developers.
Navigation:
● Long-press a tab to delete it
● Long-press the back button to exit the browser
Enjoy
Permissions Explanation
● permission.INTERNET - Obviously needed to access the internet
● permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - Needed for downloading files
● permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - Needed for downloading files
● permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION - Needed for sites that want your location (access is denied by default)

Re: [APP][2.2+] The Lightning Browser v1.2.5 - the fastest browser around
Nice app, recently reset my phone and this could become one of my main browsers. It loads mobile websites really fast on my sort of low end phone (such as the mobile versions of facebook, google, youtube...etc) Also, I noticed that pages don't actually show it loading, but rather just load. Don't know if out is a bug or helps performance, just putting it out there.
A problem I had was;
Whenever I press the menu button, nothing happens.

Wow its really fast, simple and powerful

First off, if you're on ICS or above, there is a loading animation but due to problems with backward compatibility it doesn't show up on devices running gingerbread or older. Or are you saying the pages load abruptly?
Second, the menu button does nothing because there are no settings yet, the buttons you see are the buttons you get right now. I'll be adding a menu with settings options in the next update but for right now there's nothing.
Glad you like it

Nice work!

Gave it a try and it does seem to load very fast on based my first impressions. Will have to test it out a bit more but this looks like it has potential.

Not fond of putting up two similar software for a fight in ones thread, but what does your browser offer/will offer over Naked Browser?

It offers a better UI. I haven't thoroughly tested out the speed of Naked Browser but both browsers seem pretty similar in speed, the advantage of naked browser being the start time because it doesn't load a page. However, (and I know some like it that way), naked browser's UI is just something I can't tolerate. Sure it's meant to save space and load time, but it's not very intuitive for a simple minded user. I'm careful with aesthetics because I think they're important, and while naked browser and lightning browser offer the same thing (insane browsing speeds), I think we target different audiences.
Naked browser is for those who could care less about UI and are 100% focused on speed and power (most geeks ).
Lightning browser is for those that want the speed but don't want to sacrifice the look and feel of other browsers (the people that don't like naked browser)
@polobunny, that was an excellent question, hope I answered satisfactorily. And I don't wish to start a mini-browser war, hopefully we can keep from fighting

I assume this will be a big drawback for some. Naked Browser does support Flash--I believe Firefox is the only other one that will run Flash on Jelly Bean. I know the trend is supposed to be away from Flash, but there are so many sites that use it one cannot realistically avoid it.

[App] UC Browser, another amazing Browser replacement from China

Lately, it seems like there has been an influx of Android goodies from China. Some of this stuff is pretty amazing, like the MIUI ROM. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered the "MIUI" -aka Charming, aka Miren- Browser and was stoked to get that thing in a translated form. It is speedy and has a pretty cool interface. You can find a number of posts on XDA (here, here, and here among them).
Everyone I have talked to who has used the Miren browser has been jazzed about how much better it is than the traditional options (stock, Dolphin, Fennec/FF, Opera, SkyFire, Xscope, etc.) and I too have been impressed.
Yesterday, I discovered yet another browser, this one also from China and I have to say, so far it has blown me away! I have been preaching on the Miren browser for a week, but This new UC browser is simply the best mobile browser I have used. I have only had it for about twelve hours, so I don't know what the full capabilities are or if there are any major bugs, but so far, I am incredibly impressed.
It can be a little tricky to locate and I am hesitant to post the apk here as it appears to work with hundreds of handsets in different formats. i will post the link where I found it and you can do your own research on which version to grab. This is the English language site (on a side note, these guys are PROS! Just check out the flawless translations in the various languages and you can see that they take immense pride in their product and work. You'd be hard pressed to find other Android devs who have the time or skill to provide such clean sites in multiple languages. Provides me as an end user with a lot of confidence in the final product.)
UC Browser
Pretty amazing specs includes all the typical options, some less prevelant ones and a few atypical inclusions such as built in File Manager, Night Mode lighting and super fast URL autocomplete. The only shortcoming so far is I can't find anyway to get pinch to zoom on this thing, but I am submitting a query to the devs on that.
Edit: Thanks to jpyounis1 for figuring out the pinch-to-zoom settings!
To enable pinch to zoom change user agent to "web ua" then browse mode to "zoom mode" and ur done. Now you have full pages with intelligent fit.
Edit2: Unfortunately, so far as I can tell, no flash support in 7.2. For now I will have to stick with Miren and Skyfire as my main browsers and keep UC as an alternate until 7.4 is available in English.
And it's pretty too...

