Something else is wrong here.
A USB cord is just a cord. Aside from it being cut in half there's like literally nothing that can be wrong. It's just copper wire allowing electrons to move freely through it.
If it wasn't transmitting data, then sure. It can be the cord as low quality cords can disrupt digital data flow. But when then I use $1 cords from Monoprice.com and they work just peachy.
But multiple cords not charging? It's just a wire. All it does it carry electricity from the charger to the phone. There is nothing special about the official HTC cord.
Are you sure the charger works okay? Will it charge another device? Are you sure the phone is okay? It could be the battery as well.
Phone chargers are fairly universal, as most smartphones have a USB charger that outputs 1amp. So see if you can find another one from a friend or co-worker and test to see if your phone charges faster with another charger.

Use the standard HTC thing that connects into the sockets, then I recommend using a Samsung USB cable.
I had the same issue and found out my wire was broken :/.
Thanks!
Hope I Helped

I guess that the other pins are for audio and other stuff
Try it!
Any Standard Mini USB works
Thanks for sharing but I think we all knew that one already.
And we should call you Amerigo Vespucci, but I`d be happier if I could name you Google or Search sorry
i hardly ever use the HTC cable with any of my HTC phones... to start with , my HTC USB cable is in the mains charger!
Give the guy a break. I remember when I first tried my charger and USB cable that I had with a previous HTC phone and found out it worked. I plugged it in to my Diamond VERY gingerly and winced, hoping not to fry my phone. Hallalujah! I remembered saying to myself. Now I don't have to buy another charger or cable!
I just had that HALLELUJAH moment myself! Thanks

I'm nominating you for funniest avatar awards! At least we'll all be able to take you seriously.
But in regards to your comment, yeah as long as the voltage is the same you're generally pretty safe. The ampage rating don't tend to mean that much as the device will only draw what it needs (in the case that your charger is rated at 1000mAH but your device draws less than that). In the case your charger can't provide enough ampage then I believe the charging process simply takes longer that it would with the 'correct' charger.
If the voltage is different then you can cause serious damage to your device and who knows you could theoretically start a fire.
Rejoice! I've been *****ing all morning about me forgetting the cable at work, and now for the weekend it's low on power. I've been browsing sites trying to figure out what cable i needed to order and i came up short - except for ordering an original which wasn't in stock.
Consider this a 'thanks' and a bump

Replacement AC charger cable

I recently forgot my AC charger and cable at a Hotel. I found a HTC charger for $8 at Amazon but it didn't come with the HTC power cable. Without that power cable it will only charge at a trickle instead at the full AC rate. Does anyone know of where I can find a replacement charger cable? The ones on Amazon are regular USB cables and not the HTC cable.
You could try verizon. They usually stock the replacement stuff.
the plug on the eris has a standard usb micro type b port, with one corner extended to make it look like a different plug, but it's still a usb micro b port.
you can buy essentially any charger for that, or just a usb cable to plug into your computer or any ac-usb converter.
I personally use just a usb to micro usb cable. I personally got one that is longer than the stock one so that I can use my phone while it's charging if I'm in bed or something.
I personally get all my cables from this site:
http://www.pchcables.com/usbtytomibpd.html
They are super awesome people and local to my area, i have yet to find better deals in town.
Shop around in your area for a "cables" store, you may have one in your area too. or if not these guys do shipping, but im not sure how much it is, but if you need any other cables it may be worth it.
I have never noticed a difference from the 15' i got, to the stock 3' cable that came with the phone.
i do know that AC Charges the phone faster, then the DC Car charger being 2nd, then plugged into a PC being the slowest. i think its due to the voltages that the adapters output to the phone, with AC adapter being the highest.
For the ac adapter or cigarette lighter adapters, i got mine on ebay for super cheap, like $3 with shipping i think it was for both. I dont notice a performance difference, just the build quality is cheap, but how often have you broken your ac adapter? lol your more likely to lose it
Just my 2 cents, hope it helps
I bought this back in Nov. Cheap and it works great. I bought this for a buddy as well and it working out great for him too.

any blackberry or old motorola charger will work. I switched from blackberry over to the eris and all of my chargers work with this phone.

Cheapest / best cables around. At least IMHO. I buy ALL my cables from them and so should you.
I second the monoprice. Their prices are so low it's silly.