looks damn sweet, thanks for the share, gonna try it out!
interesting... ill try it out.
thanks for the post
the "built-in" facebook scared me, security issues and all that :O
other than that this looks really sleek and nice, gonna try it out for a few days.
I was pretty psyched by the prospect of this browser, but if they don't have the ability to integrate pinch-to-zoom it might be a bust. That would be a shame because in all other respects this browser is superior to most others.
I guess I will wait and see what response i get from the devs.
Yea I really like this browser. Looks great and its ui is superior. I think its better than miren browser and is my new default. I think between this and firefox take the cake.

Awesome, thanks for discovering that. I thought I had tried that combo, but it must have been the "zoom Mode(Compressed)" that I tried. Now this is my favorite browser

Opera is located in Norway. It has a privacy policy matching european standards. Still I wouldn't feel completely comfortable to have all my browser traffic redirected through them, but that's a matter of personal taste as long as current standards are met.
I used UC as my main browser as a Nokia user...love it. They must have recently added the new platforms because I don't recall a WM version.
Indeed, it's Android!
Sharing content??
How do you system share content with other apps in Android?! IE: get it on the system share list?
Or.. how do you email content out.
I have to in part manage my information that way.
Thanks
Tim
wow nice find love the ui!
is there any way to get flash working on this browser?
It is definitely well polished, but there are 3 things that stop me making this my default
1. No quick access to address bar, in fullscreen mode
2. Share options of webpage are extremely limited
3. No true speed dial or easily configurable bookmark list for start page.

Yes I was also hoping for the same, but couldn't find it
Am I using a different version than you guys? I got Pinch to zoom working...
EDIT oops, looks like you guys already figure out how to pinch to zoom.
Anyway, this browser is amazing. The new 7.4 chinese version home ui looks like Miren browser.
Trouble with this configuration is that it becomes the same speed as every other browsers on Android... cept Opera Mini of course.

Why don't you check out the other thread that somebody started:

You speak English a hell of a lot better than I speak Chinese, but it's kinda hard to understand what you're talking about. That's probably one reason why the other thread is actually getting replies.
Good luck,

So I still don't know why my Firefox mobile looks like a re-skinned Dolphin Browser and yours looks like it does OP. Is that an addon or perhaps a setting in preferences?

I know it can maybe make it bigger but can you implement home screen with fast dials like opera or Chrome? I'm looking for ever for browser that is light on ram and battery but have fast dials instead of opening bookmarks and looking for site I want

You mean like "quick shortcuts" to your favourite websites?
Yes, this is a great idea, let's see how much the apk size will increase
Exactly, sorry for confusing explanation of what I meant

Just bought the pro version ☺ really like it. Quick shortcuts sound good. Looking forward to the upcoming development. A bookmark widget would be nice. ?
I was just looking for a new browser. Love this. Gave you 5 stars

really awesome. fast and easy to use.
one suggestion,a better way to organize the bookmarks will be perfect. Bookmark Folders or changing the sequence of bookmarks for example.

Liked your browser enough to go pro. However, I had a problem with downloads reappearing in my notification bar. Took me a minute to realize I had to go to Download Manager and delete them. Might need to put a connection to the download manager to make it easier to delete downloads. Why did they keep reappearing in my notifications? I also use Habit Browser and Naked Browser, and never had this happen. An I missing a setting?

Review:
- UI is better than Naked Browser.
- Fast, but still can't beat Naked Browser.
- This app size is a bit larger than Naked Browser (AFAIK).
Suggestion:
- Add the exit button in your browser.

great browser
played around with it it's awesome and fast
some suggestions
smaller tabs
after i activated full screen mode it show tabs/url/bar when i'm scrolling and hides them when i stop scrolling
google chrome does this but in regular browsing mode
it would be alot better if it hides everything but the webpage (nav/stat)
if u'll go with full screen all the way plz consider adding immersive mode
or transparent nav/statesbar
for me it's the latter
i hope that made sense
I would appreciate it if you gave attribution to Lightning Browser (off which this browser is based). Thank you.
Also, I'm glad to see you found my code useful

Obviously, I took for the bigger part of this browser only the settings activity, It's your work too so, I add credits right now
Really suits me, great work! Thanks!
2 ideas: if you could make the address bar empty on the new tab, it would be great. And the second thing is, as other mentioned before, the speedial home screen, that possibility would be great.