Car 12v-usb and cable bought on ebay wont charge.

Hello, ive bought these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-CAR-CHARGER.../180497049900?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories
http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-USB-Data-...ARE-BB-Storm-/170525850383?pt=PDA_Accessories
Trying to use them to charge my phone in my car, but no go. When i connect the cable it asks me if i want to connect to kies, mass storage etc. I just press the back button, and phones tells me its charging, when in fact, its not, battery is actualy draining, and it gives me some weird msg about sd card. (In norwegian)
Any way to resolve this, or do i have to buy an original samsung charger?
did you try the USB cable on your computer?
does it charge when you plug it into the computer using the USB cable you got off ebay?
possibly the car charger is bad, if the USB cable works on your computer
I havent yet, i will do so and report back
The cable does not charge in the pc, and i can not mount my sd card on my pc with the cable, so, i guess its the cable then
Maybe this will do the trick: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Sync-Charge...895319?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item20b30c83d7
They say its for samsung i9000
Also! have you made sure the charger supplys the right amps, if you get one even with the right voltage if not the right amps you will still get battery drain! I had this issue when the gf's blackberry charger got swapped with my hero charger by accident, took me ages to realise why the battery was still draining when using co pilot on long car journeys!!
get this one instead
2000 mAh (2A) charger

i'm using it, super good

Get the HTC C200 charger.
I paid a lot for this phone so paying 15 euros dollars for a car charger makes sense
paying more for something that comes from the same manufacturing center (China) will not make it any better.
Thanks for all the good tips. Ill check those out

I've used cheap ass car chargers and all they do is get hot and aren't very efficient. Have a HTC mini usb charger and it stays cool while charging, which means it isn't wasting any power...so to me...its worth paying extra

Why does my battery go down while my htc is on charge? =/

Is this normal?
all i have is the wifi turned on and whatsapp open.
And why do i keep gettting this message about it not recieving sufficient power or something like that!?
HTC Sensation XE not rooted or anything
Check the running background process close them.
Or set brightnes as low as possible.
Is Your mobile battery condition is good or it die within hour or two without any use?
Mine did that with a cheap charger and the original battery. I got a good charger, anker battery and auto task killer.

Are you charging using the USB port of a computer? This might not supply the phone with sufficient power. A wall charger should do this job better.
Also, if your phone isn't rooted, this might be caused by the battery getting old. Anker has some awesome (and cheap) battery's available on eBay.
as the above posts says, make sure to use a wall charger.
This has happened to me while using 1566Mhz. If i am doing alot of stuff on my phone while charging, my battery would go down. After bringing the MHz a little bit down. its working fine now.
And what cable are you using ? Original ? I had this problem with different cable different from original .

The original HTC cable i got in the box broke.
Is this happening because of the Nokia Cable?

its probably because of the extension cable, try charging with only one cable see how that works out

That too but the easiest way to figure out is to just try without the extension first. Sometimes different cables do work, though I wouldn't recommend using them

Is 15v --- 3.5a charger ok to charge Asus tf300?

Hi, recently my Asus charger stopped working & unfortunately can't find any of these being sold here in my country, my data cabel is working fine so I was wondering if I can use a laptop charger that has a female usb slot with output of 15v-----3.5a to charge my tab, the original charger had 15v----1.2a.
Any help provided will be welcome.

The only drawback is that the stock charging brick would provide 2 grounds to the cable and then magically the tablet end would have to provide
4 grounds to the table both [usb grounds] and the ground switch and the body of the charger.... Thus the reason it will not charge from a PC.... I would say if it charges it go for the gold... Maybe just dont leave it on for an extended period of time... Hope that helps... Thx lj

I am worried that it might burn the tab, so would appreciate more details regarding what happens with a higher Ampare.

I hear you... I am not electrical genus but on something as sensitive as the electronics are I would stay away from it... I mean worst cast scenario
The battery could melt or even exploit....Ive seen it happen.... It was a car battery but It took off like a rocket...
Thanks for your replies, although some more specific replies regarding chargers voltage and ampares will be more helpfull, I see some 3.1a dual usb chargers being sold over eBay so, still want to know that what difference will higher ampare make to charging and the device it charges.

Well, the voltage should match, but I think amperes are a max. value, so it should not be smaller than that of the original adaptor. But then - I am a software guy and happy to stand corrected.