[APP][2.1+] Javelin Browser - Adblock, KitKat Transparency, VPN, True Multi-tasking

Hi guys,
It is my opinion that mobile browsers on Android suck because most of them are focused on feature count over ACTUAL mobile usability -- With most mobile browsers to be just a desktop browser squeezed into a small screen.
So I built Javelin Browser, extending from the very great code-base of Lightning Browser. Like Lightning Browser, Javelin is light-weight, and super-fast.
But that is nowhere enough. To get the mobile part right, here’s what I did.
MINIMAL DESIGN to be minimalistic, intuitive, and beautiful.
ADDED ADBLOCK natively, using the implementation of Adblock Plus with Easylist.
ONE-TOUCH gesture per action
READ EASILY with a reading mode just like Pocket app, Instapaper, Readability, etc.

This is an on-going project. As of April 2014, this is my second month into this. I’m commited to the Javelin project for at least the next 2 years. Let me know what you think!
Next release:
Fully featured Omnibox (It'll resemble that more of Firefox rather than Chrome - The suggestions will will lean slightly towards web-history/bookmarks over than web-search)
Bookmarks.. Chrome Bookmarks import for one. (I personally want this)
In the pipeline:
* Javelin on Android Wear
* Link Bubble: Oh man, I love the idea. But it is really just chatheads + preloading of URLs and showing an overlay of a webview. It lacks a full browser backend. So yes. I plan to implement some sort of Chathead + Preloading feature in the very near future.
----
Addendum (full disclosure):
- Javelin is a forked project of Lightning Browser, under Apache License 2.0. Here's the link to the repo: https://github.com/anthonycr/Lightning-Browser
- As is with the app permissions, the app does register your email addresses to identify you as a user, and from time-to-time, you might receive a newsletter that you can opt-out anytime.
Going to download :good:
Looks great! Gonna give it a whirl right away :good:
Downloading..
cool! let me know what you guys think.
Thanks

A little bug
I'm using the browser right now and there is a bug when Full-screen Mode it's activated the navigation bar cuts a piece of screen, the bug is "fixed" when you open a website but everytime when the navigation bar appears this happens. By the way, great browser! :good:
A couple of screenshots and a direct link to the Play Store would probably raise the interest around here. I bet a mod can do it for you if you can't yourself.

Is Javelin open source like lightning?
I really like Javelin's UI! I would like to see the app icon get changed because it looks a bit odd.
I just tried it and here is what I think.
One gesture is all I see atm, that's not enough. Check the many naked browser offers, that's what I wanna see, similar for the bookmark panel access. Also performance has drastically to improve, it's way to laggy on my NEXUS 5.
But it seems like a solid start so far, I like the design, what I don't like os the heavy emphasize on going pro, seems like it wants you to buy something on almost any click, this should get toned down or it will turn people away too fast and easily.
I will keep an eye on this, I would really like this to become something like a nicer designed version of naked browser which is still unrivaled for me even though I doubt this browser will turn into something similar.
Just have a try... really class design someone compares to naked browser ... The size difference is due to adblock?

Beautiful, smooth and fast! Bro where have you been my entire life!
The only problem I have with the browser is the icon it looks out of place and odd compared to other icons, maybe a redesign would be nice also keep it circle cause circle icons are beautiful.

I agree. The Browser is great, but the icon is kind of simple
How come it says "Jerky is the first browser to fully integrate..." under AdBlock settings?
Homepage defaults to javelinbrowser.com - no matter if it's set to 'blank' or another site.
Every time I go to alter the size of an image I get a popup asking "what would you like to do with this image?" Can this be turned off somehow? I just want to zoom in or out. The other options should be accessed by a long press or something.

Jerky browser is the previous name of the Incognito app, which is now known as Javelin Incognito, but I'm gonna fix this typo Thanks for the alert!

Ahh. Another bug. Working on it. There are some urgent bug fixes and this is one of them that I will be addressing. The bug fix release should be out in the next week
If you'll accept a request, can we please rename our bookmarks? It's a little confusing when four of them say "Welcome!"
